Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly touched base with Juventus to ask about a deal for a struggling pass master during the January transfer window.

The Lilywhites' attacking problems came to the fore in the weekend's dampening 1-0 Premier League loss to London rivals Chelsea, who could and should have won by more at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Only Guglielmo Vicario's heroics prevented a more embarrassing scoreline for Spurs, who set an unwanted club Expected Goals record in that defeat to Enzo Maresca's men.

The latter will not be sidelined for too much longer, but it has also been alleged that Frank is not a fan of the former Bournemouth man and has been left unimpressed with what he has seen so far.

As a result, Spurs are being heavily linked with the signing of a new striker in the January transfer window, and according to Sky Italia, an enquiry has been submitted for Juventus centre-forward Jonathan David.

The Canada international joined the Bianconeri on a free transfer this summer following a successful five years with Lille, whom he scored 109 goals in 232 appearances for, winning the Ligue 1 title in his debut season in 2020-21.

However, David has underwhelmed during his time in Turin so far - providing just one goal and one assist in 12 matches in all competitions - and Juventus are already open to the idea of letting the 25-year-old leave over the winter.

It is unclear whether Juventus are willing to sanction a permanent exit or just a loan deal, but the Italian giants would likely have no problems letting him leave for good - their financial problems are well-documented and they can make a serious profit on a player they signed for nothing.

Spurs fans may turn their nose up to this transfer due to David's underwhelming attacking metrics this season, but the Canada international can bring a new passing dimension to the Tottenham attack.

Over the past 365 days, the former Lille and Genk attacker has registered an incredible pass success rate of 83%, putting him in the top 2% of all centre-forwards in the big five European leagues.

David also generates just under 1.5 key passes per game, showcasing that his game is more about goals, and Spurs could do with a dash more creativity if their 0.05 Expected Goals against Chelsea are anything to go by.

The Europa League winners can proudly boast the best away record in the division with 13 points, but Gus Poyet - who scored 23 goals in 98 matches for Tottenham - has warned Frank that dismal home form is usually a "sentence" for teams in demotion dogfights.

“It's a problem," Poyet told Sports Mole. "When you don't win at home, it's a problem for many reasons. First one, normally the teams that do well, they are stronger at home. That's for sure.

“Normally, at home is where you create the atmosphere around the team. You don't want the team to start playing at home without feeling there is a bad atmosphere in there. The sooner they can put it right, the better."

Tottenham have the chance to put things right at home when they welcome Copenhagen to North London for Tuesday's Champions League league-phase clash, and the Lilywhites have already eked out a narrow win over Villarreal on their own patch in Europe this season.

The 1-0 victory over the Yellow Submarine prolonged an astonishing sequence for the Lilywhites, who have gone unbeaten in each of their last 21 European matches on home turf, winning 17 of them and playing out four draws.

However, such results have not translated into consistent home performances in the Premier League, although Poyet believes that Frank and his team may be analysing individual players to see if certain names put in better displays on the road.Â

Tottenham come into the clash with Copenhagen as firm favourites, and Poyet believes that "one result" may be the ticket to a sustained improvement for the Lilywhites

“Sometimes you need just one result somehow, win a football game somehow," the Uruguayan added. "But obviously it needs to change soon because at home is where you can have problems as a coach. Away from home normally is not an issue.”

Frank was notably snubbed by Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence at full time on Saturday, but the Dane revealed in his pre-match press conference that both defenders had apologised for the incident.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has revealed that he has received an apology from Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence.

Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League fixture against Copenhagen, Frank revealed that the two defenders had made the effort to offer him an apology.

He told reporters: "Micky and Djed came into my office yesterday and just said they wanted to say sorry for the situation. They didn't want it to look bad or disrespectful.

"That was not their intention to me, the team or the club. They were just frustrated by the performance, loss and the booing during the game."

While Frank has acknowledged that he would have wanted to address the situation had Van de Ven and Spence not done so, he defended the pair as their actions showed that they "care".

He added: "If they didn't come in, I would have to ask them about the situation. Of course, I was happy they came in as I knew the questions would come in today.

"We all have a perception]. That was my first question: how were they and why? It means they care, they care about the team and the club and in this case, me. That was very good. We had a good talk about a lot of things.

"Like everything, we keep it internally. It will be very, very unusual if I throw a player under the bus. We are all humans and I will always protect them."

Pivotal week for Frank?

Frank could have benefitted from a week away from action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs have two more home matches before the November international break.

After the game with Copenhagen, Spurs play host to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime as they bid to remain in contention at the top of the Premier League table.

With a trip to Arsenal to come immediately after the next international period, Spurs can ill-afford to have their eight-point deficit to the leaders and fiercest rivals extended.

He said: "I definitely do not think this is a red card, his feet are up and it is a glancing blow, he has not gone through him,

it is almost sideways.

"If he was in front and had gone through like that, he is on big trouble, but because of the angle he comes in at, he does not get the force or contact and so does not make the impact."

Meanwhile, Gallagher feels that Bentancur was fortunate to remain on the pitch for a studs-up challenge on Reece James, replays showing that the Argentine made connection with the Blues skipper and scraped down his ankle.

Gallagher added: "I think this is one of them. If he gets sent off, VAR is not bringing him back. I think it's more red than a yellow card.Â

"But I can understand the yellow on field. I think VAR is going to back the decision."

Chelsea retain discipline in London derby

Much has been made of the five red cards that Chelsea picked up across a nine-match period between September 20 and October 29.

That said, Chelsea only received two cautions during the Spurs game, one for Fernandez's challenge on Palhinha and the other for Trevoh Chalobah protesting the nature of Bentancur's foul on James.

Chelsea have now racked up 20 yellow cards from their 10 Premier League matches during 2025-26, yet not a single player has accumulated more than two cautions in the competition.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly battle for the signature of Porto striker Samu Aghehowa during next summer's transfer window.

The Spain international made the move to Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024, and he has scored 36 goals and registered four assists in 57 matches for the Portuguese giants.

In the current climate, €80m (£70m) is not a lot of money for a player of Samu's ilk and potential, and it would therefore not be a surprise to see him move for a fee of that size during next summer's transfer window.
