John Mousinho has provided a three-word update over Pompey’s next piece of transfer business.

The Blues kick-started the new Championship campaign on a winning note on Saturday afternoon, with a 1-0 victory against Oxford United.

Adrian Segecic’s 38th-minute debut goal was enough to steal the three points at the Kassam Stadium for Pompey’s new-look side.

Six new faces have so far arrived through the doors at Fratton Park as Mousinho looked to build on last season’s 16th-placed finish on their return to the second tier.

Segecic has been joined by John Swift, Mark Kosznovszky, Luke Le Roux, Florian Bianchini and Yang Min-hyeok in making the switch to the south coast in the transfer window.

John Mousinho’s Pompey transfer update

With the Spurs winger the latest to seal his switch to PO4 on Friday afternoon, the head coach, though, isn’t expecting any imminent arrivals.

When asked by BBC Radio Solent if the Blues were close to any further addition, Mousinho simply replied saying: ‘I don’t think so, no nothing’.

There were four debutantes at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Swift, Min-hyeok, Segecic and Bianchini all featuring, while Kosznovszky and Le Roux were unused substitutes.

The South Korean international became Pompey’s sixth signing of the window and was registered in time to make his first appearance off the bench - replacing the Swansea loanee on the hour mark.

Indeed, Mousinho was impressed with the impact the Spurs youngster had on the side having only been announced just 24 hours prior to kick-off.

John Mousinho on Spurs’ Yang Min-hyeok

The head coach said: ‘Min-hyeok is a player ever since he - I’d say - burst onto the scene with QPR after coming over and signing for Tottenham in January was very good last season.

‘I saw him on a Friday night when QPR beat Derby 4-0, he was excellent on the night and I was grateful he didn’t start at Fratton Park a week later.

‘I thought he showed some real glimpses today, plenty to improve upon and plenty to work on but it was a bit of a baptism of fire throwing in a 19-year-old to go and see the game out.

‘Really pleased with him and we’re happy to make another addition in those wide areas. We’re looking to keep building on that.’

Although Colby Bishop was fit to start Saturday’s curtain raiser against Oxford United, there was a surprise absentee, with Josh Murphy not named in the squad.

The winger was sidelined after sustaining a slight hamstring issue in the final pre-season friendly against PEC Zwolle, but Mousinho believes the 30-year-old could be back as early as next week.

Meanwhile, Marlon Pack was missing due to a knee problem, while Jacob Farrell’s absence was down to selection.

Pompey have completed a season-long loan deal for winger Yang Min-hyeok.

The 19-year-old arrives from Spurs for the campaign to bolster the Blues’ resources going forward.

Yang becomes Pompey’s sixth new face of the summer and second loan arrival, following deals for Adrian Segecic, John Swift, Mark Kosznovszky, Luke Le Roux and Florian Bianchini.

The South Korea international would’ve needed to be registered by midday today to feature in the Championship opener at Oxford United tomorrow.

Yang arrived at Spurs on a long-term deal from South Korea outfit Gangwon last summer, before joining QPR on loan in January.

The direct runner made 14 appearances at Loftus Road, returning two goals and an assist.

Former QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has given a glowing reference over winger Yang Min-hyeok as he closes in on a move to Pompey.

The Blues are closing in on a move for the talented 19-year-old from Tottenham Hotspur, as first reported by The News on Tuesday.

The South Korean is on John Mousinho’s radar, who is looking to bolster his options out wide following the arrival of Florian Bianchini last week.

Reports elsewhere have claimed a move for Min-hyeok are progressing, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke suggesting a Fratton Park medical has been booked.

That’s ahead of a loan move from north London, with Thomas Frank giving the green light for a number of Spurs youngsters to depart on a temporary basis this summer.

The young forward spent the second half of last season with QPR, where he netted two goals and provided one assist in 14 outings.

Indeed, it proved a hugely successful loan at Loftus Road, with Min-hyeok becoming hugely popular with fans and boss Cifuentes.

