Dominic Solanke is making Tottenham fans ask a strange Conor Gallagher question - LiveScore
Description

Right now in the 2026/27 season, Tottenham Hotspur have scored just three goals against Premier League caliber opponents. And those two goals have both been scored by Conor Gallagher, who found the back of the net against Liverpool in the 3-1 League Cup loss and also scored in a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa. Given the other goal against the Lions was scored by center back Jan Paul van Hecke, Gallagher is the only midifelder or forward to score for Spurs this season.

As such, Tottenham are currently sitting dead last in the Premier League table after five Matchdays at the September international break, and while anyone who has been watching Spurs every single week in 2026 can see clear improvements over time in how the team actually plays under Roberto De Zerbi, everything feels so dire because the club can't buy a win.

And the main reason why Spurs can't win is because they can't score goals. They have possession, they are creating chances and shooting (even if they could still be doing better at both), but they are hopeless in terms of scoring.

Dominic Solanke has been the main culprit

The player most at fault is Dominic Solanke, as the veteran striker has been objectionably awful for Tottenham Hotspur. He was a problem in his first two seasons at the club, but with Roberto De Zerbi going back to him as the No. 9 and shifting Omar Marmoush to the left with Richarlison not even in the squad after a transfer deadline day feud began, Solanke's issues are sticking out even more.

He is not able to score or even get into positions to score, and he is so lacking in fight and so passive that most Spurs fans do not have any hopes of the former Bournemouth ace turning it around and looking remotely like a 65 million pound (then record) signing.

Conor Gallagher is not a striker at all. And Tottenham should not even think about starting him at striker in all seriousness. But Dominic Solanke has been so dreadful at getting into positions in the box or fighting for the ball that Gallagher actually looks like a more credbile option up top because The British Bulldog at least fights for those opportunities. Objectively, he's been better, too, as he has two goals to zero for Solanke.

All of this goes back to how terrible Solanke has been. The idea of Gallagher or someone who isn't a striker being thrown up top sounds ridiculous on paper, but it is less ridiculous when you compare Gallagher at a false nine to how unproductive Solanke has been. Hopefully, Solanke can turn things around, but that's all he has going for him; the hope he can be the fluke he was in the 2023/24 season when he scored 19 goals for the Cherries.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae.

The South Korean international has attracted attention from several European clubs, with Juventus and AC Milan also reportedly monitoring his situation in Germany, according to Fussball News.

Kim Min-jae emerges as a defensive target for Aston Villa

According to reports from Germany, Aston Villa are among the clubs keeping tabs on the experienced centre-back, who could become available for a fee in the region of €25–30 million.

The potential move comes as Emery looks to address defensive concerns at Villa Park. The Premier League side have conceded nine goals in their opening five league matches, highlighting the need for greater consistency at the back.

Villa strengthened their defensive ranks during the summer, but the club could still look to add another established option if their defensive struggles continue.

Kim’s experience at the highest level makes him an attractive candidate. The 29-year-old has made 121 appearances for Bayern since joining the club and has won two Bundesliga titles, along with the German Cup.

As for Tottenham, they are looking at the South Korean as a target, but they have recently signed Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Mohammed Kudus is showing the urgency Tottenham fans have begged for

Mohammed Kudus is showing the urgency Tottenham fans have begged for - LiveScore
Description

Tottenham Hotspur right winger Mohammed Kudus was the team's best player in the opening months of the 2025/26 Premier League season when he was first signed, to the point where Thomas Frank ran him into the ground and totally leaned on him to be the entire attack. When Kudus went down with an injury that eventually cost him the whole season, it is no coincidence that Tottenham got even worse.

Kudus is one of the best dribblers in the Premier League, and whlie he has shown flashes of that this season, he has not been able to be at his best, struggling with fitness issues. And Kudus still has to prove to everyone in the Premier League that he can be a difference maker of an inverted winger who can score and even assist at a high level.

