Description

When it comes to brilliant players, Tottenham Hotspur have been blessed with more than their fair share over the last ten years.

The likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were genuinely world-class for the Lilywhites and, as a result, formed one of the best attacking partnerships the Premier League has ever seen.

Likewise, Mousa Dembélé and Cristian Eriksen were sensational in midfield, but someone who arguably doesn't get the credit he deserves anymore is Dele Alli.

While the Englishman is still struggling to find form in Italy at the moment, he was near enough unstoppable for several years at Tottenham, and based on reports from the last few weeks, Daniel Levy and Co could sign the club their next Dele.

Dele's Spurs career

In February 2015, Tottenham agreed to pay then-League One side MK Dons £5m for an incredibly exciting 18-year-old prospect by the name of Dele.

While it usually takes youngsters a number of years to get up to speed in a top-flight team, the Milton Keynes-born gem took no time at all and, by the end of his first campaign in the capital, had racked up an astonishing tally of ten goals and ten assists in just 46 appearances.

Such an explosive start to life at the highest level saw him win the PFA Young Player of the Year award, and he did not stop there, as his sophomore season with the Lilywhites was even better and saw him score 22 goals and provide 12 assists in 50 appearances - enough to win a second successive Young Player of the Year award.

For a while, it looked like the youngster was going to become one of the very best players in the world, someone capable of playing in multiple positions at the highest standard.

However, as we know, that didn't happen, and after a few seasons of increasingly disappointing performances, Dele moved to Everton in February 2020 - almost five years after signing for the North Londoners.

The club haven't had a player like the 37-capped international, but there is a chance they could do so soon.

Spurs' potential new Dele

The last few weeks have seen many talented players linked with moving to Spurs, but perhaps one of the most exciting names, and someone who could be the club's new Dele, is Xavi Simons.

According to reports from late last week, the North Londoners are 'favourites' to land the incredibly talented international from RB Leipzig, although doing so would cost up to £67m.

Described as "one of the best 10s in the world" in the words of one analyst on social media, what is it about the Dutchman that means he could be the Lilywhites' new Dele?

Firstly, he is incredibly versatile and can play on either wing, up top, as a second striker and in attacking and central midfield areas, so just like the Englishman, he could thrive just off the centre-forward or deeper if required.

Moreover, just like the former MK Dons gem in his early seasons in North London, the Amsterdam-born "superstar," as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, is an output machine.

For example, in 43 appearances last season, he scored ten goals and provided 15 assists, and in 33 appearances this season, he scored 11 goals and provided eight assists, coming out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.72 and 1.83 games, respectively.

Finally, and this is rather difficult to prove with statistics, but just like the Englishman was, the former PSG gem is capable of some utterly sublime bits of skill and has scored more than his fair share of brilliant goals for Leipzig and PSV.

Ultimately, Spurs have been crying out for another young talent to come in and have the sort of effect Dele did when he first joined almost a decade ago, and while he's a little older, Simons could be just that player.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur's pull in the transfer market, not to mention the finances available for crucial signings, have undoubtedly been boosted by their spot in the Champions League for next season, with chairman Daniel Levy and the Lilywhites recruitment team set for a very intriguing summer window.

Ange Postecoglou vows better Premier League finish for Spurs

Spurs confirmed their place in Europe's most prestigious competition by reigning triumphant in the Europa League final last week, an historic night for both the club and under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou.

Domestically, Spurs finished one place outside the relegation zone in 17th, breaking their all-time record for most Premier League defeats in a single campaign, and this has resulted in a major dilemma for Levy when it comes to deciding Postecoglou's long-term future.

Their Europa League triumph represents a significant milestone for the north Londoners, who ended their 17-year wait for silverware and secured their first European trophy since 1984, with Postecoglou highly suggesting that he wants to stay at Tottenham during their trophy parade last week.

The final call on that won't rest with the Australian, though, who also vowed to put Spurs in a much stronger position domestically if he's given the chance next term.

"From my perspective, I made decisions that I felt were giving us the best chance of achieving the goal we needed to achieve this year and that has affected our league form," said Postecoglou after Tottenham's 4-1 loss to Brighton on the final day.

"If people don’t want to take that into account, then there is nothing I can say to explain it any better than that.

"I came to the club and we had finished eighth. I didn’t take over a club that had finished second. They had no European football to speak of. Lost the one player who probably guarantees you European football. That was my starting point. At the end of two years, I’ve got the club a trophy it has been crying out for, Champions League football, we finished fifth last year. Either people are saying ‘last year it was a huge anomaly for us to finish fifth or this is what we deliver right.’

