What Tottenham are now admitting to themselves about signing Marc Guehi this summer

This summer transfer window will tell us a lot about Tottenham Hotspur and where they’re going as a club.

Spurs have been caught short this season, and, quite simply, they haven’t been good enough.

Fans are getting frustrated, and they’re making their voices heard with protests against Daniel Levy’s running of the club.

Levy has been affected by these protests, and one of the only was he can get fans back on side is by signing some quality players this summer.

Tottenham bid for Marc Guehi towards the end of the summer transfer window, and Spurs could well revisit that move in the summer.

However, according to GiveMeSport, there isn’t much confidence within Spurs that they’ll be able to get this deal done.

How Tottenham rate their chances of signing Marc Guehi

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham do want to sign Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window.

Spurs have also been linked with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. In fact, according to some, Spurs are favourites to sign Eze.

However, Tottenham’s chances of signing Guehi aren’t quite so high.

Indeed, according to this report, Tottenham acknowledge internally that signing Guehi will be difficult, noting that he wasn’t so keen on a move in January either.

Chelsea have been linked to Guehi too, and that move may be more appealing.

Tottenham centre-back options next season

Tottenham don’t feel confident about signing Guehi from Crystal Palace, but they will need a new centre-back.

Indeed, Spurs’ centre-back situation this season has been borderline ridiculous at times, and while Tottenham do have the numbers at the back, they don’t have the reliability.

Kevin Danso, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin should provide enough depth at centre-half, or, so you would think.

Indeed, four centre-backs is an acceptable number of defenders to have, especially with the likes of Archie Gray and Ben Davies able to fill in.

However, as we’ve seen this season, a number of Tottenham’s defensive options are simply too fragile to fully trust as the likes of Van de Ven, Romero and Dragusin have missed key periods of this season.

Sebastien Bassong names the Tottenham player who he thinks is really underrated

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t had the easiest of seasons.

Indeed, Spurs sit in the bottom-half of the Premier League table, and they’re also out of both domestic cup competitions at the moment.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom at Tottenham right now.

Spurs have had some bright moments this season, and some of their players have performed well this term.

Dejan Kulusevski has been Tottenham’s best player this season, while Dominic Solanke has had a decent enough debut season.

Speaking on Inside Spurs, Sebastien Bassong has been discussing Solanke’s start to life at Tottenham, and he says that he does rate the striker, claiming that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a player for the space he creates.

Dominic Solanke is underrated

Bassong shared his verdict on Solanke as a player.

The pundit says that he does rate him a lot, believing that he is underrated in terms of how he moves and how that helps the team overall.

“For me, I rate him, I rate the player. I would have loved to play with him, he’s a focal point and he can do a lot and and off the ball,” Bassong said.

“He doesn’t get the credit he deserves for the space he creates for other players. He’s technically good, he can hold the ball up and that’s so important for a centre-forward. The runs he makes are different from Mathys Tel, that’s why I think it’s been difficult for Mathys, he comes with big energy, but it’s a different level.”

Dominic Solanke stats for Tottenham

Bassong says he’s a fan of Solanke, but it has been an up-and-down debut season for the striker at Spurs.

Indeed, while Solanke has earned praise at times, his goalscoring record this season hasn’t been great.

Seven goals in 18 league games isn’t a stellar record, not for a £65m player at least.

Of course, Spurs have been disjointed this season due to a number of injury problems, but they have still scored goals at a good rate, but, strangely, Solanke hasn’t been the man hitting the net with the most regularity.

Solanke netted 19 league goals last season with Bournemouth, and while injuries have hampered him this season, his scoring rate has decreased this term.

As Bassong says, there’s more to Solanke’s game than just goals, but, ultimately, strikers are judged one their ability to put the ball in the net, and that’s where Solanke needs to improve if he’s to justify his pricetag.

TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are in the race for Monaco star Lamine Camara.

Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be busy on the transfer front this summer as they look to strengthen their squads.

