Description

What was set to go down as Tottenham Hotspur's worst season in a generation just a few days ago will now go down in history for all the right reasons.

Ange Postecoglou's side might still have seriously underperformed in the Premier League, but nobody is going to remember that following their Europa League heroics on Wednesday night.

The North Londoners might not have been at their free-flowing best against Manchester United, but they were stubborn, hard to break down and came out with a European title as the reward.

Two of the best players on the night were Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, and yet, Spurs might already have found themselves an even bigger talent.

Van de Ven & Romero's heroric showing

One can only wonder how Spurs' season would have turned out had Van de Ven and Romero been fit for more of it, as against the Red Devils, they were both sensational.

The former didn't even have to rely on his breakneck speed too much, as he was consistently in the right place at the right time, so much so that he was able to clear Rasmus Hojlund's header off the line midway through the second half.

Likewise, Romero was a rock at the back, making ten clearances, blocking one shot and making another tackle for good measure.

Moreover, while he committed one foul and found himself winding up Harry Maguire at almost every opportunity, the usually hot-headed World Cup winner kept himself on the referee's right side and fully deserved his Man of the Match award.

It's almost impossible to overstate just how important both defenders are to Postecoglou's system, as when he does instruct his team to play a high line, it's the Flying Dutchman's rapid pace that ensures they aren't caught on the counter too easily.

Moreover, as the team isn't regarded as being particularly tough, it helps to have the former Juventus ace in the backline, instructing his teammates and giving 100% in every challenge.

Yet, as utterly brilliant as both Romero and Van de Ven are, it looks like Spurs might have already found another young defender who could be an even bigger talent than both.

Spurs' incredibly exciting talent

It would be fair to say that, for everything that has gone wrong this season, Spurs have a number of really exciting youngsters in their ranks, like Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, and Mikey Moore.

There will likely be another name added to that list for next season: Luka Vušković.

The Croatian teenager was signed by the Lilywhites back in September 2013 but has spent the last year and a half on loan with Radomiak for the latter half of the 23/24 season and then Belgian outfit KVC Westerloo for this season.

Described as a "freak talent" with a "scary ceiling" by respected data analyst Ben Mattinson, the 18-year-old has been nothing short of spectacular in Belgium this year.

It might sound hyperbolic, but it's really not, as in just 35 appearances, the "monster of a CB," as dubbed by Mattinson, has managed to score seven goals and provide three assists, which works out to an average of a goal involvement every 3.5 games.

On top of being a huge attacking threat, the 6 foot 5 titan is no slouch when it comes to the defensive side of the game either.

According to FOTmob, he sits in the top 7.7% of centre-backs in the league for aerial duels won and blocks, the top 8.8% for ball recoveries, and the top 23.1% for overall duels won - which is undeniably outstanding for someone so young.

Ultimately, while it's still incredibly early in his career, Vušković looks destined to reach the top of the game, and based on his already rapid development, he looks like a bigger talent than Van de Ven and Romero.

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with the representatives of an "outrageous" forward compared to Argentina icon Lionel Messi, according to reports, coming amid their triumph in the Europa League.

Tottenham end 17-year wait for silverware after Europa League win over Man Utd

Brennan Johnson etched his name into Spurs folklore on Wednesday night, scoring the only goal of a tense encounter, with Ange Postecoglou's side ending the club's 17-year wait for major silverware after beating Man Utd 1-0.

As Tottenham's squad hoisted the trophy aloft, Postecoglou was also reminded of the promise he made earlier this campaign - namely that he 'always' wins silverware during his second season in charge.

It was a statement which could've come back to bite him, but the 59-year-old's message has now been vindicated by Spurs' glorious night in Spain. Postecoglou became the first Australian manager to win a major European trophy, doing his country proud in the process, all while changing an ever-present narrative around the Lilywhites that they're a 'nearly' team.

"It wasn't me boasting, it was a declaration," said Postecoglou on his 'second season' quote after Tottenham's win over United.

