Tottenham have been linked with an interest in Raheem Sterling who is available on a free transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have ruled out pursuing Raheem Sterling despite his departure from Chelsea earlier this month leaving him available as a free agent.

The former England winger has been touted as a potential target for Spurs in recent days, with pundit Paul Merson advocating strongly for the move.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: "They need players in. Thomas Frank and Tottenham have been unlucky with Solanke, Kulusevski and Maddison all out.

"I would bring Sterling in. I think it's a no-brainer on a free transfer. I really do.

"You don't want to start bringing every Tom, Dick and Harry in to try and stay up..

"They just need one or two players in and get their players fit."

Nevertheless, as reported by football.london, Spurs have no appetite for any arrangement that would bring Sterling to the club. The 31-year-old spent last campaign on loan with Arsenal, though the Gunners opted against making the switch permanent this summer.

Spurs have mere hours remaining to finalise any eleventh-hour business they believe could help salvage their campaign. TEAMTalk suggests that Tottenham are weighing up a late swoop for Chelsea centre-half Axel Disasi; though that appears somewhat wide of the mark.

West Ham are also circling, with the defender reportedly undergoing a medical at the London Stadium. A transfer isn't fully concluded, with some uncertainty over the player's enthusiasm for the switch.

Questions have been raised regarding Spurs' alleged interest, with Sky reporting that the club aren't exploring the loan market for any additions between now and the deadline. Spurs boss Thomas Frank has made clear that he's eager to bring in players for a longer-term vision rather than 'stop gaps'.

"We are active, no doubt about that. If something happens, let's see," he commented following the 2-2 stalemate with Man City.

Luka Vuskovic has been shining at Hamburg this season with Tottenham facing a big decision over whether to recall him on deadline day due to defensive injury problems

Tottenham have a big Luka Vuskovic transfer decision to make on deadline day after suffering several defensive injury problems. The 18-year-old has been shining on loan at Hamburg this season and has become a regular starter in their team.

Vuskovic has made 19 appearances this season in Germany with his ability in both boxes on show as he has scored four goals this season. He also grabbed a goal and assist in Spurs' pre-season win over Reading prior to joining Hamburg.

The teenager is highly-rated and looks set for a great future in the game with consistent minutes at this point in his career the main goal for Spurs and Vuskovic.

However, the Lilywhites ensured they had the chance to bring him back if the worst-case scenario occurred with Bild reporting a break clause was included in his temporary switch which allows Spurs to bring him back during the January transfer window.

Despite that option being available, Vuskovic's father has confirmed in December that he will be remaining at Hamburg for the remainder of the season.

He said in December: “Until June, he is definitely at HSV, and after that we will sit down with Tottenham and see what’s best. I am extremely satisfied with how he lives and trains.

"I would not like him to skip steps and go straight to the English Premier League, which I believe is the strongest in the world. There is still plenty of room for growth. As far as I’m concerned, it wouldn’t be bad if he stayed in Germany.”

Vuskovic himself also spoke on his parent club the previous month with it seeming to be that their stance is also clear.

He said: “Tottenham? I hear from them, they follow me. They are a good club when it comes to developing young players. I don’t know when I will be back.”

A second spell at Hamburg next season over returning to Spurs appeared more likely following reports in England, but Hamburg sources have denied that is the case.

Given that his development is the priority, it would almost certainly take an injury crisis for him to return, but that is currently what Thomas Frank is experiencing, particularly in defence.

Kevin Danso and Djed Spence joined Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Ben Davies as injured defenders ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The Austria international started the 2-0 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt, but picked up a toe injury that kept him out of Sunday's draw.

An illness was why Cristian Romero went off at half-time of that game which resulted in Joao Palhinha and Radu Dragusin finishing the game as the centre-back duo with Archie Gray at right-back.

While Romero is unlikely to miss a significant period, Danso could face a spell on the sidelines especially with Frank's update far from promising.

He said: "Kevin Danso, having hyperextended his big toe, a ligament snapped, because he landed on the foot of an opponent, so extremely unlucky, like a random injury. He's got time with a consultant next week, so we don't know exactly the length of it."

Van de Ven is only out with a minor issue, according to Frank, which should mean Spurs are capable of dealing with Danso's absence without bringing Vuskovic back. That is because Dragusin is now back and fit to play while Palhinha has proven he may be better as a centre-back.

Joao Palhinha has offered his reflections after Tottenham fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League - courtesy of Dominic Solanke's brace

Joao Palhinha has conceded part of him had already accepted defeat to Manchester City prior to Tottenham's stunning second-half fightback.

A brace from Dominic Solanke, including a sublime scorpion kick, saw Spurs climb off the canvas and wrestle back the tide to stretch their unbeaten streak to four matches in all competitions.

Honest Palhinha wasn't overly confident of a comeback at half-time, however. When asked what was said in the dressing room, the Bayern Munich loanee explained: "I think just to keep working, even if the thoughts sometimes are probably the normal thoughts at half-time - that the game is lost.

"We are losing 2-0 to City and I think the reaction is sometimes the hardest thing in football, especially against a top team.

