The seemingly straightforward case of an England international, a £60million release clause and Tottenham trying to sign a Nottingham Forest player has so far proved to be far more complicated.

Spurs were all set to add the signing of Morgan Gibbs-White to the £55million purchase of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham and the £5million deal for Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale to complete a big £120million week of transfers that had the supporters getting excited again after a slow start to the window.

Then it all went rather wrong as Forest took issue with the transfer for the 25-year-old England international and everything suddenly ground to a halt. So what exactly happened, what comes next and how will it all end? football.london takes a look at all of that and the potential outcome.

What happened?

The move for Gibbs-White came out of the blue publicly, although behind the scenes Spurs have held a long-term interest in the former Wolves man and new head coach Thomas Frank wanted him at Brentford while he was at Wolves and is known to believe the midfielder is perfect for his set-up with his creativity and energy. So the approach made sense for all parties.

Tottenham made their move and it all seemed to be accelerating quickly. However, Forest took umbrage at it all, believing an illegal approach had been made to their player without their permission and that the confidentiality of Gibbs-White's £60million release clause had been breached with suggestions that Spurs made a bid that was exactly what was required to release him.

Forest reportedly ended communications with the north London club and everything suddenly ground to a halt. Having already sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle for £52million, Nuno Espirito Santo's side were not planning on losing the England midfielder as well this summer.

Where was Gibbs-White in all of this?

The 25-year-old was set to have a medical at Tottenham but sources on various sides of the saga claim that the player never actually ended up leaving Nottingham and going to Hotspur Way as Forest's unhappiness and that of their owner Evangelos Marinakis was made very clear to Gibbs-White and all involved.

With everything that has happened since, that's probably an important aspect because had the midfielder gone to the Spurs training ground then the whole scenario might have become far worse, especially if Forest have officially claimed they did not give permission for any advancement of the deal.

Gibbs-White was not involved in Forest's 0-0 friendly draw at Chesterfield on Saturday because he was part of the group of international players who were not returning to training until this week. The midfielder duly returned to Forest's training ground on Monday morning as expected to report for pre-season and the club made it very clear he had by popping his photo up on social media.

What have Forest done?

Forest are now believed to have lodged their legal complaint over Tottenham's approach for Gibbs-White which the Premier League will have a duty to look into.

Who is saying what?

Officially nobody. Neither Forest nor Tottenham have made any comment on the situation and when contacted by football.london, the Premier League made it clear that they would not be commenting or providing guidance on what is happening. All understandable really with the legal aspect of things. So officially we're going to wait for this to run its course.

What comes next?

Now we will see if everything gets thrashed out between the various parties to end this transfer limbo. There seems to be a sense from various sides that the deal for Gibbs-White will eventually get done but it will certainly be made more difficult and take more time because of Forest's legal complaint.

Gibbs-White has two years remaining on his contract with Forest, who were keen to get him to extend his deal. It could be that Forest attempt to get more money out of Tottenham or look for the midfielder to forgo any bonuses he might be entitled to, or simply look for the north London club to be punished for what they see as an illegal approach.

Much will come down to the legality of how that release clause was triggered and its existence, secret or not, looks likely to be the Midlands side's biggest problem.

The longer things are drawn out, the more concern Spurs fans will have of another club looking to take advantage by swooping in to end it all but Forest would in that scenario not get any more money.

Gibbs-White certainly looked set on Tottenham though to work with Thomas Frank and reunite with former Forest team-mate Brennan Johnson and England colleague Dominic Solanke.

Some Forest fans have also decided that they no longer want Gibbs-White at their club if he was keen to make the move to the Europa League winners, which might make his exit less controversial for his club at this point.

At the moment the deal is expected to go through eventually, but Forest will certainly not be making it easy for Spurs to take away another one of their key players.

Last week, the Europa League winners were preparing for Gibbs-White to undergo a medical in north London ahead of signing for the club after they triggered a £60m release clause in his contract at the City Ground.

However, the east Midlands outfit were left furious with Spurs after what they believed to be an illegal approach for the 25-year-old.

As a result, it means that Tottenham's pursuit of Gibbs-White is likely to drag on for longer than expected.