"If we fell short, I was ready to cop it."

Guglielmo Vicario's heroics in goal - combined with Cristian Romero's outstanding defensive display, Micky van de Ven's acrobatic clearance off the line and the performances of their wing-backs - helped to shut a dominant Man United side out and end Tottenham's long wait for a parade.

Spurs also sealed a monumental boost by qualifying for next season's Champions League, and all the riches that come with it in terms of both revenue and player-pull.

This will undoubtedly have a positive effect on their summer recruitment strategy. Whether or not Tottenham's trophy-winning boss will be at the helm to benefit from it next term remains to be seen, following previous reports Postecoglou could leave regardless of their Europa League campaign.

However, whether it be for Postecoglou or any potential new manager, Lyon star Rayan Cherki is attracting Daniel Levy's interest.

Tottenham hold talks with Rayan Cherki after Lionel Messi comparison

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham have declared their interest in Cherki after holding talks with his representatives.

Levy and co are apparently attempting to discover more about the terms he'd want to join them, and there are reports that the exciting French winger has a very tempting £19 million release clause in his contract.

This could make the "outrageous" forward one of the bargains of this summer window, especially after a phenomenal 24/25 haul of 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions.

GMS also stated that the boldness of Tottenham's offer to Cherki would be directly linked to their Europa League triumph, so now that they're confirmed champions, Levy could make a more tempting proposal.

Description

And just like that, Tottenham Hotspur have made history.

After everything that has gone wrong this season, after all the losses in the Premier League and domestic cups, Ange Postecoglou's side walked out against Manchester United last night and left the pitch as Europa League champions.

It wasn't exactly a game of the highest standard, but we don't think a single player or fan associated with the North Londoners cares, as their 17-year trophy drought is finally over.

Moreover, while the quality wasn't necessarily present, there were plenty of hearty and heroic performances from the men in white, including one starter who must surely now be worth a fortune.

Spurs' star performers vs United

So, before we get to the player in question, it's only fair we look at some of the other Spurs starters who left it all out on the pitch last night, such as Brennan Johnson.

The Welshman can sometimes go missing in games, and while he wasn't exactly a constant threat in Bilbao, he managed to score the all-important goal and, as a result, etched his name into Tottenham folklore.

In short, the former Nottingham Forest star was fully deserving of the 8/10 match rating he got from the Standard's Dan Kilpatrick.

The same score was given to Cristian Romero, who wore the captain's armband until Son Heung-min came on late in the second half, and he more than led by example.

While perhaps a little too heated at times, the Argentine dealt with Rasmus Hojlund with ease, then managed to keep Joshua Zirksee relatively quiet and walked away with the Man of the Match award.

Finally, the often-maligned Yves Bissouma also deserves some serious credit for his complete display in the middle of the park.

The Mali international helped to mop up United's middling attacks and even split their defence open with a brilliant pass on the odd occasion, in turn justifying the 8/10 match rating he got from Kilpatrick.

Yet, there was another starter from last night who was the pick of the bunch, someone who is a £101m superstar in the making.

Spurs' £101m superstar in the making

While there were some other starters who did themselves proud last night, like Richarlison and Pedro Porro, the incredible player we want to talk about is none other than Micky van de Ven.

The Flying Dutchman was utterly superb for Spurs last night and was arguably even more impressive than his defensive partner, so much so that considering Romero was valued at around £101m late last year, we reckon the former Vfl Wolfsburg gem isn't too far off a similar valuation.

It was a masterclass of performance, with the 24-year-old making five clearances, completing 100% of his passes, blocking two shots and, most crucially, making a goal-line clearance from Hojlund's header after Guglimle Vicario fumbled the ball from a cross.

Unsurprisingly, we were not the only ones massively impressed with the titanic defender.

For example, Kilpatrick awarded him a 9/10 match rating at full-time, writing that he was 'composed and commanding at the back' throughout the game.

