Tottenham Hotspur have been fined £75,000 after they admitted two breaches of FA Rules during their 3-0 victory against Manchester United last season. Spurs defeated United four times across all competitions, with the first coming in a Premier League clash during September.

Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kuluseveski and Dominic Solanke all scored as Erik ten Hag's side were comfortably beaten in a match where club captain Bruno Fernandes was also sent off. The charge relates to Tottenham's failure to ensure spectators conducted themselves in a 'orderly fashion' after derogatory chants were aired twice in the second half of the match, which included foul language towards United midfielder Mason Mount and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Tottenham admitted they breached FA Rule E21 with crowd control misconduct, but have seen their initial fine of £150,000 reduced by an independent Appeal Board after an appeal from the club.

Tottenham guilty of two FA Rule breaches

An official statement released by the Football Association on Thursday read: "Tottenham Hotspur FC has been fined £75,000 for two breaches of FA Rule E21 with crowd control misconduct at its Premier League match against Manchester United FC on Sunday 29 September 2024.

"It was alleged that Tottenham Hotspur FC failed to ensure its spectators and or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don’t use words or otherwise behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting way with either an express or implied reference to sexual orientation around both the 49th and 79th minutes.

"Tottenham Hotspur FC admitted both charges, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed an action plan, £150,000 fine and warning. An independent Appeal Board reduced the fine to £75,000 following an appeal by the club."

The supporting documents surrounding the case confirmed the FA received reports from Kick It Out, as well as the media two incidents of homophobic chanting during the match. The first came in the 49th minute regarding chants towards former Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after a foul on Rodrigo Bentancur. Then, in the 79th minute, chants from the crowd towards striker Dominic Solanke included references to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has reportedly agreed a sensational move to Premier League rivals Everton after being snubbed by Pep Guardiola for the FIFA Club World Cup.

City get their tournament underway against Wydad AC at 5pm on Wednesday with Walker not part of the travelling squad following his return from AC Milan. The former Tottenham Hotspur star spent the second half of the campaign on loan in Italy.

His City career now appears to be over, with a report from The Sun claiming he has agreed a stunning move to the blue half of Merseyside. He has come to terms on a one-year contract with David Moyes’ side as Everton and City are now left to discuss if it will be a permanent or a loan deal.

Fulham were also credited with an interest in the six-time Premier League winner but were unable to meet his wage demands. He joined City in 2017 from Spurs in a deal worth £50m.

Kyle Walker on ‘uncomfortable’ conversation with Pep Guardiola

After being told he was free to leave City in January, Walker lifted the lid on the discussion he had with Guardiola about leaving the Etihad Stadium. He said after signing on loan for AC Milan: “When I spoke with Pep it was not a very comfortable conversation because of the respect that we both have for each other and what we've achieved at Manchester City. Everything that he's won at Manchester City, I've also won.

"I would like to think that he knows what I bring to the dressing room and the atmosphere that I create.”

He added: "I could have stayed in Manchester. I still had a contract there. And I would have [respected] that contract if they wouldn't have let me leave. That's just me as a person. "But I think it comes down to challenges in life. I think sometimes you find yourself in a situation where you think, ‘I need to try something different’. "And I spoke to many ex-players that had not moved abroad in a different league to the Premier League and they kind of said to me, ‘I wish I had experienced it now’".

Man Utd second offer expected for Bryan Mbeumo

In other news, Manchester United are expected to send an improved offer to Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. That is according to a fresh update from Sky Sports who claim the player is still leaning towards a move to Old Trafford despite interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Mbeumo is said to be “intrigued” by a move to Spurs, who can offer him and Champions League football. The North London club have also appointed Thomas Frank as manager, giving Mbeumo the chance to reunite with his old boss.

The Red Devils had a bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons knocked back by Brentford previously with the Bees holding out for around £60m. They have already forked out £62.5m for Matheus Cunha after meeting his release clause. They have, however, come to an agreement to pay that fee in instalments to Wolves.

Manchester United appear to be in competition with Europa League final opponents Tottenham Hotspur when it comes to their summer transfer business.

