Ange Postecoglou can make good on three Tottenham vows - but still faces sack from Daniel Levy - Football London
Description

Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham future is the hot topic right now. The Spurs boss is unfortunately dominating the headlines for all the wrong reasons with his team currently 16th in the Premier League table after 33 games.

There is even a possibility that the Lilywhites go into Sunday's game at Liverpool one place above the drop zone as West Ham, who sit 17th at present, are in action the previous day. Tottenham need to achieve eight points from a possible 15 to avoid setting a new record for their worst points tally in a Premier League season.

Achieving those eight points may be quite the challenge when you take a glance at the team's remaining five games. Tottenham do have a further two games to come in the Europa League, with the possibility of an extra fixture on top of that providing that they beat Bodo/Glimt in their semi-final double-header to secure a place in the showpiece finale.

European success is undoubtedly the club's main priority in what remains of the season and there is a chance that Postecoglou guides Tottenham to their fourth European trophy come the end of May. That in turn would end the club's 17-year wait for a piece of silverware and also help him achieve one of the aims that was set upon his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2023.

Even if he does manage to lead Spurs to Europa League glory on Wednesday, May 21, his future may lie elsewhere going on Tottenham's Premier League campaign to date. As ever, the big call will come down to chairman Daniel Levy.

If Postecoglou is to exit come the end of the campaign then he may do so having achieved all three of his Tottenham goals. He spoke about them recently when asked if the Europa League has kept him going amid all the speculation surrounding his job as there's a chance no matter what happens to leave his mark on the club.

"Again, you know the only reason I mention John’s article, is because I think that is the general sentiment," said the Australian ahead of the first leg Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt. "I have said before, that is not what drives me.

"I came to this club with a clear purpose and vision of what the club needed and what I could offer. That is to change the way the team plays, to obviously rejuvenate the squad because it was a squad that was coming towards the end of a cycle and to bring success.

"As long as I’m in this position, that’s always my focus irrespective of whatever noise there is or what there may or not been in the future. I don’t see that, that should diminish my burning ambition, my desire and my determination to make that happen.

"Anything you achieve in life usually comes with a struggle. Certainly everything I have achieved in my life has come with a struggle from a professional perspective. This is just another struggle, but never through this struggle have I lost the will to fight for what I think is the right thing to do and I’ll continue to do that."

Given Tottenham's extremely long wait for a trophy, bringing success to the football club was always going to be top of Postecoglou's list after taking on the hotseat. It is something that has unfortunately alluded the north London club since 2008, and that's even after turning to top managers such as Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho following the decision to part with Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.

Postecoglou may not have had much luck in regards to domestic cup draws at Tottenham, most notably the FA Cup, but the Europa League could be the trophy he brings home. Another item that featured highly on his to-do list was to change the way the team plays and give fans their Tottenham Hotspur back after a succession of defensively-minded managers.

Postecoglou's approach was a breath of fresh air immediately after his appointment and supporters were treated to a number of eye-catching, attacking performances. A number of showings early in the season whetted the appetite and it resulted in Levy claiming "we've got our Tottenham back" in a Spurs fan forum in September 2023.

Those all-out attacking displays have been few and far between this season, with a 4-0 triumph at Manchester City in November the main highlight. Injuries have played their part in Tottenham's league woes but there have been plenty of occasions when things just haven't clicked in the final third even when having the vast majority of players available and time on the training ground.

Tottenham are a joy to watch when at the top of their game and 'Angeball' is in full flow. It is a far cry from the approach of Spurs' previous managers and the attacking brand of football needs to remain next season whether it is Postecoglou at the helm or someone else.

Finally, the Australian arrived at the club needing to lower the age of the Tottenham squad and form a group who can play together for years to come. The squad he inherited had reached the end of a cycle and it presented him with the chance of stamping his own mark and giving his team a more youthful look about it.

Micky van de Ven was the standout signing from his first summer in charge, with Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson also going on to make their mark for the club. In terms of those arriving last summer, 19-year-old Lucas Bergvall is now a first-team regular after making the move from Swedish club Djurgarden for £8.5million, Dominic Solanke has given the team a focal point up front and youngsters Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert have caught the eye in their game time.

