Spurs 'prepared' to offer €60m for former Thomas Frank - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly contemplating whether to make an approach for Al Ahli forward Ivan Toney.

Thomas Frank can claim to have enjoyed a strong start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, recording six wins, four draws and two defeats from his opening 12 matches.

However, with Spurs having recently dropped down to sixth position in the Premier League table courtesy of collecting just five points from four matches, there is still work to do.

With Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani all part of this season's first-team squad, Spurs are certainly not short of options down the middle of their attack.

Nevertheless, as per Fichajes, Spurs are open-minded regarding a potential move for one of Frank's former star men.

How is Ivan Toney faring in Saudi Arabia?

Since signing for Al Ahli in August 2024, Toney's performances in the Saudi Pro League have gone somewhat under the radar.

The England international has contributed an incredible 39 goals and eight assists from just 56 appearances in all competitions.

Toney has already won an AFC Champions League Elite title and a Saudi Super Cup during his time with Al Ahli, yet he will always be linked with a transfer back to the Premier League.

In 85 appearances for Brentford in England's top flight, Toney contributed 36 goals and 11 assists, making him an attractive option for clubs in the country.

If Spurs decide to pursue Frank's former centre-forward, they are allegedly willing to pay €60m (£52.14m) for his signature.

While there are still over two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, Al Ahli may be prepared to take the chance to make a substantial profit on his signature.

Which Spurs forwards could leave?

Despite the amount of forwards that Spurs have in their ranks, there is an argument that each of the quartet are not safe in Frank's squad.

Richarlison's contract expires in 2027, Tel was left out of the club's Champions League squad, Solanke is yet to impress due to injury and Kolo Muani is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, the chance to sign Toney on a long-term deal may prove too tempting to turn down, particularly when funds can be generated through sales.

Liverpool 'weighing up' January swoop for Spurs, Man - Sports Mole
Description

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in the winter transfer window.

The Reds splashed out over £450m in the summer transfer window, recruiting Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni.

However, Liverpool are yet to see a return on their investment on the pitch, with Arne Slot's side struggling to match the high standards of the 2024-25 campaign.

In fact, they will head into Wednesday's Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on the back of a four-game losing run after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

Liverpool eyeing Semenyo as Salah replacement

Mohamed Salah is among the Liverpool stars that has struggled this term, having netted just three goals in 11 competitive appearances this term.

The Egyptian has failed to score in any of his last five Liverpool appearances, with The Mirror reporting that his dip in form has convinced Liverpool to speed up their quest to sign his long-term successor.

The report claims that Liverpool are keen on Bournemouth's Semenyo and are weighing up whether to make a bid in the January transfer window.Â

Liverpool could face competition for Semenyo's signature, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race after making enquiries in the summer.

Semenyo signed a new long-term deal to put the summer transfer interest to bed, but there is believed to be a release clause in his contract.Â

Why are Liverpool targeting Semenyo?

Semenyo impressed for Andoni Iraola's side last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 42 competitive appearances.

The Ghana international has gone from strength to strength in the opening two months of the 2025-26 campaign, having registered nine goal contributions in as many Premier League matches.Â

In fact, Semenyo is currently sitting in second spot in the Premier League scoring charts after finding the net on six occasions this term.Â

Semenyo scored two of those goals in the opening day defeat to Liverpool, so Slot's side will be more than aware of what the 25-year-old is capable of.Â

Monaco vs Tottenham Hotspur: Two Spurs players absent from training before UCL clash - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur will travel to Stade Louis II to face Monaco in the third matchday round of the Champions League on Wednesday, and Thomas Frank could be missing two key players.Â

The north London club have made a decent start to their 2025-26 Champions League campaign, winning 1-0 against Villarreal and drawing 2-2Â with Bodo/Glimt so far.Â

Spurs suffered their second defeat of the season last week, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa, and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways in the midweek.Â

Ahead of the clash against Monaco, Thomas Frank could miss more key players, as Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie reportedly did not take part in the Tottenham training today.Â

Spurs duo could miss out vs. MonacoÂ

Romero picked up a minor adductor injury in the warm-up of Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa and was removed from the matchday squad.Â

Although he was initially named in Tottenham's starting lineup, the injury forced Frank to withdraw him from the squad, with Kevin Danso replacing him.Â

After the game, Frank confirmed that the injury was not serious and that he expects the defender to recover quickly, but it seems Romero could miss the clash against Monaco.Â

According to a report from football.london, Udogie complained of minor knee irritation after international duty and did not participate in training either.Â

Likewise, versatile defender Davies, who has yet to feature this season for Spurs, has been absent from today's training, adding to the injury woes.Â

Tottenham missing a host of key playersÂ

The mounting injury problems are proving to be a big headache for Frank, who could now be without 10 players on Wednesday night.