Spurs have embarked on a rebuilding mission under Ange Postecoglou, while Liverpool will look to bring in new players after a quiet 2024/25 on the transfer front.

City will also look to rebuild after falling short of expectations this year, and Chelsea will want to kick on after Enzo Maresca steadied the ship.

However, they’re by no means the only clubs keen on Camara, with interest across the continent too, and Monaco’s stance has now been revealed.

Monaco’s stance towards Lamine Camara sale among Premier League and European interest

Monaco’s outstanding prospect Lamine Camara is emerging on the radar of almost every major club in Europe, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been informed.

The 21-year-old was swapped Metz for Monaco last summer and the £12.5million signing already looks a hugely astute capture by the Principality outfit.

TBR Football is told that Camara has emerged on the radar of most of the Premier League’s top clubs.

We can confirm that he has been watched by Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth in recent months.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen have also taken close attention, as have scouts from the Saudi Pro League – who are ready to raid Europe’s top leagues for their best young players in the coming years.

It is understood that Monaco have little desire to lose Camara this summer and will resist any approaches, although their stance could soften depending on the size of any bids that could arrive.

What Lamine Camara could bring to the Premier League

Camara is a product of the famed Dakar-base Generation Foot academy, which has produced star names such as Sadio Mane, Emmanuel Adebayor, Louis Saha and more recently Ismaila Sarr and Pape Matar Sarr.

French side Metz have a partnership with Generation Foot and that is where Camara had his big break in Europe.

The 21-year-old, who has been likened to N’Golo Kante, is considered by many to be Senegal’s best prospect since Sadio Mane.

Scouts have confirmed to TBR Football that Camara is one of the best African prospects they have seen in a long time.

Camara is generally used as a holding midfielder but has the ability to play across midfield.

He has already won 23 caps for Senegal, scoring six goals, and has played nine times alongside Mane, as well as six times alongside Sarr.

All in all, Camara looks like a superstar in the making and, as such, would be able to bring a lot of quality and potential to the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano says £15m player definitely won’t be at Tottenham next season

Tottenham Hotspur have some big decisions to make in the coming months.

Spurs have had a terrible season, they’re in the bottom-half of the Premier League table, and they’re out of both domestic cup competitions.

A number of Tottenham’s players haven’t been good enough this season, and some departures in the summer may be inevitable.

There have been calls for Heung-Min Son to be sold at certain points, while Richarlison has been linked with a move away from Tottenham too.

Timo Werner has been criticised heavily this season, and speaking on Market Madness, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Werner’s future prospects at Tottenham.

According to the journalist, Timo Werner has no future at Spurs, claiming that it’s impossible that Spurs will trigger their option to buy Werner at the end of the season.

Timo Werner won’t be staying at Tottenham

Romano shared what he knows about Werner, claiming that Spurs have already decided that they won’t be signing Werner permanently.

Tottenham have an option to buy Werner for £15m, but they won’t be moving for him this summer.

“Fabrizio, if we stay with New York Red Bulls in particular, there’s been some suggestion that maybe Timo Werner is on their radar. Is there a possibility that he goes to MLS? And a bit broader, is your sense as of now, that it’s unlikely Spurs will trigger that option to buy?” Romano was asked.

“Yeah, I think you’ve been nice with unlikely. I think it’s impossible. From my information, it’s something that they already decided internally,” Romano said.

“It was not a good season for Werner and for Spurs together. So I think it’s in the interest of both parties to try something different next season. So the expectation is for Werner to return to Leipzig and then to try a new experience.

“In terms of MLS and New York, what I was hearing in January when this rumour started for the January window is that there was nothing really concrete into it. Let’s see for the summer. In January was never really close, from what I heard.”

Timo Werner stats for Tottenham

Tottenham aren’t going to sign Werner permanently, and it has to be said that the German hasn’t earned the right to get a permanent move to Spurs.

