To put it lightly, it's been a tumultuous few months or so for Tottenham Hotspur.

For example, Ange Postecoglou led the club to their first trophy in 17 years, only to be replaced by Thomas Frank a couple of weeks later.

The former Brentford manager will have his work cut out to try and get the club back towards the top of the Premier League next season, but Daniel Levy and Co can give him a helping hand by bringing in some major talent this summer.

Fortunately, that seems to be the plan, as reports have now linked Spurs with a forward who has won comparisons to the sensational Alexander Isak.

Even though Spurs' defence was a bigger problem this season, their attack wasn't exactly fluid either, with six teams scoring more than them in the Premier League.

So, it's not been much of a surprise to see the club linked with a host of frontline talent in recent weeks, like Bryan Mbeumo and Bradley Barcola.

However, with the former looking more and more likely to join Manchester United and the latter supposedly worth at least £101m, the Lilywhites might need to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

Fortunately, another name has now entered the mix, someone with experience in the Premier League: Diogo Jota.

Yes, according to a recent report from journalist Matt Thielen, Spurs are one of several sides interested in the Liverpool star.

In fact, the reporter claims that the North Londoners have already made contact with the player over a potential move.

However, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and other teams outside the country have also made contact, and per reports from late April, Liverpool would want up to €55m for the player, which is about £47m.

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Jota's ability and experience, it is one worth fighting for, especially as he's won comparisons to Isak.

How Jota compares to Isak

Okay, so before we look at some of the other reasons why Spurs might want to go out and sign Jota this summer, we need to examine this comparison to Isak and where it has come from.

In this instance, it stems from FBref, which looks at players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League, before creating a list of the then most comparable players for each one.

In this case, it was concluded that the Newcastle star has been the eighth most similar forward to the Liverpool star across the last 35 days.

The best way to see how this is worked out is by taking a look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including but not limited to non-penalty expected goals plus assists, expected assists, clearances, blocks, progressive carries and more, all per 90.

However, while being compared to arguably the most sought-after and exciting striker in football today is certainly encouraging and an indication of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers star's quality, it's not the sole reason the Lilywhites should sign him.

In fact, the main reason that Levy and Co should be after him is his consistent output over the last few seasons.

For example, since the start of the 21/22 campaign, the 28-year-old "monster," as dubbed by Liverpool blogger Si Steers, has scored 52 goals and provided 25 assists in 152 appearances, totalling 8,512 minutes.

That means the Porto-born dynamo has averaged a goal involvement every 1.97 games, or even more impressively, every 110.54 minutes, and that is the sort of output Frank could do with him in North London next season.

Ultimately, not only is Jota statistically similar to one of the best strikers in the world, but also someone with an excellent rate of output himself, and therefore, Spurs should do all they can to sign him this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to back new manager Thomas Frank in the summer transfer market, as the Lilywhites scour for more new forward options after sealing a £30 million permanent deal for Mathys Tel.

Tel showcased flashes of his ability during his initial loan, which has now been made permanent for £15 million less than the originally agreed £45 million buy-option with Bayern Munich, and Frank has expressed his serious excitement over this move by chairman Daniel Levy.

"Very, very excited about Mathys signing with a permanent deal," said Frank.

"I think he's a very talented player that can play across the front four positions. He's a goalscorer that we can develop even further to be more consistent in his all-round game but also to more consistently land in the right positions in the box. So I'm looking forward to it."

The Frenchman will help to replace Timo Werner, who's returned to parent club RB Leipzig after a lacklustre one-and-a-half-year temporary stint in N17, but Spurs may soon find themselves needing another wide player.

Son Heung-min's exit from Tottenham is seen as a real possibility this summer, with the 32-year-old about to enter the final 12 months of his contract. Levy just has this window to make any significant cash back off his sale, and he's apparently placed a £50 million price tag on his head, according to reports in Asia.

Frank's need for a potential Son replacement has prompted links to a few intriguing targets this week, including Man City's Jack Grealish, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, West Ham's Mohammed Kudus and Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

The latter bagged 20 goals in all competitions under Frank last season, and Tottenham are believed to have held initial talks over signing Mbeumo, even if Man United have been tipped as his preferred destination (Sky Sports).

Fabrizio Romano also claims that Tottenham began internal conversations over a move for the Cameroonian as soon as Frank signed his Spurs contract, so he appears to be a serious option if United cannot meet Brentford's valuation.

Good chance that Bryan Mbeumo chooses to join Tottenham

According to journalist Duncan Castles on The Transfers Podcast this week, there is a "good chance" that Mbeumo chooses to join Tottenham, contrary to reports of his United preference, but Levy needs to meet his £70 million asking price.