And with that in mind, Football. London takes a look at the latest news surrounding the situation.

What are the latest reports on Morgan Gibbs-White?

Gibbs-White reported back to Nottingham Forest on Monday, July 14, after being handed an extended summer break.

The midfielder was one of several internationals absent from Saturday's 0-0 draw with Chesterfield after he was involved in England's friendlies against Andorra and Senegal at the start of June.

What has Football.London learnt about the Morgan Gibbs-White situation?

On Monday, football.London's Tottenham Hotspur reporter, Alasdair Gold, explained the complexity of the situation surrounding Gibbs-White while predicting that Forest are "more likely to hold up the deal than prevent it".

"It's difficult to predict right now with complete certainty as it's an unusual situation, and that's reflected in media coverage across the board, but the feeling among many at this early stage seems to be that Forest are more likely to hold up the deal than prevent it," wrote Gold.

"The fact that this has all happened just before a weekend means little was likely to progress in these two days when it comes to legal matters or potential Premier League complaints.

"Neither club is commenting on the situation and the Premier League also declined to comment when I approached them today about whether a complaint has actually been lodged by Forest.

"Spurs are believed to be hopeful the deal will go through eventually while Forest are distinctly unimpressed by the whole thing, as they could lose both Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga in the space of a handful of days which won't go down well with their fans.

"Much will come down to the legal aspect of the contract and the details within it, for from the outside it seems simple enough that amid it all a release clause has been triggered regardless of whether the Midlands club wanted knowledge of it to be available.

"The worry of course for Tottenham fans will be whether this delay in proceedings allows another club to enter the fray and go about it in a way that Forest do not have an issue with.

"However, that also surely gets messy from a legal standpoint as Spurs had the deal all but done with the player set for his medical before Forest reportedly cut off communications.

"I would imagine Monday will bring with it far more answers and clarity in terms of whether a complaint has been formally submitted with the Premier League and whether anything of a legal nature has truly begun or whether it was simply considered and found to be fruitless."

What's next for Tottenham Hotspur and Morgan Gibbs-White?

Speaking on talkSPORT over the weekend, football agent Sky Andrew explained how it will be difficult for Nottingham Forest to back up claims that Tottenham made an illegal approach for the midfielder.

“Here’s the thing, guys, it’s very difficult to prove that a club went directly to a player without the permission of the club. We’re getting into all sorts of things here — phone records and everything," said Andrew.

“If it goes to arbitration, where it must go within the football rules and regulations, then Forest will have to prove that the club went directly to the player or to the agent. Most clubs know that it is very difficult to prove.

“So, this is a case now of how much will the buying club pay for the player. It won’t be £60 million, it will probably have to be more.”

Tottenham are playing the waiting game when it comes to signing Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest.

Spurs had looked set to make the England international their fourth signing of the summer when activating his £60million release clause, agreeing personal terms and scheduling a medical for the 25-year-old.

But that was all put on hold on Friday as Nottingham Forest sought legal advice over what they perceived to be an illegal approach from Tottenham for the midfielder.

Forest were not impressed that Spurs had come in with the exact amount required to activate his release clause, with it supposed to have been confidential.

According to the Sun reporter Tom Barclay, Forest have lodged a legal complaint over the approach, although football.london understands that Spurs remain hopeful the deal will go through eventually.

Forest got their summer pre-season friendly schedule under way on Saturday as they took on Chesterfield, but Gibbs-White was not part of the squad. That was not down to an impending transfer to Tottenham, however.

The former Wolves man would reportedly not have been involved in the match against the League Two side regardless of the current situation with Spurs because he is part of a group of players who had been on international duty last month that are not due to return to Forest until later next week.

Gibbs-White did, however, return to Forest training on Monday and rather than keep it quiet and keep the 25-year-old out of the public eye, Forest made a point of putting him at front and centre of their social media campaign.

In a post on X Forest wrote: "Back with the group," with Gibbs-White and striker Chris Wood the first to be pictured arriving at the training ground.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Forest's legal complaint and whether it only serves to delay Spurs' approach to sign the player or if it means the deal is off completely.

The transfer window is heating up at Tottenham and bringing with it new faces and no little drama in recent days.

