Description

Tottenham Hotspur's problems seem to deepen by the day.

Igor Tudor looks set to be in charge for the visit to Liverpool at the weekend, with the club confirming that he will be taking the pre-match press conference on Friday, but his future beyond that remains in doubt.

The Croatian has lost all four of his games in charge and, having been brought in to be a firefighter and be a quick fix to get Tottenham out of the mess they find themselves in, it has not worked, with Spurs even deeper in trouble than they were before he joined.

A 5-2 defeat at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League was the tip of the iceberg for a lot of supporters, following Tudor's decision to start Antonin Kinsky in goal and then subsequently replace him 17 minutes in - and not acknowledge him after he walked off - after two shocking mistakes.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Tudor has alienated a number of first-team players since his arrival as a replacement for the sacked Thomas Frank in February and that the Tottenham hierarchy have sounded out potential short-term replacements following four losses in a row.

Possible options include former interim boss Ryan Mason, ex-Spurs striker Robbie Keane, who is currently in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros and, according to reports, has been contacted by Spurs, and Sean Dyche.

Robbie Keane Has a Big Job On His Hands Already

And former Spurs midfielder Jamie O'Hara has already thrown his weight behind Keane returning to the club.

Speaking on TalkSport this week, when asked who he would bring in, he said: "I've said Harry Redknapp, but that's not going to happen. Robbie Keane, Robbie Keane, someone who cares about the club."

Keane is having a successful spell in Hungary with Ferencvaros, winning the league title last season and on course to do so again this season. They also have a UEFA Europa League last 16 clash with Braga on Thursday night, with the second leg next week.

O'Hara has previously spoken about Keane on TalkSport and an anecdote from their playing time together showed exactly why Keane would be perfect for the Tottenham job right now.

O'Hara Anecdote Makes Key Point About Robbie Keane

O'Hara said: "I never forget playing with Robbie Keane, he was up front and I was young and playing well and I was getting the ball, moving it, keeping it, moving it sideways, didn't want to give the ball away, trying to find my feet, and after about ten minutes Robbie Keane came up to me and grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and said 'if you don't look to pass forward into my feet the next time you get the ball, I'm going to have you in the dressing room, stop passing it sideways!'

"Then, all of a sudden your first thought when you get the ball on the half turn is to play forward, look forward, because you've got a centre-forward there saying 'give me the ball'."

Tottenham Star Not Worried About Relegation as He 'Will Leave' This Summer - GiveMeSport
Description

One Tottenham Hotspur star has privately told his teammates that he isn't too concerned about the club being relegated as he 'will leave' the club this summer, according to the Athletic.

The crisis is deepening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the club in grave danger of finding themselves playing Championship football next season.

Spurs were in trouble when Thomas Frank was dismissed following defeat to Newcastle United last month, but they are now in an even worse position under interim manager Igor Tudor.

The 47-year-old has lost all four of his matches in charge, including the 5-2 away defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Tottenham's players are clearly struggling in terms of confidence, which is no surprise given they remain without a Premier League win in 2026 ahead of their trip to face Champions League qualification hopefuls Liverpool on Sunday.

Some Tottenham Players Unhappy With Teammates

According to the Athletic, while some Tottenham players are determined to bring the club away from trouble - they currently lie one point above the relegation zone - they have voiced their displeasure at the application of some of their teammates.

There is a belief that certain members of the squad are not motivated to help Spurs' cause, with the report also adding that one player has even privately told his teammates he's not too concerned about the possibility of relegation as he believes he 'will' secure a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham haven't even been able to rely on their senior players in recent weeks, with Cristian Romero only just returning from a four-match suspension, while Micky van de Ven was fortunate not to be sent off in successive games at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has also been out of form and was dropped by Tudor in the Spanish capital, although it was a decision that backfired catastrophically as two mistakes in the opening 15 minutes saw Antonin Kinsky substituted off just 17 minutes into his first Champions League start.

Vicario and Van de Ven Among Those Linked With Exit

Whichever division Tottenham find themselves in next season, there are likely to be wholesale changes to the squad in the summer.

Reports suggest that Vicario is determined to secure a return to Serie A this summer after three years in the Premier League, with his desire likely to be heightened having been brutally dropped by Tudor in midweek.

The Italian was already said to have a strained relationship with his Croatian manager before the decision.

