Tottenham Hotspur suffered a narrow 2-1 loss at the hands of West Ham on Saturday afternoon, as fan patience in Thomas Frank grows thinner and thinner by the week following a disastrous run of form

Thomas Frank has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are "closer" to turning things around in the aftermath of a humiliating 2-1 loss to West Ham on Saturday.

Pressure is mounting on the Danish head coach, given Spurs have managed just two wins from their last 10 Premier League matches - with 31 losses in their last 60 league games. As things stand, the Lilywhites sit 14th in the standings, with a tally of seven wins, six draws and nine losses to show for their efforts this term.

Tension was especially high at full-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with a struggling West Ham securing just their fourth win of the season over the hosts.

Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring a third of the way through the first-half to ensure the Hammers headed into the break with the lead. While Cristian Romero levelled matters midway through the second period of play, his efforts were nulled in stoppage time, when Callum Wilson secured the winner for the visitors.

Despite his shortcomings, Frank remains positive that he is close to turning things around with the club he was appointed at over the summer. He said: "If we're winning it [the reaction of the fans] will change, and we will. I still think we are closer [to turning things around] than further away."

During the encounter, Spurs fans were also heard singing: 'You're getting sacked in the morning,' at their head coach, while others left the ground early as a result of a painful watch.

Speaking about fan reaction, Frank added: "Of course, I've probably had better times, it's probably not the best time of course. But I understand, I'm the man in charge. So the blame will go to me.

"That's fair, no problem in that sense. As long as they are backing the players, doing everything they can, to support them and drive them forward, that's what we do, and we will keep going forward."

On the result, meanwhile Frank explained that he thought Spurs could have "easily" stole all three points from the Hammers. He said: "I think you all saw the game today, we could easily have won this one 2-1.

"I think it's no excuses. But also the reason we're a little bit down to the bare bones with players. And we also need some of the offensive players to score a goal or two.

"All that is difficult for me to do like that and click with a finger. But I can promise that I'm sitting here, giving everything, every single day. I feel the trust from everyone and there's only one way, we need to keep going."

Cristian Romero has described Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 defeat to West Ham as a 'disaster'. The Spurs captain was at the heart of the action on Saturday afternoon as Callum Wilson fired the Hammers to victory.

Crysencio Summerville put West Ham ahead after a quarter of an hour. Romero, who accidentally deflected the West Ham forward's strike past Guglielmo Vicario, redeemed himself in the second half.

The Argentina international pulled back an equaliser shortly after the hour mark, latching onto a great cross from Pedro Porro to head the ball past Alphonse Areola. Despite Romero's best efforts, Tottenham couldn't find a winner.

In the dying embers of added time, Wilson snatched three points for West Ham, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the six-yard box. Upon the full-time whistle, there was a chorus of boos.

Tottenham supporters in the south stand singled out Thomas Frank and called for him to be sacked. They chanted: "You're getting sacked in the morning..."

Speaking to reporters after the game, Romero thanked the fans for their support. The Argentine said: "In this moment we need to stay together, work hard, come back tomorrow to the training ground. It's a disaster in this moment for us.

"Thank you to the fans for always staying with us. Tomorrow, we will train in silence, work hard again, midweek we have another big match. At this moment this is a disaster for us.

"We played sometimes good, sometimes bad. We must work hard and go again. It's a difficult moment for us. We are not the best on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Frank accepted the blame and urged the fans to remain behind the players. When quizzed on the chants, the Tottenham boss said: "Of course, I've probably had better times, it's probably not the best time of course.

"But I understand, I'm the man in charge. So the blame will go to me. That's fair, no problem in that sense. As long as they are backing the players, doing everything they can, to support them and drive them forward, that's what we do, and we will keep going forward."

On his players' efforts, Frank said: "Yeah, but I always, we say that they play for the head coach or me. I hope the players are playing for the club, the team, each other, the fans, me, the staff, ownership, everything. They play for their families. That's what I hope.

"But I also know, and that I know very well, if you are building a good culture and someone who can get through tough times, you need to see the team running, and especially in tough times.

"I see a team that is running in tough times. I also see a team that's doing everything they can to turn this around. I also think you can see that in quite a bit of the performances, even when it's very tough."

If you're not winning enough, we know you will not get enough support from the fans. But when we're winning, it will change, when we start winning again. Which we will do. I'm not in doubt of that. I think also you can look a little bit at the performances.

