Spurs vs Leicester City (WSL) | Our impressive unbeaten run over Foxes in WSL - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Our opening game of 2026 sees us take on Leicester City in a Barclays Women’s Super League clash at Brisbane Road – and we pose a strong record against our opponents ahead of Sunday’s encounter.

With a record of seven wins and two draws in our previous nine meetings, we’ve yet to suffer defeat to the Foxes in the league since their promotion in 2021, a run that sees our joint-most wins in the competition over any opponents (Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United also on seven).

Both sides met in the opening WSL game of 2025 which saw us run out 1-0 winners at Brisbane Road, a scoreline that has seen us come out on top in our last four home games.

And scoring first in the contest could be a key factor in the final outcome as we’re on a 31-game unbeaten streak in games when we’ve taken the lead – only Chelsea (34) and Arsenal (32) are on longer runs in the WSL.

The Foxes come into the new year off the back of a strong victory over newly-promoted London City Lionesses, with Rick Passmoor’s side currently ninth on nine points.

Shannon O’Brien’s strike proved to be the difference against the Lionesses and the forward has scored the Foxes’ last three goals in the competition, with those coming in her previous four outings.

Here are some other headline stats, courtesy of Opta, ahead of our encounter in E10 this weekend…

We’re unbeaten in our last three WSL games (W1 D2), last going four without defeat between December, 2024, and January, 2025. We’ve already won as many points in 2025-26 as we did in 2024/25 (20 in each).

Leicester City picked up their second league win of the season on MD11 against London City Lionesses (1-0) and will be aiming to win back-to-back Women’s Super League matches for the first time since October, 2023.

Only Manchester City (18) have won more points at home in the WSL this season than us (13 – P6 W4 D1 L1), as we are unbeaten in our last four at home (W3 D1), our longest streak in a Women’s Super League campaign since 2021/22 (7).

Leicester City remain on the longest ever winless streak away from home in the Women’s Super League (P21 D7 L14), with their last win on the road coming in their first away match of 2024 vs Everton. The Foxes are also the only side to play more than eight times in London as an away side without winning in the WSL (P19 D3 L16).

Leicester City have scored just a single first half goal in 11 WSL games so far this season, the joint-fewest at the halfway stage of a 12-team campaign alongside Liverpool in 2019-20 (also one), who scored after 14 minutes in their 12th match.

Bethany England has scored in each of her last three Women’s Super League starts, only scoring in four straight for us once before in the WSL, doing so between March and May, 2024.

Pape Matar Sarr's Senegal progress into Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals at the expense of Yves Bissouma's Mali - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Pape Matar Sarr's Senegal progressed to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Yves Bissouma's Mali 1-0 on Friday evening.

The midfielder's nation overcame Yves' Mali thanks to a first-half effort from Everton Iliman Ndiaye, who tapped home from close range after goalkeeper Djigui Diarra spilled Krepin Diatta's cross.

Mali's task became even more difficult on the stroke of half-time when they were reduced to 10 men as Yves picked up his second booking of the game.

Yves was making his 46th appearance for his country while Pape was an unused substitute.

Pape's country will now face the winner of Egypt and Ivory Coast in a semi-final clash - their third in the last four editions of the tournament - on Wednesday 14 January in Tangier.

“They're the fans that keep this club going” – Neville’s farewell message - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

In a heartfelt interview filled with emotion, memories and love, Ashleigh Neville has bid farewell after an incredible eight-and-a-half-years at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sitting down to speak as a Spurs player for the final time, following the announcement of her permanent transfer to Leicester City earlier this week, the experienced defender spoke of her gratitude to the Lilywhite fanbase throughout her journey – which started playing at Theobalds Lane in Cheshunt to now starring in front of packed-out crowds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“I just want to say thank you to every single staff member, player and the fans obviously that have made this my home for the last nine years,” she said in her farewell interview.

“It's a massive credit to the people before and the girls that are there now that are going to push the Club on to, hopefully, be one of the best in the league.

“We've grown with our fan base, from only having 50 down at Cheshunt to now having sell-out crowds at stadiums when we're playing against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is great to see the growth of women’s football.

