Odobert scores as spoils are shared with Hammers - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Wilson Odobert scored his first Premier League goal in our colours as derby day at the London Stadium ended all square on Sunday afternoon.

The French forward produced a composed finish to fire us ahead early on in his 13th appearance for us in the competition, only for Jarrod Bowen to level it up before the break in what was a London derby that lacked the usual intensity of these games, with the sides positioned 17th and 16th in the table at kick-off.

With this match sandwiched in between our two huge Europa League semi-finals against Bodø/Glimt, Ange Postecoglou made eight changes to the team that started against the first leg on Thursday night, including an entirely new back four with Archie Gray, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies and Djed Spence all featuring.

It was a low-key start to the game and we took a while to get into any rhythm, yet took the lead in the 15th minute with a gift of an opportunity from the Hammers. Max Kilman had time to clear the ball but twice it against hit Mathys Tel, the second time allowing the forward to slide a cross into the area which found an unmarked Odobert, who coolly tucked home past the onrushing Alphonse Areola.

We were pegged back with the next chance in the game on 28 minutes as Aaron Wan-Bissaka slid a pass down the inside right channel for Bowen and, despite a very tight angle, he slipped the ball through the legs of Guglielmo Vicario to make it 1-1. Richarlison blazed over the bar with a difficult chance shortly after and had a better one five minutes before the break, put through with a lovely pass from Tel but chose to cross from a tight angle rather than try to finish as Bowen had done earlier and there was no-one on hand to apply the finishing touch.

There was a bit more life to the game as the second half opened up and we created an opportunity six minutes in when Pape Matar Sarr played a pass in behind Jean-Clair Todibo for Tel, whose final side-footed effort was easily saved by Areola, before Richarlison drilled over again from 15 yards out under real pressure from Kilman. At the other end, Bowen’s curling half-volley from the corner of the box flew just wide.

We made a change in the 68th minute as Mikey Moore stepped off the bench for Richarlison, the youngster’s first senior appearance since our FA Cup tie with Aston Villa on 9 February and, as both sides tried to work their way towards a winner, we went close on 79 minutes as Sarr’s fizzing effort just cleared the West Ham crossbar. It needed a wonderful save from Vicario to maintain parity a couple of minutes later, diving to his left to tip away Bowen’s flick from a James Ward-Prowse free-kick out in the left flank, while the last action of the game saw Ward-Prowse line up a dangerous free-kick 25 yards out from a central area, but he fired a yard wide and we headed home with a point.

Obituary | Ken Hancock - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our former goalkeeper, Ken Hancock, who died at the age of 87 on Sunday 27 April.

Ken’s first appearance for Spurs was in Atlanta against Aston Villa during a pre-season tour of North America, two months after signing from Ipswich Town in March 1969. Understudy to Pat Jennings during his two-year stay in N17, he made four senior appearances in our colours. His competitive debut came at Sunderland in January, 1970, and the following season he featured against Arsenal, Swansea City in the League Cup and Crystal Palace in September, 1970.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent on 25 November, 1937, Ken spent five years as an amateur with Stoke City and, after national service with the Staffordshire Regiment, he joined boyhood club Port Vale in late 1958 and turned professional soon after his arrival.

He helped them win the Fourth Division title in 1958/59 and was almost ever-present over the next six years, making 269 appearances for Vale. He moved to Ipswich Town in December, 1964 and was a member of their 1967/68 Second Division championship-winning team.

Signed by Bill Nicholson to provide experienced cover for Jennings, he was a popular figure around the club and helped to bring through young goalkeepers of the time, such as Barry Daines and Terry Lee.

Ken left us for Bury in July, 1971, before a spell with Stafford Rangers and then moved in to coaching, spending time back at Port Vale in 1975 and managing non-league Leek Town for the 1978/79 season. He later co-founded Port Vale’s Ex-Players’ Association.

He leaves behind wife Julia, son Paul, daughter Shelby, son-in-law Richard, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Cara, Taylor, George, Jamie, Molly and Charlie and great-granddaughter Nora-Rae.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.

Under-18s in Chelsea stalemate - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Both sides hit the woodwork but there was to be no breakthrough as our Under-18s battled out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Hotspur Way on Saturday.

