France’s media make ‘dangerous’ Mathys Tel claim after watching Tottenham forward score late winner for U21s - TBR Football
Description

Mathys Tel will be one of several Tottenham Hotspur players aiming to impress new boss Thomas Frank in the coming months.

After making 20 appearances on loan for Tottenham last season, Mathys Tel has agreed to commit his permanent future to Spurs.

Under Ange Postecoglou the 20-year-old showed real signs of promise on the left, but it will be interesting to see how Frank intends to get the best out of the Frenchman.

As well as his ability right now, Tottenham have bought Tel permanently from Bayern Munich owing to his rich potential, the reason the German champions recruited him in the first place.

And if Spurs aren’t able to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Frank’s old club Brentford, perhaps they can make the most of a talented left-footed forward already on their books.

Mathys Tel praised for his serious hard work for France U21s

That being said, Tel played as France’s central striker in their 3-2 win over Denmark at the U21 Championships.

France booked a spot in the semi-finals with their late comeback win over their Danish counterparts on Sunday evening, and it was actually Tel who scored the winner.

On the back of that goal, French outlet Maxifoot shared an interesting verdict on Tel’s ‘dangerous’ performance, celebrating how he didn’t give up when things were looking bleak.

Handing Tel a 6.5/10 rating, which was pretty high in comparison to some of his teammates, they wrote: “The French U21 center-forward had one merit: he didn’t give up!

“Faced with the physical Danish defense, the Tottenham player was generally not found by his teammates.

“However, the former Munich player was dangerous with a close-range shot and then a volley saved by Jungdal.

“He thought he had scored in the second half, but Lepenant was flagged offside by VAR for this action.

“But ultimately, at the end of the match, the ex-Rennais player was the hero with the winning goal from a curling shot. A well-deserved reward for his efforts.”

Wilson Odobert slammed for ‘disappointing’ display for France

Whilst Tel was celebrated as the hard-working hero on Sunday night, it wasn’t such a joyous occasion for Spurs teammate Wilson Odobert, at least in terms of his individual showing.

The same outlet handed Odobert a 3/10 for his efforts, bemoaning a ‘disappointing’ display.

Maxifoot wrote: “A disappointing performance for the Tottenham winger. On the right side, the young talent of the French team was not successful in his individual attempts by multiplying failures.

“Too imprecise, he lost numerous balls and never seemed able to make the difference in the penalty area, with the exception of a long-range shot pushed away by the goalkeeper.”

Description

Jamie Donley has a strong chance of being included in the first team next season, but he is not the only Tottenham Hotspur youngster Thomas Frank should consider.

Tottenham Hotspur are building a rather exciting young project in North London, having produced and signed some very exciting talents.

Thomas Frank has now been appointed to help further the development of their young stars, and he should be very excited by the players now at his disposal.

TBR Football has just revealed that Donley could get minutes under Frank next season, and here are three more youngsters we think he should keep a very close eye on this summer.

Thomas Frank might consider loaning Mikey Moore

One of the big decisions facing Frank is what to do with the very young Mikey Moore who was part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad last season.

TBR Football understands that Tottenham want Moore tied down to a new contract and hope the deal will be in place before his 18th birthday in August.

The 17-year-old scored and assisted en route to Spurs winning the Europa League and collected a winners’ medal in Bilbao.

Moore played 812 minutes last season, although that was limited due to an illness, which saw him miss 14 matches.

The winger is one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from the club’s academy, although there are question marks over what should come next.

Frank must decide whether the teenager would benefit more from being around the first-team squad or being sent on loan to another Premier League club or Championship club.

Luka Vuskovic could make immediate Tottenham impact

Luka Vuskovic is arguably the youngster who could make the biggest impact on Tottenham’s squad next season.

The teenager was outstanding on loan in the Belgian Pro League with Westerlo and proved that he is more than ready for senior level.

The 18-year-old scored an impressive seven times as a central defender, as he showed his incredible ability in the air.

Tottenham are very excited by Vuskovic’s potential, with the youngster having already made 61 senior appearances, featuring for Hajduk Split, Radomiak and Westerlo.

Vuskovic could be another player who could get another loan, however, just like Lucas Bergvall, there are signs that he is ready to make the jump to the Premier League already.

Luca Williams-Barnett could get first-team minutes at Tottenham

Another incredible talent emerging from Spurs’ academy is Luca Williams-Barnett, who has just dominated at Under-18 level for the North London club.

