Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Adi Hutter as their potential next manager

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to be linked with a new manager amid speculation surrounding Igor Tudor’s future. Spurs were handed a major blow to their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier League with the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Spurs are now just one point above the relegation zone and dropped to 17th place in the table after being beaten by Forest.

Former Monaco boss Adi Hutter has been linked with potentially taking charge at Tottenham if the club decides to make another change of manager before the end of the season.

Hutter has been out of work since leaving Monaco in October last year, and has been widely linked as a potential replacement for Tudor if a change is made.

The 56-year-old has also coached Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, Young Boys in Switzerland, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, as well as Monaco, in recent years.

There have also been comparisons from Hutter’s playing style to that of England boss Thomas Tuchel, as well as former Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick and ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Hutter has already outlined what he wants from his players, as the former Monaco manager outlined his clear vision and playing style at his last job.

“I like for my teams to play aggressive football in a good way, to be proactive, with a clear idea of how to play,” Hutter said in 2023 when he was named Monaco boss.

“This must go with the desire to have a conquering state of mind, to show character, when you lose the ball for example. It is important that everyone finds their place in this vision.”

He added: “In the end, it’s me who makes the decisions, but I have to make everyone come together, all of these energies, towards the same objective. I also like to maintain a relationship with my players, to speak with them, because behind everyone there is a human being.

“So I want to create this link, because in the end it’s the players who are on the pitch, not me. We must therefore do everything to ensure that they are all in the best condition.”

Hutter has faced English opposition in the past, having taken on Arsenal in the Champions League in December 2024.

It was after the 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Gunners that Hutter praised Mikel Arteta’s team.

“I would say that it was important to see what separates us today from the best teams in Europe,” Hutter said.

“You mentioned Eliesse Ben Seghir and Maghnes Akliouche, and I think they delivered a very decent performance. They play beautiful football and I like that. Today they showed again that they are very talented.

“For their development, I think that this match at the Emirates Stadium was a good thing, against a top team in Europe.”

Hutter may also have, indirectly, had a role in helping Arteta become Arsenal manager. Hutter was in charge of Frankfurt when his team claimed a 2-1 win over the Gunners in November 2019 which went on to be Unai Emery’s final match in charge before the club went on to appoint Arteta.

Former Tottenham star Eric Dier also has experience working alongside Hutter during his time at Monaco this season, and explained why he liked the playing style of the Spurs-linked coach.

“Coach Adi Hutter's style at Monaco is similar to the aggressive play I performed at Bayern last year,” Dier said last year.

“I believe I showed my abilities well enough. I really like this style of play. Now I must prove that ability on the field.”

Igor Tudor was told of father's death moments after Tottenham loss - Football London
Description

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Igor Tudor was informed of the death of his father, Mario, after Sunday's 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

The Spurs boss missed media duties following the defeat in north London due to an 'immediate family bereavement'. Now, Tudor's former club, Juventus, have confirmed the passing of his father in a message to the Croatian.

They wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "We are close to Igor Tudor and his family. Juventus joins in the grief for the passing of his father."

Spurs later released a statement on Monday afternoon which read: "Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Igor Tudor's father, Mario. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Igor and his family during this incredibly difficult time."

football.london reported quickly after the disappointing result against Forest that Tudor was relieved of his press conference duties.

Bruno Saltor spoke to reporters instead and provided an update on his colleague, saying: "It's a personal family issue and obviously it's a difficult moment for him. I'm just trying to support the best way we can."

Spurs suffered a damaging defeat against their relegation rivals, with Forest now ahead of them in the Premier League table.

The defeat raised more concerns over a potential relegation to the Championship for Tottenham, with them now going 13 matches without a league win.

"The players got affected by the rhythm of the game and we couldn't find that rhythm to create more chances," Saltor said.

"The first half, the first 44 minutes I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game."

"I think in the small details, I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team," added Saltor, who held a similar role in the dugout during Graham Potter's spell in charge at Chelsea.

Calls for Tudor to be replaced for the final seven games of the season increased after the defeat. Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood revealed on Sky Sports News on Monday morning that he would takeover if asked.