Tottenham have started the 2026/27 Premier League season in embarrassing fashion, and they are currently dead last at the September international break after a crushing loss to Aston Villa, 3-2. Kudus had some nice individual plays but did not do enough to help his team win in the second half of the defeat, and that has been the case for him this season when he has played.

Tottenham need a healthy Mohammed Kudus

But Mohammed Kudus is showing that he is taking things seriously for Tottenham Hotspur. According to a report from Joy Sports Ghana, Kudus has decided to opt out of Ghana's squad for the AFCON qualifying matches this Fall. Even though he has been called up and is crucial to his country, Kudus prefers to focus 100 percent on Spurs.

And Spurs need him. They need Kudus to be fully fit, and since he has already been struggling for months to get back to full fitness, the Lilywhites have to see the winger prioritizing his fitness - and they need him back at full strength, even after signing the Manchester City duo of Savio and Omar Marmoush. Because it's not like Spurs are scoring more goals all of a sudden with their new attacking faces.

Plus, the last thing Tottenham needs is Kudus to suffer a new injury during the international break, as Spurs have found time and time again with players like Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero last year, and even Pedro Porro this year that the international fixtures are a great way to lose players. And Spurs need a fully healthy and 100 percent focused Kudus.

Dates and kick off times confirmed for Tottenham's November matches vs Leeds, Ipswich & Sunderland - LiveScore
Description

Is any fanbase on the planet quite as pleased that it's an international break as Spurs supporters? Tottenham Hotspur will spend the next three weeks rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, having accumulated just two points from their opening five games.

Roberto De Zerbi's team will next be in action on 10 October, with the next fortnight and a bit offering some much needed respite for a fan base in a constant state of misery. However, unfortunately for Tottenham fans, there are still 33 more games to play this season.

On Monday afternoon, the Premier League confirmed the dates and kick off times for all fixtures coming up in November. So, find out when Spurs will be in action and mark your calendars, either to watch the matches, or indeed to avoid them!

Firstly, Spurs will travel to Elland Road on Saturday 7 November. This clash with Leeds United has been brought forward to kick off at 12:30pm, live on TNT Sports. Tottenham have won each of their last three clashes with Leeds in West Yorkshire, never before claiming four successive victories at Elland Road.

This is followed by the November international break, after which De Zerbi's side will welcome Ipswich Town to North London. This has remained a 3pm kick off on Saturday 21 November, thereby not broadcast on UK TV.

Lastly, Tottenham will travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday 29 November. The Lilywhites have not lost back-to-back visits to Wearside since 1976, something they'll be desperate to avoid. This match has been pushed back due to Sunderland's involvement in the UEFA Europa League, hosting Jagiellonia Białystok the Thursday before, and has been given the unusual kick off time of 2:05pm, live on Sky Sports.

With no European action and having been eliminated from the EFL Cup, Tottenham will only play Premier League matches until January. Their matches in October and November are now all set in stone.

Tottenham's October and November Premier League fixtures

Saturday 10 October: Manchester United (A). Kick off 5:30pm (Sky Sports).

Monday 19 October: Coventry City (H). Kick off 8pm (Sky Sports).

Saturday 24 October: Chelsea (A). Kick off 5:30pm (Sky Sports).

Saturday 31 October: Crystal Palace (H). Kick off 5:30pm (Sky Sports).

Saturday 7 November: Leeds United (A). Kick off 12:30pm (TNT Sports).

Luka Vuskovic is benefiting from what Lucas Bergvall, Mathys Tel, and Archie Gray don't have

Luka Vuskovic is benefiting from what Lucas Bergvall, Mathys Tel, and Archie Gray don't have - LiveScore
Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi made quite a few controversial decisions this offseason, including two at the very end with Richarlison and Mykhaylo Mudryk, that he now has to justify to the world with Spurs already sitting dead last in the Premier League after five Matchdays, somehow moving backwards in the table.

But that narrative belies the fact that Spurs have shown progress in terms of how they play - and it also neglects that a lot of the managers who started swiftly at Spurs like Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and even Thomas Frank last season ended up performing quite poorly.

