Tottenham Hotspur’s poor run continues after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Glasgow Rangers in Thursday’s Europa League clash at Ibrox.

Spurs struggled in the first half as Rangers sought to take the game to the visitors, who lacked energy in the opening 45 minutes.

Tottenham were then punished shortly after the restart as James Tavernier crossed for Hamza Igamane to slam home past Fraser Forster.

However, Spurs upped the ante as the second half wore on and found the equaliser on 75 minutes.

Substitute Dejan Kulusevski slotted home after good work from Dominic Solanke and James Maddison to split the Rangers defence open.

Neither side could find a winner, though Forster pulled off a superb late save from Cyriel Dessers, who later found the back of the net but was offside.

Speaking after the game, Kulusevski shared how the game went and how he felt playing at Rangers, using one word to describe Ibrox.

Dejan Kulusevski hails ‘beautiful’ Ibrox after Tottenham draw at Rangers

Kulusevski, speaking to TNT Sports, admitted that Rangers played very well, while Spurs were below par.

He also described Ibrox as a “beautiful” stadium and acknowledged how the Gers supporters helped their team out a lot.

“I think Rangers played very well,” said Kulusevski, who played against Rangers for the first time in his career.

“We struggled a bit and in the end 1-1, it is what it is. We didn’t play well enough to win the game.

“Rangers did a perfect game, with the stadium, it’s a beautiful stadium. Fans were helping them a lot.”

Despite Tottenham’s current struggles, the Spurs players are still firmly behind manager Ange Postecoglou.

How the media rated Kulusevski display against Rangers

The Evening Standard gave Kulusevski a rating of 7 out of 10 for his efforts after coming on against Rangers.

‘Underlined his importance again with a crucial equaliser,’ they wrote. ‘Added some much-needed fight and thrust to a limp Spurs performance.’

Likewise, football.london gave Kulusevski a score of 7 out of 10 and wrote: ‘Took a while to get into the game but fired home the equaliser from Solanke’s pass with a lovely finish.’

Spurs are next in action on Sunday night when they play Southampton away in a Premier League game scheduled to kick off at 7pm GMT.

Meanwhile, Rangers are in Scottish League Cup action on Sunday as they take on arch-rivals Celtic at Hampden Park in a match scheduled for a 3:30pm GMT kick-off.

How Tottenham’s players really feel about Ange Postecoglou right now

Tottenham Hotspur are in a bit of a crisis right now.

Indeed, Spurs are seriously lagging behind in the Premier League. They sit 11th in the table and have failed to win any of their last three games.

There’s an argument to make that Ange Postecoglou should be sacked, but, for now, Daniel Levy is sticking by Postecoglou.

The chairman is backing the manager, but how do the players at the club feel?

According to Jack Pitt-Brooke, speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, there’s a clear sense of how Spurs’ players feel about Postecoglou.

How Tottenham’s players feel about Ange Postecoglou

There’s been speculation about Postecoglou’s future recently, but according to Pitt-Brooke, the squad are still behind their manager.

Indeed, the journalist says that he gets the impression that the Tottenham players are still loyal to Postecoglou and support his style of play.

“My impression at the moment is that the players are pro Postecoglou, they like him, they’re loyal to him, they enjoy his style of play and his way of working. And that often, towards the end of Mourinho or Conte or Pochettino, that was not the case. So that suggests the players are willing to stick with this.”

Tottenham are getting worse under Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham’s players are still behind their manager, but make no mistake about it, something needs to change at Spurs.

Indeed, Tottenham are in decline right now, and they’re in the worst position they’ve been in at this point for a long time.

This is very much sacking territory for a Tottenham manager.

Nuno Espirito Santo had a comparable start back in the 2021/22 season, and he was gone by November.

Somehow, Postecoglou has managed to retain the backing of his players and the Spurs board up until this point, but whether or not that is enough to turn the tide in terms of results on the pitch and save his job remains to be seen.

Postecoglou may not be under any serious internal pressure just yet, but from the outside looking in, the Australian doesn’t look to be in the safest of positions right now.