Spurs are still hoping to complete a transfer hat-trick with the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White to further boost new head coach Thomas Frank's squad with more quality ahead of a season that brings with it a return to Champions League football following that Europa League triumph.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold answered plenty of questions from our readers on the current goings-on at the club in the transfer window yesterday afternoon and here's a full transcript with everything he was asked and how he responded.

tomphillips64: "With the rumours around an investment and a stadium naming right from Saudi, do you think Tottenham will spend high amounts of money, beyond their record. Eg, Palace have reportedly labelled Wharton with a price tag near £100 million. Would Spurs pay this?"

Alasdair says: "Wharton is certainly a player that Tottenham have liked for a few seasons and they considered making a move for him when Palace signed him from Blackburn early last year for a deal worth up to £22m.

"Could I see Spurs paying a £100million fee for him? I would be surprised if Tottenham shelled out that amount right now and if they did pay such a sum it'd probably be for someone more established than having played 36 Premier League games.

"I've reported in recent weeks about a growing expectation of investment coming into the club, with ENIC potentially pumping funds in, and the commercial side of the club have been big performers in recent years so I wouldn't be surprised if something is also in the offing with them.

"Spurs' AIA kit sponsorship deal runs until the end of the 2026/27 season so will have been explored. That deal brought in £320m across eight years when signed in 2019.

"That's £40m a year and all these years on the sum potentially available from a new deal will have risen.

"There's also the stadium naming rights, a talking point since before the building opened in 2019 and Spurs found they were actually making plenty of money and opening doors to unexpected opportunities by keeping the club name on the ground.

"Whether they could tie up a shirt and stadium deal in one would certainly require a huge amount of money from someone. For instance the Staples Center in LA became the Crypto.com Arena in 2021 in a $700million (£518mllion) 20-year deal. In the same city, the SoFi Stadium, home of the LA Rams and Chargers, has its own 20-year $625million (£463million) deal.

"So any Spurs deal would need to be around that same ballpark figure or be a far shorter deal so perhaps a stadium and kit deal would have to be two separate entities unless a mega deal is on the way."

elliotlast1: "If you could do any non-playing role at the club what would you pick?"

Alasdair says: "I'm not qualified to do any of the ones I'd most like to do like head coach, chairman or director of football so it's probably best I'm not in any of those roles! With my media background I guess I'd have to pick a role in helping the club communicate with the fans and general public better but that seems to hopefully be changing for the better since the arrival of the new CEO Vinai Venkatesham."

tulsamatt1: "With Spurs headed east for another preseason tour, do you think there is any hope for USA fans of a tour in America in the coming years? Or will it likely be after the World Cup?"

Alasdair says: "I really hope so. I've loved the tours to Asia and the Australian trips but it's only fair that the club head back to the States in the near future. Like you say, the World Cup is a factor. I guess it could work both ways in terms of worrying about a saturated market next summer or alternatively capitalising on the rise in interest. I would be surprised if Spurs are not back in the USA at some point over the coming summers though. With the NFL aspect if feels like a missed opportunity in pushing the "soccer" brand at the same time."

subin: "I'm curious about Son Heung-min. It is confirmed that he will play on a recent contract for the Korean tour, but I'm curious if the meeting with coach Frank has been held, and the longer the talk about renewing his contract or confirming his stay, the closer he feels to a transfer. What do you think?"

Alasdair says: "Son only returned to Hotspur Way on Friday after some pre-agreed extra time for family commitments and the first day at the training ground would have been about bloodwork and tests. Then it would have been about that 1km run that has been knackering the players out before a return to training.

"It might be that it's too early for that conversation to have been had yet. From Frank's side, you would think he would want to look at Son up close in action before making up his mind on the current level of a player who has done so much for Spurs and the Premier League.

"For me, the decision should be Son's. If he wants to stay after 10 years at the club and see out his contract then he's earned that right but if he wants to make a move then that avenue needs to be explored.

"I'm sure the two men will have an open and honest chat, a Frank conversation if you will.

"Also I'm not sure whether Spurs are contractually obliged to have Son playing on the tour to Hong Kong and South Korea but it may be that there are some financial penalties if he doesn't appear should he move beforehand.

