Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for a new head coach after Thomas Frank was sacked by the club.

Michael Dawson has stated that Robbie Keane would be his choice for the job if Tottenham Hotspur choose to bring in a permanent head coach straight away following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.

The 52-year-old was sacked by the Lilywhites on Wednesday morning after a dismal run of form which saw Spurs fail to achieve a single win in eight Premier League matches. The writing appeared to be on the wall for Frank in the aftermath of a crushing 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Tuesday evening, as a chorus of boos rang out around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While Frank remained optimistic that he would still have a job by the time next Sunday's North London Derby rolls around, the club had other plans for the head coach of just eight months. An official statement announcing his departure read: "The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men's head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

"Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

"Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment - giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future."

As a result, a number of names have been linked with the now-vacant Tottenham hotseat, with Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner seeing their names brought up in speculation.

However, Spurs could alternatively opt to follow in Manchester United's footsteps and bring in an interim head coach until season's end before assessing their options this summer. Should the latter transpire, club legend Dawson says it's crystal clear on who will be next to take up a permanent role with the Lilywhites.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former centre-half said: "They've got a huge decision to make. I hear everyone talking about an interim - we don't know.

"We don't know if it's going to be an interim. If that happens, I think there's only one manager they're waiting for and it has to be Pochettino in the summer."

However, if they opt to go for a permanent replacement straight away, the former Spurs defender says there's Robbie Keane should be under consideration to take the job.

He added: "Or do they go and get someone now, and people are saying; 'Well, who will that be?' For me, there's someone there in the making, someone who knows the football club, someone who's got the passion, played for the club, loves it, will galvanise everyone and bring them in the right direction moving forward and that's Robbie Keane for me."

Dawson did, however, note that there it's unlikely Keane would head back to north London on an interim basis, given he is currently seeing success in Hungary. He added: "I can't imagine that, leaving Ferencvaros.

"Joint-top of the league, in the knockout stages for the Europa League, so you think - I don't know too many managers who would leave when they've got a contract there to go for an interim.

"But why not give it him on a permanent basis? They've tried Jose, they've tried [Antonio] Conte, they've tried Thomas Frank."

A Tottenham legend who knows the club inside and out, Keane scored 122 goals in 306 appearances across two stints with Spurs before moving into the world of management in 2018. In his budding coaching career so far, the Irishman has enjoyed a player-manager role with ATK, assistant duties with the Republic of Ireland, Middlesbrough and Leeds United, and head coaching jobs with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros.

Given that Ferencvaros are currently top of the Nemzeti Bajnokság I standings, it remains to be seen whether he would consider ditching his current club to help pull Spurs out of a relegation battle. Meanwhile, the club already have John Heitinga at their disposal, who could fill the void for the remainder of the season having worked as an assistant to Frank since January.

Thomas Frank was shown the door by Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday morning after a dismal run of form in the Premier League and a number of first-team players have instantly reacted to the news

Pedro Porro and Joao Palhinha were quick to show their support for Thomas Frank after Tottenham Hotspur sacked the head coach on Wednesday morning.

A day after a crushing 2-1 defeat on home soil to Newcastle United made it eight games without a win for Spurs, the 52-year-old was relieved of his duties, with the club scrambling to appoint a successor for next weekend's North London Derby.

An official statement from the club read: "The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

"However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary. Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward.

"We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future."

Now, in a showing of support, two first-team Spurs players have shared their well wishes to Frank for his future, as well as gratitude for the eight months they spend with the head coach. Porro penned: "Thank you very much and the best for your career boss! A pleasure."

Meanwhile, Palhinha wrote: "Thank you for everything coach," as he shared a snap of himself and Frank on the sidelines. The announcement of Frank's departure comes despite the Dane feeling confident that he was still the man to turn the tide in north London, despite Spurs languishing at 16th in the Premier League standings.

Speaking after Tuesday night's defeat, he said: "1,000 per cent sure. I am also 1,000 per cent sure that I never expected us to be in a situation like this with 11 or 12 injuries on the back end of this and what we’ve been facing, but I know when you need to build something and need to get through things, you need to show unbelievable strong resilience.