Van de Ven is also said to want to play Champions League football and unless Spurs complete a remarkable turnaround against Atletico and then win the whole tournament, that isn't going to happen.

Meanwhile, reports from Tottenham captain Cristian Romero's homeland suggest that it is already decided that he will be leaving Spurs at the end of the season.

It's going to be an interesting few weeks and months ahead for the struggling north Londoners.

Tottenham Chief Vinai Venkatesham Making Calls Over Igor Tudor Replacement

Venkatesham Locked in Tottenham Office All Day Making Tudor Replacement Phone Calls - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are accelerating efforts to replace interim boss Igor Tudor, with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham spearheading the search for a new manager, according to the Daily Mail.

The north London side suffered a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, which extended Tudor’s losing start at the club.

The Croatian has suffered defeats in all four games since replacing Thomas Frank last month and continues to face questions over his future less than four weeks into the role.

Tudor is expected to remain in charge for Tottenham’s visit to Liverpool on Sunday, with Spurs refusing to make an immediate decision on his future for now.

Tottenham Searching for Tudor’s Replacement

According to the Daily Mail, Venkatesham spent much of Tuesday locked in his office while making calls regarding potential replacements for Tudor, with sporting director Johan Lange also involved in the process over the past week.

Spurs have reportedly accelerated their plans after last Thursday’s 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace, which extended their winless run in the Premier League to 11 matches.

The north London club are understood to prefer avoiding another managerial change, but if results under Tudor fail to improve, that scenario could become increasingly likely.

Tudor, who replaced Frank after only eight months in charge, is only under contract with Spurs until the end of the season.

Dyche Among Spurs’ Options

As GIVEMESPORT reported on Wednesday, Tottenham appear to have several possible options to replace Tudor before the end of the season.

The list includes former interim boss Ryan Mason, ex-Spurs striker Robbie Keane, and former Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche.

While Mason and Dyche are both available, Keane is currently in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros, who are on track to win back-to-back league titles under the Irishman this season.

While a decision on a potential change will lie with Venkatesham and Lange, it is believed that Joe Lewis’ grandson-in-law Nick Beucher also has input.

Mauricio Pochettino is the frontrunner to become the new Tottenham manager after the season, even if the club are playing in the Championship.

Spurs are believed to be keen on bringing the Argentine back to north London, almost seven years after he was sacked in 2019.

Pochettino is currently in charge of the United States, but he is expected to leave after the World Cup, when his contract expires.

Tottenham Suffer New Triple Injury Blow as Tudor Faces Liverpool Defensive Crisis

Tottenham Suffer New Triple Injury Blow as Tudor Faces Liverpool Defensive Crisis - GiveMeSport
Description

As if Tottenham Hotspur's 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid wasn't bad enough, they could now be facing a defensive crisis for Sunday's trip to Liverpool after suffering a brand-new triple injury blow in the Metropolitano Stadium.

This Tottenham team made history as they lost six successive matches for the first time ever in the Spanish capital, with it also being their second humiliating collapse in less than a week.

Spurs were 4-0 down in the opening 22 minutes against Diego Simeone's side, and while there was an improvement after that, it was too little, too late for the visitors.

The north Londoners face an uphill battle to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League ahead of the second leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next week, but first of they face the small task of playing Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, hovering one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Romero and Palhinha Doubts for Liverpool

Tottenham have missed the leadership qualities, but maybe not the indiscipline, of Cristian Romero in recent weeks, with the Argentina international sitting out their last four Premier League fixtures after picking up his second red card of the season.

While there are question marks over his conduct on the pitch, Romero is still one of Spurs' best players in the current squad, and they will need him during the run-in.

The 27-year-old might already be a doubt for both the trip to Liverpool and the second leg against Atletico however, after suffering a concussion in the latter stages of the tie in the Spanish capital.

Romero clashed heads with teammate Joao Palhinha, with the Portuguese midfielder having to go off looking quite dazed minutes before the full-time whistle.

Tottenham had already made all of their substitutes so they were down to 10 men in the closing stages, before Romero also crouched down in the centre circle and couldn't continue either.

If it is concussion, then the protocols will be enforced and neither will be available to Tudor on Merseyside.

Kevin Danso Struggling With Ankle Issue

Danso only recently returned from a toe injury for Tottenham, but it was his ankle that was causing him issues against Atletico.