"We've got our first press conference with Frank on Friday so we might get more clarity then."

Okan5858: "Is Bissouma a candidate for departure? His name has been mentioned a lot with other teams recently. Fenerbahce and now AS Roma are reportedly keeping an eye on him."

Alasdair says: "I think he naturally has to be because he's in the final 12 months of his contract and Thomas Frank has already shown his fondness for Rodrigo Bentancur, also in a similar contract situation, in his first interview after joining the club. Bissouma will be looking to impress as he did under Postecoglou in those early months but Frank will be aware of the inconsistency and disciplinary and availability issues that came after."

kkh0406: "What's the latest on our interest in Antonee Robinson?"

Alasdair says: "Good player but those within Spurs have played down any serious interest in the Fulham man in recent weeks."

rossfj: "Kulusevski has been a key player, but say the Morgan Gibbs-White signing goes through can you see him leaving?"

Alasdair says: "I'm a big Dejan Kulusevski fan and I think Thomas Frank will love him as well. He's got a lot of the tools the Dane admires with his creativity, power and workrate as well as his winning mindset.

"He'll be able to use him across the three behind the striker, as a deeper midfielder or even as a support striker at times. First the Swede must get fully back in the swing of things after his patella surgery and that could take a little while."

koronos: "Do you think we beat PSG, then lose to Burnley? It seems the Tottenham thing to do."

Alasdair says: "The PSG clash does look rather terrifying right now with the form they are in but if Spurs can get Gibbs-White through the door with Kudus and some other statement signings before that August 13 game then some nerves might be dulled.

"I'm also clinging to the fact that the Champions League winners reached the Club World Cup final so will need to have the next three weeks off at least, meaning they will only return to training just days before the Super Cup in Udine.

"They might not be as sharp as we're seeing them right now. That's what I'm desperately clinging to anyway.

"As for the Burnley game, I do think some people are forgetting, or have not realised yet, how soon that game comes after the PSG match. Spurs will likely arrive back the UK in the early hours of the Thursday and will need to recover that day. They will only have Friday's final light training session to prepare for the Premier League opener the next day.

"Frank is going to have to rotate his squad on the opening day of the season which is something we've never had to see before and it does raise the chances of an upset as we saw with Spurs' games in the final months of last season as they focused on the Europa League. It will be an eye opener for both him and us."

kallamch: "Do you think that Tottenham are going to sign another attacker, or does it depends of whether Richarlison leaves or not?"

Alasdair says: "I think they're pretty stacked with attackers now and much would depend on who heads out of the door. Don't forget those pesky club-trained rules as well."

edamonne: "What does Peter Charrington do? Is he a presence around the club and on match days like Scott Munn?"

Alasdair says: "I don't believe so. Vinai Venkatesham will be the main presence around Spurs now in terms of running the football operations of the club."

rjbh1: "This transfer window seems very unSpursy - do you think this indicates a new dawn under Vinai Venkatesham and the start of a retreat to a more suitable position (CFO or similar) for Daniel Levy?

Alasdair says: "To be fair they moved quickly in Postecoglou's first summer with Vicario and Maddison through the door before pre-season even began. The plan however is for Venkatesham to take on the daily running of the football club while Levy looks at big picture stuff."

carl1882: "With Spurs having several thousand centre backs at the moment, can you see Romero (if he stays) or any of the others being converted into a 6?"

Alasdair says: "I'd be very surprised if Romero is converted into a six. I get the logic but it's a bit of a waste of his centre-back ability and I don't think the change in positioning or anticipation would suit him. He would need to be constantly moving up and down the pitch throughout the game."

Okan5858: "Do you think there could be some improvement at full-back? Udogie, Porro, and Spence are very few. Davies and VDV can help on the left, but we should really have a wider selection there."

Alasdair says: "I think they need another full-back personally. Spence being able to operate on both flanks (and looking better on the left last season) gives them more flexibility in who they bring in. What happens next with Davies could go some way to deciding things and there's also Archie Gray who can play at full-back on either side, but I think they need to look at that area."

dazlingwiz: "Anything on the outgoings? The squad is quite bloated right now."