After losing out on a huge trophy opportunity, the Red Devils are determined not to lose out on a leading transfer target too. The two Premier League sides are battling it out for the signature of Bryan Mbeumo, who has attracted significant attention after an impressive season with Brentford.

Former Bees manager Thomas Frank has been appointed as the new head coach of Spurs following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking. His interest in bringing Mbeumo with him puts the North London side in a strong position to snag his signature but United still appear to be navigating a positive route when it comes to signing the Cameroon international.

‘Deal on’ for Bryan Mbeumo move to Man United

According to Florian Plettenberg, Frank and his new side are attempting to persuade Mbeumo to snub other destinations in favour of Tottenham this summer.

“Tottenham Hotspur, under new manager Thomas Frank, will try to convince Bryan Mbeumo to make the move to Spurs,” the reporter wrote on social media. “However, Manchester United have already entered negotiations with Brentford, as Mbeumo has already given his approval. A verbal agreement with MUFC is in place, and they remain optimistic that the transfer will go through. Deal on.”

The Mirror also reported earlier this week that Spurs had tabled a £70 million bid in attempt to hijack United’s attempts to sign Mbeumo. The proposed deal breaks down to a £65 million fee up front, plus £5 million in add-ons.

Frank is eager to be reunited with his former player, while club chairman Daniel Levy is also reportedly keen on bringing Mbeumo in as a ‘statement signing’.

Man United bid rejected for Bryan Mbeumo

Fortunately for United, Mbeumo reportedly favours a move to Old Trafford above all else. Spurs were willing to pay significantly more than the offer previously tabled by United, which was knocked back by Brentford.

United had offered an initial £55 million in attempt to sign the winger, which was swiftly turned away by their Premier League rivals.

The Red Devils are expected to make a revised bid for their leading target as they hope to wrap up a move sooner rather than later. The Mirror report claims that United are the ‘preferred destination’ for the Cameroonian, so now it appears to be down to the clubs agreeing on a transfer fee.

As well as Mbeumo, United are on the market for a proven centre-forward to boost their threat in front of goal. Last season, the Reds found the back of the net just 44 times in the Premier League last term, one of the fewest goal returns in the division.

Ruben Amorim is eager to strengthen his options in attack but the transfer window is proving to be a rather competitive one, as multiple clubs continue to show interest in their key targets.

Manchester United were beaten in the Europa League final by Tottenham Hotspur and they could soon be beaten to a summer transfer by them as well. United finally completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves on Thursday and remain in the market for another attacking midfielder, as well as a striker this summer.

United have already seen a bid rejected by Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo and they might have to act quickly if they are to land the French playmaker. The London club turned down an opening offer of £45 million, plus £10m in add-ons, as they value Mbeumo in the same region of the £62.5m that will be paid for Cunha.

It is understood United will make a revised second bid for Mbeumo soon, though they could face serious competition from Tottenham in a move for the forward after manager Thomas Frank left Brentford to take charge of the North London club.

Tottenham 'receive encouragement' over Mbeumo deal

Manchester United are still viewed as the favourites to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer after the 25-year-old initially decided he would prefer a move to Old Trafford over any other option this summer. Arsenal and Newcastle have both also expressed an interest to sign him, though he believes he would have a more regular role at United next season.

Mbeumo wasn't as keen on a move to Tottenham amid their managerial uncertainty, though it is suggested he is now more open to a move after former Brentford boss Thomas Frank was appointed their new head coach. The French forward has played under Frank throughout his six year spell in England and has played a key part in their rise under the manager.

Sky Sports claim Tottenham have now held initial discussions with Brentford about a deal for Mbeumo and say the player is 'more intrigued by a move' because of Frank's appointment. The report adds Spurs have even 'received encouragement' about a potential deal, with United yet to submit an improved bid.

Manchester United could consider alternatives

Manchester United are still hopeful they can secure a move for Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window but they will face serious competition from Tottenham Hotspur for his signature. Ruben Amorim wants to add another attacking midfielder to his side, with a move for Mbeumo independent of Cunha's arrival. There is a desire to add players who are already proven in the Premier League this summer, as Amorim looks to improve the overall fitness and athleticism of his side ahead of a campaign in which they will only play domestic matches.