Last season, the 16-year-old scored 19 times and got nine assists in the U18 Premier League, scoring some outrageous goals for the youth team.

Tottenham fans love Williams-Barnett and believe that the young 16-year-old should have got some minutes under Postecoglou last term.

The teenager was included in Spurs’ Europa League squad for games against Galatasaray, AS Roma and Rangers.

Williams-Barnett will surely get his chance over pre-season to impress Frank, and he certainly looks like a player with a massive future in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans are starting to kick into gear with the North London club looking to sign a young player who Jose Mourinho once spoke very highly about.

The Lilywhites are looking to add to Thomas Frank’s squad ahead of their return to playing Champions League football next term.

One big issue which is facing Spurs is their lack of ‘club-trained’ players, therefore, they are eyeing deals for academy stars whom they have previously offloaded.

Tottenham keen to re-sign Dennis Cirkin from Sunderland

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Dennis Cirkin, however, Sunderland want him to sign a new contract, according to The Northern Echo.

TBR Football revealed that Tottenham were keen on re-signing Cirkin back in March and now the Lilywhites are stepping up their pursuit.

The North London club think that the 23-year-old would be great for their European squad as he would count as ‘club-trained’, meanwhile, they also think he has excellent ability to develop.

The Black Cats have just returned to the Premier League, and the youngster played a key role at left-back in helping them secure promotion back to the top-flight.

Cirkin is set to enter the final year of his contract, which leaves the Wearside club having to think about a potential sale this summer.

The young full-back will also have to consider whether to join a Champions League club where he isn’t guaranteed minutes or staying at the Stadium of Light where he is a regular.

TBR Football understands that at this stage, Cirkin is considering his options as he is on England’s radar as an upcoming prospect.

What Jose Mourinho once said about former Tottenham player Dennis Cirkin

Mourinho has previously spoken very highly of the former Tottenham academy star, having said he is a young player with a ‘lot of quality’.

The Portuguese manager was sacked just months before the defender was sold to Sunderland and he never got the chance to play the then-teenager.

Speaking back in 2019, Mourinho told Football.London: “I couldn’t be at the game but I watched on video our youth team playing in the [UEFA Youth League], and we also have [Dennis Cirkin].

“OK, he’s 17, but he’s a kid with a lot of quality, and I look forward to bringing him to train with us, and to help his development.”

Description

One of Thomas Frank’s top Tottenham Hotspur transfer targets is close to rejecting them in favour of a move elsewhere.

Tottenham Hotspur are starting to step up their transfer plans for the summer with new head coach Thomas Frank now in place.

Frank demanded some control at Tottenham during talks over his move from Brentford and he has already made one key transfer recommendation.

However, Spurs’ attempts to sign the player now look set to be unsuccessful and he is now expected to move elsewhere.

Bryan Mbeumo is heading to Manchester United over Tottenham

Sky Sports are reporting that Bryan Mbeumo is heading to Manchester United at this moment in time, despite interest from Tottenham.

Mbeumo, who’s been compared to Mo Salah, has opted for Old Trafford over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what is a big blow for Frank’s transfer plans at Spurs.

TBR Football sources can also confirm that there is acceptance at Spurs that the player is committed to joining Man United. The North London club made their pitch, but were unwilling to match the wages involved.

Frank desperately wanted Mbeumo to join him in making the switch across London, however, that doesn’t look like it will be the case.

Mark McAdam told Sky Sports: “At the moment, it feels like he’s headed to Old Trafford. We know that there were a number of sides that were interested in Bryan Mbeumo. His contract is running down, hence why Manchester United are seeing this as an opportunity.

“We know there’s interest from Tottenham as well, but it looks like he’s heading to Old Trafford. They’re just preparing a second offer which they hope will get Mbeumo.”

Tottenham have already turned to Eberechi Eze over Bryan Mbeumo

TBR Football understands that Frank loves Eberechi Eze and the North London club have started looking at a deal for the Crystal Palace forward.

It has also emerged that Palace are open to Eze’s release clause being paid in instalments which makes a deal easier for Spurs to now do.

The 26-year-old could now quickly become the focus of the Lilywhites’ transfer window as they look to add to their attacking options.

Tottenham have been after Eze for quite some time now, having first held an interest back in 2019, whilst he was playing for Queens Park Rangers.

Description

TBR Football understands that Crystal Palace could be open to accepting Eberechi Eze’s release clause being paid in instalments.