He said: “I don’t think it’s too late, I would keep them in the Premier League. I believe that someone with common sense keeps them in the Premier League, they have the quality to be able to do it.

“You have to get them feeling good again, you have to get the confidence in the group, and you don’t get confidence by playing (Cristian) Romero, if you’re Xavi Simons and you’re playing Romero as a right winger and Xavi Simons just had his best game in a Tottenham shirt against Atletico Madrid.

"Xavi must be saying, ‘What have I done? You’re playing someone out of position in my position where I’ve just played very well.’"

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has explained what he would do to save the club in the Premier League off the back of Spurs' 3-0 hammering at the hands of relegations rivals Nottingham Forest

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has outlined how he would go about saving Tottenham from relegation in a 'come and get me' plea to the Spurs board.

Tottenham sit just one point above the relegation zone going into the final international break of the season. They fell to a damaging 3-0 home loss against fellow relegation candidates Nottingham Forest on Sunday, causing the Reds to leapfrog Igor Tudor’s men in the table.

The result piles more pressure on the Spurs interim boss, who has failed to win any of his five Premier League games in charge of the club, with four of the matches resulting in losses.

Tudor missed the post-match press conference after the defeat against Nottingham Forest due to a family bereavement.

But now, Sherwood has seemingly thrown his hat into the ring as a possible replacement, should the club decide to make a change during the international break.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: “I don’t think it’s too late, I would keep them in the Premier League.

You’re playing someone out of position in my position where I’ve just played very well.’

“Keeping the threats in the team. They have to work hard, they have to still do that, you have to tell them they’re his duties, there’s dirty work to be done, but (Randal) Kolo Muani played well against Atletico, play him, why’s he sitting on the bench?

“Play the players who have got the threats, but they have to know the work of the team. Dominic Solanke and Richarlison will run all day for you, they will chase lost causes.

“You play a little bit more direct, you come forward together and you go back together, but it needs to be organised.

“You’ve got (Guglielmo) Vicario in goal, he’s not great, he’s going to have a hernia operation, (Antonin) Kinsky is going to come in, I don’t think he’ll let anyone down, but you have to have a nice solid unit in front and they need to be organised.

“It’s not complicated, you drill them every single day, 11 vs 11, so they know exactly where their positions are, and when Micky (Van de Ven), starts dribbling with the ball and mazing around the field, you stop it and you say, ‘If you’re having to do that and Romero is having to burst forward and try to affect in forward areas, it’s because we’re not doing something right up there.’

“Stay in your positions, keep a clean sheet first and foremost, if you can’t win a game, don’t lose it, keep them organised.”

Spurs are back in action on Sunday, 12 April (2pm), when they travel to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland in the Premier League.

Tottenham are staring the very real threat of relegation in the face in the final two months of the Premier League and they need help

Tottenham need the cavalry to march over the horizon as they battle to avoid the drop from the Premier League.

Spurs are 17th in the table after Sunday's dismal 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest, despite the best efforts of the fans before and during the game. The north London side collapsed after conceding Igor Jesus' goal just before half-time and strikes from Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi confirmed Forest's comfortable victory in N17.

A number of Tottenham's injured players watched on from the sidelines and tried to cheer their team on to no avail, many of them hoping to be back to help out on the pitch.

One small positive on the day itself was that Tottenham's bench has begun to look stronger, but there are still some big players yet to return and interim head coach Igor Tudor told football.london ahead of the game that he hoped this current three-week break in fixtures might bring some more help from the treatment room and a couple of "nice surprises".

Here are four players who would give Spurs something huge if they can return for any of the final seven matches of the season even if they will take some time to get sharp.

Mohammed Kudus

Kudus suffered a serious quad tendon injury in the draw against Sunderland at home back in January but Tudor had some positive news on the attacker. That came after Ghana head coach Otto Addo, as expected, did not name him in the 26-man squad for the international friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month.

"So we have this big three weeks after the game on Sunday. He will probably do some part of the things with the squad maybe 10 days [after the break]," the Croatian told football.london. "I don’t know I’m not sure. We need to check but he is progressing very well. Already a little bit with the ball."