Then, respected talent scout Jacek Kulig went a step further and labelled him as "one of Tottenham's absolute heroes," which, considering the context of his display and what it means for the club going forward, is pretty hard to dispute.

Ultimately, there were heroic performances across the pitch for Spurs last night, but for our money, anyway, Van de Ven was the pick of the bunch, and if Romero has a valuation of up to £101m, it's just a matter of time until he does as well.

Not just Mikey Moore: Ange must axe "generational" Spurs forward in Bilbao

Description

Today is the day for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou and his team can make their fans forget about their diabolically poor domestic season by continuing their impressive European run and winning the Europa League Final.

However, with Manchester United having a stellar track record on the continent this season as well, it's anyone's guess who'll get their hand on the trophy come full-time.

To give his team a better chance of coming away victorious, Postecoglou will have to make a number of changes to the starting lineup that lost away to Aston Villa on Friday night, like dropping Mikey Moore.

Why Moore should be dropped

The first thing to say is that while we think Moore should be taken out of the team, that doesn't mean we don't think he'll have a large part to play for the club in the coming seasons.

After all, his youth record of 21 goals and 15 assists in 34 appearances across the various levels is nothing short of spectacular, and according to respected analyst Ben Mattinson, he's a "future superstar" in the making.

However, he is still just 17 years old, and while he has looked reasonably impressive for the senior team here and there, he's not had a significant enough impact - three goal involvements in 21 games - to warrant a start in the club's biggest game since the Champions League Final.

Moreover, his inexperience showed somewhat at Villa Park, as he struggled to assert himself on the game and eventually came off the pitch in the 87th minute, having made just seven passes and failing in 100% of his dribbles.

Moreover, with Brennan Johnson still the team's top scorer in all competitions this term, with 17 in 49 games, it should go without saying that he should be starting on the right ahead of everyone else.

The other Spurs star who should be dropped

Given the underwhelming nature of the game, there are a few other players you could bring up who should probably be taken out of the team for the final, like Archie Gray, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies and more.

Yet, in this instance, we are talking about another starter in the attack: Mathys Tel.

The young Frenchman might well be one of the more exciting players in the Lilywhites' squad, with some at the club reportedly labelling him a "generational talent" before he arrived in February, but against the Villans, he didn't do enough to convince us he should keep his place in the team for tonight's monumental clash.

For example, despite leading the line for 96 minutes, he failed to take a single shot on target, registered just 0.15 expected assists, failed in 80% of his attempted dribbles, completed only 12 passes, failed in 100% of his crosses, missed one big chance, lost ten of 14 duels, lost the ball 11 times and committed four fouls.

Add to that the fact that he's scored just three goals and provided one assist in 19 appearances for the club this season, and it's almost impossible to make a convincing argument about why he should lead the line against the Red Devils.

Moreover, Dominic Solanke, the man who should come in to replace him, has been far more effective in front of goal this season, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 43 appearances.

Ultimately, Tel could still be a useful asset for Spurs in tonight's final, but to get the most out of him, Postecoglou would be better off starting him on the bench and then bringing him on later into the match as things get stretched so that he can exploit the opening spaces with his pace.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has his eyes on a title-winning manager who Chelsea are also targeting to potentially replace Enzo Maresca, according to reports, with Ange Postecoglou's future continuing to be the centre of debate around N17.

The Australian, ahead of their all-important Europa League final, commented on widespread reports that Spurs' clash against Man United could be his penultimate game in charge of the club.

The likes of David Ornstein suggested in the build up to Wednesday night that Postecoglou is likely to leave Tottenham regardless of their success in Europe, with his exit from N17 seeming far more likely than not after a regrettable domestic campaign.

Spurs are on 21 Premier League defeats this season and still counting, meaning Levy could look to part company with the 59-year-old amid intriguing links to a host of alternative top-level coaches.