"I think it is fair to say there are a few before me up here not only for Tottenham but in many other clubs that have lost their head many times and I think you need to have a calm head, carry on, keep fighting and keep doing the right thing, make sure we stick together because we can only do this if we stick together.

"That is the board, that is the leaders, that is the players, that is the staff, that is me and that is the fans. We only get through this together."

When asked if he would still be in charge for next Sunday's clash with Arsenal, he added: "Yeah, I’m convinced I will be. I understand the question and I understand it’s easy to point on me, but I also think it’s never only the head coach or the ownership or the directors or the players or the staff.

"It’s everyone. If you do something right, you build something that can last. Of course, we are not in a top position now. Everyone knows - directors, ownership, myself - what position we are in, what we need to improve and what we need to do better. That is what we are working very hard on."

Thomas Frank is already in line for another Premier League job after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs sitting 16th in the table, below his potential next employers

Thomas Frank is already the favourite to become the next Crystal Palace manager after Tottenham Hotspur sacked him.

Oliver Glasner has already announced he will be leaving Palace at the end of this season when his contract expires. The FA Cup -winning manager is one of several options Spurs could choose to replace Frank in north London.

Tottenham's former coach is now also available to move in the opposite direction. Staying in London would have obvious appeal to the Dane after spending eight-and-a-half years at Brentford, first as an assistant head coach before eventually replacing Dean Smith in the hot seat.

Frank has gone from 8/1 to the 2/1 favourite with bet365 on their next permanent Palace manager market. He has replaced Roger Schmidt, who is now 4/1 as the shortest price.

Andoni Iraola, Frank Lampard, Gareth Southgate and Jose Bordalas are the 10/1 joint third favourites. Inigo Perez and Kieran McKenna come in at 12/1 just ahead of Spurs assistant coach John Heitinga, who is 14/1.

Adi Hutter, Marco Rose, Marco Silva and Steve Cooper are back at 16/1. Bo Svensson, Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi are all out on 20/1, with Robbie Keane at 25/1.

Julen Lopetegui, Kjetil Knutsen and Scott Parker come in at 33/1. Cesc Fabregas and Enzo Maresca are both priced 40/1, alongside Palace under-18s head coach Javier Alonso and Glasner's assistant manager, Paddy McCarthy, with Jose Mourinho completing the market at 50/1.

Frank, however, has already been warned that taking the job would be far from straightforward. The club's current manager has consistently complained about their recruitment.

Glasner most recently expressed disappointment at missing out on signing Dwight McNeil from Everton on transfer deadline day. He told Sky Sports : "We are all disappointed that this deal didn't happen.

"I already planned that next day on training with him. And then, right at the end of the transfer, it can always happen on deadline day - so many things can happen that the deal doesn't happen.

"And this, I was told, is that the terms of the deal changed in the last hours. And then the time is just too short to get the deal over the line, and then the deal failed.

"I can understand that he and his family are disappointed. But believe me, I had the same feeling, because I really have a huge appreciation for him.

Glasner added: "We're all disappointed that we couldn't get this deal done. And unfortunately, it happened in the last hour. And so I can understand his disappointment. I share his disappointment."

Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham after just eight months in charge off the back of a dire 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United

Thomas Frank has finally been relieved of his duties at Tottenham with his team sitting 16th in the Premier League. And the Dane had his fair share of run-ins with players during his spell in north London.

Despite only arriving from Brentford in June, head coach Frank has been sacked by Spurs after failing to win any of his final eight matches. The hunt is now on for a replacement.

The 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday evening was the final nail in his coffin. Other results on the night mean Tottenham now sit only five points off the relegation places.

In his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Frank didn't always get along with all of his players. football.london takes a look at four Spurs stars who clashed with the now-sacked head coach.

Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence

Perhaps the most high-profile and public clash Frank had with any of his players came after the 1-0 loss to Chelsea last November. After the full-time whistle, he remained on the pitch to applaud the fans, many of whom had booed his side during the defeat.

He gestured over to both Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence to join him, but both snubbed their boss and walked down the tunnel. Frank played this incident down when speaking later in the evening.