"I have got no doubt next year we will be in a much stronger position, challenging for the top places."

If Postecoglou does stay for 2025/2026, there is little denying he needs to be backed in the transfer market with Tottenham's newly-found Champions League riches this summer.

Pundit convinced Angel Gomes wants to join Tottenham

Injuries left Postecoglou hamstrung at various points over the course of 24/25, emphasising the need for Spurs to strengthen across the board.

Their greater pull could also help them to land Europe's most coveted free agents, like England international midfielder Angel Gomes, who is set to leave Lille when his contract expires on June 30.

Tottenham have been tipped as one of the favourites to sign Gomes on a free this summer, with pundit John Wenham telling Tottenham News that he's convinced the 24-year-old would jump at the chance to join Postecoglou's side.

"Tottenham are going to be playing in the Champions League next season,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, when it comes to the pecking order of options Gomes has, I’m sure that Tottenham would be near the top of the list if they were to make an offer.

“I’m sure Gomes wants to come to Tottenham and live in London and play Champions League football with the current Europa League holders. As a result, I’m sure a decision will be made on that soon.”

The former Man United gem has impressed in Ligue 1 since his switch there in 2020, so much so that he was awarded his first call-ups to the Three Lions squad late last year.

He could be an astute option to reinforce Tottenham's midfield, which was left desperately short at points last season and crippled their chances of success.

Massive Tel upgrade: Spurs ready £38m offer to sign "unstoppable" star

Description

What could have been a bleak summer transfer window now looks like it could be an incredible one for Tottenham Hotspur.

Thanks to their heroic efforts in the Europa League final last week, Ange Postecoglou's side have a Champions League campaign to look forward to next season.

Moreover, competing at the top table of European football should allow them to attract more exciting players to bolster the squad.

In fact, if recent reports are to be believed, the club are already eyeing up a forward who's an ideal upgrade on Mathys Tel or replacement, should the Frenchman not be signed on a permanent deal this summer.

Spurs transfer news

The last few weeks have seen Spurs linked with a multitude of brilliant attacking players, such as Jamie Gittens and Daizen Maeda.

The former is supposedly available for around £59m and has enjoyed a relatively successful season with Borussia Dortmund this year, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 48 games.

Maeda has been even more effective north of the border, scoring 33 goals and providing 12 assists in 51 games for Celtic, and could be available for just £25m.

However, it looks like Daniel Levy and Co could be shopping closer to home for a new attacker this summer.

According to a recent report from Spain, Spurs are now incredibly interested in Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku.

The report claims that the Frenchman's departure from Stamford Bridge is 'virtually assured' and that the North Londoners are now prepared to negotiate a loan deal with an option to buy at €45m, which is just £38m.

It might not be the most popular transfer right away, but Nkunku was a force of nature at RB Leipzig, and if he were able to recreate some of that form in N17, he could be a perfect upgrade or replacement for Tel depending on where his future lies.

How Nkunku compares to Tel

So, the first thing to say is that, like Tel, the Chelsea ace is someone who can and often does play all across the frontline, so should Levy and Co not sign the Bayern loanee on a permanent deal this summer, he could come in to fulfil the same role, or compete with him if he does join.

With that said, which attacker comes out on top when we compare their output from this season?

Well, this is an area in which the former RB Leipzig star comes out miles ahead, as in 42 appearances, totalling 2039 minutes, he has scored 14 goals and provided five assists, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 2.21 games, or every 107.31 minutes.

In contrast, the Sarcelles-born Lilywhites ace has scored just three goals and provided two assists in 34 appearances, totalling 1714 minutes, across both his teams this season, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 6.8 games, or every 342.8 minutes.

What about their underlying numbers, then? Who comes out looking better when we take a look under the hood?

Unfortunately for Postecoglou's January addition, it's the Blues' "unstoppable" dynamo, as dubbed by European football expert Zach Lowy, who once again emerges victorious.

For example, he comes out on top in the majority of relevant metrics, including but not limited to expected and actual non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive passes, shots on target, shot and goal-creating actions, passes into the final third, key passes and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, Tel is still a talented footballer, but Nkunku has the better raw output and underlying numbers while being just as versatile, so should Levy and Co regardless of whether they decide to activate the option in the 20-year-old's loan deal; they should also be looking to bring the Chelsea ace to N17.