"Especially when you're losing 2-0. Like I said, we want to change the results, especially at home. It was a really good performance. I think we should take something more from this game. The reaction was so good and we are really proud of that."

What makes Tottenham's draw with City even more impressive was that they also achieved the feat without injured trio Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Djed Spence while captain Cristian Romero was also forced off at the break due to illness.

Still, Palhinha wasn't entirely satisfied because he felt Tottenham could have prevented both of City's first-half goals.

The former Fulham defensive midfielder continued: "We would be much happier if we won! But I think we deserved it, especially for the second half that we did.

"The two goals that we conceded were, in my opinion, too easy again. But apart from that, what we need to take from this game is the reaction in the second half.

"We tried to win the game until the last minute, so I think it was a tough game with a top team."

Palhinha was particularly proud of Solanke's second, adding: "We saw the clips back, it was an amazing goal. I hope he wins the Puskas Award for next season!"

Meanwhile, Conor Gallagher paid tribute to Xavi Simons after the creative and hard-working Dutchman turned in arguably his best display yet in Tottenham colours.

Gallagher said of Xavi: "Brilliant player, he’s one of those guys that you want in your team.

"He works so hard and he just wants to win. He has a lot of passion to give and obviously a lot of quality as well, so he's only going to get better.

“That’s why you want him in your team, he wants to get on the ball, he'll run forward, he'll create chances, score and yeah, he's great."

Tottenham Hotspur could face a busy deadline day as the club look to strengthen during the final hours of the transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur face an interesting deadline day as Thomas Frank seeks to improve his squad. The team’s comeback to draw with Manchester City on Sunday provided reasons for optimism but Spurs are still short of options.

The club’s series of injuries have created a dilemma. While targeting several deals on deadline day would be challenging, Frank has not ruled out dipping into the loan market to bolster his squad immediately.

"We’re still in the market, so it’s not that we are not trying, but it’s just that the short term also needs to be with a long-term view. That’s a big thing," the Spurs boss said.

"[A loan] that’s different, doing a loan that fits and can help us. That’s different compared to buying a player for £30-£40million, that does he really improve us much more to what we’ve got now? That’s two different things."

Huge deals completed

Spurs have already brought in two new signings during the winter transfer window. Conor Gallagher was the first to arrive in a £34.6million deal from Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old has slotted straight into the Spurs team, making three consecutive league starts since returning to England. Meanwhile, Tottenham have also welcomed teenage left-back Souza from Santos.

Spurs agreed a £13m deal for the 19-year-old who made 38 appearances overall for the Brazilian giant. The young defender is yet to make his Tottenham debut but was named in the matchday squad for the draw with City at the weekend.

In terms of outgoings, there has been one major deal after the club sanctioned Brennan Johnson’s move to Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old forward, who scored the winning goal in last season’s Europa League final, was sold for £35m, having seen his playing time decrease under new boss Frank this season.

Three possible deadline day deals

Spurs were previously poised to complete a move for Liverpool icon Andy Robertson before being dealt a setback. The experienced full-back, who is set to be out of contract in the summer, had agreed to join Tottenham in principle. However, Liverpool were unable to recall loanee Kostas Tsimikas as his replacement, which halted the transfer.

The club could choose to reignite their pursuit of Robertson on deadline day, especially if Liverpool are able to end Tsimikas’ loan spell at Roma. In midfield, Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche has previously been mentioned as a target.

Spurs were interested in the France international during the summer and Mohammed Kudus’ injury, plus the sale of Johnson, leaves a space for Akliouche in the side. football.london previously reported that Monaco were identifying replacements for Akliouche ahead of his exit, though Spurs face a race against time to complete a move before Monday’s 7pm GMT deadline.

Frank’s side have also been linked with Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush during the current transfer window. It has been claimed that Spurs were targeting a £26m move for the striker, who made a cameo appearance at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Frank has insisted that Randal Kolo Muani will remain at the club. Despite welcoming two new players this winter, the Spurs boss has admitted that his side’s injury woes have weakened his squad compared to the start of the transfer window.

"I think that's fair. I think we lost, I can't remember, six or seven players inside three weeks in January," he said. "That's crazy, and some of them extremely unlucky, definitely Lucas and Ben with clear contact injuries. Then there was, I can't remember all of them, but there were definitely too many. So yeah, of course it's weaker than we started the first of January."

Tottenham are set to add two more youngsters to their loan army out across the Football League on transfer deadline day

George Abbott and Alfie Dorrington are set to seal loan deals with Football League clubs on transfer deadline day with two sides leading the race.

Midfielder Abbott, 20, was on loan at Wycombe Wanderers in the first half of the season and just started to pick up some momentum when a quad injury ruled him out for months. He was recalled by Spurs in the January window to get fit after another smaller injury and now football.london understands Abbott is set to return to League One with Mansfield Town leading the chase for him in a deadline day loan move.

Mansfield have already signed Tottenham academy product Oliver Irow this window, with the 19-year-old attacker having scored twice on his senior debut against Port Vale.