The 25-year-old had provided nine goal involvements in 24 Premier League and Champions League matches for Spurs before being run into the ground by Thomas Frank.

This big break will give Kudus more time to get closer to a return and it may be sooner rather than later that he is spotted on the training pitches at Hotspur Way.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur required surgery on a serious hamstring injury in January and Tudor mentioned both the Uruguayan and Maddison when speaking about Kudus to football.london.

"Rodrigo as well, Maddison as well. We hope the medical staff will make us some nice surprise in the next weeks which would be very important to have that," said the Spurs boss.

Last week Bentancur's personal fitness coach, Daniel Fernandez, provided a detailed update on his progress as he explained to Uruguayan radio 100% Deporte that the surgical wound had healed well and Bentancur's rehabilitation is currently around 15 days ahead of the original prognosis.

The midfielder has already returned to working on the grass after weeks spent in rehabilitation and strength training. Fernandez said that Bentancur should be ready to return to training by the end of March but would not be realistically available for first-team action until the end of April if there are no setbacks.

James Maddison

Maddison could be seen standing on the touchline on Sunday dishing out instructions to Djed Spence during the first half, clearly desperate to be part of things again.

The 29-year-old midfielder uploaded a social media video last week showing his trip to Manchester for further ACL tests and exercises to help with the final stages of rehabilitation.

Tudor had good news on the player when football.london asked if Maddison could be back before the end of the season.

"Yes. Maddison is already doing interesting things as well with the ball. Sprinting as well. I saw him. He is positive. He's positive," he said.

At training on Tuesday at Hotspur Way, Maddison could be seen running over to a nearby pitch to work outdoors in the sunshine alone with a member of staff.

Dejan Kulusevski

It's remarkable that we're speaking about Maddison with his ACL injury coming back before Kulusevski. Everyone has been waiting for the Swede to return, with estimates of his return from that patella surgery last April repeatedly pushed back.

Initially it was handful of months, then it became before the end of last year with Frank then saying he would definitely be back before the end of the season. As the Dane's tenure came towards its end, football.london asked Frank again about Kulusevski and he admitted he was unsure if the 25-year-old would play during this campaign.

On Friday, we asked Tudor if there has been any progress with the Swede and he could only say: "No, not yet."

The key for the Swede was always to be able to move without feeling pain or discomfort after a complicated knee injury that Frank said was 'historic' in how rare it was.

Sweden boss Graham Potter admitted this week at his press conference, after not including Kulusevski in his 26-man squad: "Dejan is making progress but not as quickly as we would have liked."

Whether the key Spurs man returns in time to help the club remains to be seen but his three team-mates might just be some nice surprises in the weeks ahead.

Igor Tudor sack call as Tottenham urged to make decision by Jamie Carragher

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has called for Tottenham to part ways with Igor Tudor after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest left Spurs 17th and one point above relegation

Jamie Carragher has urged Tottenham to dismiss interim manager Igor Tudor following Sunday's disastrous 3-0 home defeat to fellow relegation candidates Nottingham Forest. The result leaves Spurs languishing in 17th position in the Premier League, sitting just one point clear of the drop zone with seven fixtures remaining.

Tudor's record following six league outings now reads a woeful five losses and one draw. The former Juventus manager was appointed to guide Tottenham to survival after their abysmal winter spell under Thomas Frank, who was dismissed in February following merely eight months at the helm.

However, Tudor, who was absent from his post-match media obligations due to a family bereavement, has failed to reverse the club's fortunes in North London.

Carragher believes that due to the Croatian's failure to heed the downturn, it would be in everyone's best interests to part company during the international break.

The Liverpool legend told Sky Sports: "Unfortunately for him with the situation he finds himself in with his family and the results, I think it would be better if Tottenham parted ways with Tudor and looked to bring in another manager in between now and the end of the season.

"They have to do that now. It just hasn't worked, the manager's tried different things as well; different systems, different styles of play.

"Initially, he came in and was playing man-to-man pressing with a three at the back. He's now changed in the last couple of games to a 4-4-2, very direct football. So he's trying different things and it's just not working.