The head coach, who departed the Hoops in April, highlighted the winger’s appearance from the bench against the Blues in a 2-1 defeat as a standout performance as he continued to adjust to life in the Championship.

Speaking to Toby Bryant from our sister paper, London World, in March, Cifuentes said: ‘He’s progressing, doing well. The last two games at home especially, he did well. The impact from the bench against Portsmouth was very positive.

‘He’s growing, learning our way of playing and the pace of the game. He’s doing good things and is still a young lad that needs to keep learning and improving some areas.

‘His attitude is top. He is dangerous and has the pace to go forward, get in behind and go one vs one.’

Yang-min-hyeok’s career to date

After coming through the ranks with K-League outfit Gangwon, Min-hyeok registered his first-team debut aged 17.

He went on to net 12 goals and register six assists in 38 appearances in the South Korean top flight during the 2024 campaign before sealing a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 1.

The one-cap South Korea international was shipped straight out to QPR during the transfer window, where he amassed 14 outings as the Hoops finished 17th in the Championship.

Pompey have already added five new faces to the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, which gets underway on Saturday with a trip to Oxford United.

John Mousinho on new Pompey loans

With Mim-hyeok expected to become the Blues’ second loan arrival of the summer, Mousinho has revealed his side have been working on further additions who will come in on temporary deals.

He told The News: ‘I don’t know if we will fill all five slots (in terms of loans), we’ll probably keep a little bit back for January.

‘But over the past week we’ve seen clubs come back off tours and Monday night Liverpool played a double header at Anfield, so clearly they kept their players back for that. That’s just an example, but they kept their best young players back to play in those two games.

‘Arsenal have done that for when they have two games in two days coming up and Premier League sides quite rightly keep hold of their players until later on.

‘We are looking to the loans market and there’s a couple now potentially available to us we’ve been working on this week.

‘Most of the clubs just let you know pretty quickly when they are ready to release the players. They let the agents know and put the circulars out and people start to move.

‘Spurs are one club who this week let Jamie Donley go to Stoke, (Will) Lankshear to Oxford and George Abbott to Wycombe. So that’s what tends to happen, when last week there was none available.’

John Mousinho has confirmed Pompey are advanced in their chase for loan recruits.

And the Blues boss has highlighted Spurs are now letting their young players leave, as they eye a deal for South Korean international winger Yang Min-hyeok.

Pompey boss: ‘Couple now available we’ve been working on this week’

Pompey are progressing with their transfer business, with three-and-a-half weeks left of the summer window and five signings made so far.

Florian Bianchini is the single temporary business conducted so far, after the Frenchman arrived from Swansea City for the season last week.

The News revealed Pompey’s interest in Yang on Tuesday, with the 19-year-old spending the second half of last season with Championship rivals QPR.

Mousinho confirmed there are now deals available to his side, with talks moving forward over a move coming to fruition.

The Pompey boss told The News: ‘I don’t know if we will fill all five slots (in terms of loans), we’ll probably keep a little bit back for January.

‘But over the past week we’ve seen clubs come back off tours and Monday night Liverpool played a double header at Anfield, so clearly they kept their players back for that. That’s just an example, but they kept their best young players back to play in those two games.

‘Spurs are one club who this week let Jamie Donley go to Stoke, (Will) Lankshear to Oxford and George Abbott to Wycombe. So that’s what tends to happen, when last week there was none available.’

West Ham Potts deal show loans can open up late

Although the loan market is now moving, Mousinho does see temporary opportunities emerging late in the summer transfer window. That proved the case last summer with Freddie Potts, as Pompey made their keenness clear to both the player and West Ham - but then had to be patient to see a dead sanctioned.

Mousinho added: ‘Fred (Potts) is a good example, I don’t think Fred became available until late in August.

‘We spoke to Fred early and West Ham knew that. We said there’s an opportunity if you’re available later in the summer, Fred then spent time with the first team and then came out towards the back end.

‘That happens, so we just have wait and see what happens in the loan market but we’re definitely looking to add.’

Pompey are monitoring Spurs' Yang Min-hyeok as they pursue strengthening their attacking options.