Postecoglou, speaking ahead of their first European final since their Champions League loss to Liverpool in 2019, said that he is relaxed about his future irrespective of what happens.

"It doesn’t matter because the reality of it is the opportunity is the same, for me and more importantly for the club," Postecoglou told reporters about his tenuous position as Spurs boss.

"I’ve said before that whatever happens beyond tomorrow is kind of irrelevant when you think about the opportunity that exists right now. That opportunity is to provide something special for the football club and for the supporters and for everyone who has worked so hard, not just this year but for the 15, 16 years, however long it has been without a trophy and also the 41 years without a European trophy.

"If I was worried about my tenure at this football club, it’s fair to say we wouldn’t have been in this position because I would have been distracted long ago. I’m pretty good at just making sure all my focus is on giving this football club the best opportunity that it’s had for a while to do something special. Whatever happens after that, mate, I’m very, very comfortable that I’ll continue on trying to win trophies wherever I am."

Tottenham shortlist Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi

Spurs could look to Italy in search of Postecoglou's replacement, with former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the last few days after a rumoured recommendation from Fabio Paratici.

As per newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi is on Levy's radar as well.

The outlet states that Tottenham have shortlisted Inzaghi as a manager target, and he's also wanted by London rivals Chelsea as a potential heir to Maresca.

The £8.8 million-per-year tactician guided Inter to a Scudetto last season and could still pip Antonio Conte's Napoli to this year's Serie A crown, with both sides set for a fierce final day battle for the title.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to trigger an "unbelievable" player's release clause this summer, according to reports, with chairman Daniel Levy and co apparently eager to make him a Spurs player before 2025/2026.

Tottenham kickstart summer transfer plans regardless of Postecoglou

Right now, the uncertainty surrounding Ange Postecoglou and his long-term future at Spurs is taking centre stage.

Postecoglou's immediate focus is on ending Spurs' 17-year wait for a major trophy and guiding them to a place in the Champions League draw for next season, but even if he seals a fairytale ending to an otherwise dismal campaign, the Australian is still expected to part company.

David Ornstein and other reliable media sources report that Postecoglou will likely leave Tottenham, even if they win the Europa League, so Levy and the Lilywhites could soon have a managerial conundrum to resolve before next term.

That being said, there are suggestions that the club have still kickstarted summer transfer plans, regardless of who is eventually confirmed as their head coach.

French newspaper Le Parisien recently stated that Tottenham are in talks with Lille star Jonathan David, after the striker confirmed that he'll be leaving when his contract expires this summer.

The north Londoners could sense a real opportunity here to strengthen their ranks at zero transfer cost, which is made all the more imperative by credible information that Tottenham could be set for a 'sell to buy' summer (The Telegraph).

Davie's potential arrival would also allow Spurs to free up funds for other targets, like Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

The England international has enjoyed another terrific campaign at Selhurst Park, ending it by scoring the FA Cup final-winning goal for Palace at Wembley on Saturday, which clinched the club's first ever piece of major silverware at the expense of Man City.

Tottenham ready to trigger Eberechi Eze's release clause

Eze added to his tally of 13 goals and 11 assists in all competitions against City, and it seems pretty inevitable that an elite club will make a serious effort to prise him away from south London.

His contract expires in 2027 too, and the attacking midfielder hasn't committed his long-term future to Palace, indicating that he could be open to another opportunity away from Palace, five years after he joined from QPR.

Tottenham are believed to be contenders for Eze this summer, with one Spanish media source sharing a pretty significant update on the matter.

Indeed, the report from Spain states that Tottenham are ready to pay £68 million for Eze and trigger his release clause, and the £100,000-per-week forward could be living out his "final months" at Palace.

Postecoglou's side will, of course, have competition for his signature, so it is by no means a certainty that they win the race for Eze, but there is little doubt he'd be a serious upgrade to the squad.

“Who’s a better player than Eze? For me he’s absolutely top, if he was luckier this season he would have five or six goals," said Oliver Glasner about Eze at the very start of the season.