Throw Mikey Moore into the mix after stepping up from academy to first-team football on a number of occasions, and with Luka Vuskovic finally set to move to N17 this summer, Spurs have some very talented players at their disposal who can feature alongside each other for years to come. Given three challenges upon joining Tottenham, Postecoglou will have completed all three if he manages to win the Europa League but that may still not be enough to keep his job in the capital.

What comes next for the Australian will all become clear in the weeks ahead.

Tottenham given Harry Kane ultimatum amid secret £54m transfer clause

Tottenham given Harry Kane ultimatum amid secret £54m transfer clause - Football London
Description

Tottenham have been told to re-sign Harry Kane next year.

Kane is Tottenham's all-time top goalscorer, having netted 280 goals during his 19-year association with the Lilywhites. But, having not won anything during his time with Spurs, he made the decision to move on in 2023, with Bayern Munich completing a deal worth around £100million for the England captain.

Kane is still yet to win a trophy, despite Bayern Munich's previous dominance in the Bundesliga, however. Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title last season following an invincible season.

Xabi Alonso's side also won the German Cup, while Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage, losing to Real Madrid.

Bayern have missed out on the Champions League and the German Cup again this time around, but they do look set to win the Bundesliga title, leading Leverkusen by six points with four games to go.

Kane is understood to be happy in Germany, but there is a 'secret' clause in his contract that allows him to agree a move away in the January transfer window to be completed the following summer.

That clause was not activated in the January just gone, but is available once more in January 2026 for a transfer in the summer of 2026, thought to be in the region of £54million, according to SportBild.

And former Spurs boss Martin Jol has told Tottenham to strike a deal.

He said: "It goes without saying, it would've worked better having Harry Kane starting and having the option of [Dominic] Solanke coming on from the bench, like every good club has, they should have at least two high quality options at No.9.

"I would buy Harry Kane back if the clause in his contract for £50million or £60million is true, and of course he wanted to come back. He's a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and a Tottenham legend.

"I really like Dominic Solanke; I remember seeing him on loan from Chelsea at Vitesse in Holland and liking him then. He's a very good player but, with no disrespect, he's not at the level of a top, top striker.

"When Solanke was at Bournemouth, he did very well in that position, but for Tottenham it's different – you have to make an impact, make a difference up front all the time. With all due respect to Bournemouth, it's one of the smallest clubs in the Premier League, so to go from there to Spurs is a big ask to really do the business.

"Tottenham have still been scoring goals – they've got good attacking players, the likes of Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, and of course they still have Son Heung-min. Son had one of the best partnerships alongside Harry Kane in the history of the Premier League. He looks a bit lost without Kane now."

The Tottenham player of the season that not everyone will agree on

The Tottenham player of the season that not everyone will agree on - Football London
Description

Ask any Tottenham Hotspur supporter to tell you their player of the season and you're unlikely to find a clear consensus of opinion.

The reason is because not only has Spurs' Premier League season been so poor, but very few players have been able to sustain a long enough run of form within that to be head and shoulders above their team-mates, whether through injury, confidence or not being a regular starter at times.

The Europa League has provided some respite for Tottenham with their run to the semi-finals where they will face Bodo/Glimt in the coming weeks across two legs, while Ange Postecoglou's side also reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals following wins against Manchester City and Manchester United.

There have been some highlights for the team and for the players, but who has stood out across the season through thick and thin? Some players who would normally come into consideration like Micky van de Ven or Cristian Romero have barely played this season, with their minutes far less than their team-mates.

Yes we know there is still more to come from this season and someone might push themselves to the fore in the final weeks, especially in Europe, but football.london has put forward some of the potential candidates at this stage with our thoughts on their suitability as the chosen one.

Dejan Kulusevski

Had the season ended a couple of months ago then there would have been little doubt over the direction of this award. In the first half of the season, Dejan Kulusevski was not only Tottenham's player of the season but for a period he was one of the best players in the Premier League.

He was creating chances galore in matches, topping the polls for that in the top flight, and was driving Spurs on when they needed him to inspire them. In all the Swede has 20 goal involvements this campaign, with 10 goals and 10 assists.

The problem for Kulusevski came when the injuries arrived for the north London club and he was played into the ground due to the lack of options. He has played the second most minutes in the team this season with 3,181 and in some games he could visibly not run up the pitch as he would have wanted to in second halves because his body had given everything. Then came a stress fracture in his foot and he missed almost two months of football.

