'World-Class' Striker Decides on Joining Tottenham in January After Transfer Talks - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks over a potential January move for England striker Ivan Toney, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed.

The North London side are looking to bolster Thomas Frank’s attacking options at the turn of the year and could reunite the Dane with his former Brentford striker.

Toney, who is now in his second season at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, is understood to be open to a return to England to boost his chances of securing a spot in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, although his prospects appear slim at the moment.

Thomas Tuchel was reportedly not impressed by the £400,000 per week striker when he called up Toney to the squad in June, and the player's camp are not anticipating that the situation could easily change, even if he moves back to England in January.

Tottenham Eyeing Move for Ivan Toney

According to Bailey, Frank would be open to a reunion with Toney in January as he is keen on bolstering his attacking options further next month.

Spurs welcomed the likes of Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Randal Kolo Muani during the summer transfer window, but the three forwards have scored just three Premier League goals between them since.

With Dominic Solanke still recovering from a long-term ankle injury and Richarlison leading the goalscoring charts with six efforts in 15 appearances, it has become evident that Spurs need a proper out-and-out attacker to boost their underperforming line-up.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Toney has netted 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearances.

A move for Toney would be a step in that direction, given the 'world-class' striker’s outstanding numbers for Al-Ahli.

Last season, the England international netted 30 times and provided six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. He already has 12 goals in 18 appearances this term.

Tottenham Eyeing Yan Diomande

Tottenham appear to have several attackers on their shortlist ahead of the January window, with RB Leipzig rising star Yan Diomande also among the options.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old is being followed by several clubs amid his breakout season in Germany.

Diomande, who only joined Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes in July, has seven goals and four assists in 15 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

FA Cup Third Round Draw in Full: Tottenham Hotspur Host Aston Villa - GiveMeSport
Description

With a grand total of 64 teams still left in the competition, the FA Cup third round draw has now taken place. All eyes will likely be on Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa, which is arguably the glamour tie of the round.

Current holders Crystal Palace, who beat Manchester City 1-0 in the 2024/25 final thanks to Eberechi Eze's goal, will take on Macclesfield away from home.

The third round will be played across the weekend of Saturday, 10 January. There are no replays if any games end in a draw, however, as all ties will go to extra-time and then to a penalty shoot-out if necessary. Brackley Town or Burton Albion meet tonight as the final match of the second round. The winner will meet Boreham Wood.

With former England internationals Joe Cole and Peter Crouch tasked with drawing the balls this evening, here are the results:

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Perhaps the most eye-catching fixture of the round will be Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa. Spurs last won the FA Cup in 1991, while Villa have not done so since 1957, although were finalists in 2015, losing to Arsenal.

Unai Emery's men have been in fine form and will hope to continue that in this tournament. Thomas Frank has struggled to get the best out of his new team at home so far, so the trip is not quite as daunting as it could be for Villa.

Manchester United will play Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford, while Everton's match up with Sunderland is another top flight meeting. Newcastle United will also face Bournemouth, with Eddie Howe hosting his former side.

Arsenal travel away to Portsmouth, Liverpool host Barnsley, Manchester City host Exeter City, and Chelsea are away at Charlton in the other games containing the traditional favourites.

Tottenham To Axe £68,750 A Week Star After Probe Launched Into Off-Field Offence - GiveMeSport

Yves Bissouma is facing an uncertain future with Tottenham after being filmed inhaling laughing gas — a year after being suspended for the same thing.

The Spurs midfielder has struggled under new boss Thomas Frank and hasn't made a single appearance for Tottenham this term. Frank left him out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain in August due to 'persistent lateness'. He's since been suffering with an ankle injury which has kept him out of contention.

Now, as a result of his latest disciplinary issue, Bissouma is facing an uncertain future in north London.

Tottenham Launch Probe Into Bissouma Conduct

Tottenham confirmed on Friday night that they had launched a probe after footage emerged of Bissouma inhaling a nitrous oxide balloon at a party. Nitrous oxide can lead to brain disorders, depression, memory loss, incontinence, hallucinations and nerve damage.

The latest footage, revealed by The Sun, appears to have been filmed in the early hours of November 3, with Bissouma since removing any mention of Tottenham from his Instagram account.