A few days after this act, Frank revealed both players had apologised to him. He said: "Micky and Djed came into my office yesterday and just said they wanted to say sorry for the situation.

"They didn't want it to look bad. So there was no disrespect meant at all towards the team or me. They were just frustrated with the performance from us and the booing during the game."

Yves Bissouma

Midfielder Yves Bissouma's off-field issues have often overshadowed his on-pitch performances during his time with Tottenham. In the summer, head coach Frank butted heads with the Mali international.

Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup in August, Bissouma was excluded entirely from the Tottenham squad that travelled to Italy to face PSG. When asked for a reason, Frank admitted that the 29-year-old had been persistently late and the manager decided to take action.

"Bissouma isn't here because of disciplinary reasons. He has been late several times, the latest one too many," said Frank ahead of what was his first competitive game in charge.

"We need to give love and have demands but there have to be consequences. There's been a consequence. We will follow it up when we get home and park it for now."

Mathys Tel

Young attacker Mathys Tel came to blows with Frank back in January when the Dane's team were stung by West Ham at home. Having started the game, Tel was withdrawn with Spurs trailing 1-0 in the 62nd minute.

The 20-year-old had played well on the night and was upset after being replaced by Dominic Solanke. He was seen raging on the bench and some reports claim he barely acknowledged Frank when he was withdrawn as Tottenham lost 2-1.

Fans booed loudly when Tel was taken off and Frank cleared the fiery situation up. He said: "I need to make decisions, of course. So I had to take one offensive player off.

"And I feel Wilson [Odobert] is a bit better to the right and wanted two strikers on the pitch. So that was the decision. There was nothing wrong with Mathys' performance."

football.london writers give their take on who is next in line for the Tottenham Hotspur hotseat in the wake of Thomas Frank's sacking, with Spurs at risk of a relegation battle

Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after just eight months at the helm, as the club scramble to appoint a successor ahead of next weekend's North London Derby.

The 52-year-old had faced mounting pressure for weeks as a result of a series of uninspired performances, with an eighth game without a Premier League win on Tuesday evening coming as the straw that ultimately broke the camel's back. A chorus of boos were heard around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the Lilywhites endured a 2-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle United, who had also seen their fair share of struggles headed into the fixture.

Despite his confidence that he was the right man for the job with Spurs languishing in 16th, just five points clear of the relegation zone, the club made the decision to part ways with Frank on Wednesday morning. An official statement from the club read: "The club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

With a hectic period in which Spurs will now look to appoint a successor, football.london writers give their take on who is the right man for the job going forward...

Alasdair Gold

Spurs have to go for the interim option for now because there's no long-term solutions currently available unless the club takes a big risk.

Roberto De Zerbi would help them in the short-term but the fiery Italian would likely fall out with everyone at Tottenham within a year. Meanwhile, Xavi represents a gamble with his lack of real experience outside the Barcelona bubble.

Mauricio Pochettino is the easy win for the north London club. The decision would bring everyone together and would finally answer the 'what if' questions left by his sacking in 2019. If he succeeds then the new board can take the credit, if he fails then they can say 'you asked for this'.

The Argentine would not be available until the summer, though, and potentially quite late depending on the USA involvement in their home World Cup. That means plans for the transfer window and the squad would be heavily delayed; it's not ideal during another rebuild summer.

Barring a remarkable turnaround, Xabi Alonso is unlikely to be in Spurs' sphere while Oliver Glasner's football would not excite the fans. An interim and then a move for Pochettino seem the safest best. The closest Pochettino clone in the Premier League currently is probably Andoni Iraola if a move for the Argentine does not materialise.

Aaron Morris

Spurs have left it far too late to look for a replacement for Frank, with relatively slim pickings in terms of managers currently available to pull the club out of a relegation battle. Roberto De Zerbi is the odds-on favourite to take up tenure in north London after parting ways with Marseille on Wednesday morning, but it's not a head coach I have particular faith in on English soil.

