Will Mohammed Kudus return to action? Tottenham Hotspur - Sports Mole
Description

Fresh from their emphatic victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, Tottenham will be hoping to keep their momentum going when they welcome Manchester United to the capital this Saturday afternoon.

Spurs have won their last four meetings against the Red Devils and they will be determined to continue that trend as they look to shake off last weekend's Premier League defeat to Chelsea.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Tottenham's injury and suspension issues ahead of the game with Man United.

James Maddison

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â ACL

Possible return date:Â Next season

James Maddison picked up a devastating ACL injury during pre-season - one which is likely to keep the player out of action until the end of the current season.

When asked whether there was any chance the 28-year-old could return this term, manager Thomas Frank told Football London: "I think we need to get past Christmas to see how quick he is going. Normally, you would say nine months, as I understand it, without me being a doctor. So, let’s see.”

Dejan Kulusevski

Status:Â Out

Type of injury: Knee injury

Possible return date:Â November 29 (vs. Fulham)

Dejan Kulusevski has been out for over five months after picking up a serious patella injury last May.

According to latest reports, the Swede is just a few weeks away from making his return to action, though he is certainly not in contention to be involved in this weekend's clash with Man United.Â

Dominic Solanke

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Ankle/foot injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Dominic Solanke managed to make two Premier League appearances this season before picking up an ankle injury in late August.

The striker, who is yet to start a competitive game under the new Spurs manager, underwent minor surgery in order to deal with his ongoing injury issue. He could be back as early as the North London derby on November 23.

Ben Davies

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Thigh injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Ben Davies has been involved in four matches this season, and all four came on international duty for Wales. His last such appearance ended on a sour note as he was withdrawn early against Belgium due to a hamstring injury.Â

The initial prognosis was four to five weeks on the sidelines, with Davies looking to get himself fit for the much-anticipated North London derby later this month.

Radu Dragusin

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Knee injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Radu Dragusin has been out of action since January when he picked up a nasty ACL injury during a Europa League fixture.

The Romanian defender has returned to full team training in recent days and is reportedly progressing well as he continues to work on his match fitness.

Yves Bissouma

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Ankle/foot injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Yves Bissouma picked up a nasty injury during the international break in October, with the player being stretchered off during Mali's World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.

The player has since undergone surgery to overcome his ligament injury, and he could return as early as the Arsenal game on November 23.

Archie Gray

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Calf injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Archie Gray has been on the sidelines for the last three games after sustaining an injury in training over a fortnight ago.

The teenage defender is regarded as a fringe player due to his limited minutes on the pitch, but he is expected to be available for selection towards the end of November.

Kota Takai

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Thigh injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Still a bit of an unknown for Tottenham fans, Kota Takai is yet to make an appearance for the club since arriving in the Premier League from Kawasaki Frontale.Â

The 21-year-old has been dealing with a thigh injury since the summer, though Frank revealed in a recent press conference that the player is due to return to full training.Â

Lucas Bergvall

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Head injury

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Just 10 minutes into last weekend's clash against Chelsea, Lucas Bergvall took a ball to the face and was forced to be swapped for Xavi Simons.

According to concussion protocols, Bergvall will have to remain on the sidelines for a minimum of 12 days. This means the player will not be back until after November's international break.

Mohammed Kudus

Status:Â Minor doubt

Type of injury:Â Knock

Possible return date:Â November 8 (vs. Man United)

Mohammed Kudus was not only absent from training on Monday, but he was also sidelined for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Copenhagen due to a knock.

The 25-year-old has been Spurs’ most impressive attacking threat since signing from West Ham over the summer. Luckily for Frank, there is a good chance that the midfielder will be available for selection against Man United.

Real Madrid transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur defender viewed as 'ideal candidate' to strengthen backline

Real Madrid chief views Spurs star as 'ideal candidate' to - Sports Mole
Description

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly identified a Tottenham Hotspur defender as an 'ideal candidate' to strengthen the club's backline.

Los Blancos are currently reeling from losing 1-0 to Liverpool in the fourth League Phase fixture of their Champions League campaign.