“The indication from Manchester United was Mbeumo had chosen to move there and verbally told them that his preference was to move there,” Castles said.

“But I'm not hearing exactly the same on that. I think there is a good chance that Mbeumo, should Tottenham get to the price that Brentford are asking, that he might choose Spurs ahead of Manchester United.

“There are a couple of obvious reasons for that. One is that it allows him to stay in London, and secondly, it allows him to carry on playing for Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou.”

The versatile African would be a quality heir to Son on the right-hand side, and he's adept at playing as a centre-forward too, meaning both Mbeumo and new signing Tel could help to ease the goalscoring burden on club-record signing Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for another proven winger to complement Thomas Frank's current squad, following Timo Werner's return to parent club RB Leipzig and reports that Son Heung-min may have played his last competitive game for Spurs.

Despite a fairly promising first six months in north London, Werner ultimately proved to be a flop after chairman Daniel Levy decided to extend his loan spell by a further season, with former boss Ange Postecoglou publicly criticising the German for lacklustre displays.

"He wasn't playing anywhere near the level he should," said Postecoglou after Spurs' draw with Rangers in the Europa League.

"When you've got 18-year-olds [playing], it's not acceptable to me and I said that to Timo. He's a senior German international.

"The moment we're in right now, it's not like we've got many options. I need everyone to at least be going out there trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first half wasn't acceptable."

With the ex-Chelsea forward ending his brief Spurs stay, Frank could be left even more short in the wide area if Son does leave N17 after 10 years.

Saudi sides are expressing a keen interest in the South Korean star, and the Lilywhites may well decide that now is the right time to cash-in on him, taking into account his age and the fact he's about to enter the final 12 months of his deal.

Spurs did seal a permanent deal for Mathys Tel, who put pen to paper on a £30 million move from Bayern Munich, but the club cannot afford to leave their new manager short of attacking options given their status as a Champions League club next term.

They've been linked with a host of big-name forwards in the last week, including Man City's Jack Grealish, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and Frank's former star at Brentford, Bryan Mbeumo.

All of these players are likely to command a marquee price tag, alongside fellow reported target Mohammed Kudus.

The West Ham winger has an £85 million release clause in his contract, which becomes active in July, but Graham Potter's side could sell for around £65 million.

That is according to GOAL, who also report that Tottenham have "initiated" talks with West Ham over signing Kudus.

Frank's side have apparently told the Hammers that they're keen on striking a deal for the Ghanaian, but both clubs haven't dealt with eachother when it comes to transfers since Scott Parker's move to Spurs in 2011.

Both clubs most commonly refuse to do business, and for this reason, it is believed that West Ham would much rather Kudus join Chelsea instead, who are also keen on the African winger.

There is also some negotiating left to do, as Daniel Levy only wants to pay £50 million for Kudus as things stand, so they're some way short of West Ham's current asking price.

Only Man City's Jeremy Doku completed more successful take-ons per 90 in the Premier League than Kudus last season, highlighting his devastating dribbling ability, with the former Ajax star also attempting more shots at goal than Dominic Solanke on average (WhoScored).

He would be a truly excellent addition, but Levy will still need to invest significantly here.

Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for Tottenham Hotspur throughout 2024/25, with the club posting one of the best tallies in the division over the course of 38 games.

The Lilywhites registered 64 goals in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou, a record that was only bettered by six other sides in the division - three of which occupied a place in the top five.

However, despite such a record, it appears as though the club are plotting moves for numerous reinforcements in such a department, with new boss Thomas Frank wanting added options at his disposal.

The Dane took the reins after the Aussie was dismissed by owner Daniel Levy, having a huge job in his hands to lead the side back up the Premier League in 2025/26.

It’s evident that he will have money at his disposal to spend on players he sees fit, but it’s crucial that the right additions are made to avoid a repeat of the recent campaign.

In their attempts to land a new attacker this window, OGC Nice talisman Evann Guessand has emerged as an option for Spurs, after making contact with the Ligue 1 outfit over a potential deal.

He’s not alone in that aspect, with talks also being held over a deal which would see Brentford striker Yoane Wissa follow his former boss across the capital this summer.

However, despite the aforementioned stars, RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons has again emerged as a target, according to Ben Jacobs’ update with TBR Football.

He claims that the Lilywhites hierarchy have made an enquiry to land the Dutch international, who registered 10 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga this season.

The report also states that Levy and Co have asked about how much a deal for the 22-year-old would cost this window after his impressive form in recent years.