Another Spurs player set to head to the Football League is centre-back Alfie Dorrington, who returned last month from his second loan spell at Aberdeen. The 20-year-old now looks to be on the verge of joining up with League Two side Salford City for the remainder of the season as they lead the pack of clubs trying to sign him.

Other Tottenham youngsters who could yet leave the club on deadline day include midfielders Callum Olusesi, who has interest in Italy from Torino, and Matthew Craig, who has just returned from a cruciate ligament injury. The likes of Dante Cassanova, James Rowswell, Rio Kyerematen and Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny will all be hoping to be the subject of late interest as well, although Spurs' lack of depth has required some of them to be on the first team bench in recent weeks.

There has been interest in midfielder Leo Black this month, with Birmingham believed to be among those who had shown an interest in the player, but nothing has materialised as of yet for the 19-year-old, who is out of contract at Tottenham this summer.

At this stage, Tottenham have decided not to loan out Mason Melia on transfer deadline day with the hope that the young Irish striker will soon start getting involved around first team training.

Spurs saw off competition from top clubs across the Premier League and Europe to snap up one of the biggest young talents in Irish football in the 18-year-old. His January move had been long in the offing with the club securing a deal with St Patrick's Athletic back in February last year, worth an initial £1.6million - a record transfer for the League of Ireland - with the potential for add-ons to double that figure.

However, Melia did arrive with a very minor back complaint, which he played with during his final months in Ireland, and the decision was made to deal with it straight away at Tottenham to ensure he could hit the ground running at 100 per cent with the north London club and work around the first team environment.

Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of the latest Tottenham Hotspur transfer news on deadline day.

Spurs could be busy toward the end of the winter window with Thomas Frank's side already completing moves for Conor Gallagher and Souza from Atletico Madrid and Santos respectively.

The order of the day could be outgoings and football.london understands that Mansfield Town are leading the way to sign George Abbott on loan.

One player who could remain in north London is Mason Melia, with Spurs not currently expected to loan out the youngster in the hope that he will start to get involved around first team training following his recovery from a back problem.

You can keep up to date with all the latest Spurs transfer news on the blog below...

Can Vuskovic be recalled?

Luka Vuskovic could see his loan spell at Hamburg cut short with Tottenham having a break clause that can be activated in the Janaury transfer window.

That is according to Bild, with an injury crisis possibly forcing Spurs' hand, however Vuskovic and his Dad Danijel have stated he will be remaining in Germany for the remainder of the season.

That is despite the fact Tottenham are in the midst of a big injury crisis with four problems in defence seeing Joao Palhinha and Radu Dragusin end the Manchester City draw as the centre-backs.

Cristian Romero started that game but was ill and taken off at half-time while Pedro Porro, Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven have all suffered injuries.

Several players could leave Spurs on deadline day

Tottenham youngsters who could yet leave the club on deadline day include midfielders Callum Olusesi, who has interest in Italy from Torino, and Matthew Craig, who has just returned from a cruciate ligament injury. The likes of Dante Cassanova, James Rowswell, Rio Kyerematen and Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny will all be hoping to be the subject of late interest as well. There has been interest in midfielder Leo Black this month, with Birmingham believed to be among those who had shown an interest in the player, but nothing has materialised as of yet for the 19-year-old, who is out of contract at Tottenham this summer.

Kolo Muani has 'said yes' to Juventus despite 'very complicated situation'

Juventus made a final attempt overnight for Randal Kolo Muani, according to Corriere dello Sport.

However, the situation is said to be very complicated to resolve because of Spurs' stance on keeping the forward. That is without even factoring in Juve's reportedly frosty relations with Paris Saint-Germain in their negotiations.

Spurs signing Raheem Sterling is a 'no-brainer on a free transfer'

Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News that Spurs should sign Raheem Sterling on a free transfer.

They need players in. Thomas Frank and Tottenham have been unlucky with Solanke, Kulusevski and Maddison all out.

I would bring Sterling in. I think it's a no-brainer on a free transfer. I really do.

You don't want to start bringing every Tom, Dick and Harry in to try and stay up. They just need one or two players in and get their players fit.

More on Spurs' transfer deadline day Mason Melia decision

Tottenham have decided not to loan out Mason Melia on transfer deadline day, with the hope that the young Irish striker will soon start getting involved in first-team training, football.london understands.

Now the decision appears to be that Melia will remain at Tottenham rather than be loaned out on transfer deadline day, and he will begin working with the first team once he receives the all-clear from his back issue.

Thomas Frank and Tottenham make wonderkid transfer deadline day decision

One former Spurs player on the move this morning

Watford have confirmed that Moussa Sissoko has signed for Panathinaikos.

Sissoko signed for the Hornets from Spurs in the summer of 2021, but spent just a single season there before joining Nantes after their relegation to the Championship. The midfielder then returned two years later and now leaves once more to work with Rafa Benitez at the Greek Super League club.

Tottenham in talks over defender loan

football.london understands that Salford City and Spurs are in talks over a loan deal for Alfie Dorrington.

Tottenham recalled the central defender from his loan at Aberdeen last month. That ended Dorrington's second stint north of the border, having also spent the second half of last season with the Dons.