Alasdair says: "It's on Thomas Frank first to look at and compare the players in training and decide for himself who he wants to keep and who needs to move on either on loan or permanently. It shouldn't take him long you'd imagine now everyone barring the U21 and U19s Euros players is back in the swing of things in training."

Lennonler: "Do you think Marc Guehi will be a target for Spurs this summer?"

Alasdair says: "He has been in the past and they made an approach in January. Any approach this summer would have to be if someone like Romero did leave because the centre-back department is stacked with up to 10 players who can play there. The problem with Guehi as well is that all the top teams would take him and some will be ahead of Spurs in any race."

beamon05: "How long will Spurs wait for this Gibbs-White saga before they move on to other targets?"

Alasdair says: "It depends whether there is likely to be any substantial wait and if Spurs feel they have anything to answer to. Things should become clearer in the next couple of days. See my reply right at the bottom for more on that."

jpostalwaite: "Are there any players you think won't leave this summer but will miss out on the Champions League squad?"

Alasdair says: "That's down to Thomas Frank but perhaps one or two of the new young defenders in Kota Takai or Luka Vuskovic, depending on whether the latter isn't sent out on loan with various clubs awaiting a decision on that. I think we'll see a lot of loans this season when it comes to Spurs players."

Spurs1972: "We have a number of development players on the cusp of the first team squad: Donley, Dorrington, Lankshear, Scarlett, Devine, Phillips etc. Where do you see our stronger youth players playing their football next season?"

Alasdair says: "I think a couple need to be kept because of the homegrown aspect but I think the bulk of those players will head out on loan and maybe one or two could even leave permanently. The pathway is blocked in certain departments and some might just not be seen as Champions League level players."

Thomas Frank faces as big a first competitive game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur as you could possibly get.

On the evening of August 13, Spurs will take to the pitch in Italy in Udinese's Stadio Friuli to compete with Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. The game presents Frank with the chance to immediately win a trophy as the new Tottenham head coach.

However, the Europa League winners must do battle with the Champions League holders and overcome the best side in the game right now if they are to lift another piece of silverware next month. PSG are through to the Club World Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday evening and could continue their juggernaut of a season with that trophy.

Even with the need for a three-week break after the game in New York, which means PSG will only return to training days before the game against Spurs in Udine, Frank's side will need to play to their very best if they are to be competitive in the game.

Tottenham have brought Mohammed Kudus and Kota Takai through the door so far from West Ham United and Kawasaki Frontale respectively after making Mathys Tel's loan move from Bayern Munich a permanent one. Spurs are hoping to add Morgan Gibbs-White to that list if Nottingham Forest's complaints over the triggering of the England international's secret release clause end up being no more than that.

So what starting XI should Frank pick to take on the French giants? We're going to name the team - in Frank's most regular 4-2-3-1 - that we would select if the window closed tomorrow and Spurs managed to get that Gibbs-White deal done.

The decision in goal is simple enough with Italy international Guglielmo Vicario back in his hometown. The back four still picks itself for now in Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie. It's a back four we certainly didn't see enough of last season.

The midfield duo in front of them would likely be taken up by Rodrigo Bentancur, who Frank mentioned in his first interview about being a player he wanted to fit into his team, and Tottenham's player of the season last time out Lucas Bergvall would likely take the other spot in such a formation.

The more difficult choices come in the three players in front. First off though, let's not forget some of those bad injuries suffered towards the end of last season. James Maddison has only just returned to working outdoors alone on the training pitches following his knee injury in May and Dejan Kulusevski could be longer following his patella surgery in the same month.

So we're going to assume that neither will be sharp enough or fit enough to start such a big match in exactly a month's time. That may be wrong nearer the time but we'll predict that for now.

We know Son Heung-min's future is unclear at this moment but don't forget we closed the transfer window early for this story so we think a fully fit and fresh Tottenham captain would start on the left with his experience. Gibbs-White would take up the number 10 role and then the decision to be made comes on the right.

Would Frank go with new £55milion signing Kudus or would he turn to last season's top scorer Brennan Johnson, signed for £47.5million from Nottingham Forest two years ago?

Everyone loves a new arrival but at this point we're going to go for Johnson starting the first competitive game and there's a couple of reasons why.