The Italian managed just 89 games with Brighton and Hove Albion between September 2022 and June 2024, leaving the south coast with a win percentage of just 42.7% - hardly impressive going. Mauricio Pochettino has also been linked with a return to the club he previously managed between 2014 and 2019, although given the United States national team would require "one of the biggest financial compensation fees in football history" to let him leave ahead of the 2026 World Cup, it seems a highly unlikely appointment just yet.

While Enzo Maresca is a longshot, his appointment makes the most sense to me at present - given he is a free agent since parting ways with Chelsea last month and has already proven himself in the Premier League. The 45-year-old helped the Blues to a Europa Conference League and Club World Cup double in 2025, and had Chelsea playing exciting attacking football - something Spurs have severely lacked under Frank-ball.

Whether the Italian would be willing to team up with one of Chelsea's London rivals so soon, remains to be seen, however.

Amie Wilson

Firstly, I think the decision to part ways with Frank is the right one for Tottenham. Once that disconnect with fans comes in, which has been there for a while, it’s very hard for a manager to turn things around. Tottenham needed a change to halt the slide towards the relegation zone.

So, now the golden question is, who should they turn to next? The first decision should be if they go down the interim or permanent manager route. I think Spurs are still in a position to look more long-term with the rebuild starting this season.

Roberto De Zerbi is available and has experience of the Premier League. I don't think he would be a bad appointment. A return of Mauricio Pochettino I think would be the ideal move in reconnecting the team with fans, but the compensation due to USA if he leaves before the World Cup could be a stumbling block.

If Spurs are looking more long-term, a move for Oliver Glasner would be one that could work. The Austrian has had a big impact at Crystal Palace and has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the season, it could present an opportunity for Spurs.

Jake Stokes

Tottenham should appoint Roberto De Zerbi. The Lilywhites need to bring in someone who can immediately transform their fortunes on the pitch while also laying the foundations for a long-term project, and I think the Italian has the tools to do exactly that.

De Zerbi takes no prisoners; he would light a fire in the dressing room and shift Spurs into gear, just in time for the business end of the season. The former Brighton boss would also bring an exciting brand of football to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which he can build on next season.

The Lilywhites have accepted mediocrity for far too long, and the Italian would quickly raise the standards. However, it remains to be seen whether or not he would be willing to go straight back into management so soon after leaving Marseille.

If De Zerbi wants a break, Tottenham should wait until the summer to secure his signature and, in the meantime, appoint an interim head coach.

Matt Abbott

Spurs have 11 days to appoint someone before the North London Derby, and John Heitinga is the obvious choice to take interim charge until at least the March international break. However, it won't be until the end of this summer when more options than the likes of Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi will become available, both of whom may have their eyes on upcoming vacancies in Manchester.

Mauricio Pochettino remains the itch that Tottenham have still yet to scratch, while Ruben Amorim and Xavi Hernandez seem long shots at this stage. Robbie Keane, meanwhile, would be a risk too far given his current resume, and likewise, Ryan Mason isn't ready.

That leaves a trio of soon-to-be-out-of-work Premier League bosses in Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner. All three becoming available this summer has obvious appeal, and Iraola would be my pick.

The way he has handled Bournemouth's outgoings over the summer and this winter, including Antoine Semenyo, was admirable. Glasner and Silva's constant complaints to the contrary suggest they would be ill-fitted to a club of Spurs' stature. Iraola's proven adaptability would be welcome for a Tottenham team beset by injuries for a second straight season.

Sam Truelove

What a mess. But we have been here before so many times with Tottenham Hotspur, so should we really be surprised?

The club had no option but to sack Thomas Frank, in my opinion, although I do feel sorry for the Dane. I liked him as a head coach, but his position became unquestionably untenable. Now, attention turns to his replacement.

There will be clamour for Mauricio Pochettino to return but the timing feels somewhat off. He is leading the US in the World Cup and would not be available until the back end of the summer. The Argentine could agree to return to north London after the tournament, but that would not be ideal as he would need and want to have a big say on transfer plans, pre-season and much more.

Roberto De Zerbi is another who has been tipped to replace Frank but he is just not what Spurs need right now. They need someone who is capable of getting them out of this mess, not a man potentially capable of securing relegation to the Championship.

