Tottenham eye move to sign Sunderland’s Dennis Cirkin - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to sign Sunderland defender Dennis Cirkin, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

Since joining the Lilywhites from the Italian side Udinese a couple of years ago, Destiny Udogie has established himself as the first-choice left-back.

Other than the 22-year-old, Thomas Frank currently has Ben Davies as the only specialist left-back at his disposal. However, he has struggled to find regular game time in recent times. Djed Spence is a right-sided defender by trait, but has been deployed on the opposite side to provide cover for Udogie.

On TBR Football, Bailey says that Tottenham are planning to reinforce the left-back position and are willing to do that with a homegrown player. So, they have registered their interest in Cirkin, who came through the North London club’s youth system before joining the Black Cats back in 2021.

The 23-year-old was a regular starter for Sunderland last term and helped them gain promotion. However, following Reinildo Mandava’s arrival this summer, he has fallen in the pecking order.

Therefore, Cirkin has become frustrated with his current situation. Spurs were interested in signing him in the recently concluded summer window but opted not to make a concrete approach.

Cirkin to Tottenham

Now, they are set to keep a close eye on his performances in the Premier League before making a potential swoop in the upcoming winter window. Cirkin’s existing deal with Sunderland will expire at the end of this season, so he can be purchased at a cut-price deal in January.

In 36 appearances in the Championship last campaign, the Sunderland defender scored three goals and registered two assists. Moreover, he helped his side keep 11 clean sheets.

With Davies’ contract set to expire next summer, Tottenham need a new left-back to replace him. Considering he is set to turn 33 next year, it is highly unlikely that the North London club will hand him a fresh term.

It is going to be interesting to see whether Tottenham eventually make a concrete approach to re-sign Cirkin in January to reinforce the defensive department.

Description

After Daniel Levy resigned as their chairman, a new era is upon Tottenham Hotspur and the new man in-charge will be under pressure to back Thomas Frank after the Dane has made a strong start to his managerial career at the club.

Xavi Simons was the last major signing made by Levy before stepping down from his role, and the board is already drafting plans for another lucrative acquisition with TEAMtalk reporting about Spurs being keen on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Rogers is one of Villa’s best and most crucial players, although he has a lofty price tag worth £100 million, the source has added. Chelsea are also interested in the midfielder and view him as a replacement to Simons, who they missed out on in the summer.

Rogers promises to be a fantastic new signing

Morgan Rogers would be a fantastic new signing for Tottenham Hotspur and together with Xavi Simons, he would significantly up their quality in the final third with his world-class creativity and eye for goal.

After a few years at Aston Villa, including a season with 30 goals and assists last time out, Spurs would be confident that his proven credentials in the Premier League will also help Rogers play in a number of positions across the final third.

For the time being, they are lacking a potent left winger after Son Heung-min’s departure for Los Angeles FC in the summer and therefore, Rogers would be a handy fixture on the flank, a position which he has been employed in before.

£100 million might be a heavy asking price for Tottenham Hotspur, and with Chelsea in the picture, it will definitely take a massive bid to convince Aston Villa to part company with the English international.

That said, it will be interesting to see how much the Blues are willing to pay and whether Spurs are prepared to splurge big on a number 10 next year, just some time after after acquiring Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Hotspur battling with Manchester United for Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher

Description

Tottenham Hotspur signed Xavi Simons towards the end of the recently concluded summer transfer window and another midfield addition could soon be on the cards with Thomas Frank keen on a deeper-lying box-to-box option in his squad.

Yves Bissouma faces an uncertain future at the club, whereas Rodrigo Bentancur’s form has been inconsistent since last season, thereby prompting the newly appointed coach to consider making a new acquisition.

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, who could leave the La Liga side amidst heavy competition in their midfield just one year after joining from Chelsea.

Manchester United are also interested in the English international as they look for some depth in the engine room as well, with the player’s valuation currently standing at approximately £35 million on Transfermarkt.

Gallagher likelier to join Spurs

Conor Gallagher could possibly pick Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United considering they have arguably the better side on paper, and have been building a more attractive and convincing sporting project than the Red Devils.

United’s financial worries have shown no sign of fading away, whereas a slow start to the season means they are already facing an uphill battle in the Premier League less than a month into the 2025/26 campaign.