Although Jan Paul van Hecke has started the season pretty well for Spurs, the club signing him for more than 50 million pounds from Brighton, knowing that they would then lose the promising Luka Vuskovic to the Seagulls, was the first big controversial decision made by Roberto De Zerbi.

Luka Vuskovic has been impressive for Brighton

Vuskovic was one of the best players in a Bundesliga that included Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Yan Diomande, which is a really feather in the cap of the Croatian international. He didn't have the best World Cup, but he was a top five player in the German top flight and easily the best center back in the league in just his first season as a pro.

Now, Luka Vuskovic is quickly showing that he belongs in the Premier League, earning a 7.21 rating from WhoScored with Brighton looking a lot sharper than the Lilywhites to start the season.

The thing is, Vuskovic benefits greatly from the fact that he faces a lot less pressure at Brighton. Unlike Mathys Tel, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall, who oftne find themselves under a lot of scrutiny, Vuskovic is playing with a manager who has been at Brighton longer, a team that has outperformed Spurs in the last two seasons, and a team with a more established identity and chemistry with less media scrutiny.

There is less pressure in terms of people almost wanting Vuskovic to fail in the English media, and he does not have to be someone who lifts a struggling giant up from the gutter. That's a lot of pressure on young players that fans don't think about enough when it comes to their own youngsters like Tel, Bergvall, and Gray, who have already found themselves under a lot of criticism this season.

Bergvall took some of that off with a good game against Liverpool, but Tel and Gray, despite being great last season, have been torn apart after five bad games. Because even though Spurs have been terrible these past couple of seasons, they have more expectations, and when they fall short, the young players don't get the same grace of less pressure than Vuskovic gets at a club like Brighton.

Roberto De Zerbi quietly made it clear who Tottenham fans should blame

Roberto De Zerbi quietly made it clear who Tottenham fans should blame - LiveScore
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are having a nightmare start to the 2026/27 Premier League season despite apparently winning the summer transfer window with a host of dream signings like Omar Marmoush, Savio, Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes.

Most of those guys have not shown up, though, and Spurs are winless in five games to start the new season, sitting even with Fulham on two points but behind in goal difference. And Roberto De Zerbi is already feeling the heat, even though Spurs are beating their opponents in possession, shots, and xG - and even though he was the one who kept Spurs in the Premier League in the first place.

De Zerbi has made it clear that because of all this, fans should be blaming the players, and his most pointed remark in that direction was calling out his team for not listeing to instructions he apparently gave them repeatedly before they conceded an easy goal in their awful 3-2 loss to Aston Villa that has since confirmed them as the 20th out of 20 teams in the English top flight thus far.

Roberto De Zerbi is only defending his position

The Italian manager told reporters after the Villa game, via Arabic Spurs, "I don't know if some players lost their energy. But we conceded an unacceptable goal from a long ball from the goalkeeper. We knew before the match because Aston Villa plays long balls 86% more than last season. We talked about this in many meetings!"

That is far from the first time that Roberto De Zerbi has blamed his players this season in the press, but he is right to pass the blame onto them. If he did indeed highlight a clear, indicting statistic on how another team plays, hammered it all week, and the players still fell asleep at the wheel and screwed it all up, then they one thousand percent deserve to be called out for it. That is accountability, and it is something Tottenham Hotspur need to be asking from their manager to do and their players to follow after so many years of awful losing.

Spurs have generated progressive play and have the threat of making chances due to De Zerbi's tactics, but they are lacking the final ball or the goals because of the lack of quality of the players. And defensively, they are not listening to what De Zerbi is teaching them, so the manager is defending himself and making it clear, on the evidence, that the fans need to look elsewhere for the blame.

Savio again started brightly in Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat by Villa before fading, raising concerns that the £85m winger cannot sustain his impact beyond 30 minutes.

Mohammed Kudus is tipped to ease Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking woes after a lively Villa cameo, with the winger creating Conor Gallagher’s goal and having an equaliser ruled out.