“He’s always dangerous because he has the quality and ability at 1-1, he’s such an unbelievable finisher. In some situations, he can improve, he’s a guy who can always score, and he’s someone who everyone likes.

“This is why he’s on the pitch, because he’s able to score goals.”

Not just Spence: Ange must now axe "ridiculous" Spurs flop

Not just Spence: Ange must now axe "ridiculous" Spurs flop - Football FanCast
Description

Tonight is set to be the the biggest nigh in Tottenham Hotspur's season, if not the biggest this decade.

Ange Postecoglou and his side have the chance to make amends for their horrendous Premier League campaign and write their names into the history books by winning the Europa League tonight.

However, to do that, the North Londoners have to get past Reuben Amorim's equally desperate Manchester United.

So, to ensure this team have the best chance of winning the club's first piece of major silverware since 2008, Postecoglou must make some changes to the team who lost on Friday night, starting with Djed Spence.

Why Spence should be dropped

So the first thing to say is that throughout the season, Spence has probably been one of the few players who has increased his reputation.

His impressive blend of attacking and defensive abilities made him one of the team's most effective players in the months after Christmas.

However, while the former Middlesbrough gem has started the last ten league games for the club, the team have been seriously poor in those matches.

For example, they've won only one, drawn two and lost the other seven, with the games away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool and Aston Villa being particularly underwhelming.

Moreover, while he wasn't the worst offender at Villa Park, the 24-year-old was underwhelming at best, with the Standard's Dan Kilpatrick writing that it was another display demonstrating he's 'lost his mojo in the past month.'

So, with Postecoglou needing everyone to be at their very best tonight, he should take the Englishman out of the team and bring in Pedro Porro, who has shown his value in the last few European games.

For example, the "titanic" right-back, as dubbed by The Athletic's former Spurs correspondent Charlie Eccleshare, scored a goal in the first leg of the quarter-final, picked up an assist in the first leg of the semi-final and then scored another goal in the second leg as well.

In all, while Spence is a talented player, he should be dropped for tonight's game, as should several other players.

The other Spurs star who should be axed

Now, while there are several players you could make a case for dropping from Friday's lineup for tonight, the most obvious one is Sergio Reguilon.

The 28-year-old left-back made just his second start and sixth appearance of the season against Aston Villa, and while he wasn't utterly terrible, he didn't do anything to suggest he should remain in the team.

For example, in 74 minutes of actions, the "ridiculous" full-back, as dubbed by Gary Neville, amassed a combined expected goal and assists figure of just 0.05, was dribbled past twice, lost 75% of his ground duels, lost the ball 13 times, completed just 17 passes, misplaced all seven of his long balls, and failed in 100% of his dribbles.

In short, it wasn't a great showing from the former Real Madrid ace, and with tonight's game being so important, he simply has to be dropped from the team.

Moreover, much like Porro on the right, the manager has made Destiny Udogie his go-to left-back in the Europa League in recent games, and it's been a decision that's paid off.

The team conceded just one goal in their last four games, and Alasdair Gold awarded the Italian with a 9/10 match rating following their incredible 1-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ultimately, while Spence and Reguilon were not the worst players in the team on Friday night, neither one did anywhere near enough to break into Postecoglou's European starting XI, and therefore, both must be dropped.

Description

After a diabolically poor season, Tottenham Hotspur stand ready to play their biggest game in years.

Ange Postecoglou's side might well be 17th in the Premier League, but in Europe, they've been sensational and, as a result, have a Europa League final to contest.

However, alongside having to get the better of Manchester United for the fourth time in a row this season, the North Londoners will also have to do without several key players, most notably Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison.

Their absence has left a hole in the midfield, which the manager will have to get creative about filling.

Tottenham Team News

As we've already mentioned, the most significant absences for Spurs ahead of tomorrow's all-important final are Kulusevski, Bergvall and Maddison.