Randal Kolo Muani exit 'very unlikely' despite Juventus interest

Randal Kolo Muani is very unlikely to join Juventus, according to Sky Sports.

They claim that a deal would only go ahead if Spurs can replace the Paris Saint-Germain loanee, so they are not left short if the forward were to depart, because they do not have the squad depth.

Tottenham transfer news: Andy Robertson 'plan' emerges as Real Madrid 'enquiry' launched

A round-up of the latest Tottenham transfer rumours on deadline day morning, including Spurs' plan for Andy Robertson and their 'enquiry' about a Real Madrid player who starred during the Africa Cup of Nations, as the club could look to add further attacking reinforcements before the winter window closes tonight.

West Ham interest in Spurs player rubbished after recent reports

Antonin Kinsky will not be leaving Spurs today, according to Sky Sports, who also reports that West Ham United had no interest last week, despite reports to the contrary.

The goalkeeper has played just twice for Tottenham this season, both in the League Cup, but has been part of every matchday squad.

Tottenham's stance on Mason Melia loan after St Patrick's Athletic transfer

football.london understands Tottenham are not currently expected to loan out Mason Melia today, with the hope that the young Irish striker will start getting involved around first team training as he closes in on recovering from a back problem he arrived with last month.

Tottenham deal 'fell through' over the weekend despite being 'practically done'

Callum Olusesi's transfer to Torino fell through over the weekend due to a change in circumstances, according to Toro News, via Sport Witness.

A deal is not said to be dead, but there are doubts about whether they will be able to revive a deal for the 18-year-old on deadline day.

Potential loan deal

football.london understands League One side Mansfield Town are currently leading the way to sign George Abbott today on loan from Spurs.

First transfer deadline day bombshell comes out of north London...

A surprise story on the other side of north London to start transfer deadline day, as Arsenal are exploring a move to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, according to Sky Germany. The Gunners were credited with an interest in the Italy international before his move to the North East, and are now said to be keen on signing the midfielder as cover for the injured Mikel Merino.

Spurs' deadline day problem as two targets dismissed

Tottenham dismissed Jean-Philippe Mateta and Raheem Sterling as targets before deadline day even began, as Alasdair Gold writes in his look at Spurs' plans.

The problem will be the quality of those players available. Raheem Sterling has been dismissed as a target, as was Jean-Philippe Mateta, now on his way to AC Milan. There will be unexpected approaches ahead and players galore offered to Tottenham in the final hours before the window shuts in the Premier League, Italy, Germany and France at 7pm UK time and 10.59pm in Spain.

Juventus enquiry could impact Kolo Muani's Tottenham future

Juventus have enquired about Beto's availability, according to talkSPORT.

Everton, however, are said to be unwilling to let the forward leave on deadline day because Thierno Barry is their only other striker. Juve want a new centre-forward today, hence their interest in re-signing Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, via Spurs.

Jhon Duran offered - but Spurs' stance on stop-gap signings clear

Alasdair Gold, in his look at Spurs' deadline day plans, has all but ruled out the club signing Jhon Duran on deadline day despite the striker being available this winter.

Jhon Duran has been offered here, there and everywhere to Premier League teams in recent weeks, becoming this window's Ademola Lookman, who himself is finally moving on and is joining Atletico Madrid. Frank admitted on Friday that while he does not want permanent stop-gap signings, loan moves are not out of the question to plug the gaps.

Mateta latest as Palace still waiting on Milan's deadline day decision

Milan will only decide on signing Jean-Philippe Mateta after their club doctor examines the Crystal Palace striker, according to Sky Sports. Spurs, however, have already dismissed Mateta as a target despite links over the past few days.

The latest on Maghnes Akliouche as transfer deadline approaches

The latest from Alasdair Gold on Maghnes Akliouche, as part of a look at Spurs' transfer deadline day plan.

Akliouche, who has just over two years left on his contract, is seen as a good professional behind the scenes and would fit perfectly into the right-sided number 10 role in Frank's newly-installed 3-4-3 formation. football.london reported earlier this month that Monaco were preparing for Akliouche's potential departure either this month or in the summer by looking for replacements.

The Ligue 1 club are still in the Champions League, though, and may want to keep the talented 23-year-old for the play-offs. The final day of the window is also not ideal for losing a star player.

Juventus boss Spalletti speaks about Kolo Muani opportunity

Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken about the club having 'the opportunity to play with' Randal Kolo Muani ahead of deadline day, saying:

We have the opportunity to play with Kolo Muani, that's a fact, we have to raise our level and our absolute quality. We need a player with certain characteristics.

Three attackers Tottenham have looked at before deadline day

More from Alasdair Gold on players Spurs have looked at ahead of making their deadline day plans.

Tottenham have looked at players such as the injured Savinho, Marmoush and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche. The latter, who scored against Rennes on Saturday, was seen as a potential alternative to Xavi Simons in the summer but would surely make sense as a presence down the right in Mohammed Kudus' absence and replace Brennan Johnson.