Ryan Mason or John Heitinga seem sensible enough interim appointments, to try and get Spurs out of this mess so the club can reassess in the summer. Do that and one of Pochettino, Oliver Glasner or Xabi Alonso would be my picks, should they want to even come to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, of course.

Five interim options Tottenham could turn to if they wait until the summer to appoint a permanent successor for the sacked Thomas Frank

Tottenham have pulled the trigger on the ill-fated reign of Thomas Frank.

The former Brentford boss has been sacked in the wake of Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, which left Spurs 16th in the Premier League. With West Ham improving, the team are in a relegation scrap.

Many fans have been yearning for the return of Mauricio Pochettino for years. However, as manager of the US national team, the Argentine, who left the club in 2019, won't be available until after the World Cup this summer. To land Pochettino, they would have to hire an interim boss for the final critical months of the season.

That would rule out early favourites like Roberto De Zerbi, who would have no interest in holding the fort for a few months. However, there are a number of Spurs heroes who might jump at the chance to help the club in its hour of need.

Harry Redknapp

Along with Pochettino, Redknapp is one of the most successful Spurs bosses of recent times. Despite being 78, the managerial legend hasn't completely ruled out a return to work.

And a Spurs rescue mission, supported by younger coaches who also care deeply for the club, may whet his appetite and certainly wouldn't daunt him.

Tim Sherwood

An ex-Spurs manager and player who knows the club. Nowhere near as revered as Redknapp or Pochettino, but his short reign in charge was respectable.

He was also harshly sacked by Daniel Levy after leading the team to a sixth-placed finish in 2013/14. Sherwood then managed Aston Villa before another sacking and is now a regular pundit on Sky Sports after more than a decade out of the coaching game.

Ryan Mason

We've been here before, with Mason having caretaker spells in 2021 and 2023 and doing a steady job. Still only 34, he is on the market after being sacked by West Bromwich Albion.

A bonus is he will know many of the current players, even if it wouldn't be the most inspirational appointment. Perhaps a coaching role under a figure like Redknapp would be a better fit.

Jermain Defoe

A Tottenham hero who already boasts coaching experience at the club would presumably go down well with fans.

The former goal machine has previously worked within the academy before leaving to pursue a top job. Could that come back at Spurs? Stranger things have happened and he has the support of Redknapp.

Speaking last year, Defoe revealed: "Harry Redknapp messaged me the other day and said, 'When am I going to see you on the touchline?' I said, 'Boss, I'm trying.' A lot of the feedback I get is the same, it's about my experience."

Gus Poyet

A more of a left-field choice, but the Uruguayan is available after recently leaving K League 1 club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. He's fondly remembered by many fans for his spell as a player in the early 2000s.

And Poyet would presumably be eager to return to English football. While it wouldn't be a long-term option, he could inject some energy into a passive-looking side in the short-term.

Tottenham Hotspur have been dragged into a relegation battle, having failed to win any of their last eight games in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur have been tipped to avoid relegation from the Premier League by the skin of their teeth. The Lilywhites have spent much of the season in the bottom half of the table and, after a disastrous start to the year, they've been sucked into a fight for survival.

Spurs currently languish in 16th, having failed to win any of their last eight games in the English top flight. Thomas Frank, who was sacked on Wednesday morning, last tasted victory at the end of December 2025, clambering past Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Climbing to 11th, it was the best that Tottenham had managed since November, when Arsenal dumped them out of the top five following a humiliating defeat in the North London Derby. Following the win over the Eagles, Spurs were 12 points away from the drop zone.

Now, the Lilywhites are just five points adrift. Fortunately for whoever replaces Frank in the dugout, according to Opta, his side is set to avoid relegation to the Championship.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE! Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Tottenham have been tipped to win about 15 points from their final 12 games and finish the season in 16th place, with a 3.95 per cent likelihood of relegation. Only Nottingham Forest have been predicted to finish below Spurs and retain Premier League status, with a final points tally of 41.6 and a 15.2 per cent likelihood of relegation.

According to Opta, Wolves, Burnley, and West Ham will be relegated, finishing on 19.3 points, 25.8 points, and 36.1 points, respectively. Rod Edwards' side are supposedly guaranteed to go down, with a 100 per cent likelihood of relegation.