All but four of his goal involvements so far came in 2024, so much will depend on whether you look at his season as a whole or recent months and his absence have robbed him of the prize.

Brennan Johnson

This might not be a popular choice for some because Brennan Johnson has had his critics this season. However, there is one inescapable fact about the Wales international and it's that he is Spurs' top scorer with 16 goals and with seven assists as well, the 23-year-old has popped up in some important moments and has more goal involvements than anyone else with 23.

The former Nottingham Forest man was on fire earlier in the season with a long streak of scoring for Tottenham when he just couldn't stop hitting the back of the net, including goals for his country.

In most seasons, the club's top scorer would be a strong candidate to be player of the season and with 16 goals involvements in his 30 Premier League games, there's been plenty of matches in which Johnson has played his part. It's not like he's scored against just anyone either with goals or assists against Newcastle, Brentford, Manchester United, Brighton, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Roma, Liverpool and away in Galatasaray, as well as some crucial goals at the time such as the last-gasp one at Coventry.

Lucas Bergvall

In the first half of the season, the teenage Swede probably wouldn't have come into the equation for this but Lucas Bergvall has become one of the first names on the team-sheet at Tottenham.

There were little signs of his promise before a tough night in Turkey as he struggled in the noise at Galatasaray. However, that proved to be the making of the now 19-year-old and he hasn't looked back as a shining light through an often dark time in Postecoglou's side.

That the senior Spurs players look to give him the ball as much as possible says it all. There has been the odd low as he continues to learn, like the recent mistake at Wolves, but there have been some big moments as well with the goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg and a trio of assists in the Europa League.

Mostly though it's been about Bergvall's industry in the centre of the park, his willingness to take the ball and get it moving up the pitch, either through spins, dribbles or passes and there's a little bit of the Mousa Dembele way about how he pirouettes out of trouble sometimes. He's only going to get better as well.

Djed Spence

Another latecomer to the party somewhat, even more so that Bergvall, as he had to patiently wait for his chance and when it finally came midway through the season, Djed Spence grabbed it.

The 24-year-old has turned his Spurs career around, become a fans' favourite and has been one of the most in-form players in an out of form side.

It began with a key goal at Coventry and an assist in the next round against United. Spence has proved to be a menace for opposition defences along with a string of strong performances at the other end of the pitch.

There's a clear growing maturity to the full-back's game and his ability on either flank has been a huge asset for Postecoglou in the past four months and he should have been used far sooner.

Son Heung-min

It says plenty about the Tottenham captain's ability to impact matches even when out of form that he's still on this list even in a season when he will admit he hasn't reached his usual levels.

Son Heung-min, currently out with a foot injury, has still bagged a remarkable 23 goal involvements in 43 matches, with goals in big games against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester United, Roma and at Hoffenheim.

Realistically, the South Korean star probably isn't in the running this season for the award but it just shows how much he can still contribute even when he's not at his best.

Archie Gray

Another teenager who is certainly worth a mention for his contribution this season. The 19-year-old midfielder has been thrown in at the deep end since joining from Leeds last summer, he's either played as a centre-back or as a full-back, and during the injury crisis he showed remarkable maturity and a battling spirit in the centre of defence, learning a role he'd never played before in any senior capacity.

It might not feel like it, especially with him returning to the bench in recent weeks, but Archie Gray has played the sixth-most minutes in the Tottenham squad this season with 2,838 to his name.

He's going to be some player in the future and this season, while it was not what he or anyone envisioned, will have been a huge one of learning for him.

James Maddison

Another who might not seem like he's contributed regularly, but James Maddison has produced plenty this season with 11 goals and 10 assists across the campaign.

The 28-year-old has got Spurs out of some sticky spots and come up trumps in big European games with goals against Hoffenheim and Alkmaar and assists in both Frankfurt legs if we're counting getting battered for the penalty in Germany.

His contributions in the Premier League around his injury have been pretty consistent with the two goals at Manchester City a highlight and the winner against United.

Maddison doesn't always get his credit but he's played his part in the successful moments of this season for Spurs.

Honourable mentions

Pedro Porro gets a nod as the player with the most minutes this season with a whopping 3,712 to his name - almost 600 more than the next player Kulusevski. The Spaniard has been there for Spurs when they've needed him this season, not yet succumbing to injury, and he's provided eight assists and three goals as well from right-back.