Former Tottenham and Southampton man shines in Champions League after Spurs let him go for free

Ange Postecoglou, speaking ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League clash with Rangers on Thursday night, almost sounded in disbelief when discussing the ongoing injury crisis facing him.

Spurs have just one senior centre-half at their disposal heading to Ibrox.

With Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Cristian Romero on the sidelines, Postecoglou indicated Archie Gray could start against Rangers in an unfamiliar central defensive role.

Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are unavailable too. And, following Mikey Moore’s coming-of-age performance against AZ Alkmaar earlier in the group stage, the whizzkid winger has been unable to build on his stunning breakthrough due to an illness which has laid him low since early November.

As for Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham’s number one will be out for ‘months’ – to quote Postecoglou – with a fractured ankle.

“I’ve never lost a goalkeeper for this period of time,” Postecoglou sighed as the former Celtic boss prepares to return to Ibrox for the first time since May 2023.

Fortunately, Fraser Forster has been pretty outstanding so far in place of Vicario. Another one-time Tottenham number two, meanwhile, is enjoying quite the renaissance of his own, Paulo Gazzaniga a regular both in La Liga and the Champions League these days.

Former Tottenham and Southampton man Paulo Gazzaniga shines in Champions League

Now, Girona’s Champions League campaign may be ending rather prematurely – Michel’s team have just one point from six matches – but their talismanic shot-stopper can at least look back on his own European campaign with plenty of pride.

Gazzaniga saved three penalties in one game as Girona beat Athletic Bilbao back in October.

There were to be no spot-kick heroics this time around however – Mo Salah scored the winner as Girona lost 1-0 to Liverpool at the Montilivi – but the scoreline could have been a lot more lopsided if it wasn’t for Gazzaniga’s sharp reactions between the sticks.

Only four goalkeepers in this season’s Champions League – including Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and AC Milan’s ‘Magic’ Mike Maignan – have made more saves in the league phase than Gazzaniga.

Six of those 27 came against Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Gazzaniga, who spent two years at Fulham after the Argentine left Tottenham on a free transfer back in 2021, denied Joe Gomez from point-blank range with just three minutes on the clock.

Darwin Nunez twice failed to find a way past a man who fell behind Bernd Leno and Marek Rodak at Craven Cottage, while Trent Alexander-Arnold saw a trademark free-kick batted away near the final whistle.

While Salah may have swept home his match-winning penalty with consummate class, Gazzaniga proved to be unbeatable from open play.

Gazzaniga and Alisson both shine in Champions League clash

“Paulo Gazzaniga [was] very attentive between the posts to prevent goals from Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez,” Spanish publication Mon Esport wrote at full-time, the Girona keeper going toe-to-toe with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker on a night in which the two glovesman stood head and shoulders above the rest.

“Both Gazzaniga and Alisson were fundamental. Gazzaniga had to intervene on a few more occasions to prevent the score from increasing in favour of the visitors.”

Now, Gazzaniga appears to have something in for Liverpool.

Back in October 2019, Spurs travelling to a Liverpool side already well clear in the Premier League title race without regular number one Hugo Lloris, were forced to hand the seldom-seen Gazzaniga only his seventh top-flight appearance for the North London outfit.

They needn’t have worried. A man who started his English football career with Southampton pulled off 12 saves in a narrow 2-1 defeat. The most by any Premier League goalkeeper since David de Gea’s iconic performance against Arsenal three years earlier.

So, after his latest Liverpool masterclass, if the Reds faithful never see Gazzaniga again, that will only be too soon.

Tottenham want to recall £3M centre-back from his loan as injury crisis hits

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to bring back one of their stars who has been impressing out on loan amid their injury crisis.

Ange Postecoglou has just one fit available centre-back with Radu Dragusin his only remaining option. Tottenham have lost Micky van de Ven to another hamstring injury, Cristian Romero has suffered a new quad injury and Ben Davies is also out with a hamstring issue.

The North London club are going to have to take action in January and one of their plans is to bring back one of their talented youngsters from his loan spell.

Tottenham want to recall Ashley Phillips from Stoke

Tottenham are considering recalling Ashley Phillips from his loan spell at Stoke City, according to Evening Standard. Spurs have the option to bring him back to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from the start of the New Year.