Description

It's been a funny old season for Tottenham Hotspur.

While the vast majority of the campaign has been nothing short of shambolic, especially in the Premier League, the fans are surely now the happiest in London following their Europa League triumph last week.

However, even though Ange Postecoglou was able to deliver the club their first trophy in 17 years, his job could still be under serious threat.

In fact, if recent reports are to be believed, another manager in the Premier League is currently one of the leading candidates to replace him this summer.

Tottenham's manager search

Before we get to the coach in question, it's worth looking at a couple of the other names that have been linked with Spurs in recent weeks and months, such as Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner.

The former might not have had the best of times managing Everton in the past, but since taking charge of Fulham in 2021, he has led them up from the Championship and established them as a solidly mid-table side.

Glasner, on the other hand, has worked wonders at Crystal Palace, turning them into a team capable of giving anyone a game and then delivering them their first-ever major honour in the FA Cup earlier this month.

However, with both looking like they'll be staying at their respective clubs, another name has become a prominent candidate for the Lilywhites hot seat: Thomas Frank.

According to a recent report from talkSPORT, the Brentford boss is now 'emerging as a strong contender to replace Postecoglou' ahead of next season.

The report revealed that Dane has a hefty £9m release clause in his contract with the Bees, although his 'long-standing relationship with Spurs' technical director Johan Lange' could help justify the outlay.

It could be a complicated and potentially unpopular decision in light of their European success, but given his record in the league, Frank could be an ideal Postecoglou replacement.

How Frank compares to Ange

It's important to note that should Spurs pull the trigger and bring in Frank ahead of next season, then the fans won't have to wave goodbye to entertaining football.

Now, while it's true that the Dane's sides don't tend to be quite as gung-ho as the Australian's, they aren't too far off, with the Bees' average defensive line height this season being 45.16m from their own goal to the North Londoners' 46.43m.

Moreover, despite losing their star striker in the summer, the West Londoners remain one of the league's highest scorers, racking up an impressive tally of 66 goals this year to the Lilywhites' 64.

With that said, how have the managers stacked up against one another this season?

Well, the "sensational" Frederiksværk-born coach, as dubbed by Sky Sports' Dougie Critchley, has managed 43 games, of which he's won 19, drawn eight and lost 16, which comes out to an impressive average of 1.51 points per game.

For his efforts, the former Celtic manager has overseen 60 games, won 26, drawn eight and lost 26, which comes out to a less impressive average of 1.43 points per game.

Moreover, while the Athens-born coach did win the Europa League, he oversaw 22 league defeats to the Dane's 14 this season, which could be what ends up costing him his job.

Ultimately, while it might not be popular right away, Frank has proven over the last few years that he can overachieve in the Premier League, perhaps in a similar light to Nuno Santo at Wolves before he headed to north London. That might well be a warning sign but either way, he'd surely be an upgrade on Ange.

Tottenham hold negotiations over signing 6 foot 5 defender in last few days

Tottenham Hotspur have held negotiations over signing a colossal centre-back in the last few days, according to reports, with chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange working to strengthen the squad.

Spurs win Europa League but end Premier League season in 17th

Ange Postecoglou's future hangs in the balance after what was a very mixed season for the Lilywhites.

According to reports, Tottenham chiefs are currently '50/50' about sacking Postecoglou, with the Australian ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy whilst also leading them to a record-breaking 22 Premier League defeats this campaign, resulting in a lowly 17th-placed finish.

The emotional high surrounding their first European triumph since 1984 in the Europa League, coupled with Postecoglou's rousing speech at the trophy parade, will be firmly stuck in Levy's mind - and the chairman is now faced with an almighty conundrum ahead of next season.

"As much as you try to understand what a trophy would mean to these people, seeing them out there today, is why we do what we do," said Postecoglou after their Europa League final win.

"That's the priceless bit, for this feeling. I'm super pleased that these boys could deliver. All good things come through hard work, toil, perseverance and belief. This group have that in spades and I'm so pleased that we could crack that stone and now everyone can enjoy it.

"We had to dig deep, for sure, but what the history books will say is that we're the Europa Cup winners, and it doesn't say how we did it, just that we did it. I made family a theme from when I got here because I felt that we needed something to bring us all together and look further than just what everybody wanted. We had to form some sort of unity and the lads have been brilliant. They've shared their stories and got closer through the tough times like all families and now they share the reward."