Indeed, Werner has been massively underwhelming for Tottenham. He’s been poor in front of goal, and he’s not created all that much either.

Tottenham need attackers who are going to make a difference in the final third, and, unfortunately, Werner just isn’t that player.

Spurs have been linked with some other exciting attacking options heading into the summer. After all, Tottenham are favourites to sign Eberechi Eze in this window.

Where Werner ends up playing his football next season remains to be seen, but it looks as though he won’t be playing for Spurs beyond this campaign.

Sebastien Bassong says he had a teammate at Tottenham who was even better than Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur have had their fair share of iconic players over the decades, including a fair few since the turn of the century.

For instance, the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were all Tottenham fan favourites at their peak.

Going back a few more years, the likes of Ledley King, Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe, Dimitar Berbatov and Rafael van der Vaart all lit up White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale was an especially exciting player, going on to become one of the best and most decorated players in history when he moved to Real Madrid.

Sebastien Bassong, who played alongside Bale, rates the Welshman highly – but there’s another former Spurs teammate he thinks was even better than him.

Sebastien Bassong hails Tottenham icon Luka Modric

Recalling his time alongside Bale, Bassong told talkSPORT: “When we played [Inter] Milan I was playing alongside him and Samuel Eto’o came to me and said, ‘Who’s that guy?’

“I said, ‘You’re about to find out, he’s gonna retire Maicon’.

“He could have played by himself on the left, left-back and left wing. He was an introvert, he didn’t talk much.”

However, when it came to the best teammate he had at Spurs, he selected Croatian maestro Luka Modric.

“But…” Bassong continued. “I’ll still go for Luka.

“Luka, we called him Mozart, he’s the best one because he won the Ballon d’Or, at Spurs I’d go for Luka – no doubt,”

“Luka isn’t a talker, he’s an introvert by nature, but when Luka spoke everyone listened.

“Luka doesn’t get angry, but if he does there’s a reason because he’s so good and efficient.

“That’s the kind of person you want to follow, when he says something, give the ball to Luka and he’s going to dictate the game.”

Bassong then recalled an anecdote in which Modric proved just how skilful he is.

“One day I had the ball and he came square to me and I didn’t give him the ball because there were two players on his back,” recalled Bassong.

“He came to me and said, ‘Bass, give me the ball’. I said, ‘Yeah but…’ He said, ‘Just give me the ball!’

“The next time I gave him the ball and he did something amazing, dropped his shoulder and went past two players, out to the right then a Crouchy [Peter Crouch] goal.

“He came back to me and said, ‘What did I tell you, give me the ball!’ I said, ‘Listen boss, from now on I’ll give you the ball!’

“He was a leader, he was the boss, he was a captain and someone you want to follow.”

How Modric fared at Tottenham

To this day, Modric remains one of the best signings Daniel Levy has made at Spurs.

Tottenham paid £16.5million for him, got four great seasons out of him, and then almost doubled their profit when they sold him to Real Madrid for £30million.

Under Harry Redknapp, Modric helped Spurs to become the first side in the club’s history to qualify for the Champions League.

Now 39, Modric is still starring for Real Madrid, where he has won a multitude of trophies including six Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles.

Archie Gray says Tottenham have a ‘world-class’ player who’s ‘one of the nicest guys’ he’s ever met

Tottenham Hotspur are in a period of transition as Ange Postecoglou looks to rebuild his squad with young talents for the future.

The likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have all joined Tottenham in recent years and look set to develop with the club.

In addition, Postecoglou has been giving chances to academy talents such as Mikey Moore, Jamie Donley and Will Lankshear.

Gray, one of the most high-profile youngsters to join Tottenham, has now spoken about a number of his peers who welcomed him at the club.

One player in particular “always sat down and had breakfast” with Gray, who he described as “one of the nicest guys” he’s ever met.

Archie Gray says Tottenham captain Son Heung-min is ‘one of the nicest guys’ he’s ever met

Gray had plenty of kind words to say about Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, who really went out of his way to make him feel welcome at his new club.

