Under-21s suffer narrow loss at Enfield Town - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Enfield Town capitalised on their second-half pressure to edge out our Under-21s on Tuesday night.

In a well-contested pre-season friendly at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, just down the road from our Training Centre, we deservedly made a breakthrough via captain Reiss Russell-Denny in the run-up to half-time after Lamar Reynolds had given the hosts the lead.

But with wholesale changes made at the break, we found ourselves on the back foot at times in the second period and paid the price just beyond the hour mark when one of Town's trialist players restored his side's advantage. Reiss Elliott-Parris saw a late attempt cleared virtually off the line by defender Ethan Cann in the closing moments, but in truth we struggled to impact the game enough in the final third and it remained 2-1 to our near neighbours.

A healthy crowd packed into the ground as usual for this popular pre-season fixture, which has become a tradition in recent years, and in the first half those in attendance witnessed youngster Luca Williams-Barnett produce a bright performance, often driving into space and playing some clever passes out into the wide areas. After Reynolds blasted wastefully wide for Town early on, it was Williams-Barnett who set up Oli Irow to poke a shot just past the post under pressure for us, but we came unstuck with a long ball down the pitch mid-way through the first period as Tommy Wood flicked a header on for Reynolds, who slotted beyond Sam Archer one-on-one to put his side in front.

Williams-Barnett again threatened, getting to the near post on the left and knocking a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but unluckily for us there was nobody in position to convert. Nevertheless, we persisted with our attacking play and levelled five minutes before the interval when Russell-Denny picked the pocket of Ruaridh Donaldson, ran through and fired routinely past goalkeeper Rhys Forster to equalise.

Williams-Barnett and fellow Under-18s attacker Tynan Thompson were the only players to stay on for the second half as coach Wayne Burnett made nine substitutions at the break, but within seconds of the restart we were in trouble as Town substitute Harry Ludovica was brought down in the box and won a penalty. The same player stepped up to take it, but smashed it against the crossbar.

We weathered the hosts' pressure in the next phase of the game but struggled to impose ourselves at the other end, Elliott-Parris' header from Dan Batty's right-wing cross flying wide of the near post as we conjured up a rare attempt at goal. Seconds later, though, with 61 minutes on the clock, we fell behind once more after a fine solo effort from Town's trialist.

We almost grabbed another equaliser 12 minutes from time when Batty caused problems for substitute goalkeeper Adi Connolly, who was committed in the middle of the box, but when Elliott-Parris latched onto the loose ball and fired towards the empty net, Cann made a vital block to keep the hosts in front. Bayley Brown nearly added a third for Enfield Town in the closing stages but, even in defeat, there were some individual plus points for us on the night, with the new Premier League 2 season looming large.

Thomas Frank on the Tour: “It gave us a lot of answers”

Thomas Frank on the Tour: “It gave us a lot of answers” - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Thomas Frank was delighted with the competitiveness of our matches against Arsenal and Newcastle in Hong Kong and Korea as the 2025/26 season draws ever closer.

We came out on top in the first NLD played outside the UK thanks to Pape Matar Sarr's strike from 40 yards last Thursday before a 1-1 draw against the Toon at Seoul’s World Cup Stadium on Sunday.

Bundesliga champions FC Bayern are next up in Munich on Thursday (5.30pm) - watch live on SPURSPLAY - and then the countdown to 25/26 really begins in earnest with the UEFA Super Cup against UCL champions PSG in Udinese on Wednesday week (13 August, 8pm UK) and our Premier League opener at home to Burnley on Saturday 16 August (3pm).

Reflecting on the games on Tour, Thomas said: “I’m very pleased with two good competitive games. I think that gave us a lot of answers, showed us a lot of good bits, showed us also what we need to work on, some really good individual performances, that’s good. Overall, good, the only big minus is (injury to) Maddison.

“Newcastle, they were extremely competitive, a fantastic test for us. A lot of good things to take away from the game, but also a lot of things we like to like to do better and improve.

“I think we started really well, really aggressive, scored good goal through Brennan, very aggressive in our high pressure, won the ball four, five, six times high, and could have created even more out of that in the last third with a killer pass.

“Then we got a little bit too deep at times, but then also had a big chance to Mathys. Second half, I thought we were more on top again, especially towards the end of the game, the high pressure was again better after some of the stops. We scored a good goal through high pressure, conceded a goal where we were not as good with the high pressure. That’s what we need to learn from.

“There was so much to learn from this game, and I'm actually happy that Newcastle, at times, made it a little difficult for us with their high pressure, but also at times we showed we can win it high and go the other way. So, we take the positives out of it and we'll adjust some things as well.”

Palhinha chooses squad number, reveals poignant meaning to him - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

We can announce that new arrival João Palhinha will wear the number six shirt for our men’s first team.

The tough-tackling central midfielder joined us on loan from FC Bayern at the weekend and has elected to wear the shirt vacated by Radu Dragusin’s decision to switch to number three.

As the 30-year-old explained, it’s a jersey that has a poignant meaning to him.