Dominic Solanke has had to battle away with very little service and spent two months out with a knee injury but has still managed 20 goal involvements so deserves an honourable mention.

Which player gets the prize for you?

Ange Postecoglou's Micky van de Ven Spurs call vs Liverpool as Son Heung

Ange Postecoglou's Micky van de Ven Spurs call vs Liverpool as Son Heung-min injury update looms - Football London
Description

We are now one week away from the first leg of Tottenham's Europa League semi-final encounter against Bodo/Glimt. Before the game against the Norwegian side comes around, Ange Postecoglou's Spurs team have a showdown with Liverpool to contend with.

Tottenham do not fare well at Anfield, with the team shipping four goals in each of their last three fixtures at Liverpool's home. The last of those came back in February as Arne Slot's team ran riot in a 4-0 win to secure a place in the Carabao Cup final after losing the first leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 1-0.

Supporters always fear games at Anfield and this one will certainly be no different with the Lilywhites currently languishing 16th in the Premier League table. Tottenham could potentially be in 17th position come Sunday's 4:30pm kick-off as West Ham, who are one place behind them right now, take on Brighton & Hove Albion away 24 hours earlier.

After the disappointment of losing 2-1 against Nottingham Forest on Monday, Spurs will be looking to put things right and restore some confidence prior to their Europa League return. So what will be on Postecoglou's to-do list leading up to the trip to Anfield? football.london takes a look below.

Sort out defensive issues

Tottenham have been conceding goals far too easily this season, with the last two Premier League fixtures against Wolves and Nottingham Forest prime examples. Forest found themselves 2-0 to the good after 16 minutes on Monday night and Spurs were incredibly lucky it wasn't actually 3-0 as Chris Wood had a goal chalked off for offside moments earlier.

The second goal on the night was so bad from a Tottenham perspective as Wood just eased between Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven to get to his head to the ball and Guglielmo Vicario was then caught in no man's land after coming out for the ball and getting nowhere near it.

Liverpool are the Premier League top goalscorers this season and they will be licking their lips at the prospect of adding to the 75 goals they have already netted. Spurs can shut teams out, as was the case in last Thursday's 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt, and they will have to be at the top of their game to keep Mohamed Salah and Co. quiet.

Defensive pairing

All the talk of Tottenham's defensive frailties leads us on to Postecoglou's backline of choice for the game on Merseyside. Romero and Van de Ven started and played 45 minutes in the Nottingham Forest defeat at the beginning of the week as their half-time substitution was pre-planned with the Bodo/Glimt fixture in mind.

Given the importance of both players to the team and their injury issues over the course of the season, Postecoglou could choose to do exactly the same or even drop the duo to the bench for the game. Kevin Danso could certainly do with more minutes after only recently returning from injury, meaning he could be a contender to start from the off against Liverpool.

Approach vs Liverpool

The main priority for Tottenham in what remains of the season is undoubtedly winning the Europa League. Tottenham's Premier League campaign has been a complete disaster and there's a possibility they could even finish one place above the drop zone considering their final five fixtures.

While of course all eyes are on a place in the Europa League, Spurs still have to focus on the Premier League as they cannot really afford another embarrassing result going into their match against Bodo/Glimt. It remains to be seen if Postecoglou will rest his main players for the game at Anfield, mix and match or go full strength.

The boss has a big decision to make over the course of the next few days and all eyes will most definitely be on the teamsheet come 3:15pm on Sunday.

Attacking trio

Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert made their case for a starting spot in Postecoglou's first-choice Tottenham XI with bright showings against Nottingham Forest. Tel followed up a strong performance at Eintracht Frankfurt and he was involved in eight of Tottenham's ten attempts on goal in the first half.

The Frenchman certainly looks better for starting the last three games and he is putting himself in a really good position for the left-wing spot for the Bodo/Glimt double-header. Postecoglou certainly has choice out wide at present and the same goes for through the middle after Richarlison's goal on Monday.

The ex-Everton man did miss a handful of chances on goal prior to netting a late header but his strike and first 90 minutes of the season will give him a lift ahead of his return to Merseyside. Postecoglou recently mentioned that Tottenham's No.9 will be given pitch time in the next couple of games and he may have done enough to start again.

The boss will have to weigh up whether he starts main striker Dominic Solanke at his former home or he gives him limited minutes once again to ensure he is fit and firing for Bodo/Glimt. A positive showing from the attackers at Liverpool this weekend could possibly make all the difference come the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.