It comes after the player posted a clip on his Snapchat account last August of him inhaling "hippy crack". Bissouma was suspended by Tottenham and later issued an apology for his "severe lack of judgement."

A Spurs spokesman said of the new video: “We are looking into the events and it will be dealt with as an internal matter.”

Bissouma's Days With Tottenham Are Numbered

This latest off-field incident will surely spell the end for Bissouma's Tottenham career. Having joined for £60million from Brighton in the summer of 2022, the midfielder has gone on to make 100 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.

Now 29 years of age and earning £68,750 per week, Bissouma's contract in north London expires next summer, however Spurs have the option to extend that deal by 12 months if they choose to.

Based on his conduct, it would be a surprise if Tottenham wanted to extend his contract in order for him to continue playing for the club, however a one-year extension would open up the possibility of Spurs being able to cut their losses on the player and recoup some form of transfer fee.

Yet to feature under Frank, it's possible that the player has played his last game for Tottenham. An excellent player on his day, it's just a shame that Spurs fans haven't been able to see the best of him.

Archie Gray Must Start for Tottenham to Save Thomas Frank’s Job

Undroppable: ‘Phenomenal’ Tottenham Star Must Keep Starting to Save Frank’s Job After Unlocking Xavi - GiveMeSport
Description

Thomas Frank has a new, undroppable star following a standout performance against Brentford.

The Tottenham boss was facing his old club on Saturday afternoon and guided his club to a much-needed 2-0 win over the Bees to give them an almighty boost in the Premier League.

Goals from Richarlison and Xavi Simons made the difference in north London, with the latter putting in one of his best performances in a Spurs shirt. Simons will be grateful for one Tottenham teammate who put in a brilliant performance that allowed him to strut his stuff in front of his home supporters.

Archie Gray Stars in Tottenham Win

While he wasn't the headline-grabber on paper, Archie Gray put in a top-level display against Brentford. Lining up in midfield against Rodrigo Bentancur, the former Leeds starlet put in an excellent performance that set the tone for Spurs on the afternoon.

The 19-year-old completed 32 passes with a success rate of 94%. He also made eight defensive contributions throughout to help Frank's side to a clean sheet.

Described as 'phenomenal', Gray had 50 touches and completed five passes into the final third as he took control of the game, winning two ground duels in the process.

At such a young age, Frank will no doubt be very excited about what the 19-year-old showed on a big afternoon for Tottenham.

Gray Is Now Undroppable For Spurs

Such was the quality of his performance, Archie Gray must surely now be regarded as one of the first names on Thomas Frank's teamsheet.

While Bentancur and Pape Sarr have regularly been used in the heart of the midfield this term, Gray has regularly impressed this term. More than that, his performance against Brentford was crucial in unlocking Xavi Simons.

Simons was the star of the show, but that was partially down to the performance of Gray. Dominating in midfield, it meant that Simons was let loose and able to play his natural attacking game with real success on a big afternoon for Spurs.

The duo worked incredibly well alongside each other and that combination could be key to improving Tottenham's performances in the weeks ahead.

Simons has the ability to be a real difference-maker this term and if Gray can help him to show that on a regular basis then his involvement seems like a no-brainer.

Tottenham vs Brentford: Team News and Predicted Lineups for Premier League Match - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford will go head-to-head in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon in north London, with both teams looking for a much-needed win.

Thomas Frank's side are winless in their last five in all competitions, rescuing a late 2-2 draw away at Newcastle in midweek thanks to captain Cristian Romero's double. Keith Andrews' outfit, on the other hand, have lost three of their last five, including against Arsenal in midweek at the Emirates Stadium.

Both sides are dealing with some injury concerns in the build up to this game too, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expects the teams to line up.

Tottenham Team News

Spurs have had a number of injury issues all season long, and Frank is still set to be without at least six first-team players for this game. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are long-term absentees with knee injuries, while Dominic Solanke is said to be edging closer to a return following ankle surgery.

But Yves Bissouma (ankle), Kota Takai (thigh) and Radu Dragusin (knee) are yet to feature this season and there is no sign of a return yet.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Frank shared an update on his squad ahead of the game.

"There's competition for that left-side role. We're playing games every third or fourth day so we need rotation but also someone hasn't put their foot down on the left position.

"No [update on Solanke and Kulusevski]. When they are ready to be close to joining the squad then I will provide an update."