"And, as I said, harsh on the manager (if he) loses his job so early in his reign but the whole point and the reason why he got the job is that he has an instant impact, and that has not happened."

When asked about potential replacements for Tudor, Carragher said: "I think someone with an affiliation to the club in terms of trying to get the supporters involved.

"You've gotta think, 'How can we keep this group of players and this club in the Premier League right now? Okay, we need togetherness.'

"That was the first time I've seen it for a while in terms of the scenes outside the stadium (before the match) but they need something like that between now and the end of the season."

Tudor's assistant, Bruno Saltor, took questions at Tottenham's post-match press conference and was asked about Tudor. "It's a personal, family issue and obviously it's a difficult moment for him," Bruno clarified.

"I'm just trying to support the best way we can... I''m going to leave it there because I think, as I said, it's a personal matter."

Should Spurs decide to dismiss Tudor during the international break, it remains to be seen who they will turn to next in the run-in to lead the team away from the relegation zone.

The big question hanging over Tottenham after huge error and what Maddison did to Djed Spence

Here are our Tottenham talking points after their relegation battle defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday

A day that started in the bright sunshine with 10,000 fans lining the Tottenham High Road to cheer the team bus on its way to the stadium ended with clouds hanging over Spurs.

Igor Tudor had matters beyond football to deal with in the aftermath of the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest as he had been informed about the death of an immediate family member. That meant his assistant coach Bruno Saltor faced the media and said: "It's a personal family issue and obviously it's a difficult moment for him. I'm just trying to support the best way we can."

The Spaniard had to explain a football display that fell apart due to poor substitutions, errors off the pitch and on it and some costly refereeing decisions.

The Spurs supporters had more than done their part. They were organised, united and covered the street outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a way that evoked memories of the incredible Europa League trophy parade just 10 months beforehand.

When the team bus came down White Hart Lane and turned left a huge cheer broke out among the thousands there, blue flares were lit and the players got the best welcome they could possibly ask for.

Saltor was watching from his seat on the coach and said afterwards: "It was quite emotional for everyone on the bus and that's what we need because right now, all of us, we have the same goal and that is to fight until the end of the season and stay in the Premier League as this club deserve."

Inside the stadium the fans sang, they unfurled flags and they roared on the team at every turn. There was nothing more they could do. Yet once again they were let down.

The team selection from Tudor was uninspiring from the start, not harnessing anything about what made Wednesday night's win feel different from what had come before.

The key absence was two-goal Xavi Simons, who Tudor had told football.london on Friday was a 'beautiful surprise' with how creative and aggressive he was.

With Micky van de Ven playing at left-back and Pedro Porro as a right winger, it was a team half full of defenders and it showed. It was a side selected not to lose rather than to sweep to victory and that is a tactic that never ends well for Tottenham. To not dare usually means to not do, or utter do do if you will.

Despite all of that, while Spurs were not exactly creating a conveyor belt of chances they were still the better team in the first half.

Archie Gray hit a sublime cross-field pass into Mathys Tel's path and the young Frenchman saw his effort deflected wide of the left-hand post. Richarlison sent a header across the face of the Forest goal from Tel's corner before visiting striker Igor Jesus nodded a Kevin Danso long throw on to his own crossbar.

Richarlison, who was later flagged offside and appeared marginally to be, then fired a low cross inches away from the sliding Dominic Solanke's toe. The injured players were on the touchline shouting the team on, Wilson Odobert on crutches and James Maddison constantly leaping up to dish out instructions to Djed Spence down that flank.

Yet all the huffing and puffing was for nothing when every Spurs player missed Morgan Gibbs-White's corner and Jesus got away from Spence to head into the net in the 45th minute. The hosts had 13 corners in the game while Forest had three and scored from one, which summed up the situation.

It was the 18th goal Tottenham have conceded in the final 15 minutes of a first half this season, more than any other club in the Premier League. If there's a damaging time to concede, the north London side will find it and they have not won a single one of the past 31 league matches they have conceded first in.