Son fitness update

Postecoglou will provide an update on the injury front when he previews the Liverpool game in his pre-match press conference at the end of the week. Son Heung-min's fitness will be at the top of the agenda as the Spurs captain has missed the past two outings.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has sent a clear message to Liverpool ahead of their clash at Anfield on Sunday, stating his team is going there with the intention to win.

The stakes are high for Liverpool, as they could clinch the Premier League title against Tottenham at the weekend, although a lot depends on what happens in Arsenal's clash against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Despite having little to play for in the league and potentially facing their worst finish in nearly half a century, Spurs are shifting their attention towards the Europa League.

The Lilywhites gearing up for a semi-final bout with Bodo/Glimt, with the first leg taking place in north London next Thursday. Postecoglou has had to navigate through a series of injuries this season and opted for a rotated squad in Monday's loss to Nottingham Forest. That result has left Tottenham languishing in 16th place, a staggering 42 points behind table-topping Liverpool.

However, Liverpool's potential title celebrations could be put on hold if Spurs have their way. Despite the contrasting trajectories of both teams, Postecoglou remains confident that Tottenham can disrupt Liverpool's title ambitions. He has emphasised that a repeat performance of the one against Forest could see them topple the league leaders, reports the Mirror.

Postecoglou said: "It's a bit of a balancing act and we have to be smart about what we do. We have to be ready for Thursday in a week, with our players healthy. Good test against Liverpool obviously.

"If we play like we did (against Forest) but keep our concentration level where we should be then we can give them a game. I don't think you saw a team that wasn't motivated. It's not like we lost because players chucked it in.

"If that's what people saw then they're watching something different to me. I don't think they lacked motivation today because I thought our football was outstanding. But again we've paid the price for lacking focus and concentration in key moments."

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk is well aware that his side cannot take a win on Sunday for granted. He urged his team-mates to put their full focus into beating Spurs and against growing complacent.

“It’s a great feeling to be in this position, something we don’t take for granted,” Van Dijk said after the Reds beat Leicester. “It’s been, in my opinion, an outstanding season. A lot of good moments. A lot of good moments actually, a lot of wins and good performances.

“Now we have the chance to finish it off on the weekend against a very good Tottenham Hotspur, in my opinion. We played three times already against them this season and every game was very intense.

“We’ve got a week to prepare. If anything happens on Wednesday then happy days, if not then we have to finish it off and we have to be at our best to do that. That’ll be our main focus.

“To be in this position now, it’s a good position but we’re not there yet. We all have to realise that and we will. We’ll make sure of that. It’s a good week of preparation and then we have to be ready.”

Description

Bodo/Glimt look set to be far from full strength for their Europa League semi-final first leg against Tottenham. The Norwegian champions beat Lazio on penalties to reach this stage while Spurs pulled off a memorable win away to Eintracht Frankfurt to advance to the final four.

In what has mostly been a disappointing season for Ange Postecoglou's side, Europe has been one shining light and if Spurs win just three more games in the competition their 17-year wait for a trophy will be over.

That will be far from straightforward however, with Spurs' awful league form not exactly making confidence levels high. Four of their last five domestic matches have ended in defeat with Monday's loss to Nottingham Forest particularly concerning.

Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario are all likely to start the first leg but the quartet were all somewhat culpable in the three goals, one of which was disallowed, scored by Forest.

Spurs' lack of conviction is also a serious problem with numerous great chances missed earlier this week. However, player availability is one definite positive especially as Bodo/Glimt are struggling in that department.

Captain Patrick Berg cannot feature next Thursday as he is suspended due to an accumulation of Europa League yellow cards with that also the reason that his midfield partner Hakon Evjen will miss out. Andreas Helmersen, who scored a huge goal against Lazio, is also banned after he was sent off in the last round.

With three players already confirmed unavailable, it could actually still get worse for head coach Kjetil Knutsen as Ole Blomberg is now an injury doubt

The 23-year-old winger had to be substituted just 15 minutes into Bodo/Glimt's 2-2 Eliteserien draw against Molde on Monday. It is unclear how serious the problem is, but he was spotted departing the stadium on crutches and in a protective boot.