There is still hope an agreement can be found between the two parties, with Mbeumo understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford over Arsenal, Newcastle or Tottenham. United are relaxed about the situation and will soon present a revised bid to Brentford in the hope they can reach a breakthrough.

They are adamant they will not overpay for the playmaker though, and have little interest in protracted talks for his signature, so could consider other options if there is little compromise over a deal, with Eberechi Eze and Antoine Semenyo both also of interest.

Manchester United’s league rivals Tottenham Hotspur are in the hunt for a new manager. They have parted ways with Ange Postecoglou and are weighing up their options. The London club finished 17th in the table this past season.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils were placed in 15th after their final day win over Aston Villa. The pair also locked horns in the Europa League final in Bilbao last month. Spurs won 1-0 after Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal.

Former Manchester United coach eyed by Brentford

Spurs want Brentford manager Thomas Frank to replace Postecoglou and as per The Mirror, the Bees would target ex-United coach Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town if they lost their popular head coach. McKenna, 39, was appointed by the Tractor Boys back in 2021. They are back in the Championship now following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Northern Irishman moved to Old Trafford back in 2016 and initially became their Under-18’s boss. He then worked his way up to joining their first-team coaching staff. McKenna then cut ties with the Red Devils when his move to Portman Road came about and he has impressed in his first number one managerial role in the game.

He guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the top flight. Despite finishing in the bottom three with Southampton and Leicester City, his reputation in the game is still decent. It remains to be seen at this stage whether the Tractor Boys will be able to keep hold of him amid expected interest from Brentford.

What now for former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna?

Time will tell whether McKenna will remain at Ipswich or move on in the near future. If Frank leaves for Spurs, he would fit the bill for Brentford. He was linked with Brighton and Hove Albion 12 months ago but stayed put.

He was subsequently handed a new four-year deal running until 2028. After extending his contract, he said: “I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the Club. We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I’m excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic Club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years.

“Preparation and planning for the challenge ahead has been ongoing since we won promotion at the beginning of May, with plenty of work still to do before the start of the new season at what is such an exciting time for everyone at the Club. I am so happy to have committed my future to taking the next step with Ipswich Town and am really excited for what's ahead as we continue this journey together.”

Their CEO Mark Ashton added: “We are delighted Kieran has further committed his future to the Club. Success brings its own challenges and there has been considerable speculation in recent weeks, but Kieran and I have continued to communicate throughout, often several times a day, as we plan for the Club’s first Premier League season in a generation. For Kieran to have signed a new contract is a significant boost, heading into such an important campaign, as we continue the hard work in preparation for the coming season.”

Manchester United will hope to quickly move on from a tough night in Bilbao as the Premier League season comes to a close this Sunday. United welcome Unai Emery’s Aston Villa to Old Trafford and the Red Devils will hope to salvage a final-day result after what has been a miserable campaign.

Victory in what is a dead rubber for United would be scant consolation after their poor showing in Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, but a result against the Villains could at least give United the dignity of rising a place or two up the final league table and obtaining the higher prize money which comes with that. Villa are still in with a strong shout of Champions League football and will go into the match as favourites.

Despite defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs Ruben Amorim looks poised to stay in Manchester, with the board likely to give him the chance to bring in the right players to fit his wing-back system ahead of a make-or-break season next term.

United’s lack of goals cost them on Wednesday

The Red Devils have suffered with a lack of goals in the team throughout the season, and this cost them dearly on Wednesday night. Much-criticised striker Rasmus Hojlund never looked like coming close to scoring, his replacement Joshua Zirkzee was more worried about nice link-up play from deep than getting into the box, and Amorim had to resort to putting Harry Maguire up front late on, with similar results to his Lyon heroics not materialising on this occasion.