There was still time though before the interval for Tel to see his shot from outside the box tipped on to the crossbar by goalkeeper Matz Selz and Cristian Romero appeared to be sent tumbling in the box as he tried to head in the rebound.

The fans took their frustrations out on referee Michael Oliver and his officials at the half-time whistle with potential penalty calls for challenges on Pape Matar Sarr and Van de Ven also dismissed quickly, with a few clear yellow cards for Forest players decided against throughout the opening period.

Yet Spurs had still been the better side and reinforcing that message would have been the way to go at that point.

Instead Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall, who had played 24 and 16 minutes since early February and January respectively were told to start warming up in the half-time break.

As everyone waited to see who would be coming off, there was no little surprise when Van de Ven did not reappear for the second half along with Spence. Van de Ven had clattered into the advertising hoarding so maybe he was injured?

"No, it was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward. I thought that was like a tactical sub," Saltor told football.london, not entirely seeming convinced himself.

The plan to give more dynamism to the team was to take off two of its fastest players. It was a huge error - a performance-stifling decision and a true head scratcher.

It's still unclear whether Udogie actually came on for the second half, so poor and rusty was the Italian's display, one low ball to the sliding Bergvall in the Forest box aside. The Swede offered some enthusiasm but neither presented any successful case for replacing Van de Ven and Spence.

Forest looked more likely to score as Spurs lost control of the game. Guglielmo Vicario, playing through the pain for the final time before his hernia surgery next week, saved well from the unmarked Neco Williams' header.

However, the Italian will feel he should have done better with Gibbs-White's goal on 62 minutes which went through him.

To blame Vicario though would be excusing everyone else in the build-up, Pedro Porro allowing Callum Hudson-Odoi to breeze past him and then Romero wandering back into his own box as if on a Sunday stroll with the dog.

It all left Gibbs-White completely free to score and he celebrated with his hands to his ears after being booed throughout the game by the home fans after the move that never happened to Tottenham last summer.

That failed transfer now feels like a sliding doors moment for the north London club and perhaps even Thomas Frank might still be in charge had it happened.

Or Gibbs-White may just have ended up injured. For every single outfield member of Tottenham's first team, barring newcomer Souza, has now suffered illness or injury this season with Tel becoming the final one to fall as he came off with what looked like a groin problem.

That finally brought Xavi and Randal Kolo Muani on to the pitch, although bewilderingly meant taking Richarlison, one of the team's best in the air, off as Spurs had an attacking corner.

None of the substitutes made any difference. The game was gone and the confidence built up in the rest of the week had dissipated.

Many of the fans who had given their all had seen enough and began heading for the exits. Only those glutton for punishment remained to watch Taiwo Awoniyi beat Danso to poke home Williams' cross to strike the final blow in the 87th minute.

It was only then that a service-starved Solanke woke up to have a couple of shots saved by Selz.

It was far too little too late and those same fans who cheered the team on to the pitch, booed them off it with the team winless in 13 matches and still the only side without a Premier League victory in 2026. Spurs are closing on the club record tally of 16 league matches without a win from the 1934-35 campaign.

Forest came into this game having travelled from Denmark in the early hours of Friday morning with less preparation and recovery time than Spurs yet ended walking away with a comfortable victory.

Saltor told football.london why he thought Tottenham lost this latest game.

"It's the small details. I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. Any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we're not able to capitalise on the opposition's mistakes and probably that affected the team," he said.

"That's our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. As you can see, the players, they care and they are 100% trying their best, but at the moment, it's not enough. We need to minimise any mistakes because we know that we're going to concede a goal."

He added: "The players got affected by the rhythm of the game and we couldn't find that rhythm to create more chances. The first half, the first 44 minutes I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game."

It can't go unnoticed that the Spaniard pointed out that Spurs were the better team in the first half yet a double change was still made to derail that. Tottenham lost any control of possession with those substitutions.

Tottenham are now 17th in the table and could find themselves in the relegation zone by the time they next step on to a pitch on April 12 at Sunderland if West Ham beat Wolves at the London Stadium two days earlier. Tudor had said on Friday that this wasn't a six-pointer against Forest but rather a four-pointer. However, if Tottenham's stronger goal difference has now been eroded by a six-goal swing.