“He’s definitely a world-class player and as a person, he’s probably one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met,” Gray said in an interview with ESPN.

“Ever since I first moved to the club, he always sat down and had breakfast with me every morning.

“Which, for a new player at the club – you look at players like Sonny, Madders [James Maddison], all of them in the squad to be fair – you wouldn’t really expect them to go out of their way to speak to the new 18-year-old who’s just come from a Championship club.

“To be fair to them, they’ve helped me settle in really well and everyone has been amazing with me.”

What’s the latest on Son Heung-min’s future?

Despite Son now being contracted to Tottenham until 2026, his mixed form this season has left question marks as to whether he could still leave in the summer.

Spurs appear to be well prepared for Son’s eventual departure with Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore and Yang Min-hyeok all potential successors on the left wing.

However, it has been reported that Postecoglou is not planning for Son’s departure, and he looks set to stay for one more season at least.

Son is such a key figure for Spurs, both on the pitch and behind the scenes, so him staying would be of great benefit for the club.

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek sends message to Tottenham in wake of win over Leicester

There’s no love lost between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, two London clubs that have a pretty strong rivalry.

While Tottenham’s main rivals are fellow North Londoners Arsenal and West Ham are at loggerheads with Millwall, games between Spurs and the Hammers tend to be fierce affairs.

For instance, the last game between Tottenham and West Ham saw Mohammed Kudus sent off for raising his hands to both Micky van de Ven and Pape Sarr.

Kudus received a five-match ban for the incident in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which Spurs won 4-1.

In addition, Tottenham and West Ham are both around the same place in the Premier League table.

Spurs currently sit 13th in the standings, while West Ham are 15th, though they’re now level on points after their 2-0 win over Leicester City on Thursday night.

Tomas Soucek, who scored in the win over the Foxes, spoke about Tottenham in his post-match interview.

Tomas Soucek says West Ham ‘want to be better’ than Tottenham

Soucek was interviewed by TNT Sports after the match, in which he spoke about a number of subjects including Graham Potter’s impact at the club.

After praising the new West Ham manager, Soucek said his team’s hope is to finish as high as possible and challenge the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United around them.

Soucek noted how West Ham fans saw the Tottenham fixture as a “big derby” and said he wants the Hammers to be “better than them”.

“It’s tough to have this big impact in the half of the season but I think in these last two games what we showed we showed, good spirit, good team effort,” the birthday boy said, as transcribed by BBC Sport.

“I could see in the first half it was a very good performance, in the second we did a few mistakes but still we won 2-0 and it was a great result.

“I think that even this can help our manager believe in what were doing and we are all so grateful for him.

“We know that the season is tough, this season we just want to stay as high as possible. We know we can challenge some big teams.

“Manchester United, Tottenham are around us. Even for West Ham fans it’s a big derby with Tottenham so we want to be better than them.”

What West Ham icon Mark Noble has said about Tottenham rivalry

West Ham legend Mark Noble, now the club’s director of football, spoke to TNT Sports in 2024 about the club’s rivalry with Tottenham.

“I don’t think Arsenal were a massive rival, they were winning titles and all that. There was just something with Spurs that made it such a big rivalry,” said Noble.

“I loved the rivalry, I loved playing in those games. I remember saying to the boys many times, ‘listen, you don’t need a team talk for these games. It is what it is, we’ve got to try and win’.

“I was brought up as a West Ham fan and being around loads of West Ham fans myself, they always ingrained in me that ‘we’ve always got to beat Spurs’.”

Noble also recalled a disagreement in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium visitors’ changing room after West Ham gave Spurs their first defeat at their new stadium in April 2019.

“I’ve come in and done the press, and the players wanted to take a photo together and I’m like ‘not a chance are we having a photo here’, because I believed that we should expect to beat Spurs,” Noble said.