Tottenham Predicted XI

Tottenham Predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van De Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Bergvall; Kudus, Xavi Simons, Tel; Kolo Muani.

Tottenham Predicted Substitutes: Kinsky (GK), Udogie (DEF), Danso (DEF), Gray (MID), Bentancur (MID), Sarr (MID), Richarlison (FWD), Johnson (FWD), Odobert (FWD).

With a packed schedule, Frank is likely to rotate his side again for this game and that should see the likes of Djed Spence, Mathys Tel and Xavi Simons come into the starting lineup.

That should see £255,000-a-week duo Richarlison and Brennan Johnson named on the bench, while Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie could also be rested.

Brentford Team News

After replacing Frank in the summer, Andrews has had a mixed start to life as Brentford manager and will look to get back to winning ways here. Igor Thiago was rested in midweek but should start once more after coming on as a substitute.

Fabio Carvalho is a long-term absentee after rupturing his ACL, while Antonio Milambo is also out for the season. Josh DaSilva is dealing with a knee issue of his own and won't return until the new year, but Reiss Nelson and Aaron Hickey could return this weekend after missing the Arsenal defeat.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Andrews shared an update on his squad ahead of the game.

"We're in a good place. Lads haven’t done too much since (Wednesday), the exertions of the last two games over a space of a few days, and obviously getting ready for tomorrow against Spurs. So we're in a pretty good place.”

Brentford Predicted XI

Brentford Predicted XI: Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Hickey; Henderson, Jensen; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago.

Brentford Predicted Substitutes: Valdimarsson (GK), Pinnock (DEF), Ajer (DEF), Henry (DEF), Janelt (MID), Onyeka (MID), Yarmolyuk (MID), Lewis-Potter (MID), Nelson (FWD).

The Bees are likely to go back to the side that saw them claim victory over Burnley last weekend, which means Jordan Henderson, Igor Thiago and Aaron Hickey should return.

Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool and Tottenham Battling to Sign Yan Diomande

Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool and Tottenham Want to Sign ‘One of the World’s Best Young Talents’ - GiveMeSport
Description

The January transfer window is quickly approaching and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that both Liverpool and Tottenham are tracking a young forward.

The Reds had a record-breaking transfer window in the summer as they spent big on bringing in the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, but they have had a difficult campaign so far and could look to strengthen further in the winter.

Spurs, on the other hand, also had a busy window and signed Kota Takai, Joao Palhinha, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani, but have been dealing with a number of injury issues, leaving Thomas Frank looking for more reinforcements.

Romano: Spurs and Liverpool Eyeing Diomande

One player who is of interest to both clubs is RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande, who has lit up the Bundesliga this season with some impressive performances, having joined from Leganes last summer.

The 19-year-old, who has been described as 'one of the best young talents in the world', has registered four goals and two assists so far this season, but his performances have seen the German side slap an £88m price tag on his head already.

Romano, who was writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, was asked about interest in the Ivory Coast international from the Premier League, with Spurs and Liverpool both name-checked, and he revealed that the links are genuine, but nothing is concrete yet.

"There are at least 4/5 clubs following the player. Nothing is concrete at the moment, but interest from several clubs is genuine."

Diomande is capable of playing on both wings, and has electric pace and great trickery which would undoubtedly make him an excellent options for both sides.

Both Spurs and Liverpool are keen to bring in a left-winger, and Diomande's capability to play there and bring entertainment and quality to the side will surely be a big help, although the price tag is probably too high for both sides currently.

Tottenham and Liverpool Need a Left Winger

While both clubs have got plenty of quality in attack, the left-wing position is a bit of a problem area for them.

Liverpool currently have Cody Gakpo as first-choice with youngster Rio Ngumoha as the back-up option, while Florian Wirtz has also played in that position this season. But the German is at his best as a number ten, and Gakpo has been largely poor this season, suggesting he needs competition for his place.

Spurs, meanwhile, lost captain Son Heung-Min in the summer and didn't replace him directly, which has seen Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert used as a left-winger this season. But none of them have impressed, and a more natural option in that role could help Thomas Frank's setup.

Leipzig are well known for being tough negotiators, but if a deal can be agreed then it will have to be at a fair price, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.

