Description

Yves Bissouma is in the running for the Premier League's Oracle's Most Powerful Goal award.

An award to recognise the goal which carried the fastest average speed from the ball being struck to crossing the goalline, Yves' maiden strike for the club is in the final shortlist of 10 goals competing for the honour.

Coming in our first home game of the campaign - a 4-0 win over Everton - the Mali international opened his account for the Club with a humdinger of an effort against the Toffees.

Finding the target in the 14th minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in August, Dejan Kulusevski cleverly cut the ball back to the edge of the area where the midfielder was primed to thrash the ball home in off the bar.

Watch - Yves' fires home against Everton

For the award, Yves faces competition from nine other players:

Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson (vs Southampton, 19 January), Aston Villa's Ross Barkley (vs Leicester, 4 January), Wolves' Matheus Cunha (vs Aston Villa, 21 September), Manchester City's Jeremy Doku (vs Fulham, 5 October), Newcastle United's Alexander Isak (vs Liverpool, 4 December), AFC Bournemouth's Justin Kluivert (vs Nott'm Forest, 25 January), Chelsea's Pedro Neto (vs Arsenal, 10 November), Arsenal's Declan Rice (vs Newcastle, 18 May) and AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo (vs Leicester, 25 May).

The winner of the award will be announced on Saturday 31 May.

UEL reflections | Destiny Udogie’s ‘chills’ and family feels for Mathys Tel - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Destiny Udogie admitted he was struggling for the words to describe his emotions as he spoke to us at Friday’s joyful parade to celebrate our UEFA Europa League triumph.

The full-back was outstanding after returning from injury to start both legs of the quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt, the semi-final against Bodo/Glimt and the final against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Looking out at the 10s of thousands of fans lining the streets, Destiny said: “It’s been amazing, winning the Europa League is a big achievement, everything was amazing. The day we came back to London, it was amazing, we knew we’d done something big, so, honestly, it was amazing. Honestly, I had chills, seeing all the fans so happy, it was beautiful - sometimes you just have to live in the moment.”

Asked later about the prospect of returning to Italy for the UEFA Super Cup against the winners of the Champions League – Inter or PSG, who face off in the UCL final in Munich on Saturday - in August, Destiny added: “I can’t wait - let’s bring another trophy home!”

Meanwhile Matys, who joined us on loan from Bayern Munich in January and featured five times in the UEL, told us: “This story was incredible for the club, the fans… I’m very happy. We did it and we deserve it. I’m playing football and playing to win trophies, so I believe in this team, this club and that’s why we did it. This is a big family with the fans, with everyone. It’s not just a club. It’s everything for us. We have to keep going and win again.”

Thomas on new deal: “This Club means a lot to me” - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Martha Thomas was full of excitement to extend her time in Lilywhite after putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Having signed a new contract through until 2028, the experienced forward is looking to build on her first two seasons at the Club, which includes plenty of highs and lows in that time.

Netting 10 goals in all competitions in her debut season in our colours, including that historic goal against Arsenal in the WSL and scoring the winner to send us to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final, the most recent campaign has been filled with challenges for the whole team.

Despite the difficult season in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Martha believes there’s much more to come from the group of players.

“I’m really happy to be here and stay here,” she told us. “This Club means a lot to me, so I’m excited to look forward to the future.”

“I know what this Club can achieve, obviously we had a good season last year, making the FA Cup Final and finishing higher in the league and I know with the group of players we have.

“We can put on better performances than we have of late, but we can achieve what we want to achieve and push for the goals.

“We want to finish higher in the league, we want to win more games, home and way, and we want to push for the silverware in cups. We got close last year by getting to the final, that was a big stepping stone for this Club and hopefully we can push more and achieve more in the coming years.”

While The Scotland international has contributed to some memorable moments in a Spurs shirt, she also hit a personal landmark in her footballing career this term.

Having made her WSL debut in 2019, following a spell in America, Martha made her 100th appearance in England’s top flight in our trip to West Ham United in March – an achievement that ‘little Martha’ thought would never happen.

“It’s a bit of a pinch myself moment, something that I need to remind myself is a great achievement and, although I’m nowhere near done yet, I hope to achieve more and continue to push,” she told us, reflecting on becoming the latest centurion in the WSL.

“Little ‘Martha’ would be buzzing… from kicking a football in the back garden with my brothers and dad, she would have never assumed she could have achieved this, so it really means a lot.”

New deal for Thomas - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

We are delighted to announce that Martha Thomas has signed a new contract with the Club, which will run until June, 2028.

Having joined us from Manchester United in September, 2023, the forward made an instant impact in our colours with a goal on debut in the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League season opener against Chelsea.

Scoring 10 goals in all competitions in her maiden campaign for us, she was at the heart of some memorable moments in the campaign, netting that historic goal against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to clinch our first-ever WSL win over the Gunners.

Martha then helped us create history in the FA Cup during the 2023/24 season by heading home the winner in the semi-final tie with Leicester City in N17, with her goal deep in extra-time taking us to the final for the first time in May, 2024.