“It was probably a little bit of ego because I didn’t want a photo to come out of us just because we beat Spurs 1-0. For me that wasn’t good enough, I needed to go on and be better as a club than that.”

QIA stance on Tottenham takeover clear as Daniel Levy proposes ‘lucrative contract’ with Qatari investors

Description

Qatari money is everywhere in London – and the Tottenham Hotspur could be the Gulf state’s latest enclave in the capital, with Daniel Levy and ENIC looking for new investment.

Spurs’ search for a new equity partner is taking place against a backdrop of the club’s worst season on the pitch in 20 years, when Levy and Joe Lewis had only just taken over.

Last night’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City leaves them 13th in the Premier League table, with their only realistic route to European football next season now the Europa League.

Triumph in that competition would represent Tottenham’s first silverware since 2008 and only the second major trophy in the ENIC era.

And yet, the club’s enterprise value has gone stratospheric under the regime. The owners paid less than £50m to take full control the club from Alan Sugar. Now, Levy values Spurs at £3.75bn.

After Sugar had sold the club, he compared Premier League cash to ‘prune juice – in one end out of the other. That is not the case at Tottenham, whose balance sheet is among the very best in world football.

However, the very reasons that the financials are so strong are the same that fans insist are holding the North Londoners back on the pitch.

Spurs are fixated on commercial income, have the lowest wages-to-turnover ratio in the top flight, and their stadium is geared towards day trippers who spend more than bedrock fans.

The accusation from the terraces is that Spurs is a business with a football club attached. The sport itself is secondary.

The possibility of Levy launching Europe’s first NFL franchise at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is case in point, though it also demonstrates just how far their ‘brand’ has come under Levy.

The quantum leap financially was the move to the new stadium, yes, but ENIC’s £3.75bn valuation isn’t based just on bricks and mortar.

Levy understands the value of IP, monetises the Tottenham brand extraordinarily well, and from ENIC’s perspective more than justifies his enormous salary.

Tottenham’s commercial strategy is ultra sophisticated – probably the best in the world in a highly competitive industry. Revenue has nearly tripled since their last season at White Hart Lane.

Why, then, have the owners been unable to find a buyer despite the club having been on the market – either for a full or partial takeover – for several years?

Some believe Levy’s appraisal is simply too high, though not Liverpool University football finance lecturer and industry insider Kieran Maguire, who told TBR Football last year that £3.75bn is fair.

“Chelsea was £2.5bn and they were a distressed asset. If you are looking at Chelsea and Spurs, it’s a bit like if you’re buying a house.

“If I’m looking at two houses side by side and one needs a new kitchen, the windows done etc., whereas the other one has been fully refurbished by the owner, that second property looks more attractive.

“For Spurs, the infrastructure commitment has already been undertaken by the owners, both in terms of the stadium and the training facilities.“

Another school of thought is that Premier League club value is a bubble, and a bubble bursts when the price surpasses its inherent value.

Spurs hasn’t yielded a penny to Levy yet besides his salary, while ENIC’s payday will only come when the club is sold. It’s a capital appreciation model, not one that skims profits off the top.

Selling a club basically relies on the next guy thinking he’s smarter than you and can make more money from the business. But where is the value?

Taking dividends is taboo in football. Manchester United’s Glazer family are the only Premier League owners who do it, and even they have relented recently.

But at some point in the chain, football needs to normalise this strategy in order to be financially sustainable. That isn’t the case at present and football has an exit problem as a result.

Alternatively, owners are relying on dumb money in the market or, as we’re seeing at Spurs, the continued interest of sovereign wealth.

For Gulf states with practically limitless petrodollars to spend, a football club is a trophy asset, a loss leader and a vehicle for political and economic integration rolled into one.

Tottenham could be the next club to get the sovereign wealth treatment – but there are a number of hurdles to jump before they get there.

Qatar Investment Authority not interested in Spurs; Daniel Levy’s deal structure explained

In 2023, the Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was in a battle to take over Manchester United. He lost, with the Glazers pivoting to a minority sale to Sir Jim Ratcliffe instead.