However, it was just the second defeat of Xabi Alonso's 15-match reign and Real Madrid hold a five-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.

Despite the general positivity at the Bernabeu, it is anticipated that alterations will be made to the defence during the next summer transfer window.

If reports are to be believed, each of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba will be moving onto pastures new, Alonso left with a significant rebuild in terms of his central-defensive options.

Real Madrid chief targeting Van de Ven signing

According to Fichajes, Spurs centre-back Micky van de Ven has become Real Madrid's focus ahead of the turn of the year.

The Netherlands international scored a wonder goal against Copenhagen on Tuesday night as he ran the length of the pitch before confidently scoring from inside the penalty area.

Regardless of nine goals and two assists coming from his 66 matches in a Spurs shirt, it is the Dutchman's physical attributes that make him an attractive target.

Van de Ven's pace and strength are viewed as invaluable qualities that could bolster Real Madrid's chances of prevailing in high-profile contests.

Spurs are said to value Van de Ven in the region of €100m ((£88.05m), making it questionable whether Real Madrid would go as high as that asking price.

He also holds a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2029, leaving Spurs in a strong position when it comes to retaining his services.

Could Spurs fend off Real Madrid interest?

Players such as Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have left Spurs for Real Madrid in the past, while Van de Ven's defensive teammate Cristian Romero has frequently been linked with the La Liga giants.

Spurs will realistically require Champions League football on a regular basis to have any chance of enticing Van de Ven to extend his contract in the future.

That said, Van de Ven will want to challenge for trophies, and last season's Europa League triumph will need to be the start of something rather than a rarity to keep him happy in North London.

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways on Saturday afternoon when they continue their Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ruben Amorim's side are eighth in the Premier League table, boasting 17 points from their first 10 matches of the season, while Tottenham are sixth, also with 17 points to show from 10 games.

Man United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the corresponding game during the 2024-25 campaign, while they have not managed to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since a 3-0 success in October 2021.

How to watch Tottenham vs. Man United in the UK

TV channels

The Premier League match between Tottenham and Man United in North London will be live on the TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate TV channels.

Viewers in the UK can stream the game if they have purchased the Discovery+ subscription package that includes TNT Sports, while it is also available to stream via the Amazon Prime Video app.

BBC One's Match of the Day show will also be available to watch at 10:50pm on Saturday night, with highlights of every Premier League game from November 8 set to be shown.

Tottenham vs. Man United: What's the story?

Man United saw a three-game winning streak come to an end at Nottingham Forest last Saturday, drawing 2-2 at the City Ground, but it has been a positive run for Amorim's side.

Ten points have been secured from the last 12 available, and Man United are only two points behind second-placed Manchester City, which is remarkable considering their early-season struggles.

Tottenham were poor in the Premier League last time out, losing 1-0 at home to Chelsea, but they did manage to thump Copenhagen 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Spurs have won each of their last four matches against the Red Devils, including last season's Europa League final, so the visitors will have revenge on their mind in this match.

0 Copenhagen: Highlights, man of the match, stats as Xavi Simons stars in Champions League demolition

Super Simons: Spurs trounce Copenhagen in Champions League - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur responded to critics with a 4-0 demolition of Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The hosts' opening goal had an element of fortune about it given Brennan Johnson was able to slide the ball into an empty net after he rounded Copenhagen shot-stopper Dominik Kotarski, who decided to bizarrely rush out of goal.

Randal Kolo Muani should have doubled his side's lead just before half time, but he was unable to convert his close-range header after good work from Xavi Simons.

Spurs managed to find their second of the game quickly after the break through Wilson Odobert, who benefitted significantly from another goalkeeping error after Kotarski lost possession on the edge of his own box.

Tottenham's life may have been made more difficult when Johnson was sent off minutes later, after a VAR intervention led to his dismissal, but Micky van de Ven's solo goal shortly after the hour mark put supporters' minds at ease.

Joao Palhinha netted a fourth for the hosts after Tottenham countered at pace, and the win leaves Spurs in seventh with eight points from four games, whereas Copenhagen end the night in 33rd place with one point.

SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT

Boss Thomas Frank needed his side to respond positively to their dismal attacking performance against Chelsea last weekend, and they certainly delivered.

While it is fair to say that Spurs started slowly, key forwards such as Simons and Kolo Muani showed their quality against Copenhagen, and perhaps Frank can build upon this display on the weekend.

Tottenham should also be commended for their resilience after being reduced to 10 men, especially Cristian Romero and Van de Ven, who were key to their side's third and fourth goals.

Copenhagen were not expected to get the better of Spurs, but they should be disappointed that they were unable to defend against the hosts' rampaging defenders despite having a player advantage.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS. COPENHAGEN HIGHLIGHTS

Brennan Johnson goal vs. Copenhagen (19th min, Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Copenhagen)

Johnson races down the right side as Tottenham counter-attack, and Copenhagen goalkeeper Kotarski comes out to meet him as the ball reaches the winger, but the forward simply knocks it past him before striking into an empty net.

What was the goalkeeper doing?

Simons finds space on the right side of the penalty area and crosses into the middle of the box, but Kolo Muani fails to convert his header from close range, sending his effort over the crossbar.

That should be 2-0!

Wilson Odobert goal vs. Copenhagen (51st min, Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Copenhagen)

Kotarski decides to wait for the ball to come to him but Kolo Muani pounces on his hesitancy and as possession comes back down following the forward's tackle, he passes to an onrushing Odobert, who strikes calmly into the bottom-right corner.

Another goalkeeping error!

Johnson's tackle on the back of Marcos Lopez's leg is reviewed by referee Erik Lambrechts, and the official upgrades his yellow to a red.

It was a dangerous challenge and he can have no complaints.

Micky van de Ven goal vs. Copenhagen (64th Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Copenhagen)

Van de Ven recovers the ball on the edge of his own penalty area, and he decides to run the whole length of the pitch, skipping past challenges before finishing low into the left corner.

What a run, what a goal!

Joao Palhinha vs. Copenhagen (67th Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Copenhagen)

Tottenham counter on the right and work the ball to Romero on the left, and he cuts back across the penalty area for Palhinha to tap home at the right post.

What a result for Spurs!

MAN OF THE MATCH - XAVI SIMONS

After facing criticism for his lack of impact at Spurs, Simons managed to lead the team to an emphatic victory in the Champions League.

The Dutchman was key for Tottenham's opening goal, providing an assist, and he also created four chances, the most of any player on the night.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR VS. COPENHAGEN MATCH STATS

Possession: Tottenham Hotspur 61%-39% Copenhagen

Shots: Tottenham Hotspur 14-12 Copenhagen

Shots on target: Tottenham Hotspur 6-4 Copenhagen

Corners: Tottenham Hotspur 3-6 Copenhagen

Fouls: Tottenham Hotspur 10-11 Copenhagen

BEST STATS

WHAT NEXT?

Tottenham face a difficult test in the Premier League against Manchester United on Saturday at home, and their first game back after the international break will be against rivals Arsenal on November 23.

As for Copenhagen, they return to league action on Vejle Boldklub on Sunday, before they take play on November 23 against Brondby.

Tottenham transfer news: Spurs submit 'enquiry' for Serie A pass master to address Thomas Frank problem area

Submitted by daniel on

From Turin to Tottenham? Spurs submit 'enquiry' for Serie A - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly touched base with Juventus to ask about a deal for a struggling pass master during the January transfer window.

The Lilywhites' attacking problems came to the fore in the weekend's dampening 1-0 Premier League loss to London rivals Chelsea, who could and should have won by more at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Only Guglielmo Vicario's heroics prevented a more embarrassing scoreline for Spurs, who set an unwanted club Expected Goals record in that defeat to Enzo Maresca's men.

Randal Kolo Muani started as the central striker in that game, but the Paris Saint-Germain loanee was ineffective during his 73 minutes on the pitch and is still waiting for his first goal for the Lilywhites.

Fellow striker Richarlison has also experienced a downturn in fortunes since a strong start to the campaign, failing to score in any of his last nine matches for the Europa League winners across all competitions, while Dominic Solanke is recovering from ankle surgery.