Radu Dragusin, Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke are already absent due to injuries, while Kota Takai and Mathys Tel are unavailable as they have not been included in the club’s Champions League squad.

Thomas Frank aiming to set new Tottenham managerial record in Monaco Champions League game

How Frank can make Champions League history for Spurs in - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank could create Champions League history for the Lilywhites when they face Monaco in Wednesday's league-phase battle.

The Europa League winners head to the Stade Louis-II boasting a respectable total of four points from six on offer in the 2025-26 UCL, good enough for ninth position in the 36-team rankings.

Spurs returned to the continental big time with a 1-0 win over Villarreal on home soil, before playing out a 2-2 stalemate with Norwegian outfit and Europa League semi-final opponents Bodo/Glimt.

Meanwhile, Monaco - set to play their first Champions League game under Sebastien Pocognoli after Adi Hutter's dismissal - have just one point from their opening two games, drawing 2-2 with Manchester City after an opening 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Club Brugge.

While Pocognoli seeks a winning start in Europe as Monegasques head coach, Frank can achieve a feat that no Tottenham manager has previously managed in the Champions League.

Thomas Frank looking to create Champions League history for Tottenham

Should Tottenham claim at least a point from Wednesday's game, Frank would be the first Spurs head coach to ever go unbeaten in his first three Champions League matches.

Only once before have the Lilywhites navigated their first three games of a Champions League season without suffering defeat, achieving two wins and one draw under Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

However, Pochettino suffered defeat in his first Champions League game in charge of Spurs, who coincidentally lost 2-1 to Monaco in the Argentine's maiden top-level European match in the 2016-17 season.

In later years, Jose Mourinho was beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich during his second Champions League match with Tottenham, before Antonio Conte's Spurs fell to a 2-0 loss to Sporting Lisbon in the Italian's second game.

Ange Postecoglou never took charge of a Champions League match for the North London club, but he did go unbeaten in his first three Europa League matches last season before a matchday four defeat to Galatasaray.

Why Tottenham will not enjoy Eric Dier reunion against Monaco

Monaco's solitary point in the Champions League this season came thanks to a last-gasp Eric Dier penalty against Man City, and the former Tottenham defender would have been on course for a Spurs reunion on Wednesday.

The England international represented the Lilywhites for 10 years between 2014 and 2024, making 365 appearances for the club and scoring 13 goals before departing for Harry Kane's Bayern Munich.

However, Dier is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out until the middle of November, so the 31-year-old will watch on helplessly from the sidelines against his former employers

Meanwhile, Spurs will be missing the injured Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski, Kota Takai and Yves Bissouma, while Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero are both major doubts for the contest.

Tottenham transfer news: Fabio Paratici a 'big fan' of 35

Paratici's pick: Spurs chief a 'big fan' of £86.9m striker - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on a 21-year-old Olympic gold medallist as Thomas Frank scopes out additional attacking reinforcements, according to a report.

The Lilywhites' forward line proved largely ineffective last time out in the Premier League, where Aston Villa condemned the Europa League winners to a sobering 2-1 home defeat in North London.

Spurs' solitary goal on the day came thanks to a combination from defensive midfield duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha, the former firing home early doors before Morgan Rogers and Emiliano Buendia completed the Lions' comeback.

Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Mathys Tel were unable to make their mark against Unai Emery's side, while Richarlison could not provide the desired impact during a 30-minute substitute cameo either.

Tel was also omitted from Tottenham's Champions League league-phase squad owing to Spurs' lack of home-grown players, while record signing Dominic Solanke is on the sidelines as he recuperates from ankle surgery.

Tottenham's Fabio Paratici a 'big fan' of Samu Aghehowa

As a result, offensive additions are thought to be high on the shortlist of Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici, who has been re-appointed to the club's transfer hierarchy following his ban after working closely under Antonio Conte.