Why Simons would be a better signing than Eze for Spurs

At this point, it feels as though there hasn’t been a window in recent history in which Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze hasn’t been linked with a move to join Spurs.

This summer appears no different with rumours already emerging linking the England international with a move across the capital to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

However, this time around, the competition for the 26-year-old’s signature is likely to be higher given his success with the Eagles, which saw him net the winner in the FA Cup final.

It’s been reported that he does currently have a £68m release clause in his current contract at Selhurst Park, but it remains to be seen if Oliver Glasner’s side would be willing to negotiate a cheaper deal.

Regardless of any interest in Eze during the off-season, the board should look past a move for his signature, subsequently pursuing a move for Simons instead.

When comparing the pair’s respective stats from the recent season, the Leipzig talent has registered more goals, highlighting the threat he can add to Spurs should he move to North London.

Simons, who’s been labelled “one of the best youngsters in Europe” by Alex Barker at The Athletic, has also completed more of the passes he’s attempted, and posted more progressive passes per 90 - handing other attackers at the club the chance to bolster their own tallies.

The youngster’s also starred with his ball-carrying, registering nearly two times more carries into the final third per 90, showcasing his desire to get forward at any given moment.

Given the difference between the aforementioned duo this campaign, it’s evident that Simons would be a better signing for Frank in the coming months in his attempts for sure success.

Should he carry over his skillset to England, it would be a sensational addition that would allow the club to have a leading European star in their side for many years to come.

They claim that the Lilywhites have made contact with the Ligue 1 outfit over a potential move for the 23-year-old forward, who netted 13 goals across all competitions this campaign.

It also states that the Ivorian international is keen on a move to England this window, with Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Brighton all pursuing a move for his signature.

As a result of Frank’s appointment, striker Wissa hasn’t been the only talent touted with a move to follow his former boss, with winger Bryan Mbeumo another Bees star on Spurs’ radar.

He can operate off either flank, as a central striker or even slightly deeper in a number ten role, offering Frank a viable option in numerous areas - something which Mbeumo would be unable to provide.

He’s also managed to outperform the Brentford star in numerous key areas for an attacker, whilst likely to cost a hefty whack less in the process, subsequently making him a better addition.

Guessand, who’s been labelled “one of the best young attackers” by one writer at The Athletic, may have registered fewer goals this campaign, but has matched the Bees star in goals per shots on target, showcasing he has the clinical nature needed in attacking areas.

He’s actually managed to direct more of his efforts on target than Frank’s former star boy, taking advantage of more opportunities that fall his way, demonstrating his ability to find the net when needed.

However, the Nice ace has also managed to complete more passes into the final third and complete more take-ons, having the skillset to offer players around him the chance to better their own goalscoring tallies.

Whilst it’s unclear how much a deal for the 23-year-old would cost this summer, it’s clear that he would be a sensational option for Spurs this summer, likely being a cheaper option than Mbeumo.

Despite Guessand being a cheaper option, it doesn’t take away from the talent he possesses, having the opportunity to play a key role in the club’s revival should he move to North London this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has shared an intriguing Tottenham transfer update, which adds further weight to recent claims that new manager Thomas Frank is set to have a real influence on the club's summer recruitment drive.

Spurs officially appointed the Dane this time last week, putting an end to the search for Ange Postecoglou's replacement in swift fashion, and reports suggest that Frank is already making his transfer wishes clear to chairman Daniel Levy.

In a recent interview with the club's media channels, Levy explained what made Frank the standout candidate, and they've already backed him with the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for around £30 million.

"Whenever you have a new coach it's always a fresh start. You always have different ideas. But we want to build on the success of winning a trophy last season," said Levy.

"One of the things that stood out to me with Thomas is that he's clearly highly intelligent. Great communicator. Super human being. Plus all the other technical aspects that are obviously important."

One thing Frank didn't speak about in his sit-down was the club's pursuit of his ex-star at Brentford - winger Bryan Mbeumo.

Spurs opened initial talks over signing Mbeumo recently (Sky Sports), but face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Man United, who are thought to be in pole position as things stand due to the Cameroonian's desire to join Ruben Amorim.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano has now revealed that Tottenham began internal talks over a deal for Mbeumo right after Frank signed his contract to become their new manager.

"For sure, there is appreciation from Thomas Frank," said Romano.

"And so it's quite obvious to discuss a target like Mbeumo for Tottenham, because he's one of the names they discussed internally as soon as he [Frank] signed his contract as new Tottenham manager."

However, the respected journalist reiterates that United are indeed the frontrunners after already reaching an agreement with Mbeumo.