However, there's a glimmer of hope for Scott Parker and Nuno Espirito Santo, who have a 99.7 per cent and 74.6 per cent likelihood of relegation. Interestingly, Leeds United, who Opta believe will finish above Spurs in 15th, have a greater likelihood of relegation (4.8 per cent).

While Spurs have been backed to stay in the English top flight, Frank's replacement has plenty of work to do to turn things around. In the Premier League this season, only six teams have chalked up a greater expected goals against tally than Tottenham (37.6).

According to Opta, the Lilywhites concede 1.45 expected goals against per game. Even Wolves, who sit at the rock bottom of the table, have managed to, albeit marginally, stop other teams from enjoying as many high-quality shots on goal (1.44) per game.

Tottenham have faced 326 shots in the Premier League this season, far fewer than their relegation rivals and even those pushing for European football. Burnley (413), West Ham (387), Sunderland (353), Everton (352), Bournemouth (331), and Wolves (327) have all faced more shots.

Aston Villa (323), Forest (321), and Brentford (321) have all faced fewer shots than Spurs in the Premier League this term, but, with a game in hand over Spurs, they've conceded more per game. As for shots on target faced, Tottenham seem to have a far stronger defensive setup than their relegation rivals.

Seven teams have conceded more shots on target than Tottenham (109 in total, and 4.2 per game) in the English top flight this term. The Dane will also be able to draw confidence from the fact that Tottenham have only dropped 12 points from winning positions.

West Ham (20), Newcastle (19), Bournemouth (18), Chelsea (17), Leeds (15), Manchester United (14), Brentford (13), and Crystal Palace (13) have all dropped more points from winning positions than Spurs this term. While Frank's replacement, of course, won't want to squander a lead in the first place, it'll give them great confidence in the fact that there are far weaker teams.

Tottenham will be looking to turn over a new leaf when they lock horns with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium later this month. The Lilywhites have 10 days or so to recharge their batteries and sharpen their tools before going to war with their north London rivals...

Tottenham Hotspur will commence another managerial search after Thomas Frank was sacked this morning after the club suffered another home defeat in the Premier League last night

Tottenham have sacked manager Thomas Frank after just eight months at the helm. His final match in charge was a home defeat to Newcastle, which left the club dangerously close to the Premier League relegation zone. Frank was brought in at the start of the season to succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was let go despite ending Tottenham’s long trophy drought with a Europa League triumph.

However, Frank has failed to make a significant impact during his tenure, with fans growing increasingly dissatisfied with the former Brentford manager. Despite guiding Spurs to the Champions League knockout stages, supporters have repeatedly called for his departure as the team’s Premier League form has deteriorated. Tottenham are winless in their last eight league matches and have not secured a home victory in the Premier League since early December.

Right now, the bookies have former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi lined up for a potential return to the Premier League after the Italian left Marseille in an overnight announcement. De Zerbi's credentials would be something the Spurs board are looking for after he guided the Albion to their first ever European campaign and has done wonders at Marseille guiding them back into the Champions League before leaving the club last night.

Bookies William Hill have him down as evens to takeover from Frank but there are other names thrown into the mix too from the market. Fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino could be lined up for a return at 4/1 but will no doubt have to wait until the end of the World Cup in the summer for him to leave his duties with the USA national team.

Other suitors include former Man United boss Ruben Amorim and outgoing Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner who are trading at 11/1 and 10/1 respectively. Another former Spurs man is Robbie Keane at 7/1 who has been praised of late for what he has done at Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Tottenham have now released a statement to confirm that Thomas Frank has left the club.

In a statement, Spurs said: "The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

"Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

"However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

"Throughout his time at The Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future."

Thomas Frank's tenure at Tottenham has hit a new low after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle leaves them 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation places

Thomas Frank's spell at Tottenham has hit rock bottom following Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Newcastle United. There are a handful of readily-available options should the club seek to replace the Danish manager.

Frank arrived in June from Brentford, where he had established the club as a stable Premier League outfit. He took over from Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou and whilst the initial weeks showed promise, results have deteriorated dramatically since then.