Romero thanked the fans on Sunday for their efforts and said: "It's painful, it's a bad day, but the most important thing is to go away to national teams, come back here and have seven finals."

Spurs have their joint-lowest points tally at this stage of a league season, alongside the 1914-15 campaign if that one was adjusted to three points for a win.

They are in a complete mess and have used up their one card of asking the fans for their help by leaping on to the supporters' efforts and then not delivering themselves. Can they ask again? The fury after the third goal with the pained Vicario and the team getting booed suggests not.

What happens next in the dugout is difficult to untangle. Tudor has understandably bigger things on his mind right now than football and three weeks is little time to deal with the loss of someone close.

Tottenham must decide on their next move as well during this time ahead. Just seven games remain and they do not look capable of winning matches when it matters.

Can anyone improve a squad lacking in leaders at this late stage though? It is a club full of questions but no answers.

Would they have been better to stick with Frank until the end of the season? What would season three have been like under Ange Postecoglou and would it have been better than this horror show of a campaign?

Would this mess have happened under former chairman Daniel Levy or did he play his part in the downfall? Would taking some short-term or longer term gambles in the winter window have prevented the football and financial disaster on the horizon?

Should they have turned earlier this season to one of their own from within in Matt Wells before he left for his first managerial role across the Atlantic where he has won three of his opening five MLS matches with the previously struggling Colorado Rapids?

Do they turn to another Spurs man who knows these players well in Ryan Mason or to any of the older heads from the past touting themselves for the position? Do they switch attention to one of the other interim candidates they reportedly passed over for Tudor like Marco Rose or Edin Terzic?

Do they try to throw huge amounts of money at a permanent and available hire like Roberto De Zerbi, with a relegation release clause for the Italian, even though that would close off their other summer options if they stay up?

Or do they just stick with Tudor, if the Croatian wants to stay amid such a difficult moment in his personal life, and hope there can be more displays like the ones against Liverpool and Atletico rather than Sunday's second half mess? Will they get big players like Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur back after this three-week break just when it matters?

The biggest question of all is will Tottenham Hotspur be a Premier League team next season? The answer to that is looking more clouded than ever.

Cristian Romero spoke honestly after Tottenham's dismal defeat to Nottingham Forest which has only increased Premier League relegation fears

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has delivered a brutally honest verdict following the Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest. Goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi sealed the loss, with Romero making his feelings clear after the 3-0 loss against their relegation rivals.

When asked how to explain the performance, he told Sky Sports: "Nothing. This season is tough, especially in this moment, another loss at home. The first thing for the fans is thank you for today because they stayed with us.

"The most important thing for us is the last seven finals. Now, everyone goes to their national teams, and when we're back here [we] understand the situation is tough, but the most important thing is to play games like finals.

"It's like this, it's very tough and it's [been] a bad season. Honestly, me, the first responsibility. Football is sometimes like this. The most important thing is staying together."

Spurs headed into the game with optimism after drawing away at Liverpool last weekend and beating Atletico Madrid in a last-16 Champions League second leg, but losing 7-5 on aggregate. Romero was asked about how Spurs struggled to replicate those displays which saw him bemoan a constant problem they have faced.

He said: "When we played here against Atletico Madrid, fantastic game. The first half [vs Forest] was good but in the second half we lose confidence, lose the ball, concede another stupid goal. This is difficult but now it is finished. it is painful and a bad but the most important thing is go to national team and then back here for seven finals."

The result saw Forest leapfrog Tottenham and go into sixteenth on 32 points with Spurs remaining on 30 and just one ahead of West Ham United following their defeat to Aston Villa.

Igor Tudor has now overseen five defeats from a possible seven games, with pressure undoubtedly mounting on his job. He was not present to answer any questions about the performance or his future after the game due to a family bereavement, with assistant head coach Bruno Saltor stepping in.

He took questions on injuries, Tudor and the performance, but stated his belief that Tottenham can turn things around despite just one win from their last 16 league games.