Let's say the Bournemouth and the Villa and this game here, if the players stop running, or stop doing anything, or not working hard, and we are not the team that's closest to winning, then you can say OK. But I think the team is working very hard. And I still think, and I know it sounds a little bit crazy, that we are close to something very good, than further away.

I think you all saw the game today, we could easily have won this one 2-1. I think it's no excuses. But also the reason we're a little bit down to the bare bones with players. And we also need some of the offensive players to score a goal or two. All that is difficult for me to do like that and click with a finger. But I can promise that I'm sitting here, giving everything, every single day. I feel the trust from everyone and there's only one way, we need to keep going.

I think you could see signs of it. That has really looked right. But of course, we can only talk about it here, but Kolo looked sharper, Xavi got in some top positions, Mathys as well, Wilson as well. It's good to have Dom on the pitch. But I also think it's a sign that the goal is scored by Cuti, our captain and centre-back.

And we didn't have enough chances, or the cutting edge from the offensive players on the day. And that of course is no criticism, it's just reality. We didn't have the cutting edge, the perfect weighted pass, the sharp finish. And that we need to keep working on. And keep going.

Yeah, but I always, we say that they play for the head coach or me. I hope the players are playing for the club, the team, each other, the fans, me, the staff, ownership, everything. They play for their families. That's what I hope.

But I also know, and that I know very well, if you are building a good culture and someone who can get through tough times, you need to see the team running, and especially in tough times. I see a team that is running in tough times. I also see a team that's doing everything they can to turn this around. I also think you can see that in quite a bit of the performances, even when it's very tough.

Two things, first good to see Bissouma back. He has been injured for a long time and then he was in the Africa Cup of Nations and came on the pitch and did well. Two, yes I have seen the letter and I took six to eight positive things out of the letter. Not apparently the negative thing. What I take out of that letter is that a club and an executive team with Vinai on top that are aligned and know this is a big transitional phase.

It’s a super-tanker we’re turning in the right direction and there are a lot of good signs behind the scenes and also in some of the performances, but of course when you lose last-minute to one of your rivals, it is very emotional football and there will be noise. That noise we need to keep out there (away) and get head down and keep walking, keep doing the right thing.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings after their defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon

Tottenham fell to a 2-1 loss to West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday and here are our Spurs player ratings after the London derby defeat.

Thomas Frank made three changes to his team from the FA Cup exit to Aston Villa with new signing Conor Gallagher, fresh from his £34.7million move from Atletico Madrid, straight into the ling-up. Joao Palhinha missed out no the matchday squad with Archie Gray partnering Gallagher in the centre of the pitch.

Randal Kolo Muani replaced the injured Richarlison while Cristian Romero was back from suspension in the centre of defence in place of Kevin Danso.

A bad 10 seconds defined the first half just 15 minutes in. First Ben Davies suffered what looked like a bad injury to his left leg, immediately signalling to the bench, and then Cyrsencio Summerville cut inside Pedro Porro and Gallagher and hit a shot that deflected in off Micky van de Ven.

Spurs found a leveller when Cristian Romero headed home Pedro Porro's cross but they did not do enough to find the win and it was the visitors who grabbed it instead when substitute Callum Wilson scrambled home the ball in added time for West Ham's first win in 11 Premier League games as the Tottenham fans in the south stand sang 'you're getting sacked in the morning' to Frank.

Here are our Spurs player ratings:

Guglielmo Vicario

Couldn't do much about Summerville's deflected effort. Made a great save to stop Soucek's chested effort after the half-hour mark and another full length one to push out Mavropanos' header. Claimed he was held during the corner that Wilson scored from but he just looked weak. That completely undid what had otherwise been a performance with a couple of big saves. 5

Pedro Porro

Too easily beaten by Summerville for the goal and the winger caused him plenty of problems. The Spaniard did curl in a delicious cross for Romero to head home and made a big late block to deny Wilson only for the same player to score from the ensuing corner which knocked his score up. 6

Cristian Romero

Picked up his eighth yellow card of the season but made up for that with a powerful header to equalise in the second half. 7

Micky van de Ven

Unfortunately deflection for Summersville's goal which he would not have seen. Made a huge last-gasp block to deny Summerville not too long before Romero's leveller. Looked gutted at the final whistle. 7