A regular in our attacking line, the Scotland international has made 53 appearances for us across all competitions to date, scoring 11 goals in total, with seven of those coming in the WSL.

Our number 17 also reached a personal milestone in the WSL last season as she reached a century of appearances in England’s top flight in the clash with West Ham United in March, who she also spent two seasons with at the beginning of her career in the WSL.

On the international stage, the 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifying tournament with Scotland, scoring seven goals in their eight qualifiers to help her country finish top of their group.

Squad update | Ahtinen, Graham, Neville, Rybrink - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

We can confirm that we have exercised the option to extend the contracts of Ashleigh Neville, Olga Ahtinen, Kit Graham and Josefine Rybrink for a further year.

One of our longest-serving players, signed from Coventry United in the summer of 2017 ahead of our 2017/18 WSL Championship campaign, defender Ashleigh featured in 26 of our 27 matches in all competitions last season, including 21 of 22 in the WSL. She's now up to 178 appearances.

Finland international Olga joined us in August, 2023 and featured 16 times in all competitions in 2024/25. Sweden international Josefine made six appearances after joining us in the January transfer window.

Kit, meanwhile, continues her rehabilitation from a serious knee injury sustained in August last year, ruling her out for the entirety of last season. Now training back on the grass again, Kit was signed in 2019 and has made 84 appearances.

From our Women’s Under-21s squad, Persis Oteng, Emily McMaster, Liamara Hensel-Burg, Maia Lazaro, Eloise Hall and Elkie Bowyer have completed their time in our Academy and will depart the Club this summer.

Emily captained our Under-21s this term, making 27 appearances in the campaign, while also spending the second half of the season with Maidenhead United on a dual registration. Maia, Eloise and Elkie, who all spent a number of years in our Academy, also enjoyed spells at Watford, Bournemouth and Ipswich respectively to gain first team minutes at senior level.

Persis finished the Professional Game Academy (PGA) League campaign with 15 goals – 19 in all competitions – while goalkeeper Liamara featured for our Under-21s in the PGA League across two seasons, having joined the Academy set-up in 2023.

We wish Emily, Maia, Eloise, Elkie, Persis and Liamara all the best in the next stages of their career.

Further squad updates will be provided in due course.

Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson in Wales squad for World Cup qualifiers - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson have been selected by Wales for upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.

Head Coach Craig Bellamy named his 27-player squad on Wednesday (28 May) morning as the Dragons resume their European (UEFA) qualification campaign by hosting Liechtenstein at Cardiff City Stadium on 6 June and then face a trip to Belgium in Brussels at King Baudouin Stadium the following Monday (both 7.45pm UK).

During the previous international break in March, Ben helped his nation get off to a winning start in Group J with an assist and a third international goal in a 3-1 home win over Kazakhstan before David Brooks scored a 96th-minute equaliser to salvage a last-gasp 1-1 away draw in North Macedonia.

Brennan heads off to national team duty after finishing as our top goalscorer across the board with 11 goals in the Premier League and 18 in all competitions, with none more special than his trophy-winning strike in the UEFA Europa League Final on 21 May. The 24-year-old currently has 35 caps and five goals for his nation.

Compatriot Ben, who was part of our victorious squad out in Bilbao, is his nation's fourth most-capped player with 94 caps after moving ahead of Neville Southall - and he'll likely captain the side again with Aaron Ramsey not named.

The group winners seal a place at next summer's major tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada while four remaining spots will be determined by play-offs involving the 12 group runners-up and four teams from last year's UEFA Nations League phase.

James Maddison on Heung-Min Son: “I just said to him how much I loved him” - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

It was a moment to tug at the heart strings of all Spurs fans.

Seconds after the final whistle in Bilbao, Heung-Min Son and James Maddison embraced on the pitch, tears in their eyes – we’d done it, and, 10 years after signing for us, Sonny had achieved his dream of winning silverware. It wouldn’t be long before he lifted that famous UEL trophy, igniting days of celebrations and memories that will last forever.

“He’s one of the best humans I’ve ever met. I love him so much. I’m so happy he had that moment in Bilbao, lifting the trophy for this club, the club he loves. He’s been here for 10 years and to watch him and share that moment with him, all of this, this is our job, this is what we do, but as a human being, you will not meet a nicer man. How it treats everyone. How he treats my family every time he sees them. How he is with my children. He’s just a brilliant man and I’m so, so happy for him.”

Watch | The moment caught on camera

Speaking to Sky Sports at his annual Maddison Invitational golf tournament, which raises money for charitable causes, on Tuesday (27 May), Madders added: "I'll never forget that moment.

"Obviously I was injured for the final, I was on the sidelines so I couldn't sprint on when we won because of my knee injury, so it was the first time I saw him since the final whistle had gone so we just had a big hug and we both started crying like little babies.

"I just wanted to tell him in that moment exactly what he means to me. He means everything. When you see him every day, work as hard as he does, and try to change our perception. I've had two years here, he's had 10 years and he's one of the Premier League greats, so to see him do that I just wanted to tell him how proud of him I was and what he means to me."