Saltor said: "I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. And again, I think any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we're not able to capitalise on the opposition's mistakes. And probably that affected the team.

"And that's our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. And as you can see, the players, they care and they are 100% trying their best. But at the moment, it's not enough. We need to minimise any mistakes because we know that we're going to concede a goal.

"Yeah, of course [we can turn things around], we feel the support from everyone at the club and we're just focusing on how we can help players. Obviously, a lot of players, they're leaving now for the internationals and as soon as they get back, get back on the train, come and try to get everyone up to speed and prepare for the next game.

"It gives me the belief that the last two games against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, I thought they were a great performance from the first minute to the last minute. On the first half today, to be honest, I think we should have been 1-0 up at least

"If you look at the stats, we created clear chances, but as I said, right now, every small detail is going against us and it's about turning that around and that's what gives me confidence."

Every word Bruno Saltor said on Igor Tudor absence, why Micky van de Ven came off and Tel injury - Football London
Description

Here's every word from the assistant Tottenham coach after the heavy defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Premier League

Assistant coach Bruno Saltor stepped in to take Igor Tudor's press conference after Tottenham's 3-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.

Tudor had been informed of the bereavement of an immediate family member and Saltor instead spoke to reporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the heavy loss in a huge relegation clash. Ahead of the game, an estimated 10,000 Tottenham fans had packed the High Road to welcome the team coach and brought the noise for a huge relegation clash. However, despite a bright start, the players never matched that support.

The ball hit the woodwork early on when Forest striker Igor Jesus sent a header from a long Kevin Danso throw against his own crossbar. However, the Brazilian found the net at the other end against the run of play late in the first half when he got his head on the end of a Morgan Gibbs-White corner.

There was still time for Mathys Tel to have a shot pushed on to the crossbar by Matz Sels and Cristian Romero to be bundled over as he tried to head in the rebound. The official and VAR adjudged it was not a foul and the officials were booed off at the interval.

A double change with Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall replacing Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence did not help Spurs at all for the second half. They started to look nervy and duly conceded around the hour when it was too easy for Callum Hudson-Odoi to get to the byline and he pulled it back for the unmarked Gibbs-White to fire through Vicario.

It got worse when a deep cross from Neco Williams found the run of Taiwo Awoniyi to beat Danso and prod the ball home.

Our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those putting the questions to Saltor after the defeat. Here's the full transcript from the press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

It was a big day for the club, the fans turned up off the pitch but where do you think it went wrong on it?

I think in the small details, I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. And again, I think any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we're not able to capitalise on the opposition's mistakes. And probably that affected the team.

And that's our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. And as you can see, the players, they care and they are 100% trying their best. But at the moment, it's not enough.

We need to minimise any mistakes because we know that we're going to concede a goal.

With the double change at half-time, was Micky van de Ven injured?

No, it was a sub with the intention to give more dynamic in the left side and have more legs going forward. And yeah, I thought that was like a tactical sub.

How do you turn this around, this stadium is not a fortress for the team at all?

No, completely. The best way to do it is focusing every day on doing your best, trying to be the best version of yourself, trying to push through difficulties, focusing on every action, not focussing on the end goal. It's just focusing and giving your best every day.

That sounds a topic, but that's the only thing that you can do. And players, obviously, as us, we need to reflect on ourselves and try to get the best version because we need it now.

How is Igor?

It's a personal family issue and obviously it's a difficult moment for him. I'm just trying to support the best way we can.

Was it something he knew about during the game or found out after?

I'm going to leave it there because I think, as I said, it's a personal matter.

A three-week gap now, do you still feel as a coaching staff you can turn this around?

Yeah, of course, we feel the support from everyone at the club and we're just focusing on how we can help players. Obviously, a lot of players, they're leaving now for the internationals and as soon as they get back, get back on the train, come and try to get everyone up to speed and prepare for the next game.

It's 13 games without a win in the Premier League, what gives you that belief?

It gives me the belief that the last two games against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, I thought they were a great performance from the first minute to the last minute. On the first half today, to be honest, I think we should have been 1-0 up at least.

