Amad Diallo will be one of many Manchester United players looking for revenge when Ruben Amorim’s side face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The 2024/25 campaign was a frustrating one for everyone at Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag was sacked in October after a dire start to the season, but results worsened after Ruben Amorim’s arrival in November.

United finished 15th in the Premier League before losing the Europa League final against Tottenham in May. That defeat was not only Ange Postecoglou’s last game as Spurs manager, but it was the fourth time they beat the Red Devils last season.

The current United players who featured in those games should be demanding revenge by getting back to winning ways with a victory over Thomas Frank’s side, even though they’ve got a different manager in the dugout.

Amad Diallo made promise after Europa League final defeat

Although Tottenham finished below United in the Premier League table last season, the London outfit are playing Champions League football this season.

That is why the Europa League defeat against Spurs came as such a blow. It meant that Amorim’s side failed to qualify for any of the European competitions.

Only time will tell if United will benefit from playing fewer fixtures throughout the season. In theory, it should give Amorim more time with the players on the training ground to focus on Premier League matches.

United need to get back to winning ways on Saturday if they are to overtake Spurs in the Premier League table.

Looking back at how some of the players reacted to losing against Tottenham in Bilbao, we found a post – now deleted – from Amad’s Instagram account.

The Ivory Coast international was deeply disappointed with the result and chose to apologise to the fans after a dire season.

Amad also promised fans that a season like last year’s will never happen again.

“I would like to congratulate Tottenham on their victory, and then apologise to all Manchester fans around the world,” Amad wrote on Instagram after the final defeat.

“It’s been an unacceptable season, and no one can deny that, but we always put our motivation on the pitch.

“I promise you that a season like this will never happen again at this great club.”

It goes without saying that beating Tottenham this weekend would be the perfect marker to back up Amad’s words.

Amad looking for first Premier League goal against Tottenham

The only time Amad managed to score against Tottenham, it came in a 4-3 defeat in the Carabao Cup.

That means Amad is not only looking for his first win over Tottenham, but also his first Premier League goal against the London outfit.