The first is that Frank really likes Johnson and had tried to sign him at Brentford and the move was at an advanced stage when Tottenham came in for the player.

Secondly, don't discount the fact that Gibbs-White and Johnson played together at Forest. The duo often played in the same team in the 2022/23 season after the Tottenham target moved to Forest from Wolves and they struck up a friendship during their time together in Nottingham. When Johnson announced his departure to Spurs on Instagram, his former team-mate declared that he was still going to pass to him.

So there will be that chemistry there ready to go. Johnson is also used to tracking back and working hard defensively to help Porro in big games and did so in that final in Bilbao. The Wales international can fly up the field on the break, which is how Spurs are likely to have to play.

You could argue that Kudus' ability to carry the ball is equally helpful but we're going to have the Ghana international coming off the bench in this first competitive game before starting a couple of days later against Burnley in the Premier League for his home debut. There is the other option of playing Gibbs-White alongside Bentancur with Kudus in the number 10 role in front of them, but we think Bergvall gets the nod in the centre of the park on this occasion.

Up front is Dominic Solanke, who will benefit from the increased attacking options available compared to last season at Tottenham.

So here's our team to face the most difficult side on the planet and don't forget in reality there are likely to be a number of new faces and departures before that game in Italy which would change it further.

Morgan Gibbs-White was not included in Nottingham Forest's squad for their pre-season draw at Chesterfield but his attempted transfer to Tottenham Hotspur was not the reason.

The 25-year-old England international had been on the verge of a move to Spurs with the north London side having triggered the £60million release clause in his contract at Forest. However, that has been delayed by the Midlands side considering legal action against what they believe is an illegal approach from the north London club along with the potential revealing of a confidential release clause.

Tottenham still hope to push through with the deal for Gibbs-White and the current feeling around the transfer is that Forest may only succeed in delaying the move rather than preventing it. Having already sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle for £52million, Nuno Espirito Santo's side were not planning on losing the England midfielder as well this summer.

Forest returned to pre-season action on Saturday with a 0-0 draw at Chesterfield and some people took more from Gibbs-White's absence than was actually the case. The former Wolves man would not have been involved in the match against the League Two side regardless of the current situation with Spurs because he is part of a group of players who had been on international duty last month that are not due to return to Forest until later next week.

Whether he would have been involved anyway is another thing but Gibbs-White came off the bench for England late in the 1-0 World Cup qualifying win away against Andorra last month and then got more than half an hour off the bench in the 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal at The City Ground.

All eyes now are on what happens with any potential complaint to the Premier League from Forest as Spurs look to sign the midfielder and get him involved in Thomas Frank's own pre-season work. Both the Dane and Tottenham have long wanted the England man, with Frank believing he is the perfect fit for system with his creativity and high energy performances.

Thomas Frank certainly has options when it comes to his Tottenham attack for the 2025/26 season. He could have a further addition to call upon very soon if Spurs can complete a deal for Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.

The deal hit a bit of a snag on Friday with the East Midlands club cutting off all communication and considering legal action against what they believe to be an illegal approach from Tottenham along with the potential revealing of a confidential release clause. Tottenham were set to activate his £60million release clause and the player undergo his medical on Friday.

The transfer is on hold for now but Tottenham still want to proceed with the deal. A £60million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would follow Mohammed Kudus' £55million move from West Ham.

The Ghana international does give Frank plenty of options in the final third but he mainly operated from the right-wing during his time at West Ham. Given Spurs have splashed out serious money on the 24-year-old, it would be a shock if he didn't start.

Kudus will compete with players such as Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert and Yang Min-hyeok for a position on the right. It remains to be seen when Kulusevski will be back from injury but he has been an integral part of the Spurs team in recent seasons and they are better for having him in the starting XI.

The Swede is of course an option when it comes to the No.10 role as well. However, that may now be Gibbs-White's position if he is to join from Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old has been a revelation in the position for Forest and contributed with some big moments in attack as Forest surprised everyone to clinch a European berth. Gibbs-White brings energy to the team and he would undoubtedly be a huge asset to Frank centrally as he makes things happen.

Quite what that means for James Maddison in the starting XI remains to be seen. Competition is one thing Tottenham do need, though, and rotation is going to be so important as Tottenham compete on four fronts given all the injuries that plagued their 2024/25 campaign.