Tottenham make transfer 'enquiry' for Juventus' Jonathan David

The latter will not be sidelined for too much longer, but it has also been alleged that Frank is not a fan of the former Bournemouth man and has been left unimpressed with what he has seen so far.

As a result, Spurs are being heavily linked with the signing of a new striker in the January transfer window, and according to Sky Italia, an enquiry has been submitted for Juventus centre-forward Jonathan David.

The Canada international joined the Bianconeri on a free transfer this summer following a successful five years with Lille, whom he scored 109 goals in 232 appearances for, winning the Ligue 1 title in his debut season in 2020-21.

However, David has underwhelmed during his time in Turin so far - providing just one goal and one assist in 12 matches in all competitions - and Juventus are already open to the idea of letting the 25-year-old leave over the winter.

David's camp are said to be in 'constant contact' with a host of top European teams about a deal for their client, and Tottenham are one of two clubs to have enquired about the conditions of a possible mid-season move, alongside Bayern Munich.

It is unclear whether Juventus are willing to sanction a permanent exit or just a loan deal, but the Italian giants would likely have no problems letting him leave for good - their financial problems are well-documented and they can make a serious profit on a player they signed for nothing.

What would Jonathan David bring to Tottenham?

Spurs fans may turn their nose up to this transfer due to David's underwhelming attacking metrics this season, but the Canada international can bring a new passing dimension to the Tottenham attack.

Over the past 365 days, the former Lille and Genk attacker has registered an incredible pass success rate of 83%, putting him in the top 2% of all centre-forwards in the big five European leagues.

David also generates just under 1.5 key passes per game, showcasing that his game is more about goals, and Spurs could do with a dash more creativity if their 0.05 Expected Goals against Chelsea are anything to go by.

Tottenham injury news: Thomas delivers Lucas Bergvall update ahead of Copenhagen clash

Thomas Frank delivers fresh Tottenham injury update ahead of - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Copenhagen in the league phase of the Champions League on Tuesday night, but they will be without Lucas Bergvall.Â

The 19-year-old started in the Premier League clash against Chelsea, but he was taken off after only seven minutes due to concussion.Â

The midfielder took a hit to his head from a clearance by Enzo Fernandez, and while he was eager to carry on, Spurs did not take a risk with him.Â

Thomas Frank confirmed on Monday that Bergvall had suffered a concussion and would not participate in the next two games.Â

Tottenham injury news update: Lucas Bergvall out of Copenhagen fixtureÂ

It appears that the Swedish international will not only miss the Copenhagen clash, but also the crucial Premier League game against Manchester United.

The Spurs boss told reporters: "Lucas got a concussion. Which was probably pretty obvious, big praise to the medical team.Â

"It is a tricky situation to be in. Well done to them, it is the player's health which is most important. He is out for the next two games."

Djed Spence and Mohammed Kudus both picked up knocks in the previous game, but Frank expects both the players to be fit for this match.Â

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie both returned to action in the loss to Chelsea, appearing from the bench, and they could be pushing to start.Â

Copenhagen Champions League game a must-win for TottenhamÂ

Spurs are heading into this game on the back of two defeats in a row against Chelsea and Newcastle United, and they must avoid another defeat.Â

The north London club were booed by supporters at both half-time and full-time in the 1-0 home defeat, and a strong performance is needed to turn around the toxic atmosphere surrounding the club.Â

Spurs have won just three home games in their past 19 matches and only three in their last 10 games across all competitions, and they need a strong performance against Copenhagen, who are winless in their three Champions League games.Â

Tottenham can solve specific Thomas Frank "problem" with Champions League victory over Copenhagen

Frank can solve specific "problem" with Copenhagen win - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could solve a major Thomas Frank home "problem" with victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League, a former Spurs midfielder has exclusively told Sports Mole.

The Lilywhites' struggles in front of their own fans continued in Saturday's demoralising 1-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea, against whom they generated their lowest-ever Expected Goals total in a top-flight game since 2012.