'World-Class' Champions League Forward Open to Joining Tottenham in January

'World-Class' Champions League Forward Open to Joining Tottenham in January - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham are in the market to bolster their forward options in 2026, and one superstar would be open to making the move to north London in January.

Spurs had a busy summer transfer window as Thomas Frank added Kota Takai, Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani to his squad, but the team have had a mixed campaign to date and the Dane has faced criticism for his pragmatic style of play.

The Lilywhites have had to deal with a number of injury issues throughout the season too, and now the club are eyeing potential reinforcements during the winter window to strengthen their bid for trophies.

Tottenham Eyeing Real Madrid Star Rodrygo

Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who has been dubbed 'world-class' by Luka Modric, was one of the biggest talking points in the summer transfer window, with many expecting him to move on after he fell down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso.

However, while he decided to stay at the Bernabeu to fight for his place, he has found regular game time difficult to come by and recently reached 30 games without a goal for the Spanish giants - breaking an unwanted record in club history.

With the 2026 World Cup coming next summer, the 24-year-old, who earns £350,000-a-week, is keen to keep his place in Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the tournament, and it's understood that he is considering a move away as a result.

According to TEAMtalk, Real Madrid don't want to let Rodrygo leave the club in January as they want to keep their squad together for the season, but they have placed a £70m asking price on his head for interested parties.

Intermediaries are said to be working on a deal to get him out of the Spanish capital, and he would be open to a move to the Premier League to join one of six clubs, with Tottenham said to be on that list of options who are actually showing an interest in his services.

Rodrygo Signing Takes Tottenham Up a Level

While Frank has got good attacking options at his disposal, a left winger is something that would undoubtedly take the team to a new level.

Currently, the manager is being forced to use Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel out wide because of injuries to James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, and it's clear that Rodrygo is a better option than all of them.

A deal may be expensive, but if it can help the north London side to get higher up the table and deeper into competitions, then it would be worth every penny, and may be something that can help get the fans back on the manager's side too.

Perfect for Frank: Tottenham in 'Very Advanced' Talks to Sign Yan Diomande

Perfect for Frank: Tottenham in 'Advanced Talks' to Sign £88m 'Monster in the Making' - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham’s growing interest in Yan Diomande is not simply another name surfacing in the rumour cycle. It is a clear signal of intent. With talks described as “very advanced” between Spurs and the RB Leipzig winger’s representatives by Sky Sports, Thomas Frank’s vision for Tottenham is beginning to take a more defined shape.

This is not about chasing hype or reacting late in the market. This is a targeted move that reflects how Frank wants his Spurs side to look, move and hurt opponents.

Diomande’s rise in the Bundesliga has been rapid and eye-catching, with reports suggesting he has an £88m release clause.

At just 20, the Ivorian has already developed into one of Leipzig’s most dangerous wide threats, combining explosive acceleration with a fearless approach in one-on-one situations. Leipzig are calm publicly and have not yet opened formal negotiations, but Tottenham’s acceleration behind the scenes suggests serious intent. Frank is not looking for cosmetic upgrades. He is hunting profiles that directly fit his tactical identity.

Frank’s attacking systems have always been based on intensity, vertical movement and constant stress on opposing defences. His wide players are not there to recycle possession or hold shape conservatively. They are there to force mistakes, commit defenders and attack the space behind full-backs repeatedly. Diomande’s game fits that philosophy almost perfectly.

He plays on instinct, drives directly at defenders and is most dangerous when the game becomes stretched. That suits a Tottenham side expected to lean further into structured pressing and fast transitions under Frank rather than slow, possession-heavy control. Diomande would not just add pace to Spurs’ attack - he would change the rhythm of it. Full-backs would be pinned deeper, recovery runs would be constant, and central attackers would benefit from the space created by his vertical threat.

This is why Tottenham’s interest feels calculated rather than opportunistic. Diomande - described as a 'monster in the making' by one analyst and compared to Kylian Mbappe by another site - is not being targeted as a luxury addition. He is being viewed as a functional piece in a system that demands constant forward momentum.

Why Spurs Are Moving Early

The phrase “very advanced talks” is significant. Tottenham clearly do not want to be dragged into a full-scale bidding war once the summer window opens properly. Leipzig’s model is well known. They remain patient, allow interest to build, and sell only when maximum leverage has been achieved. Once multiple elite Champions League clubs move from monitoring to formal negotiations, prices rise sharply.