Thomas Frank really likes Eze, and as TBR Football has recently revealed, the attacker is now firmly back on the agenda for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have long been after Eze, having first expressed an interest in him in 2019, whilst he was playing for Queens Park Rangers.

Now, the North London club know exactly what they must do to land his signature, made slightly easier by Crystal Palace’s latest demands for his release clause.

Crystal Palace open to Eberechi Eze’s release clause being paid in instalments

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, understands that Steve Parish is open to Eberechi Eze’s £60m release clause being paid in instalments.

Crystal Palace want around £25 million to £30 million paid up front and then £30 million to £35 million being paid over two instalments.

There is also £8 million to be paid in performance-related bonuses in Eze’s release clause, which clubs must factor in when considering a deal.

The Eagles allowed Michael Olise to join Bayern Munich under similar terms, with the German club paying the Frenchman’s release clause in instalments.

Palace are not desperate to sell the 26-year-old this summer, however, he will be entering the final two years of his contract at the end of the month.

Therefore, to ensure they get a strong guaranteed fee for the attacker, they might need to compromise over how his release clause is paid.

Tottenham might need to sell Son Heung-min to facilitate Eberechi Eze

Tottenham are keen to add to their forward line this summer, but they might need to think about selling a few options before they can add more.

One of those players could be Son Heung-min, who Thomas Frank is willing to sell, as TBR Football has already revealed.

Son and Frank are due to meet over the coming weeks to discuss his future and the Dane is unlikely to stand in his way should he opt to call time on his Spurs career.

TBR Football understands that Son is open to working under Frank and with Champions League football on offer, staying suddenly looks a lot more tempting.

However, the 32-year-old could end up sitting on the bench with the likes of Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and potentially Eze all ahead of him.

What Daniel Levy is doing to keep Cristian Romero at Tottenham, Thomas Frank will be delighted

Thomas Frank will be delighted to know what Daniel Levy is doing to keep Cristian Romero at Tottenham - TBR Football
Description

Daniel Levy is making a strong play to keep Cristian Romero at Tottenham Hotspur beyond this summer’s transfer window.

Romero has been linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid, and the Spanish giants are expected to make a big push to land him this summer.

But Daniel Levy is likely to make things very tricky for the Colchoneros to get one of Diego Simeone’s top targets and here’s how.

Cristian Romero could be priced out of Tottenham departure

Cristian Romero could be priced out of a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Alasdair Gold.

At this stage, the Spurs journalist struggles to see which club will pay what would be required to prise the Argentine defender away from N17.

Simeone has been frequently contacting Romero about making the switch to Atletico Madrid, however, the Spanish club will need to pay up.

Romero proved his importance to Spurs as he won the Man of the Match award for his display against Manchester United.

Gold told Football.London: “With Romero, I remain to be convinced that any club will pay the sort of money required to prise him away from Tottenham. We’ll see.”

TBR Football understands that Levy is offering Romero a new contract, but the 27-year-old does seem to have his heart set on leaving.

But, the issue which he could face is that the Tottenham chairman may well stand firm over his asking price for his vice captain, which could prove tricky for Atletico to match.

Thomas Frank loves Cristian Romero

Thomas Frank is the man who will be tasked with trying to change Romero’s mind about leaving this summer and to get him back on side.

Romero was unhappy about Ange Postecoglou’s sacking and made that clear by posting his farewell message right after the new Danish head coach was announced.

Frank thinks Romero will be ‘crucial’ for his Spurs team next season, and he will be hopeful that the defender can yet be convinced to stay.

The World Cup winner’s departure would be a major blow, not only because of his brilliant defensive abilities, but also due to his importance in Spurs’ build-up play. There aren’t many better defenders on the ball than Romero.

Tottenham think they already have Cristian Romero’s replacement

But, if the defender were to leave, TBR Football sources can reveal that Tottenham believe Kevin Danso could replace Romero.

Tottenham just signed Danso permanently for £21 million in what could prove to be one of the best value signings of the summer.

The Austrian defender was excellent in the Europa League final as he came on to form a back three in the final stages of the match.

He stepped up during Romero’s injury last term and now he could do the same again next season if the defender does leave the North London club.

Thomas Frank could now hand Tottenham's 'incredible left-footed' youngster first-team chances next season - TBR Football
Description

TBR Football understands that one of Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive youngsters returning from a successful loan spell could well be given first-team opportunities under Thomas Frank next season.

Tottenham Hotspur have brought in Thomas Frank to help develop the club’s younger players, along with their already well-experienced stars.