If you look at the stats, we created clear chances, but as I said, right now, every small detail is going against us and it's about turning that around and that's what gives me confidence.

I'm sure you were on the bus, what did you make of the reception from the fans?

I thought they were outstanding from the first minute when we were coming in and to the last minute. They stayed, they showed their support. It was quite emotional for everyone on the bus and that's what we need because right now, all of us, we have the same goal and that is to fight until the end of the season and stay in the Premier League as this club deserve.

Did Djed Spence go off with an injury?

No, everything was tactical. It was a tactical sub.

You said the first half was good but the second not so good, what was the difference?

The players got affected by the rhythm of the game and we couldn't find that rhythm to create more chances. The first half, the first 44 minutes I thought were good, really good, creating chances, getting into the box. In the second half, probably, we were unable to deal with the weight of the game.

How is Mathys Tel as he looked injured?

Now, it's still assessing and seeing if he can go with the national team.

Tottenham's 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest extended their winless run to 13 games and left them 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone

Tottenham's relegation crisis has deepened following their winless streak extending to 13 matches with a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Igor Jesus' first-half header alongside strikes from Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi delivered Forest a vital three points, enabling them to climb above Spurs, who have slipped to 17th position.

Igor Tudor's side sit one point clear of West Ham, courtesy of Aston Villa defeating the Hammers at Villa Park, but haven't secured a domestic victory since December 28, when Thomas Frank remained in charge.

Croatian interim boss Tudor presided over a win in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid during the week, following a creditable away stalemate at Liverpool the previous weekend. However, that momentum was shattered by fellow relegation candidates Forest, with Spurs enduring substantial jeers from supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium come the final whistle.

Tudor has now collected merely one point from a possible 15 in the Premier League. Tottenham possess four emergency alternatives should they trigger the panic button on Tudor during the international break...

Harry Redknapp

He's been absent from management since 2017, and it's 14 years since his departure from Tottenham, yet 79-year-old Redknapp represents one figure who might enter the fray for Spurs' remaining seven fixtures. Speaking earlier this month at the Cheltenham Festival, the Englishman said: "They know where I am if they need me. They need somebody to go in there and give them a lift and make them believe in themselves.

"They're bang in trouble, I must be truthful." Redknapp experienced a prosperous period at Spurs between 2008 and 2012, securing top-four finishes in two of his three complete seasons at the helm.

Tim Sherwood

Another figure who has expressed his willingness to return to Spurs given the opportunity. The 57-year-old Sky Sports pundit managed 28 matches as Spurs boss during the 2013-14 season following Andre Villas-Boas's dismissal, before being relieved of his duties that May.

Sherwood told Sky Sports: "It's a club I love. I know a lot about it. I spent many years there in different capacities. It needs someone to give them a lift at the moment, whether that's me or whoever." However, he hasn't held a managerial position since 2015, meaning Sherwood would constitute an enormous risk despite his ties to the club.

Ryan Mason

Could Mason undertake a third temporary spell as Spurs manager? Dismissed by West Brom in January, the former midfielder has remained out of work since. He assumed control following both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte's sackings in April 2021 and April 2023, respectively.

Mason secured victory in six of his 13 fixtures in charge, whilst also suffering six defeats, during those two periods.

With his standing having taken a hit from his unsuccessful 27-game tenure at the Hawthorns, the 34-year-old would undoubtedly embrace an opportunity to manage in the Premier League once more. Rescuing Spurs would significantly enhance his credentials.

Sean Dyche

Dyche endured just 25 matches at Nottingham Forest before his dismissal in February, though he constitutes another emergency appointment option. A pragmatic manager with a track record of building industrious sides who are difficult to overcome, Dyche's approach may not prove palatable amongst the Spurs faithful.

However, should he be prepared to embrace another top-flight challenge, which are unlikely to materialise elsewhere following his departures from Everton last year and Forest this term, he could potentially secure Spurs a handful of draws and wins.

That said, reports from earlier this month indicated the 54-year-old would be hesitant to enter the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

How has that not gone in? Spence sends Richarlison away and his low ball just misses the sliding toe of Solanke. The Brazilian might have been offside.