According to TBR Football, the Tottenham chief is a 'big fan' of Porto centre-forward Samu Aghehowa, who has been finding the back of the net for fun in Portugal since leaving Atletico Madrid in a high-profile transfer last year.

Chelsea appeared to be closing in on Aghehowa's signing in 2024, only for the deal to collapse owing to medical issues and an image rights dispute, allowing Porto to swoop in and complete a £27.8m transfer.

The 2004-born protege - who won gold with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics - has since scored a stellar 35 goals in 54 games for Porto in all competitions, including eight strikes from nine appearances this season.

How much will Tottenham have to pay for Samu Aghehowa?

At a first glance, Tottenham would seemingly have to break the bank for Aghehowa, who is contracted to Porto until 2029 and has a €100m (£87m) release clause in his agreement.

However, the report adds that Porto will almost certainly accept 'much less' owing to their precarious financial position, meaning that Spurs' biggest concern could be interest from rival clubs.

Barcelona are alleged to be considering Aghehowa as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski, who is looking increasingly likely to depart Camp Nou when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Chelsea's name often still appears in conversations surrounding the former Atletico Madrid striker too, although it remains to be seen if the Blues reignite their interest after capturing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Monaco vs. Spurs: Head-to-head record and past meetings - Sports Mole
Description

For the second Champions League matchweek running, Monaco play host to a Premier League side at the Stade Louis II, as Tottenham Hotspur pay a visit on Wednesday for a league-phase showdown.

Les Monegasques rescued a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Manchester City last time out, but they were thumped 4-1 by Club Brugge first up and replaced Adi Hutter with Sebastien Pocognoli during the international break.

Meanwhile, Spurs have taken down Villarreal and played out their own four-goal stalemate with Bodo/Glimt in Europe this term, results that have left them just outside the automatic last-16 qualification places in ninth.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings:Â 4

Monaco wins:Â 2

Draws:Â 1

Tottenham Hotspur wins:Â 1

Exclusively meeting in the group stages/league phases of European competitions, Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur have clashed four times in competitive action, twice in the Europa League and twice in the Champions League.

Les Monegasques only just hold the bragging rights with two victories over Tottenham, who have only beaten the Ligue 1 giants on one occasion, while the inaugural game between the two sides ended in a split of the spoils.

That contest took place in the group stage of the 2015-16 Europa League, where Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham went ahead in the first half through Erik Lamela, but a late header from Stephan El Shaarawy stole a point for Monaco.

Spurs got their revenge for that late leveller in emphatic fashion, though, demolishing Monaco 4-1 at White Hart Lane in December 2015, when Lamela and El Shaarawy both found the back of the net again.

However, Lamela managed a terrific trio of goals inside just 38 minutes before El Shaarawy's response, which proved meaningless both before and after Tom Carroll struck number four for Pochettino's side.

Monaco and Spurs would reunite just several months later in the elite European competition, being paired together in Group E of the 2016-17 Champions League, where Les Monegasques had Tottenham's number on both occasions.

The Ligue 1 outfit firstly came away from Wembley with a 2-1 win to their name in September 2016, as Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar found the back of the net before Toby Alderweireld's consolation.

Two months later, Leonardo Jardim's men triumphed by the same scoreline on their own patch, where a chaotic five-minute period at the start of the second half saw Djibril Sidibe, Harry Kane and Lemar all register.

Last four meetings

Nov 22, 2016: Monaco 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Champions League)

Sep 14, 2016: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Monaco (Champions League)

Dec 10, 2015: Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Monaco (Europa League)

Oct 01, 2015: Monaco 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Europa League)

Description

Neither Monaco nor Tottenham Hotspur made winning returns to action following the international break, and the two inconsistent outfits now aim to right some wrongs in Wednesday's Champions League league-phase clash at the Stade Louis II.

Both sides took one point from their matchday two encounters, as the Ligue 1 club held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw, while the Lilywhites played out their own four-goal thriller with Bodo/Glimt.

Match preview

Already on the cusp of the automatic last-16 places, Tottenham have claimed a respectable four points from the first six on offer following their return to Champions League territory, although one may have felt like three away to Bodo/Glimt last time out.