Ben Davies

Lasted just 15 minutes before suffering what looked a bad left leg injury. N/A

Conor Gallagher

Involved in a clash of heads just 15 seconds in but shook it off. Brought some energy to proceedings but his involvement in Summerville's goal was poor. Gave everything in the second half to no avail. 6

Archie Gray

Put in some big challenges and embarked on a few strong runs. Picked up a yellow card and a knock in the first half which meant he did not return after the break. 6

Wilson Odobert

Had a header (shoulder) saved by Areola from close range. Did very little else and should have come off instead of Tel. 4

Xavi Simons

Manages to look threatening one moment and then struggle to beat a man in the next. Needs to grab games by the scruff of the neck but doesn't. 5

Mathys Tel

Looked dangerous down the left and put in the cross that led to Odobert's saved header and sent an effort himself just past the right-hand post in the first half. Continued to be the best of Spurs' poor front line only to find himself taken off for Solanke much to his disappointment and the crowd's. 6

Randal Kolo Muani

You could have forgotten he was playing at times. He produces the odd good moment and then slides into the background again. Doesn't throw himself at the ball like a striker should. 3

Subs

Djed Spence

Got shouted at by Frank after Davies went down injured as he was not ready to come on. Had a chance soon after entering the fray with Areola saving his follow-up from Odobert's header. Didn't offer much going forward otherwise. 5

Yves Bissouma

Turned back the clock with an energetic display after coming on at the break for his first minutes of the season. Made some good interceptions and sent some shots at goal. Did make a mess of his jump to leave Wilson free in the box for the shot that led to the late corner West Ham scored from. Overall though, with so little game time this season, it was a surprise how good he looked. 7

Dominic Solanke

Got around half an hour but didn't see much of the ball. 5

Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham Hotspur fans have called for Thomas Frank to be sacked following Saturday afternoon's 2-1 defeat to West Ham. Callum Wilson snatched three crucial points for the Hammers in the dying embers of stoppage time, bundling the ball into the net.

Crysencio Summerville broke the deadlock inside the opening quarter of an hour, beating Guglielmo Vicario with a deflected strike. Cristian Romero, who diverted the West Ham winger's effort past the Spurs goalkeeper, redeemed himself in the second-half.

The Tottenham captain levelled proceedings shortly after the hour mark, smashing the ball past Alphonse Areola with an incredible header. Dominic Solanke grabbed the ball out of the net, and Romero looked set to inspire a late comeback.

Then, with just seconds to spare, Wilson put the Hammers ahead. A few moments later, Jarred Gillett blew the final whistle and home supporters in the south stand quickly singled out the Spurs boss, who's been under immense pressure.

Ben Davies was forced to come off during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur's clash against West Ham. The 32-year-old defender appeared to suffer an injury to his left leg following a collision with Jarrod Bowen.

Davies was taken off the field on a stretcher, and he was replaced by Djed Spence. As it stands, the severity of the issue remains to be seen, and Thomas Frank will be expected to provide an update after the game.

The Wales international, whose contract at Hotspur Way expires at the end of the season, has only recently returned to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Nine players Tottenham could sign this month as Thomas Frank eyes January transfer spree

Tottenham Hotspur have already welcomed one new face to the club this month as Thomas Frank looks to turn things around

Thomas Frank is in a race against time to further bolster his Tottenham Hotspur squad. The Lilywhites have already welcomed a new face to Hotspur Way this month, signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth nearly £35m, but there's still room for improvement.

Unless Spurs win the UEFA Champions League, they face an uphill battle in the race for qualification to Europe's top-flight competition. The Dane's side fell well behind the pack over the festive period, dropping crucial points at home and away.

Tottenham have, however, been plagued by injuries, hence the arrival of Gallagher. Frank will be determined to turn things around and save his job, but he could do with a helping hand from the board.

A few exciting players have been linked with moves to north London, but there's only a couple of weeks or so left of the January transfer window – so they better get a move on. With help from BOYLE Sports, football.london has looked at nine players that Spurs could sign before February 3.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 5/1

Strand Larsen has featured 23 times across all competitions for Wolves this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists. The 25-year-old striker, whose contract at Molinuex expires in June 2030, hasn't yet reached the heights he enjoyed last term.