A decision on Postecoglou will need to be made and quickly, with the first of two 2025 summer transfer windows set to open imminently.

Tottenham hold "negotiations" over signing Pisa defender Francesco Coppola

Tottenham's qualification for the Champions League gives Levy and Lange an almighty boost when it comes to the club's recruitment drive, with reports suggesting Spurs are more confident they can tempt players like Marc Guehi as a result.

The Crystal Palace star isn't their only defensive target, either, with Pisa Sporting Club's rising star Francesco Coppola also on their radar.

The Italy Under-20 international spent 2024/2025 on loan at Serie C side Vis Pesaro, but his performances in the third tier have apparently impressed Spurs scouts - so much so that they've approached Pisa over signing him.

That is according to La Nazione, who write that Tottenham held "negotiations" over Coppola in the last few days, but these talks ended pretty swiftly.

Pisa are said to have rebuffed Levy's advances for the towering 6 foot 5 defender, as they appear determined to keep hold of their highly-promising centre-back. If Spurs are to be successful in their pursuit, they may have to go back in with an offer which proves too good to resist.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy reportedly has a "master" tactician at the "top" of his list of potential targets to replace Ange Postecoglou, and the man in question has now confirmed where he'll be next season in a statement.

Tottenham now '50/50' over sacking Ange Postecoglou after Europa League win

Spurs ended the campaign with an historic Europa League triumph in Bilbao, at the expense of Man United, which ended their 17-year wait for major silverware and secured their first European trophy since 1984.

Their 1-0 victory over Ruben Amorim's side at the Estadio de San Mamés also presented Levy with a major conundrum, which he must now resolve in quick fashion after the conclusion of this Premier League campaign.

Postecoglou paraded the Europa League trophy around Spurs' stadium after their 4-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Sunday, which confirmed their 17th-placed finish in the table after a dismal 22 league defeats in total.

While the Lilywhites lifted their first piece of silverware in nearly two decades and qualified for next season's Champions League, their league form has been simply unacceptable, so you can see why Levy and the Spurs board are reportedly '50/50' over sacking Postecoglou right now (Football Insider).

"My gut feeling is I feel right now that I’ve done something that no one believed I could," said Postecoglou when asked about his future after their loss to Brighton.

"And I shouldn’t be sitting here talking about it (my future). That’s my feeling, but it is what it is. I just want to go on a break and enjoy my family and reflect on being part of something unbelievably special, unbelievably special. I’ve been fortunate to be in this position a number of times, but seeing those scenes Friday, and people have reached out and talked to me about how it has affected them, what has happened over the last couple of days, it’s a beautiful thing and I just want to enjoy that."

Tottenham manager target Marco Silva confirms where he'll be next season

In terms of possible replacements for Postecoglou, Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio recently reported that Fulham boss Marco Silva was the "first name" in their target list.

However, they're now set to run into a brick wall regarding his appointment, with Silva now confirming that he's staying at Fulham.

The 47-year-old has done an impressive job at Craven Cottage on a shoe-string budget, and briefly had them contending for Champions League qualification before they ultimately fell out of the race.

This would've undoubtedly turned Levy's head, but after Silva confirmed his intentions, he must now look to other Postecoglou alternatives.

Tottenham Hotspur will now "have money available" to strengthen their squad in the summer, and they hold an interest in a "world-class" Brazilian as a potential replacement for a first-team star, according to a report.

Tottenham's summer transfer plans after Europa League triumph

Having secured qualification for next season's Champions League via their Europa League triumph, Tottenham should be well-positioned to compete for the signatures of some top players this summer, and their transfer plans are now starting to take shape.

Ange Postecoglou's side have struggled defensively for much of the 2025-26 campaign, and it looks as though the manager may have to reshape his backline this summer, amid reports suggesting Cristian Romero has expressed his desire to leave at the end of the campaign.

Whether the Europa League victory tempts him to stay remains to be seen, but Pedro Porro has also been linked with a move away this summer, with Manchester City believed to be keen on their former player, and journalist Pete O'Rourke has named a Brazil international as a potential replacement.

Speaking to Football Insider about Tottenham's summer transfer plans, O'Rourke named Vanderson as a potential signing for Spurs in the upcoming window, saying: “He’s impressed at Monaco, a Brazil international, and a number of Premier League clubs have been looking at him over the years.

“He’s still got three years left on his contract at Monaco, and Monaco will be demanding a decent fee of probably £25million to let him go.