United are the fifth-lowest goal scorers in the Premier League and their desperate need for new forward options showed. Several names have been linked such as Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap and Jonathan David, with fresh reports linking the Red Devils to Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Former chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade, revealed to Football Insider that United are keen on Mbeumo and are likely to hold talks with the Cameroon international.

The Red Devils are targeting both Mbeumo and AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, though it is likely that they will only push forward with a deal for one of the two for financial reasons.

United should do everything they can to sign Mbeumo

On the back of an outstanding season with the Bees, Mbeumo could be the perfect signing for United as Amorim hopes to remedy the club’s goalscoring problem. Boasting 19 Premier League goals this campaign, the 25-year-old is the Premier League’s fifth-top scorer and is surely destined for bigger things than Brentford. Should United fail to sign him, then someone else will.

Though United is a different proposition entirely, Mbeumo seems like the type of character who would be able to deal with the pressure. He took on the burden given to him by Brentford after Ivan Toney’s betting suspension and subsequent sale, and has over 300 career appearances under his belt including 22 for Cameroon. With 69 goals and 51 assists totalling in 120 goal involvements for the Bees, Mbeumo has always contributed heavily but it feels as though he is only going to get better - and that is a scary prospect. He could transform United next season.

Fichajes recently reported that United have offered £54m for Mbeumo, who was recently nominated for Premier League Player of the Season. Thomas Frank and Brentford would be sad to see him go, but will likely have begun to come to terms with the prospect of their star man departing this summer.

Manchester United’s miserable season was encapsulated in 90 minutes of football on Wednesday night, as Brennan Johnson’s first-half winner gave Tottenham Hotspur Europa League glory in a 1-0 victory over Ruben Amorim’s side.

The fact Spurs hadn’t won a trophy in 17 years and yet still showed more big game know-how says a lot about the mentality of this United side, or the personnel, likely both. There was a couple of flashes by Amad Diallo, an acrobatic goal-line clearance by Micky van de Ven and a couple of important late saves by Guglielmo Vicario - otherwise United looked completely short of any ideas, with even captain Bruno Fernandes not coming to their rescue this time as Spurs defended for their lives and held on.

The fact that United sit 16th in the Premier League now becomes an even more glaring failure, as many of their players clocked out of the league season weeks ago to focus on the Europa League, and now where has that got them? If you had told any United fan when Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013 that they would finish 16th in the Premier League in their lifetime, they would have laughed so hard that they wouldn’t have had the chance to feel offended. Chelsea finishing 12th in 2022/23 was huge, but for Manchester United this is something else.

What United’s summer budget will be

According to reports by The Guardian, Amorim will still be given an £100m budget this summer despite Europa League final defeat, as the club’s fate on Wednesday was never going to be the deciding factor in the Portuguese’s summer backing by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United board.

Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap remain strongly linked with Old Trafford, with forward areas a primary cause for concern after the distinct lack of creativity or conviction in front of goal in easily the most important match of the club’s season. Cunha will likely leave Wolves this summer and United are said to be the frontrunners to activate his £62.5m release clause at the conclusion of the season. Cunha is not put off by United’s league position, believing them to be one of the biggest clubs in the world.

A deal for Delap may be more complicated, as United will face competition from Newcastle United and Chelsea for the Ipswich Town striker, whose release clause is £30m. A playmaker is also reportedly in Amorim’s sights, though it remains to be seen whether this will fit within the £100m budget given.

Alejandro Garnacho is set to depart

One man whose time at Old Trafford looks to be coming to an end is Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho, who publicly questioned his manager’s decision not to start him in the final on Wednesday.

Garnacho said: “Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today – I don’t know. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.”

The 20-year-old was linked with Napoli in January, and could be set to go through with a move away from Old Trafford this time around. The club will listen to offers for Garnacho according to the report above from The Guardian, and will likely have to come to terms with the fact that the talented winger will realise his potential elsewhere after a rough season in Manchester.

Several other big-name players are likely to exit over the summer, including the exiled Antony and Marcus Rashford and even potentially Kobbie Mainoo, who has been linked with a £70m exit over recent months. Talisman Fernandes even offered to leave in an interview after Europa League final defeat, stating he understands if the club need to cash in, though it seems unlikely it will come to this.