This early movement suggests Tottenham view Diomande as more than just one option among many. They see him as a priority target.

A Calculated Risk in Tottenham’s New Recruitment Logic

There is no escaping the fact that this remains a high-upside gamble. Diomande is not a finished product. His adaptation to Premier League physicality, his consistency across a full domestic season and his end-product over sustained periods all remain part of his development arc. But Tottenham’s current recruitment direction points toward a greater willingness to embrace that type of controlled risk.

Rather than defaulting to ageing, short-term solutions on inflated wages, Spurs are leaning into assets with elite growth potential and long-term resale value. Diomande fits that model exactly. Leipzig’s reputation as one of Europe’s most reliable development clubs also plays heavily into that confidence. Players rarely leave Leipzig tactically naïve or physically underprepared.

For Frank, this is not just about what Diomande can do today, but what he could become within a year of working inside his structure. A winger who already thrives in chaos becomes significantly more dangerous when that chaos is organised.

How Diomande Changes Tottenham’s Attack

Tottenham’s evolution under Frank is expected to centre on speed of execution rather than sheer volume of possession. Diomande’s presence would naturally tilt Spurs further in that direction. His ability to attack recovery defenders instantly would give Spurs a constant outlet on the break, while his willingness to commit multiple defenders would open central corridors for runners from midfield.

This is especially important for a Spurs side that has often struggled to turn territorial dominance into clear-cut chances. Diomande creates problems before defensive shape can fully reset. That ability is priceless in the Premier League, where low blocks and compact structures dominate the weekly tactical landscape.

Frank’s football thrives on moments of instability. Diomande lives inside those moments.

Barcelona Interest Raises the Stakes

Barcelona’s exploratory interest adds a new layer to the situation. While their involvement remains informal at this stage, their presence alone validates the trajectory Diomande is on. Once clubs of that stature escalate from monitoring to movement, the entire landscape changes.

Tottenham understand that dynamic. Move early and the deal remains manageable. Wait too long and both valuation and competition intensify rapidly. Player preference becomes harder to control, and negotiation leverage shifts sharply toward selling clubs and agents.

This is why Spurs’ acceleration now makes strategic sense rather than feeling rushed.

Verdict: This Is a Frank Signing Through and Through

Yan Diomande is not a marketing signing. He is a system signing. Everything about his profile aligns with the football Thomas Frank wants to build at Tottenham: aggressive in transition, fearless in wide areas, and relentless in forcing defensive errors.

Advanced talks do not guarantee a deal, and Leipzig will not sell cheaply. But Tottenham’s early movement shows this is a deliberate pursuit rooted in tactical planning rather than reactionary hype.

If Spurs land Diomande, it will say far more about their future identity than their present ambitions. It would be a statement that Tottenham under Frank intend to be faster, more vertical and far more dangerous when games break open.

Tottenham Preparing £50m+ Bid to Sign Conor Gallagher for Thomas Fran

Tottenham Preparing £50m+ Bid to Sign £200,000-a-Week Star for Thomas Frank - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham are ready to splash the cash in order to strengthen their side in the January transfer window.

After a torrid season under Ange Postecoglou in which Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League and won the Europa League, the north London side have struggled again this time around with the club sitting in the bottom half of the table.

As a result, Thomas Frank is already feeling the heat as head coach and will be keen to work closely with Fabio Paratici in January in order to ensure that the squad has everything they need in order to challenge at the top end of the table.

Tottenham Ready For Conor Gallagher Move

Tottenham's need for reinforcements could see them move for a familiar face in the centre of midfield.

According to Fichajes, Spurs are ready to stump up in order to sign Conor Gallagher next month. Atletico Madrid are hoping for around £50million to sell the English star. Everton and Newcastle United are also keen, however it's the Lilywhites who are leading the chase and are ready to meet the Spanish giant's asking price.

Gallagher is keen to play regular first team football in the hope of earning a spot in England's World Cup 2026 squad, while a move away could free up space on Atletico's wage bill to recruit elsewhere, with Gallagher earning £200,000 a week.

Gallagher Would Be Perfect For Spurs

While Tottenham are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements with Antoine Semenyo top of their list, a top-quality midfielder would also be a huge boost for them.

One of the biggest criticism of Spurs this term has been the lack of energy and dynamism in the middle of the park. Gallagher would certainly solve that.