Reuniting with their 2024-25 Europa League semi-final opponents - whom they saw off 5-1 on aggregate last term - Spurs found the going a lot tougher in the Arctic Circle this time around and needed a last-gasp own goal from Jostein Gundersen to salvage a 2-2 stalemate on September 30.

Nevertheless, that draw coupled with an opening beating of Villarreal - where Spurs admittedly rode their luck again - means that the Lilywhites have strung together a six-game unbeaten run in Champions League league-phase/group-stage games, while only losing two of their last 12.

However, there would be no late heroics for the Europa League champions over the weekend, as Thomas Frank's latest home horror show saw Aston Villa emerge 2-1 winners in the Premier League, leaving Tottenham with just the one win to show from their last four contests.

For all of Tottenham's travails on home soil, though, the North London outfit are still yet to suffer defeat on the road in the 2025-26 season, excluding their European Super Cup penalty-shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Also adapting to life under new management - albeit thanks to a much more recent change - Monaco will play their first European contest under the guidance of Sebastien Pocognoli this week, following the dismissal of Adi Hutter over the international break.

Hutter was fired in the wake of a disheartening run just before the two-week pause, as the 55-year-old oversaw a mere one win from his final five games at the helm, a sequence that included a 4-1 loss to Club Brugge and 2-2 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League.

The latter result - given to them courtesy of a last-gasp Eric Dier penalty - was more than respectable, but the Monegasque board have now sought fresh ideas in the shape of 38-year-old Pocognoli, a Belgian top-flight title winner with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Pocognoli's maiden match at the helm was nothing if not underwhelming, though, as Monaco shared the spoils in a 1-1 Ligue 1 draw with Angers at the weekend - the hosts' third successive stalemate across all competitions.

Les Monegasques' domestic draw prolonged their painful streak of shipping goals, and the Ligue 1 side are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the season ahead of the visit of Spurs, whom they claimed a pair of 2-1 victories against during the 2016-17 Champions League.

Team News

Spurs' cause against Aston Villa was not helped by a pair of fresh defensive injury blows, as Destiny Udogie was ruled out before kickoff with a minor knee issue, while captain Cristian Romero sustained an adductor issue in the warm-up.

Tottenham fans remain in the dark about both players' availability for Wednesday, but it would be a surprise to see either involved given the quick turnaround, so Kevin Danso should once again fill the Romero void alongside Micky van de Ven, who is one booking away from a UCL ban.

Dejan Kulusevski (knee), James Maddison (knee), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Radu Dragusin (knee), Kota Takai (foot), Ben Davies (muscle) and Dominic Solanke (ankle) are all expected to miss out for the visitors, alongside the ineligible Mathys Tel, who suffered a calf issue at the weekend anyway.

From injured Spurs defenders to injured ex-Spurs defenders, the Lilywhites will not be reuniting with Monaco penalty hero Dier this weekend, as the Englishman has sustained a hamstring problem which will sideline him for a few weeks.

Dier takes up a place in a packed Monaco infirmary alongside Lukas Hradecky (knee), Christian Mawissa (hamstring), Vanderson (hamstring), Denis Zakaria (adductor) and Lamine Camara (ankle), while Paul Pogba is still not match fit.

However, Pocognoli has no selection concerns whatsoever up front, where Folarin Balogun could replace another Arsenal graduate in Mika Biereth after coming off the bench to score Monaco's solitary goal against Angers.

Monaco possible starting lineup:

Kohn; Salisu, Kehrer, Henrique; Diatta, Coulibaly, Teze, Ouattara; Akliouche, Fati; Balogun

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Sarr, Bentancur, Bergvall; Johnson, Richarlison, Simons

We say: Monaco 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Only one of Tottenham's last 18 games in the Champions League has seen the Lilywhites fail to score, while Monaco have played out just one goalless draw in their last 72 matches in any European competition.

Also factoring in both sides' defensive weaknesses and abundance of attacking options, an enthralling end-to-end encounter could be on the cards, and yet another 2-2 stalemate is a highly realistic outcome.

Tottenham lineup vs. Monaco: Predicted XI for Champions League clash after Romero, Udogie injury blows

Richarlison in, Romero out: Predicted Spurs XI vs. Monaco - Sports Mole
Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is likely to be without two key defenders for Wednesday's Champions League league-phase showdown with Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

The Lilywhites suffered a pair of fresh blows ahead of their 2-1 Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, as Cristian Romero hurt his groin in the warm-up, while Destiny Udogie missed out with a minor knee problem.