“They're the fans that keep this club going so I just hope that they continue to support the team because the club is going in a massive now journey to be the best team in this league. I wish the team all the best and a massive thank you to those fans, and I hope that you can continue to follow me and Spurs on this journey.”

An icon of this football club and ultimate professional, Ash joined us in July, 2017, from Coventry United ahead of our first-ever season in the Women’s Super League 2 – with her and the Club’s dreaming of reaching England’s top flight for the first time.

With 191 appearances in Lilywhite across her nine seasons, she has been a part of countless memorable moments with us, but one that sticks in her mind is the game that secured our promotion to the WSL in May, 2019 – a nerve-racking 1-1 draw away at Aston Villa.

“I started at the Club when I was 24 and it's been a long journey. I was playing at Coventry beforehand, and I remember finishing that season and then being at home and getting a call off Karen Hills to have a little chat through me as a player and what they wanted to offer me.

“Then, I got offered to come and sign for Spurs, which was a massive step in my career for me moving up to what was the WSL 2 then. It was the best decision I made to move to Spurs from Coventry United.

“The Villa game is one that always comes back to me when people ask ‘what's one or a couple of your memories from playing at Spurs’ from whenever I've done interviews before - that one always pops up.

“We went 1-0 up but then there was an equaliser. I just remember us all saying ‘we literally have to hold on for the next few minutes’. Obviously, I was in the right place at the right time to clear the ball off the line to stop them from scoring. But the big thing that sits in my mind is when the whistle went and the celebrations from people coming off the bench. It's something that you always dream of.”

Lining up in our seven-and-a-half seasons in the WSL with us, Ash became the first Spurs player to have reached a century of appearances in the competition in February, 2025, writing her name into our history books.

She will also be remembered as a key member of our side which made history in reaching the FA Cup Final for the first time ever back in 2024 – a moment that will last forever for Ash.

“I remember when we were coming in every week before that next round of the cup and we had a visual of us on our coach on our road, our journey to Wembley,” she added, reflecting on the journey in the FA Cup.

“The Leicester game at the [Tottenham Hotspur] Stadium, where we scored in the last minute, I remember getting cramp, which everyone will always look back and laugh at.

“Then, to go to Wembley and walk out to a completely sold-out stadium, where there's our fans, their fans, but then there's just general Women's fans that are coming to enjoy a good game of football, was incredible for me and something that I'm really proud of and stuck with me.

“I've got my shirt and my medal framed and it's got somewhere to go in the house. Just a massive moment for myself but, also for the Club, in taking a big step in the right direction.”

Loan update | Vuskovic named Bundesliga Player of the Season so far - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

The Bundesliga winter break comes to an end this weekend for Luka Vuskovic’s Hamburg, and as the second half of the 18-year-old’s loan spell begins, he has been voted as the league’s Player of the Season so far.

Vuskovic came out on top from a 16-player shortlist that included our all-time record goalscorer Harry Kane as well as his Bayern Munich team-mates Michael Olise and Luis Diaz in a fan vote on the Bundesliga’s official app.

The 16 candidates were split into eight head-to-head votes, with the winner of each vote advancing to the next round to create a two-player final, where Vuskovic would face off against Kane.

The Croatian, who has already picked up the Bundesliga Goal of the Year award and multiple Rookie of the Month awards this season, beat the league’s top goalscorer to the award, winning 60% of the vote.

In his 13 Bundesliga appearances, the defender has been a massive factor in Hamburg’s strong start to their first campaign in the top division of German football since 2017/18, currently sitting five points above the division’s two automatic relegation spots.

Vuskovic has been a cut above the rest of the division aerially, winning 81% of his battles in the air, which is a league high, and coming out on top in a Bundesliga-best 70% of his challenges.

Hamburg, who went into the winter break with a 1-1 draw at home to Frankfurt, will travel to Freiburg on Saturday, 10 January for their first game of the new year.