“Tottenham, now with Champions League football, will be looking to strengthen their squad and will have money available. So I’m sure he is somebody who is still on their list, but I don’t think he’s a priority right now.”

Vanderson could be "world-class" addition for Tottenham

Lauded as "world-class" by one scout, the Brazil international was a key player for Monaco throughout the 2024-25 campaign, making 41 appearances in all competitions and displaying his attacking prowess by picking up seven goal contributions.

Of course, Porro is also known for his attacking intent, but there are signs the Monaco full-back could be an upgrade from a defensive point of view, having outperformed the Spaniard on several key metrics over the course of the past year.

Not only that, but the 23-year-old is also accustomed to playing in a slightly more advanced role, having done so regularly throughout his career, which could make him a good fit for Postecoglou, given the Australian likes to play an attacking brand of football.

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten on home soil (again) to conclude their 2024/25 campaign, with Brighton & Hove Albion winning 4-1 to consign Ange Postecoglou to a 17th-place Premier League finish in his second season.

His second season will be remembered for something different, of course, for the Australian tactician made good on his brazen claim earlier in the year, ending Spurs' 17-year trophy drought after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday night in Bilbao.

But the league form simply hasn't been good enough, and the manager's future is up in the air. He's failed to get a tune out of these players, domestically, at least, and while defensively the squad have been shoddy, there's been a lot to desire up top too.

That's why Spurs are gearing up to sign a new forward this summer, with Ipswich Town's Liam Delap at the top of the shopping list.

Spurs chasing new forward

Dominic Solanke scored from the spot on Sunday afternoon to seal his 16th goal of the season across all competitions, having also laid on eight assists for his teammates.

However, injuries have prevented him from quite living up to the initial £55m fee, which could rise to a club-record £65m with add-ons, and he needs more frontal support, especially with Heung-min Son entering the twilight of his Premier League career.

That's why there may be substance to rumours the Lilywhites are preparing to bid for Delap, with GIVEMESPORT reporting earlier in May that Postecoglou's side are in the race for the English goalscorer, who was relegated with Ipswich this term but impressed throughout, scoring 12 goals across 37 outings.

If Spurs are to make their move, they may need to part ways with one or two, not least because this squad needs a shake-up.

Richarlison may well be at the top of that list.

Levy must sell Richarlison this summer

If Richarlison leaves this summer, he will do so as a Europa League winner, part of the squad whose names are immortal having triumphed on a stage so many before them failed to reach.

However, the versatile star has fallen by the wayside, all in all, especially when considering he cost Daniel Levy a whopping £60m figure when joining from Everton in 2022.

Having overcome a woeful debut campaign, the 28-year-old has enjoyed more clinical results over the past two terms, but it's not enough to turn the tide.

And against Brighton this weekend, Richarlison failed to leave a positive mark when called into play, albeit he was likely nursing a hangover with the rest of the squad after the midweek merriment.

The Brazilian forward was introduced with less than an hour still on the clock but was still criticised by football.london's Alasdair Gold for failing to influence the game, branded with a 4/10 match rating.

As per Sofascore, the £90k-per-week star only completed two passes after replacing Solanke, Tottenham trailing by just one goal. He also failed with his one attempted dribble and lost five of six duels.

As per transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Richarlison is now considering his Tottenham future, with Everton and Flamengo back in his homeland both interested. The robust player wishes to enhance his prospects of playing for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup over the pond.

Tottenham need reform this summer, and Richarlison is a big part of the struggling crew who need to be shipped out, creating space for a new era which could take the success of this season and build something special. Something fit to last.

53% passing: 5/10 Spurs star is in danger of becoming the next Lucas Moura - Football FanCast

Tottenham Hotspur were thrashed by Brighton & Hove Albion to finish a miserable Premier League campaign that has been salvaged and then some overseas.

Indeed, Ange Postecoglou's side dared to dream in midweek, beating Manchester United in Bilbao to seal the Europa League title and end 17 interminable years of rotten luck on the trophy front.

A hangover was expected, but this bruising defeat was not an outlier for the Lilywhites, who have wrapped up the 2024/25 league campaign languishing in 17th place.

There's much for chairman Daniel Levy to chew on over the coming months, with several players doing themselves few favours down N17 this weekend.

Spurs' worst performers vs Brighton

Tottenham lost their 22nd top-flight match of the season, marking the end of their worst-ever Premier League campaign.

The defensive capitulation underlined the crux of Postecoglou's woe this season, with pitiful performances from the newly-promoted trio proving the tenuous barrier between Tottenham and a true relegation dogfight.