Spurs 'enquired' about Real Madrid move ahead of deadline day

One to keep an eye on today could be Brahim Diaz, as Spurs are said to have enquired about the Real Madrid player's availability, according to TEAMtalk.

Tottenham are reportedly one of several Premier League clubs to do so, including Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Spurs likely to make a late check on Andy Robertson's status

More from Alasdair Gold on Spurs' transfer deadline day plan:

Frank needs help, and this final day of the winter transfer window is a huge test for Tottenham's recruitment team amid criticism from the fanbase. Every contact Johan Lange and the departing Fabio Paratici have in their phones will need to be used. The attack will likely be Frank's main area of focus, aside from a late check on Andy Robertson's status.

The Scot was an unused substitute in Liverpool's win against Newcastle after playing the full 90 minutes against Qarabag, which Spurs had agreed in principle was meant to be his final game for Arne Slot's side if they could recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma. So far they have not been able to.

As Frank has done with the likes of Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel and Radu Dragusin, so Slot has said he does not have the squad depth to lose Robertson. Much will depend on what Liverpool do in the coming hours.

Spurs join Man Utd in scouting Stankovic

Spurs are one of multiple Premier League clubs who have scouted Aleksandar Stankovic, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

Moretto spoke on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel about the in-demand Club Brugge midfielder:

Many English clubs have gone to watch him and scout him live – Tottenham, Manchester United, lots of teams.

Neymar was not happy when a Paris Saint-Germain star completed his move to Tottenham on transfer deadline day

Neymar once labelled Lucas Moura's January deadline day transfer to Tottenham "very unfair".

Lucas was signed from Sao Paulo by Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 for £33.5million, marking him as one of the most promising Brazilians in world football. Yet by January 2018, the winger was deemed expendable by then-manager Unai Emery.

Spurs showed a keen interest in signing the pacey forward that month and were able to snap up the then-25-year-old in a deadline day deal worth £25m. He penned a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Lilywhites, in the process becoming their record January transfer up to that point.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE!Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

However, his sudden PSG exit did not go down well with his compatriot and close friend , Neymar, who was then one of the biggest stars on the planet and had joined PSG for a world-record fee the previous summer.

Neymar believed Lucas, who had enjoyed his best season the previous campaign with 12 goals, was unfairly frozen out by Emery. Despite the Brazilian sensation's disapproval, his own arrival had contributed a great deal to Lucas' lack of minutes.

"I'm sad because he's a good friend, a quality player who has been used very little," the former Barcelona man said following PSG's Coupe de la Ligue semi-final win at Rennes.

"I think it's very unfair. He's my brother in football. I wish him all the best. Regardless of the destination, I hope he'll score a lot of goals and that he'll return to the Brazil team."

Neymar added: "He's not just a friend, he's someone who has a lot of quality. He could have been used a lot more here, I'm sure of that, but I'm not the team's owner. For me, he should never have left Paris."

Nevertheless, Lucas was delighted with his move to the Premier League. The club announced his arrival with a video involving a handshake with former PSG team-mate Serge Aurier.

Lucas said: "I’m so, so happy. It’s a new chapter in my life, a new challenge for me. I’ve joined a big club with big players and I look forward to playing and helping the team.

"I can play in the Champions League, which is a big objective for me and to make new friends is always a pleasure. I will give my best for this club. I think we have a lot of quality and I think we can win big things."

He very nearly did just that when he scored an incredible second-half hat-trick against Ajax to secure a famous Champions League semi-finals victory on aggregate. Unfortunately for Spurs, they would lose to Liverpool in the final, though Lucas’ legacy was cemented for his role.

Lucas went on to help Spurs reach the EFL Cup final in 2020/21, which they also lost to Manchester City. It was announced in January 2023, five years after his move, that his contract would not be extended in north London.

He joined boyhood club Sao Paulo that August. The 33-year-old remains a key player for the Brazilian giants and extended his contract until the end of 2026 in December.

Tottenham have decided what comes next for one of their talented new January transfer window arrivals at the club

Tottenham have decided not to loan out Mason Melia on transfer deadline day with the hope that the young Irish striker will soon start getting involved around first team training, football.london understands.

However, Melia did arrive with a very minor back complaint, which he played with during his final months in Ireland, and the decision was made to deal with it straight away at Tottenham to ensure he could hit the ground running at 100 per cent with the north London club.

The forward has already played 98 senior matches for St Pat's, including Europa League games, despite his age and been directly involved in 33 goals, scoring 25 and recording eight assists.

When football.london asked Frank about the youngster and what the club would do with him just before Melia's arrival he said: "There are a lot of moving parts and then when we know all the moving parts, we’ll take the final decision on what we’re doing."

Now the decision appears to be made by the Dane and the coaching staff that Melia will remain at Tottenham rather than be loaned out on transfer deadline day and he will begin working around the first team once he is given the all clear from his back issue.

Spurs have let Dane Scarlett go out on loan to Scottish side Hibernian and Melia can take his place in the Premier League U21 squad list but cannot be registered for the Champions League unless a first team player were to drop out for him.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Josh Keeley told football.london last summer after joining Luton Town to expect big things from the teenager once he settles into life at the Premier League club.