Frank's side were booed off the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they have taken just five points from five Premier League games this term, the fourth-worst home form in the division only above the three sides in the relegation zone - Nottingham Forest (4), West Ham United (3) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (1).

The Europa League winners can proudly boast the best away record in the division with 13 points, but Gus Poyet - who scored 23 goals in 98 matches for Tottenham - has warned Frank that dismal home form is usually a "sentence" for teams in demotion dogfights.

“It's a problem," Poyet told Sports Mole. "When you don't win at home, it's a problem for many reasons. First one, normally the teams that do well, they are stronger at home. That's for sure.

Gus Poyet: 'Tottenham's poor home form a problem for many reasons'

“It's a typical sentence for the teams at the bottom. You need to be strong at home to get points and then try to nick some ones away from home. It was always like that.

“Secondly, the stadium is amazing. It's always full. It's expensive and your fans, they want you to win at home.  You can win at home, great, but win at home because I'm coming to watch and we are 50,000 people.

“Normally, at home is where you create the atmosphere around the team. You don't want the team to start playing at home without feeling there is a bad atmosphere in there. The sooner they can put it right, the better."

Tottenham have the chance to put things right at home when they welcome Copenhagen to North London for Tuesday's Champions League league-phase clash, and the Lilywhites have already eked out a narrow win over Villarreal on their own patch in Europe this season.

The 1-0 victory over the Yellow Submarine prolonged an astonishing sequence for the Lilywhites, who have gone unbeaten in each of their last 21 European matches on home turf, winning 17 of them and playing out four draws.

What Thomas Frank is doing to correct Tottenham's torrid home form

However, such results have not translated into consistent home performances in the Premier League, although Poyet believes that Frank and his team may be analysing individual players to see if certain names put in better displays on the road.Â

“I think the coaches, Frank and his assistant, they probably analyse the difference between away from home and at home, which players are performing in the same way or not, or what they need to tweak to get the result," he added.

Tottenham come into the clash with Copenhagen as firm favourites, and Poyet believes that "one result" may be the ticket to a sustained improvement for the Lilywhites

“Sometimes you need just one result somehow, win a football game somehow," the Uruguayan added. "But obviously it needs to change soon because at home is where you can have problems as a coach. Away from home normally is not an issue.”

Frank was notably snubbed by Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence at full time on Saturday, but the Dane revealed in his pre-match press conference that both defenders had apologised for the incident.

Gus Poyet was speaking to Sports Mole on behalf of BetWright.

Spurs boss Frank reveals Van de Ven, Spence apology after - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has revealed that he has received an apology from Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence.

Despite making a strong start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Frank remains under pressure to win over supporters, particularly after Saturday's defeat to Chelsea.

During and after the match, Spurs were jeered by many of their supporters who were left unhappy with their tactics as they were outplayed and outfought by one of their London rivals.

In the seconds after the full-time whistle, Frank attempted to communicate with Van de Ven and Spence on the pitch, but the Dane was snubbed by both his players who stormed down the tunnel.

With the incident captured on camera, it has naturally made for negative headlines and heightened a perception that some Spurs players may not be buying into Frank's tactics.

Frank reveals Van de Ven, Spence apology

Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League fixture against Copenhagen, Frank revealed that the two defenders had made the effort to offer him an apology.

He told reporters: "Micky and Djed came into my office yesterday and just said they wanted to say sorry for the situation. They didn't want it to look bad or disrespectful.

"That was not their intention to me, the team or the club. They were just frustrated by the performance, loss and the booing during the game."

While Frank has acknowledged that he would have wanted to address the situation had Van de Ven and Spence not done so, he defended the pair as their actions showed that they "care".

He added: "If they didn't come in, I would have to ask them about the situation. Of course, I was happy they came in as I knew the questions would come in today.

"We all have a perception]. That was my first question: how were they and why? It means they care, they care about the team and the club and in this case, me. That was very good. We had a good talk about a lot of things.

"Like everything, we keep it internally. It will be very, very unusual if I throw a player under the bus. We are all humans and I will always protect them."

Pivotal week for Frank?