And while they could guarantee Gallagher with the minutes he is looking for, not playing in the Champions League coupled with a barren run on the silverware front might be a vital factor in the 25-year-old’s decision-making too.

Having said that, Tottenham would benefit from his addition given the player’s ability to win the ball in deeper areas of the pitch and use his reading of the game to drive attacks on. Plus, his defensive intelligence is a massive asset.

In order to part company with Gallagher, Atletico Madrid might set a lofty price tag, however, given that they invested nearly £40 million on him last year. It remains to be seen how much his suitors are willing to fork out.

Tottenham Hotspur preparing lucrative January bid for Manchester City forward Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur preparing lucrative January bid for Manchester City forward Savinho - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur signed Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last week but are expected to look for a more long-term solution in attack after Son Heung-min’s departure to join Los Angeles FC earlier in the summer.

Manchester City forward Savinho was linked with a transfer to Hotspur Way but a move stalled as the Sky Blues were reluctant about losing a key player without signing a suitable replacement.

It is expected for Tottenham to reignite their interest in the Brazilian, however, with Fichajes reporting that they are lining up a bid worth £87 million in January for Savinho with the club viewing him as a ‘necessary signing’.

Savinho is a key part of Pep Guardiola’s plans at Manchester City but amid high competition for a role in the final third at the Etihad Stadium, he is thought to be open to leaving in a bid to seal a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad next year.

Spurs could have a huge transfer window in January

Daniel Levy resigned as the Tottenham Hotspur chairman last week and while his successor has yet to be announced, there is a strong possibility that the incumbent for the position looks to instantly stamp his authority on the squad.

Therefore, the transfer window in January comes at the perfect time for another outlay by the Europa League champions, and a few additions to the squad midway though the season remain a strong possibility.

With their defensive department secure, Spurs could look to make additions in midfield and attack, so Savinho perfectly fits the bill considering he can play across multiple positions in the final third as well as the engine room.

It will be interesting to see whether Manchester City are willing to let go of Savinho in January, however. While he has not played any minutes so far this season, that could change soon with his future now with the Citizens at least for the shorter term.

Liverpool and Tottenham interested in signing Brighton star Jan Paul van Hecke

Description

Liverpool made a number of offensive signings in the transfer window with Alexander Isak’s late capture from Newcastle United capping off a memorable summer for the Premier League champions.

At the back, they also added Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Kerkez although there is still a slight lack of depth in the heart of their backline. Plus, with Ibrahima Konate in the last year of his contract and Virgil van Dijk ageing, a new signing is vital.

GiveMeSport has reported that Brighton & Hove Albion star Jan Paul van Hecke has emerged as a potential target for the Reds, although he is seen as an alternative to Marc Guehi, with the Crystal Palace star firmly the club’s priority for 2026.

In addition to the Premier League leaders, Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the Dutchman, who has been slapped with a £44 million price tag by the Seagulls, the source has further added.

Paul van Hecke the next big Brighton star

Brighton & Hove Albion have made some of the Premier League’s best and most expensive sales in recent times, and it is starting to look like Jan Paul van Hecke would be next as he enters the final year of his contract at the Amex Stadium from summer 2026.

The 25-year-old has been excellent in the middle of Brighton’s defence, and has been hailed for his superb reading of the game, ability to win ground duels and being very effective aerially on both ends of the pitch.

Van Hecke also has a good passing accuracy and can distribute balls well from the back, so he would make a solid replacement for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool having also shared the dressing room with him for the Netherlands national side.

And while Marc Guehi remains the priority for Liverpool, they might consider signing the Brighton mainstay if Ibrahima Konate leaves the club next season considering Real Madrid’s strong interest in him.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested for the time being but with adequate depth in defence thanks to Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin and Luka Vuskovic, it remains to be seen how much of a priority Van Hecke is for them.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur enter race to sign Marc Guehi

Description

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi was close to joining Liverpool on Deadline Day at the end of this summer’s transfer window, and in spite of a £35 million agreement in place, the Eagles pulled the plug at the last hour due to not signing a replacement.

Guehi is set to stay put at Selhurst Park in the final year of his contract even though he had undergone a medical with the Reds, but he will be a free agent next year having already decided against putting pen to paper on a new deal with Crystal Palace.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all set to compete with Liverpool for Marc Guehi’s signature next year with a free transfer for a player of his calibre too good of an opportunity to turn down.

