Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday (21 May) in Bilbao. Today (Tuesday 20 May) thousands of fans are travelling to Bilbao for the big game.

Reports are surfacing on social media of airports in London being full of Spurs fans, wearing their shirts. One user said: “Spurs fans have overtaken all the London airports.” While a video posted on social media showed fans singing at the airport “we’re on our way”.

Another user posted: “I’m at Luton airport and I’m seeing a lot of Spurs shirts!”. As many as 80,000 United and Spurs supporters are expected in Bilbao for Wednesday night's final, with Spanish outlet El Correo suggesting locals are braced for the Brits to 'colonise' the Basque city. United won the Europa League back in 2017, and some of their supporters appear confident of creating more unforgettable memories on Wednesday.

On Monday (19 May), Tottenham Hotspur stars and backroom staff boarded their Europa League final flight to Bilbao. Today, the Manchester United team will be flying to Bilbao.

On X it has been reported that the team will be flying at 3pm from Manchester Airport. An account named Attacking Football said: “UPDATE: Manchester United will fly to Bilbao at 3pm this afternoon ahead of the Europa League final.” The squad have been undertaking training this morning before their flight this afternoon.

Since ITV lost the Champions League broadcasting rights in 2015, fans’ only chance of watching their teams compete in European football has been to pay for TNT Sports. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for football lovers, who also have to fork out Sky Sports and Amazon Prime in order to follow their clubs on TV.

But according to the Sun, an olive branch is being extended by TNT Sports ahead of the Europa League and Conference League finals later this month. The tabloid has claimed that TNT Sports is planning to make all three UEFA finals available via its Discovery Plus platform.

It comes after the European cup finals were also live streamed for free last season; even fans without a subscription were able to watch the matches. At the time of publication, now official announcement has been made by TNT Sports.

The Europa League final between Man United and Spurs will take place in Bilbao on May 21. The Conference League final is one week later on May 28, with Chelsea taking on Real Betis. The Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan is on May 31, at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is said to be under mounting pressure, with reports suggesting his future could be uncertain even if he wins. Tottenham haven’t lifted a trophy since their 2008 League Cup triumph. On the other side, Man United boss Ruben Amorim has also admitted he must improve but says his side owe fans silverware.

The upcoming finals arrive during a potentially historic season for English clubs in Europe. The Premier League could have a record nine teams competing in UEFA competitions next year, surpassing the previous high of five from the 2017/18 campaign.

That is thanks in part to strong performances under UEFA's coefficient system, which secured England a fifth Champions League spot for next season. With Arsenal’s success in Europe, the sixth and seventh-placed teams will qualify for the Europa and Conference Leagues respectively - and another slot could open up if Manchester City win the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

While Tottenham and Man United currently sit far below the top-four places, the Europa League winner is guaranteed a Champions League spot, raising the stakes even higher for their showdown in Bilbao.

The London club has confirmed that ex-midfielder Dennis Bond has passed away. The life-long Spurs fan played 27 games in three years at White Hart Lane.

In a post on social media, a Spurs spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former midfielder Dennis Bond at the age of 77. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Dennis’ friends and family at this impossibly sad time.”

A cause of death has not been confirmed at the time of publication.

Bond was born in Walthamstow and began his professional football career at Watford. He made his debut for the club at just 17 years old and went on to make over 100 senior appearances before signing with Spurs in 1967.

After leaving Tottenham, he went on to play for Charlton Athletic before finishing his career in non-league football.

He officially retired from playing at the age of 55, having featured for clubs such as Boreham Wood, Waltham Abbey, and Potters Bar Town.

Man City’s prolific centre-forward was substituted off in their 4-0 win over Newcastle United, and has since missed the ill-fated Champions League clash with Real Madrid and last weekend’s Premier League defeat to Liverpool. The Reds are now 11 points clear and Man City’s defence of the title is all but over.

Haaland picked up a knee injury against the Magpies, which he has been nursing ever since, with Guardiola reluctant to rush him back into the starting XI. £50m January signing Omar Marmoush has been playing upfront in his absence.

In a press conference today (February 24) Guardiola revealed that Haaland is still a doubt for their upcoming trip to Tottenham Hotspur this Wednesday (February 26).

After being asked when the Norwegian striker would be back, Guardiola said: “I would like to know, but I don’t know. [It’s] his knee - the moment against Newcastle moved the knee.