"I mean he is a young lad, who has played a lot of senior games at the minute and he is playing constantly for St Pats. I think him coming over, signing for Spurs and getting to know all the boys is only going to help him progress," said the keeper. "He is going to do very, very well."

Tottenham, who have been busy in the January transfer window, could look at signing an attacking reinforcement with just hours remaining in the transfer window

Tottenham and their Premier League counterparts have only hours remaining to finalise any transfers before the 7pm deadline. Spurs have already been busy during the window, completing several incoming and outgoing transactions.

Thus far, they have secured deals for midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and full-back Souza from Santos. As the window enters its closing stages, bolstering their attacking options is anticipated to be amongst Spurs' top priorities.

Reports suggest the club have considered players including Marmoush, Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche and the injured Savinho, though whether an attacking signing materialises in time is yet to be determined.

Following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City, Spurs manager Thomas Frank commented: "I have plenty of support. We are definitely still in the market. We hit a little bit hard with injuries but let's see."

With that in mind, football.london has examined the latest transfer speculation surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Brahim Diaz 'enquiry'

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are amongst the Premier League clubs to have made enquiries regarding the Real Madrid player's availability. His long-term prospects under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa have been questioned since his return to the club following the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite his standout performance in the tournament with Morocco, the 24-year-old is reportedly on the periphery under Arbeloa, whose early team selections have given the playmaker limited opportunities to shine. Those close to the player concede there's 'little chance' of this situation improving in the near future.

As a result, Diaz's agents have begun 'discreetly sounding' out the market, reaching out to clubs across Europe to assess potential interest ahead of a possible transfer.

Andy Robertson 'plan'

In terms of Robertson's 'plan', football.london understands that Spurs could conduct 'a late check on Andy Robertson's status.'

Liverpool are believed to have initiated preliminary discussions with Tottenham last week regarding a potential move for the left-back, whose contract expires this summer. Robertson is thought to be seeking more regular playing time ahead of the World Cup, but the Reds have been unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has since indicated he expects Robertson to stay at Anfield.

"He will be part of the team and nothing is happening on this side," Slot stated.

"It's hard to say anything definite in this world we are in but I expect him to stay."

Here are our Tottenham talking points after the 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday evening

The boos at half-time were replaced by cheers at the final whistle as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rose to acknowledge what their battered, patched up and very much makeshift team had just done.

For Spurs had 11 players out injured and then lost captain Cristian Romero at half-time to an illness that he had battled through in Frankfurt but looked drained with against Manchester City despite his desire to play.

That left a back four containing two midfielders in Joao Palhinha and teenager Archie Gray, as well as Radu Dragusin starting his first match in a year alongside Destiny Udogie, who himself is being eased back into regular football again.

At 2-0 down with City looking comfortable in second gear, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Thomas Frank and his men.

The Dane switched to a 4-4-2 and up stepped 19-year-old Gray. It was a run from the teenager from the right and into the centre of the pitch, slaloming past challenges with the underrated technical ability he has that ignited the crowd and his team-mates.

The move ended with Conor Gallagher firing over the crossbar but it gave those players in white on the pitch and the fans in the stand a perfectly-timed reminder that they could cause damage to a City side that bears psychological scars from this stadium.

The Manchester side are seemingly the only team that fear playing in N17 more than Tottenham.

Udogie had a powerful shot pushed over by Gianluigi Donnarumma and everyone started to believe again after a first half devoid of confidence from the players and atmosphere inside the stadium.

Now the noise returned and it helped that Spurs had scrappers in key positions on the pitch in Conor Gallagher, Palhinha, Gray, Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke.

Xavi in particular took control of proceedings. The Dutchman has been progressively getting to grips with life in England over recent weeks but this game against top level opposition felt like his calling card, the match that showed what he can become for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old has traits of other Spurs playmakers of recent years but with a grit and fight that has been etched into him from battling his way up the ladder inside two of football's biggest clubs.

His pass to Solanke eight minutes into the second half with the outside of his right foot was exquisite.

The striker ran on to it and chopped the ball with his heel to cut inside and as he did so Marc Guehi stood on his foot, Solanke hit the City's defender's leg with the other foot but close-up replays of the moment showed the striker also touched the ball at the same time and sent it over Donnarumma and into the net.

VAR checked for offside and the foul and found nothing to change the referee's on-pitch decision.

Pep Guardiola was livid, seeing the replay on the big screen, pointing and remonstrating while earning himself a yellow card.

"If a central defender does it to a striker it's a penalty," he said.

Guardiola didn't happen to mention the numerous occasions that Rodri could have got a second yellow card for City before he took him off.

Frank told football.london of Solanke's first goal: "I think there's clear contact from him on [the ball]. We want, in general, a higher threshold. I understand it's in the grey area. I think if the Liverpool goal, Ekitike, was in my opinion still, two clear hands in the back of Romero. So I think it's no grey areas.

"Very happy it finally dropped to us, which I think was more than fair. And the second one was something we, of course, trained yesterday, so it went well."