On the left-wing, the main question heading into the new season is whether Son Heung-min will be at the club. The long-serving player has been linked with a move away after ten years in the capital and it could be the perfect time for him to bow out after lifting the Europa League final trophy back in May.

If he is to exit, Mathys Tel could be the regular starter from the left-wing after joining the club permanently from Bayern Munich. Spurs fans certainly didn't see the France Under-21 star at his very best during his time on loan but he did demonstrate in glimpses that he is a very talented player.

New head coach Frank could well extract even more out of his game and Tel will only be a better player for his four months in north London in the first half of 2025. Richarlison, Odobert, Manor Solomon and Mikey Moore are further options for Frank to consider from the left.

Up front, Dominic Solanke will lead the line. The former Bournemouth man will only benefit from having players such as Kudus and Gibbs-White around him, meaning he should hopefully get more chances on goal every game now after last season having to feed off scraps at times.

If Solanke is not in the team, Richarlison is next in line and then there are further options in Dane Scarlett and Will Lankshear for now. Tel can also play as a striker but is clearly more at home from the left flank.

Amid question marks over when Kulusevski will be back and what comes next for Son, it could be Kudus, Gibbs-White and Tel playing behind Solanke in Frank's Tottenham team to begin with. It promises to be a very exciting season in N17 with a new front four potentially leading the charge.

Tottenham are making moves in the summer transfer window.

Having agreed to sign Mathys Tel permanently following a fine half season on loan with Spurs in 2024/25, Kota Takai arrived in north London as a £5million signing from J.League team Kawasaki Frontale.

That may not have been the big name signing Spurs fans were hoping for, but they did not have to wait long to get one of those as Mohammed Kudus was unveiled as a new Tottenham Hotspur player on Thursday night, signing a long-term deal after a £55million move from London rivals West Ham United.

Thomas Frank and Spurs are not done there.

Before Kudus had been officially unveiled as a Spurs player, there were reports that Tottenham were in advanced talks with Nottingham Forest over the signing of midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

football.london understands Gibbs-White has a release clause of £60million which Spurs have indicated they will activate to sign the 25-year-old England international, although Forest are contemplating legal action over what they perceive to have been an illegal approach for the player. Spurs remain interested in tying up a deal, but it may take a bit longer now.

So what does that mean for Tottenham's 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign, and consequently their 20-man matchday squad for the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season against Burnley?

Takai and Luka Vuskovic - signed two years ago but arriving at Spurs now he is 18 - do not need to be named in the 25-man squad as they can be part of the U21 list. As can Tel.

Kudus and Gibbs-White will be named in the 25-man squad, with Kudus a non homegrown player and Gibbs-White qualifying as homegrown for Spurs in the top flight.

Following his transfer from West Ham, Kudus has selected the No.20 shirt that was vacated by Fraser Forster after his exit following the conclusion of his contract. It came as no surprise to see the versatile attacker plump for the number as he wears it for Ghana on international duty and he previously was in possession of the top at Ajax.

Gibbs-White unfortunately won't be able to get his dream number at Tottenham as the No.10 shirt he currently wears for Nottingham Forest is James Maddison's at Tottenham. During his time at Wolves after coming through the system at Molineux, he wore No.55, No.24, No.17 and No.18.

In a loan spell with Swansea City he was No.11 and then he inherited No.27 a season later after making a temporary switch to Sheffield United. No.55 is currently available at Tottenham but that isn't the case with the previous numbers he's had on his back.

Djed Spence is Tottenham's No.24, Cristian Romero No.17, Yang Min-hyeok No.18, Manor Solomon No.27 and Mathys Tel No.11. The numbers would only become available if any of the players are to depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the new season.

That means Gibbs-White may have to take on a brand new shirt number if he is to join Tottenham. As things stand right now, No.2, No.3. No.5, No.12, No.16, No.25, No.26, No.32, No.34, No.36, No.38 and No.39 are all available.

However, it is worth nothing that No.26 is virtually retired in all but name as no player has taken it on since club great Ledley King called time on his career back in 2012. No.41, No.43, No.46 and No.49 are also there for the taking.