“Apparently he’s not injured because all the scans dictate that he’s fine, but he didn’t feel fine. I have the feeling it [his return] will be soon because he trained yesterday and made some really good movements, but he said he was not ready and we have to respect that.

“Hopefully he can be back for Spurs and in the next games can help us.”

Spurs find themselves languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table after Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat by struggling Leicester, their fourth loss in succession and sixth in seven league games.

Sections of the crowd made their feelings abundantly clear to chairman Daniel Levy during yet another difficult afternoon for Australian Postecoglou, who is approaching 20 months in a job which most recent predecessors Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho all found difficult.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, former Manchester City defender Richards said: “There must be something wrong, because if you look at Nuno Espirito Santo who was at Tottenham, now at Forest, of course, what [Antonio] Conte is doing at Napoli… Okay, Mourinho, yes, you expect him to do that. He’s second for Fenerbahce in the Turkish League.

“But they’ve all been at Spurs and maybe had more time, but they couldn’t get it right, is the opinion of the time, so when you’re talking about Spurs and the managers, it’s very difficult to know what’s going on behind the scenes because people go from there and end up doing well.

“Is that what the Spurs fans are alluding to with Levy? It must be something deep-rooted in what they’re trying to do?”

Conte’s Napoli are currently three points clear of Inter Milan at the top of Serie A having played a game more, while Espirito Santo is presiding over a remarkable campaign with Nottingham Forest, who remain third in the Premier League, and Fenerbahce sit second in the Turkish Super Lig under Mourinho.

No manager has got Spurs closer to where they want to be in recent years than Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, who guided them to a second-place finish in 2016-17 and the Champions League final two seasons later.

Alan Sherer said: “When you look at Pochettino as well, he needed to be backed at that particular time when he could have taken them to the next level, I think, and they didn’t. When you look at the managers that have been in the club, it has to be a bigger problem than the managers.”

Postecoglou has had to deal with a lengthy injury list in recent weeks, but has seen his understudies struggle in a run which has seen Spurs collect just one of the last 21 points they have contested.

However, they remain on course for a place in the last 16 in the Europa League and will take a 1-0 lead into their Carabao Cup semi-final, second leg clash with Liverpool on February 6, a factor which Shearer believes may have spared him until this point.

The 27-year-old, who plays as a forward for Premier League club Spurs as well as for the Brazil national team, made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, December 10.

One snap shows the player with his influencer girlfriend Amanda Araujo holding up two tiny sandals, with them captioning the joint post: "Now there are 3 of us."

In another pic, Richarlison is seen with his hand resting on Araujo's while they feel her baby bump. Richarlison and Araujo were first pictured together while on holiday in Brazil in the summer of 2023 along with some pals.

Araujo, a model and influencer, is also studying law in Sao Paulo. But she is regularly seen in the UK spending time with her boyfriend.

Richarlison underwent groin surgery last November to fix a health issue but his problems have continued, playing only seven matches for Tottenham this season. He is currently off the pitch due to a hamstring injury but is expected to return in the new year.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was forced to confront disgruntled fans after his team lost away to Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium.

Ange Postecoglou must have expected criticism after Tottenham lost to Bournemouth as his team have only won one of their last six games in all competitions. After the game at the Vitality stadium, he was both booed and heckled by Spurs fans.

Ange Postecoglou said he understood the reactions from fans but did make a point of saying: "I didn't like what was being said because I'm a human being but you've got to cop it,"

He also said: "I've been around long enough to know that when things don't go well you've got to understand the frustration and the disappointment.

"They're rightly disappointed tonight because we've let a game of football get away from us. I'm OK with all that.

"They're disappointed and rightly so. They gave me some direct feedback, which I guess is taken onboard.

Could Ange Postecoglou get the sack?

Listening to TalkSport with Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara last night, it was clear that Spurs fan Jamie O’Hara was very frustrated with the team’s performance and particularly Ange Postecoglou. Although he said: “I like Ange and I like the football he plays,” Jamie O’Hara also said: “There’s a big but coming. Daniel Levy is not going to stand for this. He will sack him. Daniel Levy is all about Champions football, Europa League minimum. If Spurs are tenth in the league after Christmas, they will sack Ange, I am telling you they will sack him.

Tottenham have now dropped below Bournemouth into tenth position and it looks like there may be more injuries worries for Spurs as Ben Davies limped off the pitch.