The Austria international took a hit to it and was hobbling considerably during the first half.

While he did appear to run it off later in the game, it looked like one that would be sore and would need checking out this week ahead of Liverpool.

Should Danso be unavailable, along with Romero and Palhinha, it would leave Tudor with a major conundrum.

Tottenham Facing Defensive Crisis

Tottenham are already without Micky van de Ven at Liverpool following his red card against Crystal Palace last time out, which would leave them down to the bare bones in terms of centre-backs.

Radu Dragusin would need to come into the XI, while Tudor may be forced to use Archie Gray and Pedro Porro in his backline, with both playing there at points this season.

It's far from ideal, but otherwise it would be the Croat once again throwing another youngster into the fire, a decision which has already backfired with Kinsky.

10 Favourites to Replace Igor Tudor as Tottenham Manager - Including Sean Dyche - GiveMeSport
Description

The 10 favourites to replace Igor Tudor as Tottenham's interim manager have been revealed following the north Londoners’ 5-2 Champions League hammering by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. Although the Croatian was expected to be given until the end of the season to stop the rot, there have been few signs of progress, and the hierarchy must be weighing up whether they should stick or twist.

Tudor’s side sit just one point above the Premier League drop zone, and his scattergun approach - lacking a clear game plan from one match to the next and constantly rotating personnel - has left many questioning whether time is running out for the former Juventus and Hajduk Split head coach after initially being brought in to replace Thomas Frank.

Across his four matches in charge, Tottenham have lost every single one, conceding 14 goals in the process. His promise of an instant impact has yet to materialise, and while he cannot be solely blamed for the club's dire situation, betting odds on his sacking have now been suspended. The names of favourites for his interim replacement are once again emerging as per Bookies.com, especially after his post-match comments did little to inspire a visibly broken dressing room.

The 10 Favourites to Replace Igor Tudor at Tottenham

Currently at Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola looks set to continue the long line of highly talented Spanish managers making their mark in England. His exciting brand of football could bring the feel-good factor back to Spurs, but whether he is willing to stake his reputation on a job as demanding as Tottenham’s remains to be seen.

Fulham sit 10th in the Premier League, just four points off seventh as they chase Europa Conference League qualification. Under ordinary circumstances, their manager might be content with how things are going and less likely to be tempted elsewhere. But Marco Silva has yet to sign a contract extension at Craven Cottage and could well fancy his chances of succeeding with limited resources at Tottenham, hoping to prove himself as a long-term option.

From one relegation battle to another, Scott Parker looks set to face inevitable doom with Burnley this season, which means his position in the Turf Moor hot-seat is already up in the air. At least a move to Tottenham would mean he has a better chance of keeping his head above the dotted line, and the fight he has got out of his current crop of players in recent weeks would work much better with a squad of Spurs' calibre.

After announcing he would step down from his role at Crystal Palace at the end of the season, it remains unclear whether Oliver Glasner will take on another role in English football or seek to chase another major honour abroad, having already achieved success in Germany and England. If one were to hazard a guess, the Austrian would likely turn down any approaches from a club with a hierarchy in disarray given his own talents.

Marco Rose could be a good fit for Tottenham with his high-pressing, attacking style honed during his time in the Red Bull system, having secured a strong second-place Bundesliga finish with Borussia Dortmund and won trophies at both Salzburg and Leipzig. His intensity could inject energy into Spurs’ squad.

However, sacked by Leipzig in March last year amid poor form, his record at big clubs shows inconsistency and susceptibility to fan backlash. Lacking Premier League experience and currently unemployed, the adaptation risks remain high for a club desperate for stability, making him an uncertain - though potentially progressive - option for a team that needs instant results.

Having failed to turn things around at Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche is being linked with an instant return to management with the task of saving Tottenham. He would bring a much more boring, route-one style to north London, but perhaps that is what's needed to drag the Lilywhites through the turmoil and into the light at the end of the tunnel. If it's effective, it doesn't matter if it's ugly, might be the mantra if he is appointed.

Ryan Mason knows Tottenham better than the back of his hand, and has taken the club over on an interim basis before. At the end of the 2020/21 campaign, taking the reins from Jose Mourinho. He oversaw four wins from seven matches, boasting a 57 per cent win rate, though his most recent stint in management with West Brom wasn't nearly as promising.