Postecoglou will have to play Archie Gray at centre-back having just lost three of his four options for this position. The 19-year-old is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham having signed back in 2023 from Blackburn for a fee of just £3 million.

The defender had a successful spell on loan at Plymouth last campaign and helped them to stay in the Championship. Now, he is currently on loan at Stoke and has been impressing in the Midlands, but that spell could be brought to an end in January.

How has Ashley Phillips been doing on loan at Stoke?

Following a slow start to life at Stoke, Phillips has quickly become a key part of Narcis Pelach’s team and has started in all nine of their last Championship matches. During that time, results have been rather mixed for the Potters having won two, lost four and drawn three, but the young defender has still managed to impress.

One area in which the teenager has excelled is his ability on the ball. Phillips had been making a name for himself in the Championship as a ball-playing centre-back, which is something Postecoglou’s team desperately need.

Troy Deeney says ‘unbelievable’ Man Utd attacker would really fit in at Tottenham

Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future appears to be up in the air right now.

Manchester United haven’t made a decision on selling Rashford just yet, but there are murmurs that the attacker could be on the move at some point.

So, if Rashford is to leave, where could he end up?

PSG have monitored Rashford for a long time, but, as with any English player, a move within the Premier League may be more likely.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Troy Deeney has been discussing Rashford’s options, and the pundit believes the attacker would suit Tottenham Hotspur, but for all the wrong reasons.

Marcus Rashford would suit Tottenham

Deeney shared his verdict on where Rashford should go next.

The pundit says that Rashford would suit Tottenham because there aren’t the same expectations at Spurs there are at other top clubs.

“Unai Emery isn’t putting up with him. Spurs? Nastily he would probably suit Spurs because there is no expectation on Spurs. The players who go there aren’t expected to win the league are they? I think he has an application problem,” Deeney said.

Why Marcus Rashford wouldn’t suit Arsenal

Deeney didn’t just share his verdict on Rashford going to Tottenham.

Indeed, the pundit also spoke about the idea of Rashford moving to Arsenal.

Joe Cole believes Rashford would be a great signing for Arsenal, but Deeney has the opposite view.

Deeney believes that there’s way too much baggage attached to Rashford for him to be a success at Arsenal.

“I just don’t think he would fit into anyone’s environment. I don’t think Arsenal would put up with any of his nonsense, and I don’t think he’d go there and fall back in line, he’s been pandered too for far too long,” Deeney said.

Rashford’s professionalism has been questioned at times at Manchester United, and Mikel Arteta doesn’t stand for any of that – hence why he released Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

At his best, Rashford is an ‘unbelievable’ player, but it’s been a little while since we’ve seen the attacker bring his best form to Manchester United or England.

If Rashford is to leave United, he needs to choose his next club wisely.

‘Probably’: Ange Postecoglou confirms who’s set to partner Radu Dragusin at centre-back for Tottenham now

Ange Postecoglou is going to have to get creative after being left with Radu Dragusin as his only fit remaining central defender.

Postecoglou admitted he is facing the worst injury crisis of his 28-year career in management. The Australian head coach has just lost Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven to injury once again as the duo suffered new issues against Chelsea.

Dragusin is now the North London club’s only fit centre-back with Ben Davies also out with a hamstring injury. Ahead of Spurs’ clash with Rangers, Postecoglou has revealed who is the most likely player to partner the 22-year-old.

Postecoglou reveals Gray will replace Van de Ven and Romero

Ange Postecoglou claims that Archie Gray is set to partner Radu Dragusin as Tottenham’s injury crisis continues to get worse. Gray has filled several different roles under Postecoglou having played midfield, left-back, right-back and centre-back.

The former Leeds star now looks set for a period playing in central defence with Van de Ven expected to be out for two to three weeks and Romero sidelined for around six weeks. The 18-year-old started against Ferencvarosi at centre-back and filled that role for small cameos against Bournemouth and Chelsea.

Postecoglou told the media: “I have to get creative. I think Archie’s probably the one for us at the moment that we need to try and get to fill in there. He’s done right back, left back for us. Had to play at centre-back a little bit this year, he did during the pre-season.