There were more than a few tired legs after the interval, and Dominic Solanke's early penalty was too little to give Tottenham the strength they needed to finish the term off on strong footing, with Pedro Porro and Archie Gray lacking their usual enthusiasm, substitute Wilson Odobert inefficient when welcomed after the break.

Yves Bissouma made a hash of things when brought off the bench, giving away the penalty after bringing down Diego Gomez in the box, leading to Matt O'Riley's spot-kick to make it 3-1. A fourth would follow in stoppage time.

It was a performance to forget, all told. Certainly not the fixture of the week that will be remembered in years to come.

One man in particular failed to replicate his sparkling midweek form, shining a light on his ability to emerge at the biggest moment, reminiscent of former hero Lucas Moura.

Spurs' new Lucas Moura

Lucas played an important role for Tottenham after signing from Paris Saint-Germain for £23m in 2018, posting 39 goals and 27 assists across 221 appearances in all competitions.

However, he didn't always maintain the requisite levels for a reputation in English football as a truly deadly forward, one who can maintain their output invariably.

Now, Brennan Johnson is in danger of adopting a similar reputation, proving Tottenham's hero on a big night but struggling to project his finest form with the desired degree of consistency.

Make no mistake, this has been a promising term for the former Nottingham Forest man, who joined for a £47.5m fee in July 2023 and has sharpened his goalscoring sense this year, bagging 18 goals and seven assists in all competitions.

He failed to add to his haul against the Seagulls, however, unable to influence proceedings for his struggling and, frankly, sapped side.

Football.london's Alasdair Gold saw the funny side, branding the Welshman with a 5/10 match rating but quizzing why he was permitted the full 90 after such frenzied celebrations only days earlier, bundling in the only goal against United on Wednesday.

Like Johnson, Lucas liked to make a key contribution on the continental scene for Tottenham, miraculously scoring that hat-trick to send Mauricio Pochettino's side through to the Champions League final way back when, but he lacked consistency, and that's something Ange's star needs to work on.

Underscoring this, the Wales international has only netted in three of his past 20 Premier League games, emphasising an up-and-down nature that Lucas carried through his career in English football too.

The good thing is Johnson can be afforded some leeway, of course, after his goal on Wednesday night, but he still saw a chance go begging after being played into space and struggled to impose himself, albeit working hard defensively, making two clearances as he found himself hemmed in the defensive third, as per Sofascore.

Johnson also completed only nine of his 17 attempted passes, a success rate of just 53%, failed to make a dribble, failed with all three attempted passes from range, and didn't even attempt a trademark dribble.

Still only 24, mind, he's got plenty of time to hone his talent and reach the level those around him know he is capable of.

One thing's for sure: he has already left a bigger legacy than his Brazilian positional peer and could reach higher still with a few improvements over the coming season.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now confident they can win the race for a midfield "magician" following their Europa League triumph against Manchester United, according to a report.

Spurs end 17-year trophy drought in Bilbao

Tottenham's long wait for a trophy came to an end earlier this week, sealing European glory with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, which sparked some wild scenes upon their return to north London.

Ending the 17-year wait for major silverware was of the utmost importance to Ange Postecoglou, who once again delivered in his second season, but his side's Europa League triumph also secures a return to the Champions League next season, despite their dismal Premier League form.

As such, moving to Spurs should be an attractive proposition for some top players in the summer transfer window, and they are now growing in confidence they can win the race for a midfielder, who is also being targeted by Man United.

Indeed, according to a report from The Boot Room, both Tottenham and United are interested in signing Lille's Angel Gomes, who is set to be available on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract this summer, and the north Londoners are now confident about winning the race.

The Red Devils' defeat in the Europa League final means they will not be playing European football of any description next season, which could make a move to north London more appealing for Gomes, who has been a long-standing target for Postecoglou's side.

"Magician" Gomes could be excellent signing for Spurs

Ange has been plagued with injuries throughout the campaign, with the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison spending time on the sidelines, while there is also a feeling the manager could look to offload fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma in the summer.

As such, it makes perfect sense for Tottenham to bring in more depth in the middle of the park this summer, and the Lille maestro could be an excellent addition to the squad, having received his first England call-up earlier this season.

Indeed, the Englishman caught the eye of former interim boss Lee Carsley, while he has also received high praise from former teammate Jonathan Panzo, who said: "He's like a magician,"