Before Tudor’s appointment, club legend Robbie Keane stepped forward, offering himself to the Tottenham hierarchy and almost pleading for a chance. Currently in charge of Hungarian giants Ferencvaros, the Irishman has also managed Maccabi Tel Aviv and ATK, maintaining a win percentage above 60 per cent. However, with no Premier League coaching experience, his appointment could be a risky gamble. The fact he wants to prove himself so badly is probably the reason he's so high in the odds list.

After leaving Marseille around the same time Frank was dismissed at Tottenham, many were surprised that those upstairs didn't at least tap up Roberto De Zerbi to see if he fancied a return to the Premier League. Best known for guiding Brighton & Hove Albion to the Europa League, the Italian has a track record of instant success wherever he goes, and appears to be the best option for Spurs if they can persuade him to cut his break short.

Beloved former manager Mauricio Pochettino was in attendance as Tottenham were torn apart by Atletico. With him set to oversee the USA at the World Cup this summer, any short-term appointment seems like complete fantasy. But even without that context, what he witnessed in Madrid on Tuesday night may be enough to deter him from taking on what has become a poisoned chalice.

He Wants Job: Tottenham Lining Up Surprise Manager to Replace Igor Tudor

He Wants Job: Tottenham Lining Up Surprise Manager to Replace Igor Tudor - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise move for two managers to replace Igor Tudor after he was given an ultimatum by the club, according to Sports Boom.

Tudor was brought in as a manager with experience of being a 'firefighter' at this stage of the season for Lazio and Juventus, turning their form around positively.

However, it has been a nightmare start for the 47-year-old at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he has lost his opening three matches at the helm, which has left Spurs just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Tudor and Tottenham face some respite from the league when they face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League knockout tie, with the trip to Diego Simeone's side daunting given the form they have been in - albeit they have been strong in Europe.

When they return from the Spanish capital, Spurs face another important game as they travel to Merseyside at the weekend to face Arne Slot's Liverpool, who are chasing a top-four finish domestically.

Tottenham Eyeing Redknapp and Dyche

According to Sports Boom, as well as interest in Sean Dyche, Tottenham are also lining up a move to re-appoint Harry Redknapp if the north London club's performances and results go from bad to worse this week.

The report says that Tudor has been given the two upcoming matches to save his job, and if things go badly he will be out of the door and Spurs will be looking for their third manager of the season.

The appointment of Tudor has failed to lift a dressing room of players that are visibly devoid of confidence, which is why someone like Redknapp would enter the board's thoughts as a short-term replacement.

Longer-term, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed that Tottenham's top two targets are Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi.

Redknapp a Risk But He Can Lift Squad

Tottenham legend and pundit Gary Lineker has already urged the club to bring in Redknapp until the end of the campaign to save them, and if they did he would become the oldest-ever Premier League manager at the age of 79.

While there will be concerns that he hasn't managed in club football for nine years following a disappointing spell at Birmingham City, he has experience of lifting players and that could be key across a short-term period.

Redknapp is known for putting his arm around the shoulders of players and getting the maximum out of them, whereas Tudor already hasn't been afraid to criticise his squad publicly.

The 79-year-old remains a popular figure among the Tottenham fanbase having managed them for almost 200 games previously, and has the potential to bring a disconnected club together for the run-in.

He has also confirmed that he wants the job if the club were willing to give it to him.

Who Should Tottenham Appoint to Save Them?

GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT who Tottenham should replace Igor Tudor with now for the remainder of the season to save the club, and this is what it said:

'Tottenham should replace Igor Tudor with a short-term manager capable of stabilising results for the rest of the season. The most suitable option is Sean Dyche because of his proven ability to organise teams defensively and guide clubs through relegation battles. His pragmatic style could quickly improve Tottenham’s structure and resilience.

'Another realistic interim option is Ryan Mason, who already knows the squad and club environment. However, Dyche offers greater experience and a stronger track record in survival situations, making him the best candidate to steady Tottenham Hotspur until a long-term manager is appointed in the summer.'

Tottenham Could Make Changes At Board Level This Summer

Tottenham Could Make Changes At Board Level This Summer - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham are assessing their leadership team at board level and could make changes when the season comes to an end, GIVEMESPORT has learned.