And yet somehow it could have been much worse for the Scandinavian side as yellows in the quarter-final second leg for any of Fredrik Bjorkan, Jostein Gundersen, Fredrik Sjovold and Isak Matta would have seen them also suspended.

Tottenham have no new injury concerns or players suspended with Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma, the ones at risk, avoiding bookings. Some players are also being carefully managed with James Maddison and Destiny Udogie not featuring at all against Forest.

Van de Ven and Romero meanwhile, both played the first 45 minutes before coming off with Dominic Solanke also rested.

Description

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been told that Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford is unlikely to sign for them despite the England international wanting Champions League football next season.

Rashford was exiled from the United squad in December after being dropped for the Manchester derby. The 27-year-old made just one more squad appearance as an unused substitute before agreeing to join Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.

Villa have the option to make Rashford's stay in the West Midlands permanent by activating a £40m buy clause. However, the forward would need to agree to the move before it is completed.

Our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News understand that Rashford is determined to wait until the end of the season before deciding his future.

It is understood that the forward is biding his time to see if a 'bigger club' would want him who can also offer Champions League football before committing to Villa.

Unai Emery's side are outsiders to qualify for the Champions League after losing to Manchester City on Tuesday night. Barcelona was a top destination for Rashford in January but the La Liga giants failed to make their interest formal.

Both Arsenal and Spurs were credited with interest in Rashford this past winter however MEN Sport understands that the United man has no interest in moving to London.

Such news is a hammer blow to the north London duo should they wish to add a forward to their attack this summer.

Rashford was at his best on the wing for United but has been utilised as a centre-forward for Villa to good affect. In 17 appearances, the winger has scored four goals and bagged six assists.

Ange Postecoglou sack truth as Daniel Levy handed next Tottenham manager dilemma

Ange Postecoglou sack truth as Daniel Levy handed next Tottenham manager dilemma - Football London
Description

Daniel Levy will have a big decision to make at the end of the season. He may well have to make it before the season is up.

Tottenham Hotspur are staring down the barrel of their worst ever Premier League finish. Currently 16th in the table, they are a position worse off than their previous worst ever finish - 15th in the 1993/94 campaign. That year there were 22 teams in the league.

With games away at Liverpool, West Ham and Aston Villa amongst home games with Crystal Palace and Brighton still to play, Spurs could end the season just one place above the relegation zone, depending on results in those matches.

It has been a horrific league campaign and Ange Postecoglou's job in N17 has been hanging by a thread for some time now, given the Lilywhites' plight.

That thread has come in the UEFA Europa League, however. Tottenham have a massive semi-final clash coming up in the next couple of weeks against Norwegian surprise package Bodo/Glimt.

Spurs are just three games away from winning their first piece of silverware since 2008. With it would come a place in next season's Champions League too.

Given they are up against Bodo/Glimt - the first time a Norwegian team have ever made it to the last four of a European competition - Spurs are favourite to lift the trophy in May.

That puts Levy in a difficult position. A trophy is what the supporters have craved for so many years and Postecoglou could deliver it. However, there is no getting away from the atrocious league form.

Postecoglou has been under pressure for many months now and there is a growing feeling that no matter what happens in the Europa League, he may well be relieved of his position at the club.

But the difficult Levy decisions do not end there. Who replaces the Australian if he is to leave?

A certain Mauricio Pochettino would be a firm favourite, given he has openly said on more than one occasion that he feels he has unfinished business at Spurs and would like to return one day.

However, as manager of the USA national team now and with a World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico to come in 2026, prising him away from a lucrative role would be no mean feat.

A poll conducted by football.london shows just how tough a decision it is for the Tottenham chairman.

When asked who fans would like to see in charge of Spurs next season, Postecoglou won out, with 36% of the vote. Pochettino was next with 27% of the vote.

However, what was stark about the voting was that no other names got anywhere near those two, with vots spread thinkly amongst the rest of the linked bosses.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank got 13% of the votes, Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola got 6%, while Oliver Glasner got 4% and Marco Silva and Kieran McKenna got 3%. The option of 'someone else' also took 4% of the vote, suggesting the market is wide open and there are not too many standout candidates out there to replace Postecoglou if the decision is taken to part ways with him.

Whatever happens, things cannot get worse in the Premier League than they have been this season. If they were, Spurs would be relegated.

Description

There are some big decisions on the horizon at Tottenham Hotspur as the club approaches its latest crossroads.