Frank could not say for certain whether both men would be absent or available for the midweek fixture, but given the tight turnaround, it would be a surprise to see either player risked for the European contest.

Romero's problem should therefore lead to another start for Kevin Danso alongside Micky van de Ven, who is already treading a suspension tightrope and will incur a Champions League ban if he is booked on Wednesday.

With Udogie likely to miss out, Djed Spence's spot at left-back should be safe too, while Pedro Porro ought to be retained at right-back over the youthful Archie Gray.

However, Frank should not shy away from alterations further up the field, where Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall could add more dynamism to the midfield alongside Rodrigo Bentancur.

Mathys Tel's ineligibility will likely see Richarlison return to the tip of the attack, flanked by Brennan Johnson and Xavi Simons as Randal Kolo Muani builds up his fitness as a substitute.

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Vicario; Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence; Sarr, Bentancur, Bergvall; Johnson, Richarlison, Simons

Romero, Udogie updates: Spurs injury, suspension list for - Sports Mole
Description

Seeking to stretch their away unbeaten run to six matches in all tournaments, Tottenham Hotspur head to the Principality to tackle Monaco in Wednesday's Champions League league-phase tussle.

Thomas Frank's men have claimed a respectable four points from their opening two European clashes of the season, edging out Villarreal 1-0 before a 2-2 draw with Bodo/Glimt on matchday two.

However, the Lilywhites were stunned 2-1 by Aston Villa on home soil in the Premier League on Sunday, but their cause was not helped by two fresh defensive blows.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Tottenham's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their meeting with Monaco, who held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw last time out in the Champions League.

Cristian Romero

Status:Â Major doubt

Type of injury:Â Adductor

Possible return date:Â October 22 (vs. Monaco)

Spurs were forced into a late lineup change against Aston Villa due to Cristian Romero sustaining an adductor issue in the warm-up, and Frank does not yet know whether the Argentine will be able to face Monaco.

Destiny Udogie

Status:Â Major doubt

Type of injury:Â Knee

Possible return date:Â October 22 (vs. Monaco)

Spurs' second fresh blow at the back, Destiny Udogie returned from international duty with minor knee irritation, but he has not yet been ruled out of the trip to Monaco.

Mathys Tel

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Calf

Possible return date:Â October 26 (vs. Everton)

Mathys Tel was spotted with ice on his calf after being taken off on Sunday, and he will be given a complete rest here given that he was not selected for Tottenham's league-phase squad.

Ben Davies

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Muscle

Possible return date:Â Unknown

Ben Davies sustained a muscular problem while representing Wales during the recent international break, and the experienced defender is not expected to take part in Wednesday's game.

Yves Bissouma

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Ankle

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Yves Bissouma had just returned from one injury before sustaining an ankle issue while on duty for Mali this month, and it would be a surprise to see him return this side of the next international break.

Kota Takai

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Foot

Possible return date:Â October 26 (vs. Everton)

Kota Takai is believed to be nearing a return from a foot problem, but as he was not selected for Tottenham's UCL league-phase squad, he will not be making his competitive debut for the club here.

Radu Dragusin

Status: Out

Type of injury:Â Knee

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Likewise, Radu Dragusin could soon make his long-awaited comeback from an ACL injury, but the Romania international was unsurprisingly omitted from Frank's squad for the opening rounds of the Champions League.

Dejan Kulusevski

Status: Out

Type of injury:Â Knee

Possible return date:Â November 23 (vs. Arsenal)

Creative hub Dejan Kulusevski has endured a lengthier recovery than expected from a knee injury, and it will be a few weeks at the very least before the Swede is back involved.

James Maddison

Status: Out

Type of injury:Â Knee

Possible return date:Â Unknown

James Maddison is on the extremely long road to recovery from the ACL tear he suffered in pre-season, and there are no guarantees that he will return before the campaign is over.

Dominic Solanke

Status:Â Out

Type of injury:Â Ankle

Possible return date:Â November 8 (vs. Manchester United)

Dominic Solanke is already making steady progress in his recuperation from an ankle procedure, and the England striker could potentially be fit to return within a couple of weeks.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR SUSPENSION LIST

Tottenham have no players suspended for this match, but Micky van de Ven is one booking away from a European ban.