Regardless, it will be a summer to watch out for at Old Trafford as United find themselves in the weakest financial and sporting position the club has faced in living memory.

Manchester United were uninspiring as they lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final to confirm a trophyless season and no Champions League football. Brennan Johnson scored the only goal to decide a scrappy clash in Bilbao that was tense and low on quality.

Ruben Amorim made one change to his starting line up as Leny Yoro replaced Victor Lindelof in central defence against Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were the better side in the first-half and led at the break when a combination of Brennan Johnson and Luke Shaw bundled the ball over the line.

United were the better side after the restart and almost equalised when Rasmus Hojlund saw his header cleared off the line by Micky van der Ven, before Bruno Fernandes headed wide of goal. They continued to push in the dying moments of the match but were unable to find anyway through a resolute Tottenham defence. Here is how we rated the United players in Bilbao:

Manchester United have reportedly been handed a ‘major boost’ ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur tonight. Ruben Amorim’s side will look to salvage their season with both a piece of silverware and Champions League qualification, but will have to do so against a side that has already beaten them three times this season.

United were handed an initial triple injury boost when Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee returned to first-team training on the eve of the match, and it could be about to get even better for supporters.

The Athletic claim defender Yoro has been passed fit to start the match and will be named in the line up to face Spurs in Bilbao on Wednesday night. The French defender limped out of the recent home defeat to West Ham and missed the away defeat to Chelsea last Friday night, but could is expected to be included in the side.

Leny Yoro set to start Europa League final

Manchester United had feared Leny Yoro could miss the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur tonight, but he is now expected to start the match in Bilbao.

The 19-year-old picked up an injury in the home defeat to West Ham earlier in the month and was replaced by Victor Lindelof for the recent defeat to Chelsea. Yoro trained with the United side on the eve of the final and it is claimed he will be named in the starting line up after he proved his fitness, in what is a ‘major boost’ for head coach Ruben Amorim

Yoro has been an important player for United since he arrived from Lille and has played a key role in their run to the Europa League final. He has made seven appearances in the competition so far this season, and scored his first goal for the club in the quarter-final first leg against Lyon.

It is unclear whether fellow defender Diogo Dalot will be deemed fit to start, while Joshua Zirkzee should be named on the bench. Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez will both miss final due to injury and Chido Obi is ineligible to feature.

Today is the day. Manchester United have endured a dismal domestic season but know they can earn some redemption when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final tonight. Not only will one of the clubs end the season with a famous piece of silverware, they will also earn Champions League qualification and the riches that come with it.

Ruben Amorim has been handed a huge boost for the match with Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee all available for selection again. The United head coach has warned they will only have 'limited minutes' against Spurs, and he could name the same starting line up that lost to Chelsea last time out.

It means Victor Lindelof could keep his place in central defence, while Mason Mount could partner Amad Diallo in the two attacking midfield roles. Rasmus Hojlund is certain to lead the forward line, with Manuel Ugarte and Alejandro Garnacho both likely to be substitutes.

Lisandro Martinez sends message

Manchester United will be without just three senior players for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao tonight. Matthijs de Ligt did not take part in the club's final training session at Carrington yesterday and instead did individual fitness work with a first-team coach.

The Dutch defender was not named in the travelling squad for the clash, but has made the trip to the Basque Country to support his teammates. There is also no place for teenage striker Chido Obi, who is ineligible to feature in European competition this season. He did train at Carrington earlier in the week but can't be registered to play in the match.

United's other absentee is defender Lisandro Martinez, who remains sidelined after he underwent surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier in the year. There is still no specific timeframe on when the Argentine might return, though the rough guidance would be at least six months from when he suffered the setback in early February.

Martinez will hope to return to the United side with Champions League football to play and ahead of the Spurs match he sent a message of support to his teammates. The 27-year-old uploaded a video montage of his best bits from the Europa League campaign, and added the caption: All UNITED we're stronger! Come on, Red Devils, LET'S GO ALL OUT!!!! 👹❤️ "