FOLLOW OUR TOTTENHAM FB PAGE! Latest Spurs news, analysis and much more via our dedicated Facebook page

Strand Larsen had a superb end to the 2024/25 campaign, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in his final nine Premier League games. The Norway international saved Wolves from relegation and attracted the interest of some top clubs.

Omar Marmoush – 13/2

Marmoush has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City, which has – naturally – cast doubt over his future. He, who only joined Pep Guardiola's side from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £59m last year, has played less than 400 minutes this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

The 26-year-old forward did, in fairness, suffer a knee injury at the start of the campaign and then go to the Africa Cup of Nations over the festive period, so Guardiola may well have a plan for him.

James Trafford – 8/1

Trafford was swept aside as soon as Manchester City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has featured sparingly, feeding off minutes in the Carabao Cup.

Rodrygo – 10/1

Rodrygo was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, but a deal never materialised. Xabi Alonso, who has since been sacked by Real Madrid, convinced the 25-year-old winger to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, only to continue playing second fiddle to Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

Kobbie Mainoo – 12/1

Kobbie Mainoo looked destined to leave Old Trafford in January until Ruben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United. The 20-year-old midfielder has recently entered the final 18 months of his contract, so an element of uncertainty about his future remains.

Ruben Neves – 14/1

Neves only has six months left on his contract at Al-Hilal, making him an attractive option for lots of top clubs in Europe. If the former Wolves midfielder doesn't put pen to paper on an extension, the Saudi Pro League outfit will be forced to make a difficult decision.

Al Hilal will have to consider whether they'd rather risk losing Neves for free in the summer or cut their losses and cash in before the transfer window shuts. The 28-year-old has largely featured as a six, but he's also filled in at centre-half at times.

Harry Kane – 14/1

Kane has been linked with a return to Tottenham as soon as he left! The 32-year-old striker only has 18 months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, and Bayern Munich will face the difficult task of fending off interest until he signs an extension.

Marc Guehi – 25/1

Guehi looks set to join Manchester City this month, but he's still been regarded as an outsider by BOYLE Sports. Tottenham have already managed to beat Aston Villa to the signature of Gallagher, so perhaps Frank hijacks another deal before the January transfer window slams shut.

Adam Wharton – 33/1

Wharton has established himself as a key player in Oliver Glasner's side, starting all but two of Crystal Palace's matches in the Premier League this season. With the Eagles boss set to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the campaign, the 21-year-old midfielder seems to face a somewhat uncertain future in south London.

Here is the Tottenham team that Thomas Frank has selected to face West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday

Thomas Frank has made three changes to his Tottenham Hotspur team to face West Ham in Saturday's Premier League London derby.

Both clubs need the points and Frank has a new player to call upon in Conor Gallagher after his £34.7million move from Atletico Madrid and the 25-year-old comes straight into the starting XI. Gallagher's arrival is well timed after Spurs lost Rodrigo Bentancur for three months following hamstring surgery.

Joao Palhinha could not be seen in training footage from recent days and the Portuguese is not in the squad with Archie Gray partnering Gallagher. Lucas Bergvall has been back in training after returning from injury so should also feature during the encounter.

The team's attack pretty much picks itself because of injuries, with all four front men who played in the second half of the defeat to Aston Villa starting with Dominic Solanke aiming a bigger role off the bench this time as he gets his fitness back.

Ben Davies starts on the left of the defence with Cristian Romero back from suspension in the centre of defence. Yves Bissouma is on the bench for Tottenham hoping for his first minutes of the season.

Here's the team Frank has selected to face the Hammers:

The Tottenham supremo has penned a thorough and detailed address to the club's fanbase ahead of the Premier League game against West Ham

Tottenham's chief executive officer Vinai Venkatesham has addressed the club's disgruntled supporters in a lengthy and detailed letter in the matchday programme ahead of the Premier League game against West Ham.

Spurs go into their latest derby in 14th place in the table and midway through a season that saw them crash out of both domestic cups under head coach Thomas Frank, while undergoing yet another campaign ravaged by long-term injuries to key players. The supporters have been vocal in their disappointment at the club's struggles with just two wins from their past 13 matches.

Fans have booed Frank and the team after matches and sung chants during them such as 'Boring, boring Tottenham Hotspur' and 'Sideways and backwards, everywhere we go' in reference to the football being played under the Dane.

This week had brought the positive news of the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid in a £34.7million deal but a protest, organised by Change for Tottenham, is set to go ahead before the West Ham match on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate anger at another disappointing campaign despite major changes at the club.