John Mousinho added Florian Bianchini to his squad last week, with the Frenchman making an instant impact by creating Thomas Waddingham’s late winner against PEC Zwolle.

Yet the Blues still want another winger, with highly-regarded South Korea international Yang attracting their interest for a potential loan deal.

The 19-year-old signed a six-year deal with Spurs in July 2024 after joining them from K League 1 side Gangwon, although didn’t join the Premier League club until January.

He subsequently moved on loan to QPR for the second half of last season, making 14 appearances, scoring twice and producing one assist.

Featured against Newcastle on Sunday

Yang has since been involved with Thomas Frank’s first pre-season as head coach, featuring twice during their friendly schedule to date, and therefore delaying any potential move.

He replaced James Maddison after he was stretchered off on Sunday with a serious knee injury in a friendly against Newcastle in Seoul, South Korea.

The match, which saw Yang handed a four-minute cameo from the bench, is likely to have also signalled compatriot Son Heung-min’s last appearance for Spurs as he finalises a move to Los Angeles FC.

Regardless, Yang’s ongoing involvement in their pre-season had delayed any potential loan switch, with a number of Championship clubs keen on recruiting him.

That wait will continue, with Spurs next in action on Thursday night, when they travel to Bayern Munich for their final friendly of the summer.

Frank’s men are also scheduled to meet PSG in the Uefa Super Cup final on August 13, ahead of the Premier League start, yet Yang could well be allowed out before then.

Eight starts for QPR last season

The talented teenager largely operated as a right winger during his QPR loan spell last season, although started a 1-1 draw against Bristol City at centre-forward in April.

Pompey, however, have identified him as a candidate to play wide, with Mousinho currently short of options in that area following Paddy Lane’s sale to Reading, Harvey Blair’s long-term injury and Matt Ritchie having no Fratton Park future.

During Yang’s time at QPR, he made eight starts, while appeared as a 68th-minute substitute in their 2-1 defeat against the Blues.

Although, following three successive starts, he didn’t feature in Rangers’ last two matches as they finished 15th last season, one place above Pompey.

International debut for South Korea in March

Yang also made his South Korea debut in March, after coming off the bench in a World Cup qualifier against Jordan, which ended 1-1.

During Spurs’ pre-season he was an unused substitute against Reading last month, although replaced new signing Mohammed Kudos in the 77th minute during a friendly at Luton.

The winger was then included in the squad for the Premier League club’s two-match Asia Tour, although remained on the bench for last week’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Kai Tak Stadium, Hong Kong.

He was used, however, in Sunday’s Newcastle clash, replacing the injured substitute Maddison in the 86th minute.

Pompey presently have four remaining match-day loan slots, with Bianchini their only summer recruit taken on loan so far.

They have also signed Adrian Segecic, John Swift, Mark Kosznovszky and Luke Le Roux, all of which featured in Saturday's 1-0 win over PEC Zwolle in their final friendly before the Championship kicks off.

Alfie Whiteman has departed Pompey after aiming to earn a Fratton future.

John Mousinho has confirmed the man who left Spurs this summer has also moved on from PO4, after a period on trial with the Blues.

Pompey make Spurs keeper call

But Mousinho has stated his club will still look to add another keeper to their ranks in the coming weeks, as their transfer plans roll on.

Whiteman has been training with Pompey in pre-season, after ending a 10-year association with the London Premier League outfit over the past couple of months.

The 26-year-old featured in the opening pre-season win at Woking and also played in the behind-closed-doors success over Crawley.

But Whiteman didn’t feature at Reading at Saturday and was not involved with Hawks at Westleigh Park last night.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw, Mousinho confirmed the Londoner has now moved on from his stay with Pompey.

He said: ‘Alfie’s no longer with us on trial and he hasn’t been with us this week, but we’ll be keeping a keen eye on where Alfie ends up.’

Despite Whiteman departing PO4, Mousinho has made it clear Pompey are looking to work with four keepers in the first-team group next season.

Nico Schmid is the club’s established first-choice after an outstanding maiden campaign at PO4, with Ben Killip and Jordan Archer the back-up options for the Austrian.