Arsenal and Chelsea ‘keeping tabs’ on Sao Paulo wonderkid William Gomes

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move for 18 year old Sao Paulo starboy William Gomes and are ‘closely monitoring’ the player’s progress at his current club.

This is according to a recent report from CaughtOffside. Previously, Newcastle United were thought to be ‘lining up’ a bid for the player, though nothing has been heard from the Magpies’ end since this.

So far this season, Gomes has played in seven league games for Sao Paulo, scoring two goals along the way. An adaptable attacking player, Gomes can play as a left winger, a right winger or as a number then - generally, he is deployed on the left flank.

Paul Robinson says Ange Postecogou is ‘under pressure’ at Tottenham

The 2024/25 season has not been kind to Tottenham - as things stand, the Lilywhites sit tenth in the league table with just 16 points from 11 games. As such, the pressure is beginning to mount on head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks that this pressure could reach a boiling point if the Australian fails to guide Spurs to Champions League or Europa League football at the end of the season. He thinks that playing in Europe is ‘vital’ for Tottenham - at the moment, however, he thinks Postecoglou is ‘okay’.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “He’s under pressure now. But I think he’s bang under pressure at the end of the season if they fail to make it into the Champions League or Europa League again.

“I think there’s got to be some signs of progression under his management. They’re being beaten too easily and they’re too susceptible defensively. He’s stuck with this style when it doesn’t necessarily suit some of the players in his side.

“He’ll always be under pressure at Tottenham, because the stigma surrounding the need to win a trophy is not going to go away. It’s the stick used to beat them with by every other club, so if he wins a trophy and doesn’t reach European football, would that be enough? I’m not convinced. I think European football is vital for Tottenham and where they are as a club.

“Ange has earnt the right to have time, but they don’t seem to be learning from their mistakes. At the end of the season, yes, he’s bang under pressure if they don’t achieve what they want to achieve, but at the moment, he’s okay. In February, if they drop out of the cup competitions and it doesn’t look like they’ll compete for European places, he could lose his job before the end of the season.”

England picked up a vital 3-0 win over Greece in the Nations League last night - in the wake of the Three Lions’ victory, let’s take a look at all the biggest rumours from around the Premier League today.

Two of the league’s big six - Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur - want to sign a young defender, but he will not come cheap. As things stand, he has a price tag on his head of £50 million.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are looking to give a Chelsea flop another chance, as Eagles head coach Oliver Glasner is rumoured to be ready to bring him to Selhurst Park on loan.

Chelsea and Tottenham want Bournemouth’s Ilya Zabarnyi

Both Chelsea and Tottenham could lock horns in the upcoming January transfer window, as they are both thought to be interested in a move for Bournemouth defender Ilya Zabarnyi.

This is according to a report from CaughtOffside, who note that Spurs are long time admirers of the 22 year old. Nevertheless, Enzo Maresca is said to be a ‘huge fan’ of Zabarnyi’s and wants to add him to the Blues’ squad.

Spurs are struggling for depth at the back this season, with injuries plaguing their backline - Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have both spent spells on the sidelines. As such, bringing Zabarnyi on board would be an excellent way to fill out their defensive ranks.

So far this season, Zabarnyi has made 11 Premier League appearances, but has yet to score a goal or register an assist. He has played in every minute of every game of the Cherries’ league campaign thus far in 2024/25. Such reliability could be just what Spurs need - unless Chelsea can beat the Lilywhites to the punch.

Crystal Palace could launch effort to sign Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk on loan in January

Crystal Palace have been linked with a surprise move for Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk, according to a recent report from Football Transfers. The move would not see him leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis - instead, the Eagles will look to forge a loan move for the Ukrainian international.

Despite coming into the 2024/25 season under the guidance of a new manager, Mudryk’s fortunes at Chelsea have shown little signs of changing. While he has performed well in the Europa Conference League, scoring two goals in three games, he has yet to score a goal or register an assist in the Premier League so far in the current campaign.

Mudryk arrived at Chelsea with plenty of hype in 2023, but has so far yet to realise his potential. He signed for Chelsea for an initial fee of £62 million, though this could rise to £89 million with potential add-ons.

Palace, meanwhile, have had a difficult start to the season. They are currently 18th in the Premier League table, having amassed just seven points from 11 games. Bringing a player such as Mudryk on board could be just what they need right now - a statement signing to raise the dressing room’s spirits.