Following their defeat to Eddie Howe's side, Tottenham have slumped to 16th place with only 29 points on the board. The club have already suffered 11 league defeats this campaign and find themselves precariously positioned just five points clear of the drop zone, with the crucial north London derby against Arsenal looming.

Pressure on Frank to depart has intensified considerably and several candidates could step into the breach at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should the board decide to act. football.london examines five managers who could take charge immediately if Frank's time were to come to an end.

Xabi Alonso

Following a breakdown in relations with the dressing room at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso departed the Bernabeu through mutual agreement in January, merely months after his May appointment. Prior to this setback, he had impressed significantly during his time in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

The Spanish tactician masterminded an extraordinary 2023/24 campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, clinching the Bundesliga crown whilst remaining unbeaten throughout the entire season, alongside lifting both the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup trophies. His side also progressed to a Europa League final.

Currently without a club following his departure from the Spanish giants, the former midfielder would represent an ambitious appointment were Tottenham to think big. Prior to his Real Madrid move, Liverpool were understood to have shown interest and he remains amongst the most sought-after managerial talents across the continent.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi parted company with French outfit Marseille on Tuesday evening following a string of disappointing performances. A humiliating 5-0 thrashing at the hands of fierce rivals PSG on Sunday proved to be the decisive blow.

De Zerbi took the reins at Brighton in 2022, replacing Graham Potter, and seamlessly continued the momentum established by his predecessor. Throughout his tenure spanning almost two seasons, he guided the Seagulls to a historic sixth-placed finish in the Premier League whilst securing European football.

The 45-year-old moved on after a less impressive second year, though he played a pivotal role in developing talents including Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and Kaoru Mitoma during his time on the south coast. His proven ability to develop emerging players, something Spurs possess in abundance, combined with his English football credentials would make him an intriguing prospect.

Xavi

Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez launched his managerial journey in Qatar before returning to oversee the Catalan club in 2021. Throughout his tenure at the Camp Nou, he delivered their first La Liga title in four years whilst also securing the Spanish Super Cup.

Xavi became celebrated not only for his attractive football but also for his often-overlooked defensive solidity, with his side shipping merely 20 goals throughout the 2022/23 campaign. His departure came in May 2024 following disagreements with the club's president and he currently remains without a position.

Bringing in the Spaniard would undoubtedly thrill supporters, as would his philosophy on the pitch. He has previously shown faith in emerging prospects, handing Lamine Yamal his first-team opportunity aged just 15. Additionally, one of Tottenham's standout performers, Xavi Simons, would surely relish the prospect of working under the legendary figure he was named in honour of.

Edin Terzic

Whilst perhaps not the most glamorous candidate Spurs could pursue, ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic delivered an encouraging two-year stint with the German outfit. Terzic started as a scout and youth team coach under Jurgen Klopp before climbing the ladder, taking charge on a caretaker basis in 2020 and serving two years as permanent boss between 2022 and 2024.

During his reign, Terzic steered Dortmund to DFB-Pokal glory and came agonisingly close to wrestling the Bundesliga crown from Bayern Munich in 2023. Most notably, Dortmund progressed to the Champions League final in 2024, ultimately falling short against Real Madrid.

Terzic departed the club following that final defeat, prioritising the club's interests and acknowledging that Dortmund needed fresh leadership after finishing fifth in the league.

Such selflessness would be appreciated in north London and the 43-year-old has demonstrated he possesses the tactical acumen to succeed at the highest level.

Enzo Maresca

Appointing former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca might not sit comfortably with Tottenham supporters, but the Italian did enhance his managerial reputation during his 18-month spell at Stamford Bridge.

The west London outfit brought in Maresca following his success in securing promotion with Leicester City. The ex-Manchester City reserve team manager steered Chelsea to UEFA Conference League glory in his debut campaign.

He followed that up by capturing the Club World Cup last summer. His departure came in January amid a spell of disappointing results and deteriorating relations with the club's senior management.

Maresca has been linked as a possible replacement for Pep Guardiola at City. But should Spurs seek a new manager with Premier League pedigree, the Italian would be in familiar surroundings in the capital.