Liverpool are expected to return for the English international as Arne Slot looks for greater depth at the back owing to doubts over Ibrahima Konate’s future, alongside wanting a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who turned 34 in July this year.

Chelsea could stand most realistic chance for Guehi

Chelsea will stand the most realistic chance to sign Marc Guehi, if indeed the central defender is open to joining other clubs apart from Liverpool considering he had already agreed to personal terms with the Premier League leaders.

Enzo Maresca persisted for a centre back’s signing to replace Levi Colwill at the backend of the summer after his ACL injury, and if the Blues don’t do too well defensively in the next few months, a new acquisition could be on the cards in the winter.

Marc Guehi might be open to the prospect of rejoining his former club, where he spent his youth career, while Crystal Palace could also cash in on him for a measly sum as opposed to losing him for free six months later as a free agent.

Liverpool would look to battle with Chelsea irrespective of whether they approach Guehi in the winter or next summer, but the Londoners would be better prepared to offer the player and potentially Crystal Palace with more attractive financial terms.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will be attentive to the 25-year-old’s situation too, but it remains to be seen if they seriously consider his transfer given that there is already an adequate amount of depth in Guehi’s position in both squads.

United could look for a secondary option at best, so Guehi might not be too attracted at the prospect of joining them, whereas Spurs already have five central defenders and would be more inclined towards revamping other areas of their squad.

That said, all things point towards Chelsea and Liverpool battling one another for Marc Guehi, and it would not be brash to think that the Blues would fancy their chances of scuppering the Reds’ attempt.

Tottenham opened talks to seal late deal to sign Mateta - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly opened talks with Crystal Palace over a deal to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta late in the summer window, as per Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

The Eagles have been a rejuvenated side since Oliver Glasner’s arrival as the new manager, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently. Following that, several of their key players have attracted the attention of big clubs around Europe.

Following Michael Olise’s departure, Eberechi Eze established himself as a talismanic figure. However, Arsenal have managed to secure his services by spending a big fee this summer.

Marc Guehi was heavily linked with a move away this summer and was very close to joining Liverpool on deadline day. However, the South London club have eventually managed to keep hold of him.

Adam Wharton has also placed himself on the radar of several big clubs, with Real Madrid and Manchester United reportedly lining up a swoop for him.

Now, Solhekol(via GiveMeSport) claims that Atalanta, AC Milan, Juventus, and a few Premier League clubs were interested in signing Mateta this summer.

Mateta to Tottenham

Tottenham were in this race as well and opened talks with Crystal Palace to enquire about the details of signing the Frenchman late in the recently concluded summer window.

Man Utd were also tentatively linked with a move for him before purchasing Benjamin Sesko. However, the South London club have managed to keep hold of him.

Eventually, the North London club decided to reinforce the attacking department by signing Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan deal on deadline day.

The 28-year-old is valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt and has entered the final two years of his current contract. Therefore, although Crystal Palace didn’t allow his departure this summer, they might be open to letting him leave next year.

Mateta, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a Premier League-proven player and has enjoyed a promising start to this season, scoring three goals in six appearances across all competitions.

It is going to be interesting to see whether Tottenham decide to revive their interest in signing Mateta to strengthen the frontline next summer or sign Kolo Muani permanently.

Tottenham set to swoop for Malick Fofana in January

Tottenham set to swoop for Malick Fofana in January - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a swoop to sign Lyon’s highly-rated winger Malick Fofana in the January transfer window, according to CaughtOffside.

Spurs showed no hesitation in bolstering their attack in the recently concluded summer transfer window, first landing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United before sealing a deal for Xavi Simons from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Mathys Tel’s loan move from Bayern Munich, while Kolo Muani was also brought in on a straight loan—without an option or obligation to buy—to bolster Spurs’ firepower on deadline day.

However, the club did not stop there, as further reinforcements were eyed, including a last-ditch move for Fofana, which proved futile as an agreement couldn’t be reached on time.

This is according to CaughtOffside, who claims that Tottenham made a late move to sign the Belgium international on deadline day, but their attempt was rebuffed as there was no time for Lyon to find a replacement.

Despite their failed late move, the North London club are not relenting efforts, as the report adds that Spurs are still showing a ‘strong interest’ in the 20-year-old and are set to return in the January transfer window to sign him.