Following the departure of Daniel Levy, GMS sources have suggested that further back-office changes or restructurings could come by the start of next season. Highly-regarded director of football operations Rafi Moersen already forms part of a new-look leadership team, while Nick Beucher carries weight with the Lewis family despite not sitting on the Spurs board.

Spurs want to hire a new sporting director prior to making a decision on their new permanent head coach, which was one reason why caretaker Igor Tudor was appointed.

Former Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman is one option, but GMS understands Saudi side Al-Diriyah will fight to keep him.

Chelsea co-sporting director Paul Winstanley and Bournemouth's Tiago Pinto have also made the shortlist for a role that is currently being billed as working alongside Johan Lange.

When it comes to the new head coach position, Mauricio Pochettino remains one of the leading contenders to replace Thomas Frank and the Argentine will be in attendance for Spurs' UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg tie at Atletico Madrid as a guest of the LaLiga club. Pochettino will be at the game to watch American midfielder Johnny Cardoso.

GMS understands the Argentine is open to a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and would not necessarily be put off the role if Spurs go down. Pochettino is expected to leave the US men's national team after the 2026 World Cup when his contract expires.

Spurs also have Roberto De Zerbi and Marco Silva on their radar, two names they approached prior to hiring Frank. And Robbie Keane has also been discussed having impressed during his time with Hungarian champions Ferencváros.

Tottenham Keen To Keep Four Key Players

On the field, no progress has been made to extend the contract of Micky van de Ven, with the defender likely to seek an exit if Spurs go down. The centre-back is not a player Spurs want to lose, but GMS understands Van de Ven is open to an exit this summer.

Spurs captain Cristian Romero is another name who could be sold, even if Spurs stay up. Atletico Madrid held an interest over the summer, while Romero has confirmed he would like to play in Spain one day.

Spurs' players have relegation clauses in their contracts resulting in around a 50% wage decrease, but that alone won't necessarily prevent sales if the club is relegated.

Spurs want to keep hold of Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, but all are likely to draw interest from Europe's big five leagues. Chelsea and Aston Villa already made enquiries on Bergvall in January. Solanke is on Roma's radar, while Saudi clubs are also showing an early interest.

Silver Lining To Spurs Not Qualifying For The Champions League

Managerial candidates will be keen to understand not only the potential flight risks if Spurs drop into the Championship, but also the planned investment if Spurs secure their Premier League status for 2026/27.

It is expected to be a summer of upheaval at Spurs. Barring winning the Champions League, there will be no European football next season. Naturally, this would have a detrimental impact on the books, but the one silver lining if Spurs only have domestic football next season, and remain in the Premier League, is they can take advantage of the new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules without being bound by Financial Fair Play. The first year of the Premier League's new financial rules factors in the transition away from PSR and should allow clubs to be aggressive in the market without fears of penalties.

Description

Tottenham are preparing to face Atletico Madrid in Spain on Tuesday night, and one of their manager targets is going to be in attendance, according to The Athletic.

Spurs are desperately hoping to turn things around under Igor Tudor, who has lost all three of his games in charge of the north London club.

Their Premier League form is the most concerning situation at the moment, with the threat of relegation now serious as they sit one point above the bottom three.

The game against Atletico is a chance for Spurs to try and gather some momentum, but there's no doubt the Premier League is the more important competition at the moment.

Being knocked out of the Champions League won't be a disaster, despite being disappointing, but suffering relegation would be catastrophic.

'World-Class' Manager Attending Tottenham Clash

According to a report from The Athletic, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be in attendance for their game against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The report claims that Pochettino has made no secret that he's interested in returning to north London one day, but he's currently working with the USA national team ahead of the World Cup.

The Athletic suggest that Pochettino is a guest of Atletico, rather than Tottenham, and he could be keeping an eye on American midfielder Johnny Cardoso.

Spurs fans might be hoping the Argentinian manager is in attendance for other reasons, with Pochettino one of their targets to take over in the summer.

Pochettino a Target for Tottenham

GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that Pochettino is open to joining Tottenham in the summer, even if they are relegated.

The former Chelsea and Spurs boss is believed to be on their shortlist, alongside Roberto De Zerbi and Robbie Keane.