After a first half of few chances, the Blues twice hit the inside of the post through Reggie Walsh – who made his senior debut for Chelsea in their Europa Conference League win over Djurgarden on Thursday – and substitute Kobe Barbour in the second period, before Luca Williams-Barnett’s angled strike was tipped onto the crossbar by Jack Austin seven minutes from time in our best chance to scoop maximum points.

With neither side able to conjure up a winner, the match ended in our first 0-0 draw at this level since October, 2021, and our first in the league since December, 2020. The share of the spoils, along with results elsewhere, also mathematically ended our chances of winning the Under-18 Premier League southern division, although we still have two games to play over the coming week.

The first half was quiet in terms of real chances, although Tynan Thompson provided a spark five minutes before the break with a fierce angled drive from the left which forced Austin into a save. Samal Bangura fired over the bar moments later after some good build-up play, while Sol Gordon sent a volley spinning fractionally off-target for Chelsea in stoppage time at the end of that period.

Both teams traded chances after the break with Frankie Runham drilling across goal and wide for the visitors, while half-time substitute Williams-Barnett saw his shot from the edge of the box parried by Austin. Chelsea then hit the frame of the goal twice in the space of eight minutes, Walsh’s effort bouncing back off the far upright and into the arms of goalkeeper Sam Archer following a counter-attack before Barbour latched onto a long ball out from the back and saw his deflected shot hit the post and rebound across the face of goal on the hour mark.

Jun’ai Byfield cleared from virtually on our goal-line as Olutayo Subuloye threatened from a corner before we went close on the break in the 83rd minute. Williams-Barnett burst down the right and had substitute Leon Myrtaj up in support, but opted to go it alone and unleashed a superb angled shot, which Austin somehow tipped onto the bar. The ball bounced down on the line and Chelsea were able to get it away to safety. Williams-Barnett tested Austin again a few minutes later with a rasping shot from 20 yards, but it was close enough to the keeper for him to save it and that turned out to be the final chance of the contest.

‘Really positive to keep a clean sheet’

Under-18s Coach Stuart Lewis felt the 0-0 scoreline was probably a fair result and was pleased with the defensive performance of his side.

He told SPURSPLAY: “I thought it was a really high-level Under-18 game, both teams had opportunities to win it but from our point of view it was really positive to keep a clean sheet. We’ve had a tough week, a really good development week for the players and to come away with a point, probably on reflection it’s a fair result.

“There were some moments in the second half where we had to defend really well and I think we’ve really improved on that aspect of the game with the blocks and being first to the ball in our box. We hit the bar at the end through Luca Williams-Barnett – a brilliant save from their keeper – and they obviously hit the woodwork a couple of times too, but it was a really tight affair. We’ll reflect on it and review it and then finish off the season hopefully with two positive results. We’ll look forward to Wednesday here against Fulham and then away to West Brom but this was a really elite-level Under-18 game.”

Getting to the stadium

The Aspmyra Stadion is located centrally within Bodø and is a 10-15 minute walk away from the airport and most hotels.

Local police have advised that away supporters walking to the stadium from the Hundholmen Brygghus and from the city centre use the street of Torvgata, which will be controlled and staffed allowing away fans the simplest entry process. Use of this route will not be enforced.

Supporters should note that this stand is completely uncovered and therefore exposed to the weather. There are two turnstiles at the visitors’ entrance. Upon entry, there is one pathway to the seating area. We kindly ask supporters for their patience when entering the stadium and the seating area as there may be queues during busier periods.

A three-step entry process will be in place, meaning fans will have their tickets initially checked and will be searched before being able to enter. Neck warmers and scarves are permitted, however, fans should not cover their face during the entry process.

Tottenham Hotspur stewards and staff will be present at the entrance and inside the stadium, on hand to assist supporters.

Supporters with Category 1 tickets

Any supporters requiring a medical exemption to the bag policy are advised to contact the Club in advance of travel at access@tottenhamhotspur.com.

Concourse and payments

Supporters are advised that concourse facilities are limited in the visitors’ section, so there may be queues for toilets and food and drink at peak periods.