Frank could have benefitted from a week away from action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs have two more home matches before the November international break.

After the game with Copenhagen, Spurs play host to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime as they bid to remain in contention at the top of the Premier League table.

With a trip to Arsenal to come immediately after the next international period, Spurs can ill-afford to have their eight-point deficit to the leaders and fiercest rivals extended.

Arsenal, Tottenham put on 'red alert' for unsettled Real Madrid attacker ahead of January transfer window

Unsettled star? Arsenal, Tottenham put on 'red alert' for - Sports Mole
Description

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been alerted to the potential availability of Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo in January.

The 24-year-old is looking set for reduced game time at the Bernabeu in the near future, especially with the latest transfer rumblings.

Xabi Alonso's troops are supposedly keen on securing the services of Paris Saint-Germain hitman Desire Doue, who recently won the Champions League.

Rodrygo has seen his importance in the squad of Real Madrid decrease since the arrival of head coach Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer.

The Brazil international has featured in nine La Liga matches this term but has started just two of those contests, managing only 244 of top-flight action overall.

Arsenal, Tottenham in hunt for Rodrygo?

According to TBR Football, a high-profile move to the Premier League could be on the cards for Real Madrid fringe player Rodrygo.

The report claims that the 24-year-old is weighing up his future at the Bernabeu following a lack of match minutes so far in 2025-26.

It is understood that a New Year departure from the ranks of Alonso is a real possibility for Rodrygo, who is a two-time Champions League winner.

Consequently, it is believed that North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs have both been made aware of the player's potential availability.

The Gunners and the Lilywhites were supposedly keen on Rodrygo over the summer, although a transfer to England failed to materialise.

Rodrygo's Real headache

A three-time La Liga winner and two-time European champion, Rodrygo's best days and happiest moments at Real Madrid could be behind him.

The 35-time international is clearly down the pecking order in Alonso's eyes this term, with the likes of Arda Guler playing a more prominent role.

That situation has shown no sign of changing in the near future, meaning that a switch to the Premier League could be key for Rodrygo's career.

Spurs vs. Chelsea: Possible Rodrigo Bentancur, Enzo Fernandez reds assessed by former Premier League referee

"Definitely not a red card": Ex-PL referee gives take on - Sports Mole
Description

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has dismissed suggestions that Enzo Fernandez should have been handed a red card during Saturday's fixture between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Despite a one-sided game that played out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Joao Pedro's first-half goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.

As a result, the two teams are separated by just goal difference in the Premier League table, Spurs sitting in fifth and Chelsea in sixth.

Nevertheless, there were two particularly contentious incidents either side of half time involving Fernandez and Spurs midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

Midway through the second half, Fernandez was handed a yellow card for a late, knee-high challenge on Joao Palhinha with replays suggesting that he was perhaps fortunate to avoid stronger punishment.

Â

Gallagher dismisses Fernandez red card claims

However, speaking to Sky Sports News, Gallagher has insisted that the referee was correct in only handing out a yellow card on-field.

He said: "I definitely do not think this is a red card, his feet are up and it is a glancing blow, he has not gone through him,

it is almost sideways.

"If he was in front and had gone through like that, he is on big trouble, but because of the angle he comes in at, he does not get the force or contact and so does not make the impact."

Meanwhile, Gallagher feels that Bentancur was fortunate to remain on the pitch for a studs-up challenge on Reece James, replays showing that the Argentine made connection with the Blues skipper and scraped down his ankle.

Gallagher added: "I think this is one of them. If he gets sent off, VAR is not bringing him back. I think it's more red than a yellow card.Â

"But I can understand the yellow on field. I think VAR is going to back the decision."

Chelsea retain discipline in London derby

Much has been made of the five red cards that Chelsea picked up across a nine-match period between September 20 and October 29.

That said, Chelsea only received two cautions during the Spurs game, one for Fernandez's challenge on Palhinha and the other for Trevoh Chalobah protesting the nature of Bentancur's foul on James.

Chelsea have now racked up 20 yellow cards from their 10 Premier League matches during 2025-26, yet not a single player has accumulated more than two cautions in the competition.