“With him and Radu, they’re the two main sort of defenders. We’ve still got five or six games to navigate, so we may have to get creative at some point and deal with it in a different way.”

Tottenham’s shortage of centre-back will leave them regretting their decision not to have signed one last summer and will only reinforce their desire to land one next month.

Who are Tottenham’s other centre-back options?

Postecoglou has just two alternatives to Gray with Yves Bissouma being one, but given his recent performances, that doesn’t seem like a good idea. The midfielder gave away a penalty against Chelsea and the booking he received means he is now suspended in the Premier League.

The Australian coach could be brave and use the talented Alfie Dorrington. The 19-year-old’s development has been hampered by two bad hamstring injuries just when he looked on course for first-team opportunities.

Dorrington played a key role in helping Tottenham Under-21 to win the Premier League 2 last season and was beginning to catch the eye of Postecoglou. Hopefully, the teenager can recapture his form over the coming months and work his way into the manager’s plans.

Ange Postecoglou reveals if Cristian Romero is actually set for punishment after slamming Tottenham’s spending

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero has recently been in the headlines.

Cristian Romero was critical of Tottenham, urging them to imitate clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in terms of how well consistently they invest into signing new players every season.

The Spurs colossus said via BBC Sport: “Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn’t do well, strengthens again, and now they’re seeing results. Those are the things to imitate.”

“You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they [the board] realise it.”

The Tottenham defender claimed that due to the club’s lack of ambition in the transfer market, they are stuck in a vicious cycle where there is little to no stability due to constantly offloading coaches and players.

“The last few years, it’s always the same, first, the players, then the coaching staff changes and it’s always the same people responsible.”

“Hopefully, they realise who the true responsible ones are and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year.”

So far, Romero does not have much to fear about regarding the repetitiveness surrounding Spurs as Ange Postecoglou’s job at Tottenham is safe, as per a revelation on Friday.

In his latest press conference ahead of the North London side’s clash against Rangers, Postecoglou confirmed that the World Cup winner will not get punished despite his statement.

The Tottenham boss revealed via HaytersTV: “I just think you deal with these things internally. I know people get really salacious about punishments and stuff or that sort of thing, I think I’m pretty consistent in saying, I don’t think that’s important.”

Ange Postecouglou also disclosed that Romero has apologised for airing out his complaints publicly.

“What’s more important is an understanding of how we should deal with these things and deal with them better and already spoken to Cristian [Romero] about it and like I said, he’s apologised about it, for the way he said it, particularly in the public sense wasn’t the right way to go about things.”

“He is a human being, he got emotional and he expressed probably in the wrong way. He does care, I think it would’ve been easy not to say anything, he does care. But like I said, there’s a way to do things and the way to express yourself and the way he did it wasn’t the right way.”

Romero is currently injured and it seems like now, his focus will shift towards becoming fully-fit once again.

Tottenham sit in 11th place in the Premier League table, having already lost seven games this season.

Spurs’ collapse from being two goals up against Chelsea to eventually losing 4-3 summed up the disappointing season they are having.

Jamie Carragher slammed Romero against Chelsea after backheeling the ball inside his own box, which he felt lead to his injury.

Postecoglou agrees with Romero that Tottenham should aspire to be like Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea

During his press conference, where Ange Postecoglou agreed with Romero is that Tottenham should aspire to be as successful as Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea season upon season.

The former Celtic boss initially said: “Look, it depends kind of on, you know in what respect I think. We know there are things we can compete, I don’t think it’s, like I said, I don’t think it’s just about finances.”

“Yes, finances, where the club sits, we kind of know there’s a gap but not between just us and most clubs and some of those clubs. But within that context, I don’t think it doesn’t mean you can’t be competitive in your own way.”

“I think what Cristian [Romero] was kind of talking about and it’s kind of what I believe as well is we should aim to think like those clubs and try to be successful every year.”

Tottenham fans will be content with the fact that the controversy surrounding Romero’s comments seems to have died down after Ange Postecoglou’s reaction to it.