That second part was a joke from the Dane and there was no doubt about Solanke's next spectacular strike or the quality.

Frank had gone for it, throwing Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel into the fray for Yves Bissouma, who had gifted City the ball for Rayan Cherki's first half goal, and Randal Kolo Muani, who had put in an energetic if fruitless display.

Spurs' second goal though was created by Gallagher, racing on to a loose header from Guehi and battling between two players before whipping it into the box. Meeting it was Solanke with the most audacious scorpion kick with his right heel, sending the ball looping up and over Donnarumma, who could only help it on its way into his net.

It was such a wonderful goal that every replay on the big screen in the aftermath - and there were about four of them - were met by almost all of the 61,337-strong crowd going 'oooooh' in unison.

It was a fourth goal for Solanke in as many games and behind him Xavi wanted more.

The Dutchman embarked on a series of dribbles during the game, one after the second goal which resulted in him teeing up Odobert to shoot, only for the keeper to save low down with his right foot. Then set up by the dribbling Tel, Xavi had his own curling effort tipped over the crossbar by Donnarumma.

The hosts' third goal should have come soon after when Xavi won the ball back high up the pitch down the left flank and ran into the City box before squaring for Odobert, but the Frenchman could not quite force the ball home from close range as he nipped in front of Guehi.

Xavi did everything possible in a huge performance. Among the Spurs players he had the most touches (84), won the most duels (10), had the most successful take-ons (4), won back possession the most (7), took five shots, created four chances and won four fouls.

"I think Xavi was exceptional today. He's a very good footballer, but he's probably an even bigger winner and fighter. So the way he fights with the team is exceptional and how he's part of driving the team forward I think is very impressive," said the Tottenham boss.

Gallagher added on his midfield team-mate: "Brilliant player. He's one of those guys that you want in your team. He works so hard and just wants to win. He has a lot of passion and obviously a lot of quality as well, so he's only going to get better and yeah he's top."

Spurs' makeshift defence battled away at the other end, ensuring City did not have a single effort on target in the second half.

Palhinha was a colossus, winning seven of his eight duels, making six tackles and winning possession five times along with five clearances.

Udogie never stopped sprinting down the left and Gray ran himself into the ground, picking up knocks aplenty in the second half and limping around in the final moments, while working behind 17-year-old Jun'ai Byfield. Such is Spurs' injury crisis, the young centre-back was brought on for his Premier League debut as a right winger.

Then there was Dragusin. The Romanian began the game looking exactly like someone making their first start in 372 days, as much of the play passed him by, including Cherki for the first goal.

Then it was his loose clearance that fell to Rodri, who passed to Bernardo Silva and the ball was poked on to Antoine Semenyo to score his second goal against Spurs in a matter of weeks.

But Dragusin showed the tenacity forged month after month as he recovered from his cruciate ligament injury and he grew into the game as he found its rhythm. There's a line of thought that the 23-year-old will suit Frank's style and system well when he gets sharper and fitter and there were signs of it in the second half as he marshalled Haaland expertly at times and won header after header.

Also, while he did not have much to do, praise must go to Guglielmo Vicario for a stunning reflex save that was so fast to prevent a Cherki first half shot going inside the left-hand post that none of the officials spotted it and a goal kick was given.

Also credit to Pape Matar Sarr's backside. The Senegal midfielder made a great tackle by throwing his posterior at the ball while sat in the middle of a second half scramble in the Spurs box, his leg then sending a Haaland close range effort up and over the crossbar.

All of Frank's substitutions were positive and played their part in taking the game to City, Sarr key in the midfield, Odobert continuing to grow in confidence with the ball at his feet, Tel constantly flying forward and 17-year-old Byfield again not looking out of place.

The teenager replaced Solanke, who scared everyone after limping around before coming off having rolled his ankle but the striker made it clear to everyone afterwards that he was fine.

"He struggled to run fitness-wise. We knew before the game again it would be a big push to play 90. He's not there fitness-wise where he should be, because he's been out for so long. And we've been, in a way, a little bit forced to play him," Frank told football.london.

"And I think it's pretty evident that he's relatively important for us! Four goals in four games, with him being on his 70-80% of fitness and top sharpness. But imagine City playing without Haaland for six months. So I think we've been quite hard-hit with injuries, but Dom was excellent."

According to OPTA, it was the first time City have failed to win a match they had led by two or more goals at half time since April 2018 against Manchester United, winning all of the 115 games in between.

So upset were the City analysts, sat at the back of the press box, that one or two of them repeatedly and furiously smashed their hands down against their desk throughout the final minutes of the encounter.

Frank on the other hand was delighted. It's four games unbeaten for Spurs now and the 52-year-old may well point out that they have only lost three of their past 10 matches.

There will rightly be gripes about the level of some of those opposition teams that should have been beaten but this was a big Premier League performance against a top side just when the Spurs head coach needed it to back up the midweek Champions League success.

"I'm extremely happy that we finally got a point out of a big second half, and it felt like a big point because we're playing against the best team in the Premier League in the last seven years, eight years. They're playing to compete for the title," he said.