Scoring 10 and creating 10 in 95 appearances for Chelsea, Gallagher moved to Atletico and was instantly loved by Diego Simeone for his tenacity in midfield. In 70 appearances, he has scored six goals and provided six assists in that time.

A true box-to-box player, the 25-year-old would be a massive signing for Frank's side and would add genuine battling qualities to the ranks, while also possessing the technical quality to make his mark as well.

Of course he came through the youth ranks with Chelsea and so it remains to be seen if he'd be open to joining their fierce London rivals, but in terms of a footballing move, it's certainly one which could make a lot of sense all round.

Tottenham Handed Ivan Toney Transfer Boost as Everton Target Richarlison

Shock Everton Transfer Could Unlock Tottenham Move for 'World-Class' Striker - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham could be handed a surprise route to signing Ivan Toney in January through Everton’s reported interest in Richarlison, according to ESPN.

The former Spurs forward has endured a difficult spell since his move away from Goodison Park, and a potential return to Merseyside is now being explored as the January transfer window approaches. While any deal would be complex, the report suggests it could have significant knock-on effects across the Premier League striker market.

Toney, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, is understood to be keen on a return to England, and his situation is closely linked to Richarlison’s future. With Tottenham also monitoring their attacking options ahead of the winter window, this developing storyline could yet become one of the most intriguing transfer chains of January.

Everton interest in Richarlison could unlock Ivan Toney path for Spurs

According to ESPN, Everton are exploring the possibility of re-signing Richarlison, just a short time after his exit from the club. Any move would not be straightforward financially, but Everton believe there could be scope to bring the Brazilian back if conditions align. That interest is significant for Tottenham because it could help facilitate their pursuit of Ivan Toney, who is keen to return to the Premier League from Al Ahli.

Toney’s link to Tottenham is notable due to his previous relationship with Thomas Frank from their time together at Brentford. Frank knows the striker’s qualities better than most, and Spurs are understood to be open to adding a proven goalscorer to their squad if circumstances allow. However, ESPN report that Everton are also considering a direct move for Toney themselves, meaning Spurs could face competition from the very club attempting to sign Richarlison.

Despite receiving a reported £100 million cash injection from their majority owners in October, ESPN state that those funds have been earmarked to strengthen Tottenham’s overall financial position rather than being diverted into a January spending spree. As a result, Spurs’ ability to pursue Toney outright appears limited unless player movement creates room to manoeuvre.

The report also notes that Tottenham do not have a large pool of high-value, easily sellable assets, which only adds to the complexity of any winter business. That reality increases the importance of the Richarlison situation, with his potential exit one of the few obvious ways Spurs could generate flexibility.

Why the Richarlison-Toney link makes sense but remains risky

From an analytical standpoint, the logic behind this potential transfer chain is clear. Tottenham need greater reliability in front of goal, and Toney offers a proven Premier League profile that few available strikers can match. His physicality, finishing and link-up play would give Spurs a different dimension in attack, particularly during periods when injuries limit their options.

At the same time, Richarlison’s possible return to Everton would offer the player a familiar environment where he once thrived and where expectations are different to those at Tottenham. From Everton’s perspective, re-signing a player who understands the club and the pressure of fighting near the bottom of the table could be seen as a relatively safe move.

However, there are significant risks on all sides. For Spurs, committing resources to Toney - described as 'world-class' by Hermann Hreidarsson - without a clear financial pathway would be difficult given the restrictions outlined by ESPN. For Everton, undertaking another major deal for Richarlison would come with obvious financial considerations and questions over whether his form can truly be revived.

For Toney himself, the decision is also far from straightforward. A return to England would put him back under heavy scrutiny, and interest from multiple clubs only complicates his next move.

What happens next for Tottenham, Everton and Toney

As January approaches, movement on Richarlison is now one of the key factors to watch. If Everton formally move to bring him back, it could quickly accelerate developments around Toney’s future. Should that not happen, Spurs’ pursuit of a striker may remain on hold due to the financial limitations outlined by ESPN.

Everton’s potential involvement in a direct move for Toney also adds an extra layer of intrigue, with both clubs possibly competing for the same player. For now, this remains a developing triangle, but any progress on one side is likely to have immediate consequences for the others as the winter window draws closer.