Spurs supporters will hope that the Argentine is back on the pitch soon enough and is ready to help the club turn their stagnating campaign around.

‘Exceptional’ La Liga defender is going to sign for Tottenham in January

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be active in the January transfer window.

Spurs need all the help they can get. The North Londoners have won just once in their last seven games in all competitions, and things are not looking great.

Tottenham are currently 11th in the Premier League table and ninth in the Europa League standings. Their squad looks really thin now because of injuries, and Ange Postecoglou has to strengthen his side in the winter window.

Now, a report has claimed that Tottenham have wrapped up a deal to sign a player from La Liga.

Tottenham are going to sign Omar Alderete in January

Tottenham have had a lot of problems in defence this season.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have had injury troubles, while Ben Davies suffered a hamstring problem as well not too long ago.

That has forced Spurs to rush defenders back from injury and use players like Archie Gray out of position, which hasn’t been ideal at all.

Tottenham need a new defender in the January transfer window, and Antena2 have boldly claimed that Omar Alderete of Getafe is joining Spurs.

The report claims that the 27-year-old will be the second Paraguayan to move to the Premier League in January – Diego Gomez is the other one and he is joining Brighton and Hove Albion.

Alderete, a 22-cap Paraguay international, is into his second season at Getafe and is one of their most important players.

But, if the report is to be believed, he will be leaving the Spanish club after just 18 months to join Tottenham.

Who is Tottenham-linked Omar Alderete?

Alderete is a 27-year-old Paraguayan who mostly plays as a centre-half.

The defender started his career at Cerro Porteno in his home country before having spells in Argentina, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

Dung describes Alderete as a player with a ‘strong defensive presence and exceptional skill’. He is incredibly versatile and can play as a centre-half, left-back and also in midfield if required.

If Tottenham do sign Alderete, he will be able to provide cover for both Van de Ven and Destiny Udogie, who are both under a lot of pressure to play every game right now.

It remains to be seen how much he will cost Spurs if they sign him in January.

When Micky van de Ven could now be back for Tottenham after suspected hamstring injury reoccurrence

Tottenham Hotspur are currently in the midst of an injury crisis that is affecting the club on the results front.

Spurs haven’t won in four games and have lost their last two Premier League matches to leave them 11th in the table.

However, Tottenham remain in a good position in the Europa League, sitting ninth in the table, but level on points with the three teams above them.

Spurs are now set to take on Scottish Premiership giants Rangers at Ibrox and could leapfrog the Glasgow side in the Europa League table with victory on Thursday.

That said, Tottenham’s job is being made harder due to missing a host of key players, with Micky van de Ven seemingly set for another spell on the sidelines.

Now, journalist Paul O’Keefe has shared what he’s heard about the Dutchman’s injury situation and when he could be back.

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven could be out for ‘maybe two or three weeks’

O’Keefe has taken to X to say he’s heard that Van de Ven has suffered a “reoccurrence of injury” to his hamstring.

The Spurs-leaning reporter said he’s waiting to confirm a definite timeline, but predicted he could be “maybe two or three weeks” on the sidelines.

Van de Ven returned to the Tottenham starting XI against Chelsea at the weekend but pulled up late in the match with a fresh hamstring issue.

If Van de Ven is not back until three weeks from Wednesday, his first game back would be the Premier League fixture against Newcastle until 4 January.

Fellow centre-back Cristian Romero also started for Spurs against Chelsea, but he lasted just 14 minutes before being forced off with a quad injury.

What Ange Postecoglou has said about Van de Ven and Romero injury

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou spoke to the media on Wednesday, where he spoke about the situation with his first-choice centre-backs.

“We’re still getting some clarity around their prognosis,” he told football.london. “But both have picked up injuries that will keep them out again.

When asked whether Van de Ven has suffered the same hamstring injury, Postecoglou said: “It’s the same side.

“Whether it’s the same one, we’ve just got to get clarity on whether it’s exactly the same spot or a new spot.”

How much Daniel Levy has paid himself as Tottenham chairman after Cristian Romero speaks out

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Cristian Romero is far from the first person involved with Tottenham to document their frustrations with Daniel Levy and ENIC, the club’s owners since 2001.