Jassim, whose investment would have been made through the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the state’s sovereign wealth fund, was subsequently linked with Spurs.

A separate entity, Qatar Sports Investment (QSI), has also reportedly held talks with Levy, although their ownership of Paris Saint-Germain would complicate things.

Now, Bloomberg is reporting that QIA have previously held talks with Spurs regarding a deal but are not currently interested. The article from David Hellier does not rule out a move from QSI, however.

Furthermore, it is said that Levy wants a ‘lucrative contract’ to remain in charge of the club as chairman.

Private equity funds and US billionaires are also believed to have held discussions with Levy, but ambiguity around the management structure and ENIC’s valuation has seen talks fail.

Private equity firms now have full control over Chelsea and Wolves, while 10 Premier League clubs – including Liverpool and Manchester City – have minority investment from the PE sphere.

Todd Boehly, who is the chairman of private equity firm Eldridge Industries, is also known to have spoken with Levy about investment in Spurs before taking over at Chelsea alongside Clearlake Capital.

TBR Football understands that MSP Sports Capital, another PE firm, has also previously conducted due diligence around Spurs.

How much are Tottenham really worth to ENIC?

Most analysts place Spurs’ enterprise value around the £3bn mark, but the pool of investors who have both the money and the inclination to pay that much is vanishingly small.

That is why sovereign wealth funds, who aren’t particularly fussed about generating a financial return on investment in football, are considered the dream ticket for many fans and owners looking for an out.

There is interest in Tottenham but seemingly not at the price Levy wants, and his intransigence could hurt the club going forward, with sustained success on the pitch a remote possibility at present.

Amanda Staveley, formerly of Newcastle United and an expert in Middle Eastern finance, has also been linked with a £500m investment in Spurs.

But she has her eyes on other targets too and has said she wants an active role in the club she buys, which might not be realistic at Tottenham, where Daniel Levy is omniscient.

It seems likely that if the North London club is to attract investors with deep pockets, Levy may need to be more flexible with his valuation.

A phased takeover – i.e., a minority investment with a view to a full buyout – has also been mooted, although how workable that is remains to be seen.

Tottenham are the most likely team to sign £68m player this summer

Description

Tottenham Hotspur need to have a good summer transfer window.

Indeed, this season hasn’t gone to plan for Spurs, and they need more reinforcements in the summer in order to move up the Premier League table.

Tottenham have been looking at a few interesting players in recent times.

Tottenham could sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis after inserting a clause in the deal to sell Giovani Lo Celso last summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham bid for Marc Guehi towards the end of the January transfer window.

Spurs’ bid for Guehi made headines, but Spurs could be in for another Crystal Palace player in the summer.

Indeed, according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Market Madness, Tottenham are currently the team with the most concrete interest in Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham most likely team to sign Eberechi Eze

Jacobs shared what he knows about Eze and his future.

The journalist says that the England international will not be headed to Chelsea this summer, and that Spurs are the team most concretely interested in the midfielder.

“Yeah, I have a few little things to tell you about Eberechi Eze. So it’s no for Chelsea. That’s the first thing,” Jacobs said.

“I know we referenced that at the beginning of the show. But there’s two clubs in particular to watch, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. And I can add a third outside of the Premier League, which is Napoli.

“And right now of those three, Tottenham are the most concrete. And Eberechi Eze is very open, if not, it’d be his preference to stay in London. So that could give Spurs a little bit of an advantage.”

“I don’t think it will be a complete deal breaker, but he likes the idea of maybe leaving Palace, but still being able to stay in London. And that could open the door for Tottenham. Now this summer, there is a release clause at 68 million pounds, which will come back into force.”

How Eberechi Eze could emulate Harry Kane at Tottenham

Eze would be an incredible signing for Tottenham.