Club launches campaign to mark 125 years since groundbreaking 1901 FA Cup success - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

• Tottenham Hotspur is launching a campaign to commemorate 125 years since the Club’s ground-breaking FA Cup success – becoming the first and only ever non-league club to win football’s oldest cup competition

• A range of activities will take place between now and the 125th anniversary of the 1901 Final in April to commemorate the historic achievement

• A special edition 1901 kit to mark the historic achievement will be worn by our Men’s First Team during tomorrow’s FA Cup third round tie against Aston Villa

• A limited run of just 1,901 shirts will be made available for fans to purchase from the Spurs Retail Shop, online only, from 9am, tomorrow (Saturday 10 January)

Modern-day grassroots teams from the Tottenham area will be given the opportunity to have their own day in the limelight by participating in The Spurs Legacy Cup, to be launched later this year.

The 125th anniversary campaign will shine a spotlight on the heroes of yesteryear and the Club’s founding figures that laid the foundations for what Tottenham Hotspur has become today.

This includes Bobby Buckle, the Tottenham schoolboy that famously founded the club with a group of friends underneath a lamppost in 1882. It was his dream and vision that led Tottenham Hotspur to unprecedented glory just 19 years later.

Bobby’s grandson, Michael Mackman, said: "I’m sure my Grandad would be extremely proud to know that, 125 years on, the great club that he formed would still be celebrating that famous 1901 FA Cup campaign.

"Winning that trophy and overcoming the odds to defeat the best teams in the country at the time was the realisation of the dreams Bobby had for the club over the previous 19 years - he would never have imagined it would be the springboard for the club to reach the heights it would go on to reach.

"Tottenham Hotspur was formed in the community and Bobby would be extremely impressed that the club remains committed to and involved in that same community today.”

The special edition shirt features a heritage crest which, along with our sponsor logos, will appear in Lilywhite, and no player surnames feature on the back, with only the shirt number visible. The shirts will be auctioned via MatchWornShirt, with part of proceeds donated to the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to continue its work in local schools and transforming lives across the community.

From tomorrow (Saturday) at 9am, a limited run of just 1,901 shirts will be made available for fans to purchase from the Spurs Retail Shop, online only – delivering a unique collectors’ item ideal for any die-hard Spurs fan.

The product will be delivered in a premium presentation pack celebrating the shirt’s history, including player cards, a replica ticket of the 1901 Final, a certificate of authenticity with a limited-edition number, branded tissue paper and a wax seal marked “1901.”

The shirt is launched with an accompanying campaign film Carved From Our History, centring on a marble relief sculpture of the 1901 shirt, capturing every detail and texture of the shirt through exceptional craftsmanship, designed by artist Alasdair Thomson.

Duncan Pass, Merchandise & Licensing Director, Tottenham Hotspur said: “To mark 125 years since our groundbreaking FA Cup success in 1901, we want to bring what remains a historic achievement to the forefront of popular culture with what is a truly beautiful shirt, delivered in collaboration with Nike. Seeing the team step onto the pitch wearing a shirt inspired by the heroes of yesteryear is sure to capture the imagination of fans young and old, creating a unique collectors’ item that will itself go down in the club’s history.”

Presser Points | Spurs vs Leicester City, Women's Super League | Martin Ho - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Martin Ho spoke to the media at Hotspur Way on Friday morning, ahead of our Barclays Women’s Super League clash against Leicester City on Sunday (12noon UK).

Here are some key points on what he had to say..

Martin on how Signe Gaupset has settled into the group…

“She’s settled in really well. [She is] Shy as a person, as you can imagine when you come into a new environment and a new Club, the Club obviously being a lot bigger, the surroundings being a lot bigger and the infrastructure being a lot bigger, but she's trained really well. She's settled into the group on the pitch and I think that's maybe where she comes into her own a little bit, when she's on the pitch, she's more relaxed. You can see the level of quality she possesses on the pitch and then away from the pitch. She just needs to settle in with new environments, new culture and also then her surroundings personally. I'm really excited for her and, as a person, she's wonderful, she'll give you everything and she goes about her work very quietly.”