Pedro Porro has been ruled out for the weeks ahead after coming off against Aston Villa, with Spain calling up Sporting Lisbon right-back Iván Fresneda for their Nations League squad.

Tottenham are considering a fresh move for Morgan Gibbs-White, with Forest valuing the England midfielder at around £125m after Spurs’ failed £60m approach in 2025.

Tottenham are reportedly advancing in talks to appoint former Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio as Spurs look to reshape their recruitment and football structure.

Tottenham are among the clubs to have checked on Borussia Dortmund forward Maximilian Beier, though Arsenal are reported to be leading the interest.

Rodrigo Bentancur’s strong form has not altered calls for Tottenham to use Mateus Fernandes deeper, with the £85m midfielder struggling when deployed as a No 10.

Steven Gerrard subtly served Sandro Tonali more notice that he needs to step it up

Steven Gerrard subtly served Sandro Tonali more notice that he needs to step it up - LiveScore
Description

Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is one of the most respected players in the history of the Premier League and arguably the GOAT of English midfielders, and he has great, even keeled insight that Tottenham Hotspur fans would do well to listen to, even if he is not one of their own.

And the former Rangers and Aston Villa manager recently offered a scathing critique of Spurs that is difficult to argue after their 3-2 loss to Villa over the final Premier League weekend before the September international break, which has now confirmed Spurs as the worst team in the entire league through the first five Matchdays.

Gerrard says that he looks at the Tottenham squad and does not see a single world class player who gives opponents reason to be afraid. He told fans on the TNT Sports broadcast, via Arabic Spurs, "Tottenham have signed players of good quality, but I don't see a world-class star. If you play against them as a player or as a manager, I think stopping them is possible... I don't see a player who scares me."

Tottenham's new signings aren't impressing enough

There are a few players on Tottenham Hotspur who will take umbrage with this quote from the great Steven Gerrard and should see it as motivation to step up. Holdovers from last season like Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, and even Mohammed Kudus will all fancy themselves as world class, especially Porro after he was the best player in his position at the 2026 World Cup for champions Spain.

But Gerrard most specifically went after the new signings at the beginning of his statement, and the most expensive of those signings was Roberto De Zerbi's golden boy midfielder from Brescia, former Newcastle United and AC Milan man Sandro Tonali.

The Italian midfielder won the Scudetto and was crucial in leading the Rossoneri back to the promised land, but while Tonali has played well defensively in recent weeks, he has not remotely looked like a 100 million pound player on the ball or creatively in the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign.

Tonali has been closer to decent and nowhere near great, and Tottenham signed him to be the new superstar of this team, otherwise he would be worth nothing close to 100 million pounds. Gerrard, a fellow Premier League midfielder, just gave Tonali a lot more motivation to prove that he is that guy and stands out as a star who can scare opponents when his name is in the 11.

De Zerbi makes bizarre Tottenham ‘maybe the best in the Premier League’ claim - LiveScore
Description

Under-pressure Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has made a strange claim about the club having ‘maybe the best’ players in one position in the Premier League side, despite his side sitting bottom of the table heading into the international break.

Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa made it no wins from five league outings so far this season, with only two points on the board, in what has been a joint record-worst start to a Premier League campaign.

As a result, the pressure is starting to grow on De Zerbi, who saved the club from the drop when he was appointed on a five-year contract with seven games of last season remaining.

More than £300million was spent on revamping an under-performing squad, but you would not think it, given the level of performances early in the campaign.

The Tottenham boss has been warned by pundits that Spurs will expect a return on their heavy investment, but the Italian refuses to doubt the quality he has at his disposal.

Indeed, De Zerbi insists that his opinion on the squad he has at his disposal has not changed, despite Tottenham scoring only twice and conceding eight goals in their five outings to date.

De Zerbi even thinks that one position group is ‘maybe the best in the Premier League’, commenting after the Villa defeat: “Even though we are not scoring, I cannot change my opinion of the players.