‘Strong interest’

Fofana, valued at £26m by Transfermarkt, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. However, Caughtoffside reports that Tottenham are showing the ‘strongest interest’ in the Belgian winger ahead of the winter transfer window.

The forward has made remarkable strides since swapping KAA Gent for Lyon in January 2024. The Aalst-born winger, a product of Gent’s academy, has quickly established himself as one of Ligue 1’s brightest young talents over the past 18 months.

The 20-year-old has already racked up more than 50 appearances for Lyon, contributing 16 goals and eight assists. His rapid development has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham now keen on signing him in January.

The Belgian has started the Ligue 1 season in fine form, recording two goal contributions in three games for Paulo Fonseca’s side, who have won all their games this season.

Interest in the youngster is expected to grow as the season progresses, so it’ll be interesting to see if Spurs can ward off interest from other clubs to land the exciting forward in January.

Tottenham plan to re-open talks for Nathan Ake

Tottenham plan to re-open talks for Nathan Ake - football-talk.co.uk
Description

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are considering reopening talks to sign Manchester City star Nathan Ake to add more quality and depth in the defensive department.

The Netherlands international has fallen out of favour under manager Pep Guardiola, and has managed only 67 minutes in three games this campaign. With Josko Gvardiol’s return from injury and the summer arrival of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Ake is no longer an assured starter in central defence or at left-back.

This could pave the way for his potential exit. Caught Offside claim that Spurs are eyeing cover for Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, who have been injury prone.

Ake has been identified as a possible solution. The London giants were linked with him this summer and could return with a winter proposal.

With Man City’s plans to trim their squad, Ake could be allowed to leave if they receive at least £15m, as per the report.

Premier League proven

Tottenham had a difficult 2024/25 campaign as they spent several months of the campaign without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven due to injuries. The experienced duo returned in time for the Europa League final where Spurs clinched the title with a solitary goal against Manchester United at San Mames. Spurs were still disappointing in the Premier League as they finished 17th.

Spurs have made a better start with the change of manager. Under Frank, the club have picked up 6 points from 3 games, but they will be wary of potential injuries as the season progresses.

The London giants need a solid back-up for Van de Ven due to his injury record. Spurs don’t have the same urgency at left-back with Djed Spence proving a good competitor alongside Udogie.

Ake would be a brilliant signing for Frank’s side and would require no time to adapt, having been a Premier League player for most of his career.

At the price quoted, he would be a bargain signing despite turning 30, but the big question mark is whether he would accept a deputy role behind Van de Ven to start with. He is already facing a similar situation at the Cityzens.

Tottenham held contact to sign Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman

Tottenham held contact to sign Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman - football-talk.co.uk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly held contact with Atalanta over a deal to sign Ademola Lookman this summer, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Thomas Frank was keen on purchasing a new wide forward in the recently concluded summer window following Son Heung-min’s move to the MLS.

The Lilywhites were prioritising signing Savinho from Manchester City and made a formal proposal to seal the deal. However, the Citizens eventually managed to keep hold of him.

Following that, Tottenham decided to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain on a loan deal on deadline day. Although he isn’t a specialist winger as he is a centre-forward by trait, he can provide cover on either flank.

Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano states that before signing Kolo Muani, Tottenham were interested in Lookman and even opened talks with La Dea to sign the Nigerian on a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

However, the Italian side had no intention of letting him leave on a loan and were only willing to sell him permanently for a fee of around £43m. Inter Milan made the most concrete efforts to sign him earlier this summer and launched a formal proposal.

Lookman to Tottenham

But their offer fell short of La Dea’s valuation, so they didn’t allow his departure. Bayern Munich also launched a loan bid offer, but it was rejected by the Italian side.

Lookman was said to be keen on leaving Gewiss Stadium to take the next step in his career. However, he is now set to continue at Atalanta, and he has been included in their Champions League squad.

Romano said:

“I can tell you that, before going all-in for Randal Kolo Muani, Tottenham considered the possibility of going for Lookman. Different players, of course, one is a winger and one is a striker. But Tottenham wanted to do a similar deal, maybe a loan with a buy option, but Atalanta said forget about that.”

Since joining from RB Leipzig, Lookman has established himself as a talismanic figure for Atalanta in recent years. He is currently at the prime stage of his career and could’ve been a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham had they managed to sign him.

However, Kolo Muani is a highly talented player and should be a very useful acquisition for the North London club.
