Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to make a move to sign Raheem Sterling, after he left Chelsea by mutual consent, according to reliable reporter Alasdair Gold.

Chelsea recently confirmed that they agreed to terminate the contract of Sterling, who has struggled since his move to Stamford Bridge. The English forward was banished from the first team squad this season, and failed to feature for the club with his career stagnating.

With the west London club struggling to offload him, Chelsea agreed to terminate his contract, allowing him to find a new club. Tottenham have been linked with a possible move to secure his signature as they search for a new forward this month, and Gold has now provided an update on whether Spurs could try and bring him to north London.

Tottenham Make Decision on Raheem Sterling

According to journalist Gold, Tottenham are not expected to make a move to sign Sterling on a free transfer. This comes shortly after the reliable reporter ruled out a potential move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Tottenham have been linked with a move to sign Sterling this month, and former midfielder Jamie O'Hara seems keen on the idea. O'Hara suggested that he would 'absolutely' take Sterling at Spurs, suggesting that he's better than what they've got in attack.

"I would have him at Tottenham. I would absolutely take Sterling at Tottenham. I think he’s a good player. He’s better than what we’ve got. I’d sign him on a contract to the end of the season if he was willing to do that. I don’t know what other offers he’s got in terms of, he might have a long-term contract in Saudi offering him loads of money. But if the candle is still lit and he wants to still be a Premier League football player I would give him an opportunity at Tottenham."

It appears that O'Hara isn't going to get his wish, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs will sign a new forward in the January transfer window, with moves for Sterling and Mateta ruled out.

Tottenham Making Correct Decision on Sterling

Sterling has struggled to hit the heights expected of him over the last few years, and it's no surprise that Tottenham aren't expected to pursue his signature. Since joining Chelsea, Sterling has spent time out on loan at Arsenal, where he also failed, while he's yet to play a single minute of action this season.

The English attacker is likely to demand significant wages, and Spurs will struggle to see a strong return on their investment, even though he's available on a free transfer. A new forward would be beneficial, but Sterling isn't the answer for the north London club.