“I try to choose always a number with a six – sometimes it’s not available but since I started my career, it was a number that I’ve had with me because of my family,” explained the Portugal international, who wore 66 and latterly 6 at Sporting CP, 26 at Fulham and 16 at Bayern.

“It means a lot for me because of my grandfather… it’s the day that he left our family and since my grandfather died, if I have a look, a lot of important things in my life have happened on this day, with the number six. I can remember my first goal... everything that has been important in my career – not just the career, but in other things as well – most of the days have the number six.

“I’m a bit superstitious and I believe always that this number has an important meaning for me and my family and this is why I want to keep, if possible, the number with me on the shirt.”

Our new 2025/26 home and away kits are now available to purchase with João’s name and number on the back via our Spurs Shops and online.

Supporters are reminded that, aside from Radu Dragusin (3) and new signing Mohammed Kudus (20), squad numbers for all players remain subject to change, with the full finalised list to be confirmed when the club submits its final squad list to the Premier League prior to the opening weekend of the 2025/26 season. Description

We can confirm that Radu Dragusin has elected to wear the number three shirt for our men’s first team moving forward.

The 23-year-old defender, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation following knee surgery earlier this year, has worn the number six jersey since his arrival from Genoa in January, 2024.

However, with immediate effect, the Romania international switches to number three – the same number he wears for his country.

“I feel like this number represents me,” he said. “I have been wearing it in the national team since three years ago and I just feel it really represents who I am – someone who is always ready to give everything for the team. Now, I’m really proud to wear it in north London.”

Supporters are reminded that, aside from Radu and new signing Mohammed Kudus, who has been confirmed to wear number 20, squad numbers for all players remain subject to change, with the full finalised list to be confirmed when the club submits its final squad list to the Premier League prior to the opening weekend of the 2025/26 season. Joining the Club’s Academy in August, 2022, Will made his competitive first team debut in October, 2024, featuring in a UEFA Europa League victory over Ferencvaros.

The striker went on to make three appearances in that competition, scoring his first senior goal in our league phase fixture away to Galatasaray. He’s made six senior appearances for us in all competitions to date.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, gaining valuable experience in the Championship as he featured 11 times for the Baggies.

Description

Our Under-21s return to action in the traditional and ever-popular pre-season friendly at Enfield Town on Tuesday night (5 August, 7.45pm UK).

Played at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, just a short distance from our Training Centre, every year since 2018, the fixture always draws a healthy crowd, with a great chance to see some of our young professionals in action in the club’s locality.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (over-65s and students) and £1 for under-16s. They can be purchased online in advance or at the turnstiles on the night.

The match comes off the back of a useful week-long training camp for Wayne Burnett’s side in the Algarve.

In addition to their daily sessions, the squad played back-to-back training matches against teams representing a pair of Portuguese second-division sides on Saturday, with Luca Williams-Barnett notably scoring an 11-minute hat-trick after coming off the bench in a 5-2 victory in the first match. Reiss Elliott-Parris and Callum Olusesi also hit the target, before Williams-Barnett and Oli Irow secured a 2-0 win in the latter game.

Our Under-21s will also this week learn their Premier League 2 fixtures for the new campaign.

“I told him the club is amazing!” – Pedro Porro on his conversation with Palhinha - Tottenham Hotspur
Description

Pedro Porro revealed he spoke with his good friend and our new signing Joao Palhinha ahead of his move to north London.

Pals from their Sporting CP days where they played alongside each other between 2020 and 2022, the duo are now set to be reunited after Joao completed his loan move to the club from FC Bayern.

First meeting as Pedro made the loan move from Manchester City to Sporting five years ago, the pair went on to play over 50 times together in the green and white hoops of the Lisbon-based side – and became good friends in the process.

So, we thought there could be no one better to give us a bit of insight into our new Portuguese midfielder than our Spanish full-back… only for it to be revealed that Joao had already reached out to him to find out more about our storied club.

“I’ve spoken with him already!” Pedro smiled as we asked for his reaction to the signing. “He asked me everything about Spurs. Things as well like where you live… Of course, Palhinha lived in London when he was at Fulham but that’s a long way away from our training ground. It may be London, but the traffic is crazy so he asked me, I spoke with him, and he was relaxed.

“I spoke with him and told him that the club is amazing. You have everything here. The most important thing is that when you play well, it is incredible. Of course, I’m happy he’s coming. When you have a team-mate maybe three years ago… I’ve since played against him when he was at Bayern and against him when he was with Fulham. He’s a good guy. I like him.

“He’s also excited to come here. When I arrived at Sporting, Palhinha is the one person in my life that I had the best relationship with in the dressing room. We’re good friends. For us, this signing is very, very good because he is a good person. That is the most important thing, that he is a good person. I think the people here will like him.

“On the pitch, he is consistent, a hard-working person, a little bit aggressive. I like Palhinha because, to play in his position (central midfield), you need that aggression when the ball is in your half. And that is the best attribute of Palhinha – that aggression. I’ve seen it in training and it’s similar in games. If there’s one person who likes aggression and intensity, it’s Palhinha – and that is good for us.”