Spurs have an exciting array of young players in their squad, and the Danish head coach will be extremely excited to get the chance to coach some of the finest young talents.

One of these top youngsters is just returning from a big loan spell, and now he could make the leap to playing Premier League football at Spurs next season.

Jamie Donley set to get a chance to impress Thomas Frank

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, understands that Jamie Donley is set to get the chance to impress Thomas Frank during pre-season.

The 20-year-old has just enjoyed a thoroughly successful campaign out on loan at Leyton Orient, who just missed out on promotion.

The midfielder helped them to reach the League One play-off final, where they lost at Wembley to Charlton.

The Tottenham academy graduate netted eight goals and got ten assists in the league, which was more than any other player in the division.

Donley impressed Pep Guardiola as the Manchester City manager hailed him an ‘incredible left-footed player’ as he almost scored from the halfway line.

TBR Football can now reveal that the youngster could well be part of Frank’s first-team squad next season and he will get his chance to impress in pre-season.

Bailey told TBR Football: “There are a few youngsters who I think they will look at. The one youngster I’m hearing at Tottenham to keep an eye on is Jamie Donley.

“Although he was on late, or I think there’s a real feeling amongst some at Spurs that he could really make a step up next season. Don’t rule out him being involved in Frank’s first-team squad next season.

“Everyone thinks he’s going out on loan, and he probably will, but I’m being told don’t rule out Donley getting a look, especially in pre-season. If he does well, there might be an opportunity for him.”

Four more Tottenham youngsters Thomas Frank must assess

Mikey Moore is top of the list of young talents the Dane will need to decide whether to keep or loan this summer.

The 17-year-old was part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad last season, however, he struggled to maintain a solid run of games.

Yang-min Hyeok could be heading out on loan again, as despite showing some flashes of brilliance at QPR, the young South Korean still looked a rather raw talent.

One player who looks ready to make the step up to the first team alongside Donley is Luka Vuskovic, who’s compared himself to Josko Gvardiol.

On loan at Westerlo in Belgium, the young central defender was one of the most impressive teenagers in the league as he netted seven times.

Alfie Devine joined him on loan at Westerlo, and the young attacking midfielder showed much promise, but ultimately, he might end up on loan again next season.

Why Tottenham may have a big ‘problem’ in trying to sign Marc Guehi this summer

Why Tottenham may have a big ‘problem’ in trying to sign Marc Guehi this summer - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have a big summer on the cards as Thomas Frank looks to stamp his mark on the team and in the transfer market.

So far, Spurs have signed one player, taking up their option to buy Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

Tottenham are expected to be busy in strengthening their ranks in the wake of a poor Premier League season and ahead of their Champions League return.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is one of Spurs’ defensive targets – but Alasdair Gold has explained why the Lilywhites may struggle to sign him this summer.

Alasdair Gold says competition and Tottenham’s packed defensive roster could hurt Spurs’ chances of signing Marc Guehi

On Saturday, Gold hosted his latest Tottenham Q&A on football.london, with Spurs fans asking the expert a number of questions relating to the Lilywhites.

One fan asked Gold whether Guehi would feature highly on Tottenham’s wish-list in case Cristian Romero leaves the club.

Gold admitted that, while Tottenham are “long-term admirers” of Guehi, there’s a lot of competition for him from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

In addition, Guehi is said to want regular playing time, and with Tottenham having so many centre-backs on their books, this could pose a problem.

“Spurs have been long-time admirers of Guehi and made an approach in January that was rebuffed by Palace, who also had no time to get in a replacement at that point even if anything had advanced,” said Gold.

“The problem for Spurs is that the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are also among the many clubs interested in Guehi.

“It’s not expected to be easy for anyone to agree a price with Palace, even with just a year left on the England international’s contract.

“Guehi’s priority is believed to be regular playing time wherever he goes and while Spurs can offer Champions League football as well this season, they are currently packed with central defenders in Romero, Van de Ven, Danso, Dragusin, Davies as well as younger players like Vuskovic, Phillips and Dorrington.

“Of course Guehi likely starts if Romero goes and maybe if he doesn’t, and there is the potential that Frank would maybe play with a back three if he didn’t.

“But you would imagine Romero’s future would need to be sorted out first and by that time others may have made their move.”

Guehi, who has been deemed “incredible”, is said to be valued at £50-55million.

How Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish feels about selling Marc Guehi

Guehi has been one of the most highly sought-after defenders over the last few transfer windows, with several clubs attempting to sign him.