The former started the league game against Crystal Palace last week but came off with what was initially described as a "knock" in the first half, only for said knock to require knee surgery, which will keep him out until next season.

While Maddison hasn't had surgery for the knee injury he picked up in the first leg of the semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, he too, will be out of action until next season.

Likewise, the boss confirmed that the young Swede will not feature again this season, as he injured his ankle in the training session before that first leg earlier this month.

Finally, both Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner remain out for the long term, with the former injuring his ACL and the latter his hamstring.

The Spurs star who should start in place of Kulusevski

Okay, so with Kulusevski, Bergvall and Maddison now out, Wilson Odobert hardly doing himself any favours on Friday night, and Son Heung-min not being the dynamic player he once was, there are no ideal solutions to this massive issue.

However, one somewhat outside-the-box option Postecoglou could opt to go with is moving Pape Matar Sarr slightly further up the pitch and into that more attacking midfield role.

Now, before the pitchforks come out, we are well aware that this is an unfamiliar position for the Senegalese ace, but he's an incredibly talented midfielder, and we reckon that there are some elements of his game that could make this work for a one-off match.

Firstly, while he tends to play in central or defensive midfield, the 22-year-old "monster," as dubbed by journalist Mitch Fretton, has a decent shot on him - much like Bergvall.

For example, he scored a brilliant long-range effort against Manchester City earlier this season and then, while it was ruled out for a dubious foul, scored another from outside the box against Chelsea.

Moreover, in 80 Premier League appearances, he has managed to amass six goals and six assists, which isn't a terrible return and that, combined with his ability to strike a ball from range, could give United's defence something to think about in the absence of the Swedish duo.

Furthermore, his underlying numbers from the Europa League this season only further indicate that he's got more attacking ability than perhaps people give him credit for.

For example, FBref places him in the top 2% of midfielders for penalties won in the competition, the top 5% for total carrying distance, the top 6% for percentage of shots on target and medium passes completed, the top 9% for non-penalty goals and goals per shot, the top 10% for goals and more, all per 90.

Finally, unlike his captain, the former Metz gem would add even more dynamism and athleticism to the North Londoners' midfield, which could be key to getting the better of the likes of Casemiro and Harry Maguire on the night.

Ultimately, as we've already said, there is no ideal solution to this problem, but starting Sarr in the more attacking midfield role might be the closest thing Postecoglou has to one that will allow the team to keep its intensity.

One player has already admitted that he's decided the best thing for him is to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and it is now also believed that he could be subject to a marquee offer from the Saudi Pro League.

Daniel Levy set for Tottenham fire sale in 'sell to buy' summer

Chairman Daniel Levy and the club's recruitment team, which is expected to include the returning Fabio Paratici once his ban from footballing activity concludes, are set for an array of key transfer decisions.

As per a recent report from The Telegraph, Tottenham are likely set for a 'sell to buy' window, so players are expected to head out of the N17 exit door before Levy, Paratici and Johan Lange can ger to work on reinforcing the squad.

Richarlison is attracting serious interest from Everton, and Spurs are considering a sale of the Brazilian after his injury-ridden 2024/2025 campaign (Jorge Nicola) - three years after he made the move to north London from Goodison Park for around £60 million.

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid are continuing to express their desire to sign star defender Cristian Romero, who is believed to equally fancy a switch to La Liga as he looks to embark on a fresh challenge.

There is also the matter of current loanees who Ange Postecoglou deemed surplus to requirements, with Manor Solomon enjoying a productive loan spell at Leeds United and Bryan Gil impressing on another temporary stint back home in Spain.

The latter has already confirmed his intention to leave the club this summer, stating in a recent interview with Estadio Deportivo:

"That's something my agent will tell me where things are going, but they [Spurs] told me, and I told them, that the best thing is for us not to continue being linked to Tottenham.