Martin on how Ashleigh Neville will be remembered after her departure from the Club earlier this week…

“She’s a wonderful person and I've alluded to this numerous times in my media, as people have probably seen. In terms of an iconic figure for this football club, she has been part of building this club and the success in helping us getting to the point of where it is now. She's a role model for a lot of young players and a lot of people within our fan base and the squad. The club will make sure that she's remembered in the right way.”

Martin on whether the younger players coming in signals a new era for the Club…

“We will balance the squad with experienced and young players. I think it's important that you have that blend of experience and youth, but we want to make sure that's done in the right way and make sure it's right for the team and for the Club. If you want to look at it as a new era for the team now, we can look at it that way. We're moving in a direction that the Club want to take the team. The Club is very ambitious in terms of where it sees the Women's team and where it wants it to go. I'm really excited to be a part of that and we just want to make sure that we get the right blend between youth and experienced players in the squad and, by doing that, I think it sets you up for success in the future.”

Martin on plans for the Asian Cup in March as Clare Hunt and Toko Koga will depart for their nations…

“We have wonderful players in there. Molly [Bartrip] is a wonderful player, vastly experienced and has a lot of quality. I want to make sure that when we go into that period that we're efficient, we have a plan in terms of what we want to do, and there'll be some adaptation in that part of the pitch 100 per cent. All three of those centre-backs are competing really well now in training and not just going into the Asian Cup, but going into all these league games coming up, they're pushing one another. When it comes to that point where the Asian Cup comes, we need to be adaptable, but we need to have a plan in place as you said and they're things we're already starting to think about.”

Martin asked on how he will ensure that the team build not on just this season, but the future to come…

“We’ve to make sure that we build on the platforms we've built at this moment in time, regarding performance and then the other aspects away from the pitch. I don't look at it from what was in the past, in terms of how it's been previously, I try to focus on what we can control and what I'm trying to apply here with the group of players and staff. I feel we're in a good place. Players and staff have come back in good spirits with good energy and the breaks enable that to happen, being with family and friends and people around them. Going into this second part of the season, we're optimistic. We want to make sure that we continue the work we're doing. We'll be better at it and, hopefully, have a strong second part of the season.”

Martin on the confidence going into the second half of the season and whether a FA Cup run is on the cards…

“Any competition we're in, whether it's the League Cup we were in, whether it's the FA Cup, whether it's the league, we want to make sure that we're competitive in all competitions and we'll do that moving forward. What I don't like to do is say we're going to get there or we're going to win this or we're going to do that because then you definitely open up something for yourself, but what I want to make sure is that we're competitive in all those competitions. Do we want to go and be in the final of an FA Cup? Of course we do. Do we want to be in the top part of the table? Of course we do. But our performances will determine that. Our consistency over the second part of the season will determine that. And if we do that, we put ourselves in a good position.”

Martin on this weekend’s clash against Leicester and Rick Passmoor…

“[It’s] a tough one. I think since Rick gone in there, he has done an outstanding job. They're well organised, they're very aggressive in terms of defensively and, then with the ball, they're very fluid and they're very dynamic going forward, so we know they're going to be a threat. I have a lot of respect for them as a team and I'm glad to see that they've proved a lot of people wrong. We know it's going to be a tough game and I don't think there's any game now that you go into where you think it's a kind of a gimme and you're going to come out with the result. You've got to earn it.”

Martin on Signe’s strongest position…

“When I was at Brann, she played as an eight or a 10, depending on how we played the game and how we settled, so either of those two positions. I think, long-term for her, she'd probably be more as an eight because of her power and speed. I think, as an eight, she can go box-to-box really well. She can play as an isolated ten, which I've been accustomed to when I was in Brann, but she's also played off one of the sides for the national team and worked inside as another midfielder or another central 10. She has the versatility to play in any of those positions and, whatever we set up the game plan and whatever I feel her skill set will be used more, we can use her in all of those three positions.”