And with his contract expiring next summer, this is the last chance Palace have of getting a good fee for him if he doesn’t pen new terms at Selhurst Park.

However, TBR Football sources understand Palace owner Steve Parish will not allow Guehi to be sold for a cut-price deal – even if that means him going for free next summer.

“Marc Guehi has a host of options,” TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey said.

“I am told by sources with knowledge of his situation that to consider any club favourites to get him at this point would be wrong.

“The player has just lifted the FA Cup, Crystal Palace are heading into Europe – there is a real chance he stays at the club this summer.

“Yes, interest is mounting but there is no hurry – he knows the interest is there but any team coming in will need to agree terms with Steve Parish.

“And anyone in football already knows that if you come bargain hunting at Selhurst Park – you are going to go away empty-handed.”

What Diego Simeone is doing ‘almost every day’ at Atletico Madrid to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham

Description

Atletico Madrid are still very keen to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.

The World Cup winner’s future has been up in the air for quite some time now, and he has been heavily linked with a move away from North London.

TBR Football revealed recently that Daniel Levy is ready to offer Romero a big new contract to keep him at the club, but his heart has been set on leaving for a while now.

His dream move is to Spain, and Atletico Madrid would love to sign him in the coming weeks.

How Diego Simeone is trying to convince Cristian Romero to join Atletico Madrid from Tottenham

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the best defensive manager in world football.

The Argentine has done a terrific job at Atleti over the years, and he is still going strong despite being there for over 13 years already.

Simeone publicly admitted recently that he wants to sign Romero from Tottenham. This came after weeks of speculation surrounding the defender’s future.

Now, Spanish journalist Ruben Uria has revealed that Simeone is personally calling Romero ‘almost every day’ to convince him to leave Spurs and join Atletico Madrid.

Uria told El Desmarque: “I know that Cholo calls Cuti Romero almost every day to see if he can convince him.

“They (Tottenham) are going to ask a lot. €58-60 million (£49-51m) for this player, which is a lot of money for a centre back.

“But I don’t know why Atleti would go after him. We’ll see how the summer goes.”

How new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank views Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero absolutely adored Ange Postecoglou, and the feeling was mutual between them.

In fact, right after Thomas Frank was announced as the new Tottenham manager, Romero sent a message to Postecoglou, and Spurs fans saw that as a big hint that he is leaving.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Frank sees Romero as a ‘crucial’ part of his squad for next season, which is why a departure won’t be easy.

Daniel Levy is expected to make it extremely difficult for him to leave, and the Spurs chairman usually wins battles like this.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but if Spurs end up keeping Romero happy at the club, it will give them a big boost for next season.

‘Outstanding’ Tottenham player is set to sign a new contract soon

‘Outstanding’ Tottenham player is set to sign a new contract soon - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have a few behind-the-scenes issues that need resolving in the coming weeks.

Indeed, there are a few players at Spurs who are stuck in uncertain situations and they need to speak with their new manager, Thomas Frank, about their futures.

Cristian Romero’s situation is very unclear right now, while Heung-Min Son could be set to leave.

Meanwhile, there are a few players who are due contract extensions.

Mikey Moore was ‘outstanding’ for Spurs in his breakthrough campaign last season, and according to Alasdair Gold speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Moore should sign a new deal this summer.

Mikey Moore set for new contract

Moore signed a new contract at Tottenham last summer, and he could be set to renew his terms once again.

Gold says that it’s very normal for a player to sign a new deal every year as they progress to first-team level and he expects Moore to get a better deal now after becoming a first-team regular.

“The other ones I think are 2027, Mikey Moore. Mikey Moore I would imagine that will be tied up this summer and we’ll see a new deal for him. When they’re 16,17 or 18 you get these new contracts that kick in anyway and I’m sure they’ll agree to one that reflects a player who has made his Premier League bow now and played 19 times last season,” Gold said.

Tottenham’s upcoming contract decisions

Moore is set for a new contract at Spurs, and there are a few other Tottenham players who may need to open negotiations about a new deal before too long.

Indeed, we’re getting into a crunch period for many Spurs players, and big decisions need to be made.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are heading into the final year of their deals, so talks there may have to start sharpish, while it looks like Heung-Min Son and Ben Davies may be at the end of the line in their Tottenham careers.

Meanwhile, Cristian Romero and Richarlison’s contracts are up in 2027, and both players are at a bit of a crossroads at the moment it must be said.

Daniel Levy and co certainly have plenty of work to do on this front as they look to keep hold of their key players.