The Crystal Palace star has been lighting up the Premier League for a long time now, and he’d make a great addition to this exciting Tottenham attack.

However, what’s even sweeter is that Spurs would be getting one over Arsenal if they signed Eze.

Indeed, Arsenal released Eze at a young age, and now, he could become a star at Spurs.

Eze was hurt by his Arsenal release, but he could make up for that by joining their rivals.

“Getting released by Arsenal, it was obviously the first time I’d been let go or anything like that, so it was like ‘what are we going to do now?’ That was the biggest scare, the next thing was the confidence hit it takes as a child, all your friends are there getting their contracts, but you’re one of the only ones who was let go,” Eze said about leaving Arsenal.

Of course, Eze isn’t the first player to be released by Arsenal to become a star, as Tottenham know very well.

Harry Kane was in a similar situation as a young player before he became a legend at Tottenham, and who knows? Perhaps Eze could emulate Kane in that way if he headed to Spurs.

Paul Robinson seriously annoyed by bid Daniel Levy made for Premier League player in January at Tottenham

Submitted by daniel on

In total, Tottenham Hotspur officially made four signings in the January window, as well as welcoming Dane Scarlett back from his loan at Oxford United.

Yang Min-hyeok was the first to arrive, a deal that Tottenham agreed in the summer, and the South Korean’s arrival was then followed by Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

Min-hyeok is already impressing on loan at QPR and the other three signings have regularly featured in Ange Postecgolou’s starting eleven.

In fact, Postecoglou thinks Tel needs a rest given just how much he’s already played for Spurs this season in comparison to his limited minutes at Bayern Munich prior.

However, Spurs didn’t land all of their January targets and Tottenham failed with a bid for Marc Guehi who remained at Crystal Palace.

Paul Robinson takes aim at Daniel Levy after failed Marc Guehi bid

Since and throughout January, Tottenham fans have protested against Daniel Levy for his lack of footballing ambition.

And when speaking on Stadium Astro’s coverage prior to Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, former Spurs player Paul Robinson seemed to agree.

The goalkeeper, who made 137 appearances for Tottenham, took aim at Daniel Levy who he worked under, saying he’s failed to back several managers including Postecoglou.

Speaking about Spurs fans being unhappy, Robinson said: “It’s been a long time now, you know, fingers are being pointed at Daniel Levy.

“I think recruitment wise, you look at the players they’ve got, the injury problems they’ve had this season have been well-documented – the players Ange hasn’t had at his disposal.

“So then we get to January, it’s nothing new, the window opens the first of January, we know we’re short in certain areas – go and get the players.

“As soon as the window opens, go and give the manager the players that he needs.

“So you take it two or three years, Spurs fans want trophies, this place craves trophies, he [Levy] goes and gets win-now managers.

“He goes and gets Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho – both of them will say that they weren’t backed with win-now players.

“So now, Ange Postecoglou, they’ve stuck with the manager, they want to see him through with his philosophy, with the way that he plays.

“What summed it up for me was the bid that they allegedly put in for Marc Guehi at the end of the January window.

“So if you want a player of that quality that’s got 18-months left on his deal, you go to Crystal Palace as soon as the window opens – you don’t put a bid in, you ask how much they want for him and then you either pay it or you don’t.

“And that’s where they’ve fallen down numerous times for me, in backing the manager with the squad depth and players that he needs.”

Tottenham can’t fail Ange Postecoglou like past managers

Interestingly, Pep Guardiola praised Tottenham’s squad depth after his Man City side beat their hosts in the Premier League.

Perhaps some will perceive that Levy did back his manager last month, making three new significant signings.

However, many Spurs fans feel as if sufficient ambition still hasn’t been shown by the level of player the club are targeting.

Tottenham are in an excellent financial position thanks to Levy’s work, but a lot of fans in N17 are unhappy with the perceived sacrifices that have been caused on the pitch.

Unless they win the Europa League this season it’ll be another trophyless campaign in north London, and perhaps one with very little progress made.