"They bet on me when I was young, and they've treated me fairly well, but if I have to go back there, I'll focus on giving my best as always. I'm calm because no one can have a bad word to say about me not being professional. Without playing, I've always trained well, I've done what I had to do, so whatever has to happen, will happen. We'll see where we are next year."

Bryan Gil set for "dizzying" Saudi offer to leave Tottenham

According to Spanish news outlet La Razon, the 24-year-old won't exactly be short of offers if he does manage to seal an exit.

It is even believed that Saudi sides could make Gil a "dizzying" salary offer to leave Tottenham, with the Pro League intent on adding to their already-impressive collection of European stars as they continue their mission to build a star-studded, competitive division.

It could be an excellent option for the Spaniard who hasn't quite ever managed to adapt to the physicality of English football, but if a move to Saudi doesn't work out, Villarreal and teams in the MLS are also displaying an interest in Gil.

Paratici signed Gil from Sevilla in 2021 after instigating a part-exchange deal involving Erik Lamela, but his signing hasn't worked out as many hoped at the time.

Description

Former Tottenham Hotspur managing director, Fabio Paratici, has reportedly pushed one manager to chairman Daniel Levy, and the tactician in question has now officially left his club.

Ange Postecoglou still expected to leave Tottenham this summer

Spurs are gearing up for their most important clash of the 2024/2025 season on Wednesday, with Ange Postecoglou's side taking on fellow Premier League underachievers Man United in a blockbuster Europa League with everything on the line.

The victor will seal a place in next season's Champions League draw, and for the north Londoners, it also represents an unmissable chance to clinch their first piece of major silverware in nearly two decades.

After a torrid domestic campaign of record-breaking lows, where Tottenham have even lost their highest number of Premier League games in a single season, and currently sit a lowly 17th in the table, Europa League glory could hand supporters something to smile about at long last.

Postecoglou could even save some face and make good on his early-season statement that he 'always' wins trophies during his second season in charge.

However, regardless of what happens in the Bilbao final, the consensus is that Postecoglou is likely to leave Spurs at the end of the season.

Tottenham have been linked with a host of managers to replace the 59-year-old ahead of 2025/2026, with Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth), Marco Silva (Fulham), Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Thomas Frank (Brentford), Scott Parker (Burnley), Jürgen Klopp (Head of Global, Red Bull), Niko Kovač (Borussia Dortmund) and Edin Terzić (free agent) all mentioned by reports as potential successors to Postecoglou within the last month.

Ex-Sky presenter Richard Keys also recently claimed that Tottenham held talks with former Barcelona boss Xavi, so there appears to be a number of options under consideration by Levy.

There is another readily-available option following a significant development this week - ex-Ajax boss Francesco Farioli.

The highly-rated young tactician, who guided Ajax back to the Champions League, also suffered heartbreak at the end of the Eredivisie season - having blown a seismic nine-point lead to surrender the Dutch title to PSV Eindhoven.

Francesco Farioli exit confirmed after Fabio Paratici tells Tottenham to hire him

Reports in the English media recently claimed that Paratici recommended Farioli to Levy and Tottenham, with the club now handed a chance to appoint the 36-year-old.

In an official statement published on Monday, it has been confirmed that Farioli has decided to leave Ajax. The Italian informed officials of his desire to leave, just one year after taking charge, and Spurs have the chance to move for him without having to negotiate with Ajax.

Farioli is very popular within Premier League circles, and some media sources even suggest that he's shot to the top of their managerial shortlist. Dutch media have also branded Farioli as an "amazing" tactician, and the general Ajax reaction to his exit has been one of disappointment.

"I find this incredibly disappointing. Francesco and his staff have been a great help to us," said Ajax director Alex Kroes.

"It’s been an intense season filled with many memorable moments, and we achieved our goal: qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Francesco also played a key role in enhancing the high-performance culture at Ajax, for which we are extremely grateful. This summer was already set to be a challenging transfer window, and it has now become even more so. It is up to us to ensure that a strong new coaching team is in place when pre-season preparations begin on 26 June."