Martin on the full-back options and Hanna Wijk coming in…

“I think you want to make sure that you've got different profiles in those positions, which I think we do. Football has now evolved and you see that a full-back isn't a full-back anymore. You see maybe sometimes central midfielders playing there and you sometimes see a centre-back playing there because of the profile that you want. The new players coming in, obviously, Julie [Blakstad] provides us with another option at left full-back. Then you've got Hanna, who's probably one of the up-and-coming talented players in the Sweden Under-23s, on the verge of the national team. She's a very, very experienced player at senior level and at national level, but also in European competition. The opportunity to bring Hanna here, when she had so much opportunity to go to other clubs in this league, was important. She's a young talent, but she's got lots of experience.”

Martin on bringing Maika Hamano in on loan…

“I think Maika got wonderful talent, wonderful ability and, as I said, when the opportunity presented itself, it was important that we could move and be part of that discussion to bring her here. My first discussion with her was very interactive, she's very personable and I know what she possesses and I felt that her qualities, where she can play in two or three different positions, would give us some cover in certain moments but also enable her to come in and put competition in certain positions. She gives us a different profile, a different dynamic and a technical ability. Then, off the ball, her pressing, her defensive capabilities and intelligence is very, very high and it's something that we wanted to add to the group.”

The Daly Brief | Spurs vs Aston Villa, FA Cup - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

"Aston Villa have won 13 of their last 16 Premier League games, in a remarkable turnaround since a tricky start. With European obligations as well as fighting at the top of the league table – how will they approach this FA Cup third round tie?"

Rob Daly, official club commentator, presenter and pundit

Can Spurs stop Morgan Rogers?

Morgan Rogers has hit peak form of late and the England international, World Cup bound, scored in Villa's win in N17 back in October. In fact, he has three goals and two assists in his last four games against Spurs. The 23-year-old looks most threatening in the number 10 position, but can operate on the left when Villa play their narrow attacking midfielders behind the striker – with Unai Emery able to move Youri Tielemans into a central advanced role. Rogers floats between the lines and is extremely dangerous carrying the ball up the pitch – but can also thread a perfectly weighted pass, as he did for Ollie Watkins goal in the impressive 2-1 comeback win at Chelsea recently. Seven goals and six assists so far this season is a good return, but the question is whether he plays – and to what extent the visitors rotate, if at all, on Saturday.

How will Emery approach the game?

Upon his first day through the door at Villa, Emery said it was his dream to win the club a first major trophy since 1996. Some have had them in the title race talk, but one imagines most Villa fans are looking at consolidating a Champions League spot, having had a taste of the competition, as the more realistic objective. They’re also flying in the Europa League with five wins from six games, sitting third in the league phase table, with Lyon, Betis, Freiburg, Porto, Roma, Lille and Bologna amongst the strongest teams. Emery is Mr Europa League, as a four-time winner (three with Sevilla, one with Villarreal) – and he’ll will surely have success in his sights. But the FA Cup is a viable route to glory too, especially given they’ve already beaten the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal this season. Last year in the third round, Emery went strong for a home test with Premier League opposition, making just three changes for a 2-1 victory over West Ham. Used midweek subs, like Emi Buendia, Donyell Malen and Ian Maatsen, will hope to come in.

Who starts in goal for Villa?

Aston Villa may not have goalkeeper Emi Martinez to call upon. The Argentina international came off at half-time in their midweek 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace with Emery confirming it could be 'a few days or weeks' until he’s available again due to a calf problem. Dutchman Marco Bizot came in and did well, making vital interventions to stop threatening Palace openings – replicating other impressive performances when he’s had to come in for Martinez this season. “He’s a really good guy, very good goalkeeper, he’s accepting, completely, his role and he’s performing progressively better,” explained Emery recently.

Has Tel claimed the left wing position?

A number of Spurs attacking players have been used out on the left side this season, but Mathys Tel’s showing in the 3-2 loss to Bournemouth gave further encouragement he could make it his own. His goal on five minutes was a product of the type of wide threat he can be, cutting in away from a full-back and getting a shot away. On a disappointing night, his industry and quality on the ball, especially squaring up to full-back Alex Jimenez, who he had the better of, felt like a notable positive.

Last time we met...