Archer was linked with a move to League Two side Salford, with Mousinho indicating this week he wouldn’t stand in the former Millwall man’s way if he wants to move on.

Toby Steward is Pompey’s other keeping option with the academy graduate spending the campaign on loan north of the border with St Johnstone.

Mousinho acknowledged there’s not a wealth of suitable keeper options available to the Blues at present, but he does think that situation could change over the next couple of weeks.

Pompey push on with keeper transfers search

He said: ‘I still think we need four goalkeepers and we’ve spoken about the reason for that.

‘It’s probably not the number one priority for us at the minute, but we’ll see where we are with that over the next 10 days with that.

‘It’s probably not really a brilliant market for that at the moment, but it’s something for training purposes and just strengthening the goalkeeping department in general we want to add.’

Speaking earlier this week about the reasons for wanting four keepers, Mousinho said: ‘We want to make sure we have strength in depth in the goalkeeping department, but it's a hard one because if you've got a number one, like we do with Nico, sometimes that can be hard to attract people to the football club.

‘Nico deserves that position, though, off the back of last season and what he has done with Austria.

‘We do speak about wanting to have four goalkeepers and a lot of the time that’s for training standards. We play a lot of small-sided games where we have two pitches going on at the same time, and in order to do that to a high level, you need to have four goalkeepers.

‘We are trying to strengthen that department, that’s the reason we want to end up with four.’

Pompey boss John Mousinho has revealed the identity of his squad’s latest triallist.

The Blues boss has confirmed keeper Alfie Whiteman is training with his first-team set-up, after leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

And Pompey will consider offering Whiteman a deal, as they look to work with four goalkeepers next season.

Isle of Wight man Stuart Moore was with the first team in Slovakia last week, after leaving Morecambe this summer.

But it’s Whiteman who’s now joined the goalkeeping department, featuring in the second half of Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Woking.

The Londoner was not involved in last night’s 5-0 victory at National League South outfit Farnborough, but will continue to train under goalkeeping coach Joe Prodomo.

Mousinho explained Whiteman is set to feature, as Pompey’s pre-season programme continues at Crawley this weekend. He will continue to work with Nico Schmid, who made his maiden pre-season appearance last night, Jordan Archer and Ben Killip.

Pompey will then weigh up whether to offer Whiteman a Fratton future, with emerging keeper Toby Steward on loan at Scottish side St Johnstone for the season.

Mousinho said: ‘We changed the two keepers last night, that was all (why Whiteman wasn’t there) and that was the plan.

‘So Alfie’s still here, training with us and will probably feature at the weekend. It’s one where we’re looking at the situation.

‘One thing we’re keen to do is have four goalkeepers. One reason for that is for squad depth, but it’s also really beneficial for training.

‘All of the time, or pretty much every single week we’re going to have training sessions where we use four goalkeepers because we have two small-sided games.

‘We need that quality because we’ve stepped up a level from where we’ve been for the past couple of years.

‘We have let Toby go out on loan so rather than have training goalkeepers or ruining an academy session it’s really important for us to have that squad depth.’

Whiteman’s had a long association with Spurs, signing for the academy 10 years ago before going on to earn a three-year professional contract in 2019. He went on to have two loan spells with Swedish outfit Degefors, picking up 34 appearances in his two stays with the club.

Whiteman’s only senior Spurs came in a second-half Europa League cameo appearance against Bulgarian side Ludogorets in 2020.

Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Oxford United are among those who’ve been linked with the keeper since his exit from the Premier League side.

Speaking of his back-up role at Spurs, Whiteman told The Times this summer: 'Some people think it’s just training and then going home at 1 pm and watching movies, but it’s prepping for games tactically, intense training for the subs the day after while the starters are on recovery, it’s very hard work every day.

'The games are what people see, but the day-to-day you feel part of it. It might not be in my appearances column on Wikipedia, but I don’t think you get to a final if you’re not one big team working to achieve something. I feel extremely lucky, but there is always that conflict because the dream is to be out there.'