“Marmoush is a fantastic player. Savio is a fantastic player. Solanke when Solanke is fit is a very good player.

“Maddison, Kudus, Gallagher and Mateus [Fernandes] with different characteristics, all four of these players are very good.

“We have maybe the best full-backs in the Premier League. Robertson, Udogie and Pedro Porro. Five centre-backs, the qualities of the players, I cannot say anything different.”

Despite the woeful start to the season, De Zerbi refuses to rip up his plans and start again, adding: “Sometimes you have to change everything and sometimes you have to improve what you already are doing, and sometimes you have to stay calm.

“We are working to improve what we are doing to be better, but also we have to stay calm because I know we have two points, but for our performances we could have had more than two points.”

De Zerbi blamed for Tottenham ‘fragility and weakness’

Meanwhile, BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer has detailed the “fragility and weakness” of the Tottenham side, explaining why De Zerbi is to blame for their shortfalls.

Speaking on Match of the Day after the Villa defeat, the legendary England striker said: “He’s signed six of those players who started today.

“There’s definitely a fragility and weakness about them. In the last 48 games, when they’ve gone behind, they’ve failed to win any of them.

“That tells you what and who they are at this moment in time and it’s his job to change that. That looks very difficult. It’s incredible.

“He’s signed six of the ones who started today, so it’s up to him to change it.”

Despite some murmurings that De Zerbi is now under significant pressure to keep his job, our sources indicate that is not currently the case and that he will be given time to get things right in north London.

Spurs head to Manchester United following the international break, with both De Zerbi and Red Devils boss Michael Carrick in need of wins to get their respective seasons back on track.

Jamie Carragher reminded Tottenham fans of what they're worried about Roberto De Zerbi

Jamie Carragher reminded Tottenham fans of what they're worried about Roberto De Zerbi - LiveScore
Description

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher is not always a popular figure among Premier League fan bases, including those from the same club he won the Champions League for, but a lot of times, he says the harsh truths that need to be heard and has elite ball knowledge. Tottenham Hotspur fans saw Carragher be spot on and realistic about their team last season, and he was one of the few to actually be honest about Spurs without sensationalizing or outright rooting against them.

Now, Carragher is talking about Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who finds himself under fire after a winless start to the 2026/27 Premier League season. Despite spending nearly 400 million pounds on exactly all the players he wanted - well, besides Liverpool's Cody Gakpo - the Lilywhites are literally worse off in the table, sitting at the very bottom with just two points.

De Zerbi has already engaged in a bloody feud with Richarlison, whom he left off the squad entirely despite the Brazilian being the team's leading goal scorer last season - and obviously Tottenham are hurting for goals.

Roberto De Zerbi's volatility could boil over

Jamie Carragher used both this example and the way Roberto De Zerbi has been calling out some players publicly to remind Tottenham Hotspur fans that RDZ's volatility may not go over well in the locker room if the losing continues.

The former Liverpool center back said, via The Spurs Watch, "The one worry for Tottenham is that De Zerbi is not shy in coming out and speaking publicly about his frustrations, and he's already picked a couple of players out on the pitch and off-camera. Now, I sometimes feel at times players are a little bit sensitive to that type of criticism, and supporters jump on it a little bit too much, but that's only going to grow if those results continue, and if those results continue, eventually he will combust; that's just his history. To turn a football club around of that size, it was going to take more than just bringing in players and buying players. They don't want to hear it, but they've just got to be patient and wait."

Carragher is spot on about how Tottenham have to be patient and can't think that suddenly making big signings is going to right the ship, which is exactly what we are seeing. And that's a positive in favor of De Zerbi getting patience.

The negative is Carragher's warning. And notice he is not saying De Zerbi is wrong for calling players out, and many rational people will agree that players are too soft these days with criticism from managers and pundits. But he's right about how the reality of the situation is. Players get upset, and if the losses compile, the fans will join on the criticized players in turning on De Zerbi. It's a combustible situation that fans were worried about potentially happening in the future the minute De Zerbi took the job.