The 'world-class' 54-year-old might be hoping to return to club management in the near future, and with him making it clear that he'd be open to a return to Spurs, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in the dugout for next season.

Tottenham's managerial situation is likely to ramble on for the next few months, and something might even change even sooner if their form under Tudor continues.

Would Pochettino be a Smart Appointment for Tottenham?

GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT whether Pochettino would be a smart appointment for Spurs, and whether he'd suit their current squad.

As Bad as Dragusin: 2/10 Flop Must Never Play for Tottenham Again Ahead of Atletico - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham manager Igor Tudor needs to start making some tough decisions after a horrendous start to his tenure, and that should begin against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Tudor has lost all three of his opening games in charge of Spurs, but he'll be hoping to bounce back and pick up some momentum away to Atletico.

It's certainly not an easy fixture for Tudor to be attempting to steer Tottenham back in the right direction, and he might have to make some bold calls to try and get a tune out of his squad.

Although the managers have taken a lot of the blame this season, the players can't escape criticism. A large portion of the Tottenham squad have severely underperformed, and there is one player who has been seemingly undroppable, undeservedly.

Tudor Must Axe Tottenham Star, He's Done

Guglielmo Vicario has started every single Tottenham game in the Premier League this season, but he certainly hasn't deserved to. The Italian goalkeeper has endured a dismal season, and it's time for Tudor to take him out of the team.

Vicario was given a 2/10 rating by Football Fan Cast for his display against Crystal Palace last week, and that's been a common theme throughout the campaign.

In reality, Vicario shouldn't be playing for Tottenham again. He's let them down far too many times now, and he's reportedly desperate to leave the club.

The Spurs goalkeeper already appears to be thinking about his future beyond the end of the season, rather than focusing on trying to save the north London club from being relegated to the Championship.

Tudor Must Axe Him Immediately

Tudor needs to make the decision to drop Vicario for their game against Atletico Madrid.

The Tottenham boss has already admitted that Spurs need to play a little more defensively with bodies on the line, but Vicario has made so many errors that he's likely to undo any defensive work his team-mates produce.

Vicario ranks 20th in the Premier League for save percentage this season, only beating Lucas Perri and Sam Johnstone.

If he does drop Vicario until the end of the season, he could have played his last game for the club, as he seems so insistent on leaving in the summer.

£30m Tottenham Star Says Thomas Frank 'Didn't Like Me'

£30m Tottenham Star Says Thomas Frank 'Didn't Like Me' - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mathys Tel claimed on Monday that he had disagreements with former manager Thomas Frank, who 'didn't like him'.

Frank was sacked last month after eight months in charge of Tottenham, when the club had gone on a run of winning just two of their last 17 Premier League matches, which left them five points above the bottom three.

Spurs haven't improved since the interim appointment of Igor Tudor though, losing the Croat's first three matches in charge of the club as they now sit just one point above the relegation zone.

Tottenham chiefs would have been hoping for some positive results and performances from the new manager bounce, but the north Londoners have arguably got worse and are completely devoid of confidence.

Tel has been one of the brighter sparks, along with another youngster in Archie Gray, for Spurs in recent weeks, with more experienced players failing to step up when the club needs them the most.

Mathys Tel Makes Stunning Thomas Frank Claim

While Mathys Tel gears up for a big Champions League knockout game in the Spanish capital against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, he has been speaking to Zach En Roue Libre about many different subjects, including Thomas Frank.

The £30m Frenchman was given very limited starts and minutes under the Dane prior to his sacking, while also being left out of the club's Champions League squad before being recalled to it prior to the clash against Slavia Prague in December.

Tel said: “I disagreed with Thomas on my role within the team and he didn’t like me for it. He didn’t look to try and fix things. I was confused why I was on the bench a lot. I felt I could help the team more than I was.”

Tel Deserves More Starts for a Struggling Tottenham

While the quality and end product hasn't always been there for Tel, you can rarely fault his effort and work-rate in a white shirt.

Those are the qualities and his desire are what this Tottenham side needs right now to try and bring them away from the relegation zone.

Tel's minutes under Tudor have also been largely limited so far, with two substitute appearances before he played the full 90 in the defeat to Crystal Palace last week.

That decision was mainly down to the availability of players within Tudor's squad, but Tel will hope it was a sign of things to come and he doesn't have the same disagreements over his role in the side as he did with Frank.
