Celtic attacker Benjamin Nygren is reportedly on a shortlist of potential signing targets for Tottenham Hotspur this summer - providing they secure Premier League safety.
The Sweden international continues to divide opinion among the Hoops fanbase, despite scoring 21 goals and contributing a further eight assists on route to helping the reigning champions seal five-in-a-row after a dramatic final day win over title rivals Hearts at Parkhead.
It’s claimed Spurs will consider a move for the versatile 24-year-old attacker when the transfer window opens, but only if they successfully retain their English top-flight status. That looks likely after fellow strugglers West Ham suffered a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United to leave them in the relegation zone, having played a game more.
According to well-respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham are unable to commit to any transfer dealings until the North London club know which division they will be playing in next season.
Speaking to Bettingsidor.se, Di Marzio said: “Benjamin Nygren could be an option for Tottenham if they stay up, but I also know Roberto De Zerbi very well and I know his focus is only on staying up in the Premier League.

“The club is in a very special situation, because their position on the transfer market is completely frozen. They can`t move forward with any deals, even the deals with Senesi and Robertson have been blocked by the club, because the focus is on staying up.
“But after those last two matches, they will decide if they are moving forward with the deals, including the deal with Benjamin Nygren, who is on their list.”
Nygren could fit De Zerbi’s high-tempo attacking style
It’s expected that new Tottenham boss Roberti Di Zerbi will prioritise reinforcements in the forwards areas and Nygren is on his radar as a cost-effective option capable of filling multiple positions.
Signed from Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland last summer, Nygren has developed into one of Celtic’s most influential players and will hope to make his mark on the global stage as part of Graham Potter’s Sweden squad at the World Cup.
Nygren is viewed as someone who could strengthen Tottenham’s squad and a player who could fit naturally into De Zerbi’s high-tempo attacking style of play due to his ability to operate on either wing or as a number ten.
It’s understood Celtic value Nygren at around £25m and remain in a strong position to enter negotiations due to him penning a long-term contract upon his arrival in Glasgow.
Speaking to Celtic TV after Saturday’s 3-1 victory which sealed the league title, a delighted Nygren admitted: “It’s very hard to describe. I feel like it was meant to be, you know. It’s like a movie. Down to the last minutes, everything on stage, on the last game. So I’m so happy.
“I’m so proud of everyone. We’ve kept on believing. It’s been so many games we’ve been down. We could have quit many times, but we haven’t. We’ve always stuck together as one team and kept on fighting, kept on believing, and that’s why we’re champions now.”