"We know with these clubs like Brentford, Brighton is always difficult to negotiate for their top players, so it's not easy to reach an agreement, but United are on that," he continued.

"They are talking to the club, always in contact with player agents, and with an agreement with Bryan Mbeumo, because the player wants to go to United. And so at the moment, United remain frontrunners on this story. Let's see if they can be able to reach an agreement on the fee with Brentford."

Thomas Frank's arrival at Tottenham Hotspur, and how the tactician will perform in his first big job, is set to be one of the most intriguing Premier League stories of next season.

There are many other riveting storylines on the horizon: Man City's rebuild, Newcastle's Champions League campaign, how Nottingham Forest will kick on from being last year's surprise package, the newly-promoted three and Villa's mission to remain among England's elite to name a few of them.

However, Frank's debut campaign in the Spurs dugout stands out among the most enthralling narratives to keep an eye on next term, with the 51-year-old having big shoes to fill after Ange Postecoglou ended their 17-year wait for a major trophy.

It will also be the Dane's first-ever campaign as a Champions League coach, and there is much more expectation on Frank's shoulders than there ever was at Brentford.

The pressure which comes with managing a big six club is far more intense, so it is vital that chairman Daniel Levy backs Frank in the transfer market this summer, as Postecoglou's immediate heir looks to get off to the best possible start.

Even though the ex-Bees boss will need time to build, there will be far less margin for error in north London than at the Gtech Community Stadium with far more eyes on Frank, especially after their historic Europa League triumph in Bilbao.

He is also faced with the possibility of losing some key players in the coming months.

Son Heung-min could well leave Tottenham this summer after 10 faithful years, as the Saudi Pro League look to add yet another big name to their financially-backed division of clubs.

Cashing in on the South Korean could be very tempting for Levy. The 32-year-old is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract and not exactly getting any younger, with there also being an argument that Son's best years are behind him.

Cristian Romero U-turning over Tottenham exit after Frank arrival

Another star player who's been heavily linked with an exit is star £165,000-per-week defender Cristian Romero.

The Argentine World Cup winner played a key role for Spurs on their run to Europa League glory, captaining them in each tie from the quarter-finals onwards. Romero didn't feature much in the Premier League, mainly due to injuries and Postecoglou resting him for their European campaign, but the centre-back is undoubtedly a pivotal player for them.

Micky van de Ven called his central defensive partner a "world-class" asset for the club, but reports from Europe and beyond in the last few months have claimed that Romero wants to leave Tottenham for Atlético Madrid.

Diego Simeone even confirmed Atletico's interest in Romero, but according to a fresh update from TYC Sports, the tactician may have to wait a little longer to secure the 27-year-old's signature.

Indeed, it is now believed that Romero could decide to stay at Tottenham for one more season, with Frank's arrival cited as a key reason behind this potential decision, alongside their place in the Champions League next term.

This would come as a major boost for Frank, who'll be very keen to keep hold of his best players, and Spurs' youthful, inexperienced squad overall could seriously benefit from a leader like Romero in the dressing room.

That being said, if Atletico come calling with an offer too good to resist, it may well get Levy thinking, given Romero is out of contract in 2027.

It is practically indisputable that Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer, and Mikel Arteta's side have now been handed the chance to get one over on arch rivals Tottenham by signing a key target of Thomas Frank's side.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is currently busy attempting to negotiate agreeable terms on a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but find themselves some way off the Bundesliga side's asking price of around £68-85 million, according to Sky Germany's (Florian Plettenberg).

Arsenal negotiations for Sesko have been ongoing since late May, but if a deal cannot be struck for the Slovenia international, Berta does have other reported striker targets on his shortlist.

Arsenal have also worked on a deal for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres, who is currently keen on a move to north London and open to joining other high-profile Premier League suitors like Man United.

"Viktor Gyökeres prefers a move to the Premier League, and would welcome an Arsenal bid," reported Ben Jacobs on X recently.

"Arsenal still deciding between Benjamin Sesko and Gyökeres. Andrea Berta simultaneously advancing both deals. Gyökeres would be open to Manchester United. There has been no formal rejection, but a deal to date has also never been at an advanced stage, despite suggestions.

"United have not made any formal approach to Sporting. Swedish striker one of several striker options discussed. Gyökeres believes he'll still be allowed to leave Sporting for €70m. Arsenal have always been one to watch, but it will depend on Berta now because he is also in ongoing talks for Sesko at the same time, with a bid for one of the two targets expected soon."

Either centre-forward would be an upgrade on Arteta's current options. Sesko is fresh off a career-best Bundesliga campaign at Leipzig, while Gyokeres has just guided Sporting to their first domestic double in 20 years after scoring 54 goals in all competitions.

