Tottenham and Aston Villa fight for this €14.5M midfielder in latest transfer news
Transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are both seriously interested in signing Parma midfielder Mandela Keita this summer. The Belgian moved to Parma from Royal Antwerp in August 2024 for €13 million plus bonuses, and he’s been a mainstay in the team ever since, putting in over 2,900 minutes across 37 matches this season. Both clubs have had scouts tracking him since February, and that interest has now turned into a real push to get a deal done before the 2026/27 season starts.

Atalanta have also entered the race. Reports from Parma Today suggest they see Keita as the perfect replacement for Éderson, who looks likely to leave Bergamo this summer, with Manchester United currently leading Atlético Madrid in the race for the Brazilian. Tutto Atalanta added that Spurs and Unai Emery’s side are prepared to go head-to-head in a high-stakes bidding war for Keita. While Transfermarkt values him at €18 million, Parma are expected to hold out for at least €25 million before they even consider a sale.
On the pitch, Keita is known for his raw athleticism and defensive work rate. He leads the Parma squad with 2.2 tackles per 90 minutes in Serie A, and reporter Sacha Tavolieri even called him one of the best defensive midfielders in the league back in January. With a contract running until 2028, Parma have plenty of control in any talks. The only real downside is his lack of creative play; he rarely splits a defence open in tight spots, so any team signing him would likely need a more creative playmaker alongside him.
Transfer news: Do Aston Villa actually need Keita more than Tottenham does this summer?
Villa’s lack of depth in the middle was obvious in their recent 2-1 home loss to Tottenham, where Ross Barkley struggled to make an impact. Keita seems like a much more logical option for Villa Park than he does for Spurs. Tottenham already have a crowded midfield with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Conor Gallagher, Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur, Archie Gray, and Yves Bissouma, so their need for him isn’t nearly as urgent.
Transfer news: Emery’s system relies on non-stop pressing and smart positioning, two things Keita excels at. While the Belgian is still working on his creative side, Emery is exactly the kind of manager who can help him develop that part of his game. Ultimately, the move makes perfect sense for Villa, whereas for Tottenham, it feels more like they’re just keeping an eye on an opportunity.