In recent years, there have been thinly veiled digs from the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who criticised the prevailing culture at Spurs in broad terms.

Then there has been less subtle rhetoric from supporters, many of whom have grown weary of what they see as the club’s prioritisation of revenue over success on the pitch.

Since the move to into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019, Spurs’ revenue has almost trebled compared to their last season at White Hart Lane. But still no silverware.

There have been a couple of near misses in that time – the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2019 and League Cup loss to Man City two years later – but not the glory that fans crave.

After one win in their last six matches, albeit an impressive on against Manchester City, their chances of a podium finish in any competition under Ange Postecoglou this season look slim too.

In fact, they are now the same number of points from the bottom of the Premier League table as they are to the top.

Daniel Levy and ENIC, who together control the vast majority of Tottenham’s equity and voting rights, would argue that is not because of a lack of investment.

The accounts show spending on amortisation (how clubs account for transfer fees over time) and wages have indeed risen every season since 2018-19, reaching a combined £360m in the last financial year.

However, the gap between revenue and player costs is growing wider. Spurs’ squad cost is also the lowest of any of the so-called ‘Big Six’ clubs.

What’s more, as a percentage of revenue, Spurs have the lowest squad cost in the whole top flight. In fact, they are complete outlier in this metric.

They spent 66 per cent of revenue on wages and amortisation. Brentford and Brighton are next with 78 per cent, then Arsenal with 80 per cent.

Again, the riposte from Levy and ENIC would be that spending is out of control across the Premier League. Tottenham, they would argue, are one of the only clubs whose business model is sustainable.

They have a point – that much is impossible to deny.

But the reality of modern football, of which Cristian Romero is keenly aware, is that it’s nigh on impossible to compete for silverware without wild spending.

The sovereign wealth funds, private equity titans, and multi-sport empires that dominate the game’s financial ecosystem have made sure of that.

In a Premier League table ordered by the private wealth of club owners, Tottenham are bottom-half.

Premier League owners by net worth

Romero, who is being courted by Real Madrid, suggested after Spurs’ 4-3 defeat to Chelsea last Sunday, in which he went off injured when his side were two goals up, that more investment is needed.

He also alluded to a culture in N17 that, regardless of changes to the player or staff setup, makes success tough to obtain.

What exactly did Cristiano Romero say about ENIC and Daniel Levy?

As quoted by BBC Sport, the World Cup winner told Spanish media: “Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn’t do well, strengthens again, and now they’re seeing results. Those are the things to imitate.

“You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they [the board] realise it.”

“The last few years, it’s always the same – first the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it’s always the same people responsible.

“Hopefully they realise who the true responsible ones are and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year.”

How much does Daniel Levy earn at Tottenham?

Like every other Premier League owner or co-owner, Levy does not take a dividend through his ownership of Tottenham

However, unlike most major shareholders of those clubs, Levy is also Tottenham’s chairman. And he is handsomely rewarded in that position.

Spurs’ accounts since 2001, when Joe Lewis and ENIC took control of the club from Alan Sugar and installed Levy as head of the board, show that Levy has earned £51m in that period.

That figure includes salary and bonuses.

£51m is comfortably the highest of any other Premier League director in that period.

The next closest challenger was Man United, where the best-paid directors on an annual basis since 2001 – probably a combination of David Gill and Ed Woodward – earned £41m over the same timeframe.

Amanda Staveley’s investment plans: Will part-takeover unlock extra funds for Ange Postecoglou?

Many Spurs are praying that salvation is around the corner, with Amanda Staveley looking to invest in Tottenham having raised £500m through her PCP Capital Partners.

Tottenham are actively courting a fresh capital injection which, in Levy’s own words, will be used to “invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects.”

However, it is unlikely that a minority investment will yield a major, sustained increase in the club’s expenditure in the transfer market.

Staveley has already briefed that she hopes her next investment – be that at Spurs or AS Monaco, where she has also been linked – will open up a pathway to full ownership.

But until an outright takeover of the club, the budget made available to Ange Postecoglou and sporting director Johan Lange is unlikely to match their peers in the ‘Big Six’.