Now the supporter group has released images of Venkatesham's address to the supporters, which contains a number of promises and details the way forward. The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust met with the club to push for more open dialogue and this statement appears to be the result of that.

Here is the Tottenham CEO's letter to the fans in full:

Dear supporters,

As we reach the halfway point of our season, I wanted to share an update on our plans for the future. The joint ambition of our executive team, board and the Lewis Family is clear: to see our men's team competing regularly in the Champions League and for major trophies, while significantly raising the competitive level of our women's team.

Our focus is sporting success, and in that we share the same ambition as our supporters. We know that words carry little weight without action, which is why recent months have been spent undertaking a thorough review of our operations. Opportunities for a genuine reset are rare in clubs of our size and we have been determined not to waste this moment as we make the changes needed behind the scenes to compete consistently at the highest level.

Football has changed significantly in recent years and, while the club has evolved and achieved incredible things, we recognise that in some key areas we have not always kept pace. We all feel the gap between where we are and where we want to be and, while we know progress takes time, we share your impatience to close it. Our supporters want wins and performances to be proud of and we know the men’s first team has fallen short of where we want to be so far this season. Significant work is underway and I wanted to set out the key areas of focus.

PLAYER TRADING

We believe in our current squad, but must add more quality, experience and leadership to compete consistently at the highest level. Doing so requires a more proactive approach to recruitment, alongside a wage structure that supports our ambition.

We are fully focused on strengthening the squad in January where the right opportunities exist, while recognising that the most significant player trading activity typically comes in summer windows. Our priority is to make signings that genuinely move us forward and we will be disciplined against that aim.

Player trading is also about knowing when to sell and being decisive about moving players on who are not part of our future. Doing so is essential to maximising value and managing our financial fair play obligations. Despite common belief, we are not immune to these rules and must carefully manage our squad development plans against them.

This focus is reflected in the appointment of Rafi Moersen from City Football Group as Director of Football Operations. When he joins later this year, reporting into our Sporting Director, Johan Lange, he will play a central role in shaping and executing our player transactions and supporting the wider football operation.

ACADEMY

A productive academy is vital to our future. It provides first-team players without transfer fees and enables investment elsewhere in the squad. Crucially, it also develops players who grow up as supporters and truly understand what it means to pull on a Spurs shirt.

While there has been good progress in recruitment and coaching in recent years, we must deliver greater first team minutes and transfer returns from our academy. We have therefore committed additional investment to strengthen the academy pipeline of players and to support the systems needed for it to flourish.

PLAYER SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT

Whilst coaching is of course critical. and we have strengthened Thomas Frank's coaching staff with the appointment of John Heitinga, maximising performance is about more than coaching alone. We must be world class in performance services, including medical care, sports science, nutrition and psychology, to ensure players are available and primed to compete at the highest level.

We have made several changes in this area. most notably the appointment of Dan Lewindon as Performance Director, who joins us next month from City Football Group.

SUPPORTERS

Perhaps most importantly, we know there is distance between the club and our supporters and we are committed to rebuilding that connection. With your input, we have introduced initiatives such as the new Sonny mural, ticketing changes and a trial singing section and we will continue to work closely with the Fan Advisory Board.

Making matches more accessible for younger fans is a priority and we will be reviewing concession policies for junior supporters and young adults ahead of next season. We want Tottenham Hotspur to be a club that feels open, welcoming and connected to the communities it represents.

To strengthen engagement. we appointed Kate Miller as Chief Communications Officer in November and Adam Gardiner as Chief Marketing Officer this month. Along with Rafi, they form part of a newly-established Executive Team under my leadership, reflecting a more modern and collaborative structure.

I want to be clear that our ambition extends beyond the men's team. We are committed to raising the competitive level of our women’s team and have invested significantly during the January transfer window, with early signs of progress already evident this season. Growing the support and following for Spurs Women is a key focus for us going forward.

l appreciate this has been a lengthy update, but I wanted to be open about where we want to be and how we are working to get there. Tottenham Hotspur cannot exist without you, our supporters. We are built on the loyalty, passion and commitment of those who follow us, and we do not underestimate what supporting our club means.

Your dedication matters deeply. Thank you for your ongoing support. We are determined to deliver a future that reflects it.

Best wishes, Vinai