Every 18 months to two years, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy presses the reset button with a new manager or head coach, new directors above them and subsequently a large set of new players to suit the latest change in direction that the north London club finds itself upon.

This season has been one of the strangest in recent memory because of the extremes it has brought the beleaguered Tottenham fanbase with a dreadful Premier League campaign but also one of the club's best European runs in recent memory with only their second semi-final in 41 years.

The future of Ange Postecoglou has been the subject of speculation for much of the campaign and there are growing suggestions that even if the Australian was to win the Europa League with Spurs next month and deliver the club it's first trophy in 17 years, his time in N17 could still come to a close.

His vice-captain Cristian Romero has also spoken this week in an interview about wanting to play in La Liga as his next career move, while Tottenham's chief football officer Scott Munn has also been linked with leaving the club this summer.

The £80m Leeds United cash injection that could give Tottenham transfer boost - Football London
Description

Manor Solomon once again starred for Leeds United on a memorable day for the football club. Heading into their Easter Monday clash against Stoke City with a chance of promotion to the Premier League, the West Yorkshire side hit the Potters for six at Elland Road.

Leeds' return to the top flight on Monday was always going to be dependent on Sheffield United's result at Burnley, with the Blades going down 2-1 at Turf Moor in the evening fixture. It means that both Leeds and Burnley will be playing in the Premier League once again from August.

Solomon has played an integral role in Leeds' excellent campaign under Daniel Farke after wowing since his loan move from Tottenham. The hero on Good Friday with the only goal in a 1-0 win at Oxford United, the Israeli added two assists to his name in the 6-0 win over Stoke.

Solomon was on hand to tee up Joel Piroe for a sixth-minute opener, before assisting the final goal of the game as Wilfried Gnonto completed the rout. The ex-Fulham loanee received a score of nine out of ten for his display in Leeds Live's player ratings.

"Of course he got an assist. Actually, two. Showed great poise, accuracy and awareness to cross back to Piroe in the opener. Sublime cross for Gnonto's header," was the assessment from Leeds United reporter Isaac Johnson.

Solomon now has nine goals and 12 assists in his 39 games in all competitions for Leeds, with the 25-year-old having the opportunity to hit double figures for goals with Farke's men taking on Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle before the regular season draws to a conclusion in just under a fortnight. The winger's loan spell has proved to be an undoubted hit, following on from Joe Rodon's outstanding year at Leeds last campaign that resulted in a permanent move from Tottenham.

Now that Leeds United are officially promoted to the Premier League again, talk can begin about a possible permanent transfer for Solomon. Leeds are in line for a major cash boost following their Premier League return, with a recent interview with Dr Dan Plumley, sport finance lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, on Leeds Live highlighting that promotion could be worth around £70million-£80million to the club.

"Usually we work off a general £120million for promotion, but that's if you've not been in the league [in the previous three years] and have not been receiving parachute payments," Dr Plumley told Leeds Live back in March.

"So if we come down a little bit from that, then it's going to be a big boost, £70million or £80million [for Leeds upon promotion].

"And that's kind of consistent with a club like Leeds. The attendances have still been high in the Championship, so they've been able to command fairly decent commercial deals. So really the swing for them is all in TV money.”

Speaking in February, Farke revealed that his club would only make a decision over the winger once it was officially confirmed which division they would be playing in during the 2025/26 campaign.

"I always like to be in the driver seat as a club but if you have a loan agreement you're not in the driver seat, there are more or less three parties," he explained, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post. "It's not our players, you have to totally respect they are with us, that's great, we enjoy the time and then there is a time to speak about what the future might bring.

"It's not during the season, especially during a crucial time. You sometimes start talks behind the scenes before the end of the season.

"It will be crucial for them and their mother clubs, where we will be next season. Before it's confirmed it doesn't make sense to make decisions. It will only be made when it's confirmed in which league we will play."

Leeds are going to have to strengthen ahead of next season and Solomon will no doubt be top of the wish list for many supporters. Given the amount of options out wide and also question marks surrounding Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham future, it remains to be seen if the player still does have a part to play in north London.

Regardless of what comes next for Solomon at Spurs, Leeds will want to make him their player on a permanent basis. Now that the Premier League promotion is guaranteed, the West Yorkshire can start planning for the 2025/26 season and a potential permanent transfer for their star man.