"And I said it before, this team's ability to respond to setbacks and show resilience, I think we are growing it bit by bit. Now it's game 11 since Nottingham Forest, where I think we are showing more consistency. We are more competitive. It's just going in the right direction.

"Not all the results have gone with us. There have been some good, top performances and mentality against Bournemouth, West Ham and Villa. But we just didn't get at least a point or something out of it.

"So now we get the point as well. On top of a good performance against Dortmund. More good than bad against Burnley. I know it looks bad because we only get a point, but a game we could and should easily have won with the chances we created. And a big performance against Frankfurt.

"So now we are building some of that and we are, by the way, building it with players dropping left, right and centre to injury. So we're ending a game without three normal centre-backs, two normal full-backs.

"We play Archie and Joao in the back four. Dragusin played his first game in 12 months and Jun'ai is coming on as the right midfielder. I think that shows everything about the team and what they are building. Very proud of the players."

Teams are often forged in adversity and Spurs would go on to win their first trophy last season in 17 years after coming through similar circumstances during the same winter months.

Frank needs help though and this final day of the winter transfer window is a huge test for Tottenham's recruitment team amid criticism from the fanbase and every contact Johan Lange and the departing Fabio Paratici have in their phones will need to be used.

The attack will likely be the main area of focus for Frank, other than a late check on Andy Robertson's status.

As Frank has done with the likes of Kolo Muani, Tel and Dragusin, so Slot has said he does not have the squad depth to lose Robertson. Much will depend on what Liverpool do in the coming hours.

In defence, on the left Spurs do have Udogie and Souza, on the bench for the first time on Sunday, while the right is the vacant side. However, Djed Spence and Pedro Porro are expected to return from their calf and hamstring injuries respectively in the next few weeks with Archie Gray deputising in the meantime.

At centre-back, Romero and Van de Ven are expected to recover to face Manchester United next weekend. The ill Spurs captain was asked by a Spanish reporter after the game outside the dressing room if he was alright and replied "I'm okay".

Radu Dragusin will have taken a lot from his first 90 minutes in a year. Despite plenty of interest in Serie A, the Romanian would appear likely to remain this window barring any late new arrival. If Frank is to play with three centre-backs for the remainder of this season then he needs every one he has.

New faces would seem odd with Luka Vuskovic starring in Germany, with another top drawer goalscoring performance in the Bundesliga, this time against the mighty Bayern. Spurs would be mad to block the 18-year-old wonderkid's pathway with a new centre-back arrival.

Palhinha has also shown he can fill in at the back and it comes as Kevin Danso limped through the mixed zone after Sunday's draw. The Austria international hyperextended his big toe against Frankfurt and a ligament snapped as he landed on the foot of an opponent.

Danso is set to see a consultant next week, but Frank said "it's in a big toe, so hopefully not too worrying".

football.london bumped into Jan Vertonghen in the corridors of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he returned to watch the game and how Spurs could do with a calm head like the Belgian's in his prime to step into their defence.

After the game and Solanke's goal, the retired centre-back posted on social media: "Third time I witnessed Puskas winner now…"

In central midfield at Tottenham there are plenty of bodies, barring further injuries, but attacking midfielders and wingers are needed. A striker would be helpful as well but with Solanke, Kolo Muani and Tel in situ with Richarlison due back before the north London derby this month, one may have to depart first.

"We are active, no doubt about that. If something happens, let’s see," said Frank about Tottenham's deadline day plans. "[Romero] I hope is minor nothing. Micky we hope is back for Man United and Djed is hopefully not too long."

That leaves the attack and Frank has repeatedly admitted his bench is not full enough with options to create and get goals. Just a couple more absences would see that bench packed with academy youngsters rather than ready-made players to impact a game.

That City could bring on Phil Foden, Tijjani Reijnders and Omar Marmoush, who Spurs have been linked with, during the game said plenty about the ready-made nature of their squad compared to the hosts'.

Tottenham have looked at players such as the injured Savinho, Marmoush and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche. The latter, who scored against Rennes on Saturday, was seen as a potential alternative to Xavi in the summer but would surely make sense as a presence down the right in Mohammed Kudus' absence and replace Brennan Johnson.

The France international, who has just over two years left on his contract, is seen as a good professional behind the scenes and would fit perfectly into the right-sided number 10 role in Frank's newly-installed 3-4-3 formation.

football.london reported earlier this month that Monaco were preparing for Akliouche's potential departure either this month or in the summer by looking for replacements. The Ligue 1 club are still in the Champions League though and may want to keep the talented 23-year-old for the play-offs. The final day of the window is also not the ideal day to lose a star player.

The club will be wary of having a huge squad when all the long-term injury absentees in April and May and a temporary loan move helps that situation, albeit not with those messy Champions League squad places with only three changes able to be made.

Tottenham must act and they must pull something out of the bag in dramatic style otherwise questions will only grow about the ambition and planning behind a window in which they sold last season's top scorer and spent the money on a central midfielder, then signed a 19-year-old left-back for £13million, all the while suffering injuries throughout the squad.