However, Arsenal now also have a new left-field option.

Arsenal offered Dynamo Kyiv striker Vladyslav Vanat

According to website Just Arsenal, Dynamo Kyiv striker Vladyslav Vanat has been put forward to Arteta's side.

Vanat scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, helping Kyiv to lift the Ukranian Premier League title whilst ending the season unbeaten. He also finished 2024/2025 as the division's top scorer with 17, and this has attracted some attention from England.

It is now believed that Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Vanat, who has a reported £17 million release clause in his contract. Arteta doesn't view the 23-year-old's signing as an urgent need right now, but is fully aware of Vanat's quality, so it's apparently a situation they could revisit later in the window.

However, if they do decide they want him, Arsenal will need to be wary of rival interest. Manchester United, Leeds United, Everton, and Tottenham are all keen on Vanat, with the latter even viewing him as a "priority signing" for new manager Frank.

Tottenham Hotspur and their recruitment plans under Thomas Frank are evolving by the day, with the Lilywhites currently involved in a transfer saga with La Liga champions Barcelona.

Spurs are expected to utilise the significant financial windfall from their Champions League qualification over the coming months.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge recently stated that Daniel Levy and the recruitment team want to strengthen in all areas of the squad bar their goalkeeper, so it appears they're determined to back their new manager ahead of his first full season in charge.

This apparently includes a new right-back, despite the emergence of previous outcast Djed Spence in a more regular first-team role and Pedro Porro's place in the squad.

Spence became a fixture under Ange Postecoglou and finished 2024/2025 as one of Tottenham's breakout stars of the campaign, and there is reason to believe that Frank will be keen to work with the Englishman given Brentford's attempts to sign him in the past (Alasdair Gold).

While the north Londoners won't need to adopt a 'sell to buy' policy this summer after their qualification for the Champions League (Michael Bridge), reports have suggested that Spence's evolution could motivate Levy to offload Porro for a decent fee.

As well as this, Porro is attracting rumoured interest from former club Man City, so the Spaniard could well look to end his Spurs stint on a high after winning the Europa League.

If he does end up leaving Spurs, Frank will still need a replacement who can rotate with Spence, and Monaco defender Vanderson could be a very adept choice. A report from UOL earlier this week stated that Tottenham are ready to invest significantly on Vanderson's signing, but Barcelona's talks for the 23-year-old proved a major obstacle in their way.

However, as per an update from Spanish newspaper Sport, this is no longer the case.

Barca have decided to cool their interest in Vanderson, due to Eric Garcia's excellent performances at right-back when Jules Koundé was out injured towards the back end of 2024/2025. This has opened the door for Spurs, who could now have a free run at signing the South American wing-back.

Tottenham are apparently "best placed" to sign Vanderson, and Monaco are convinced that Frank's side will meet his £30 million asking price.

Despite his fairly young age, the defender boasts top-level European experience and his Ligue 1 performances over the last 12 months have earned him five starts for the Brazil national team.

He also put in an excellent display against Barca in the Champions League early last season, grabbing two assists for Monaco in a 2-1 win against Hansi Flick's side.

“Every day he wants to be better than the last," said his former manager, Philippe Clement.

"That can give him a lot of pressure, lots of stress with all of the ambition that he has. We need to manage that more for him. If I left him to it, he would train for 18 hours a day. Since Frank’s appointment, Spurs have appeared to step up their interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, potentially securing a reunion between him and his former boss.

The Cameroonian international has enjoyed his best-ever top-flight campaign in 2024/25, registering 20 goals for the Bees, which has seen his stock rise as a result.

His current employers are demanding a fee in the region of £70m to part ways with him this summer, a fee that may be slightly out of the Lilywhites’ budget this window.

He’s also expressed his desire to move to Manchester United during the off-season, which has resulted in Frank’s men cooling their interest and targeting other options.

One of which appears to be Kudus, with the Hammers star a more than capable alternative, with the youngster impressing during his short spell in England’s top flight.

He’s proven that he’s capable of filling the void should Son depart in the near future, whilst his potential addition could see the club forget about a deal for Mbeumo.

The 24-year-old, who’s been labelled “generational” by journalist Gary Al-Smith, has registered more shots and a higher goal per shot on target rate, demonstrating his quality within attacking areas.

Kudus has also completed more passes and registered a higher tally of passes into the final third per 90, handing other players in and around the attacking areas to improve their own tallies.

If he is to move across London this summer, it would be a sensational signing and one that would help the club in their attempts to rise up the Premier League table.
