Daniel Levy’s exit has boosted Amanda Staveley’s chances of staging a sensational Premier League comeback.

In a shock announcement yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur chief Levy announced he is stepping down as executive chairman after 25 years. Levy took over the reins at Spurs and endured many ups and downs but, ultimately, grew the club into a commercial giant.

The 63-year-old faced the heat from supporters on several occasions throughout his tenure but leaves on the back of a Europa League triumph in May. Levy vowed to continue supporting Tottenham "passionately" in a farewell statement to supporters.

Daniel Levy statement

“I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees,” Levy told the club website. “We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community.

“I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years. I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years.

“It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Amanda Staveley takeover boost

Spurs announced a boardroom reshuffle in the announcement but the long-term future of the ownership remains unclear. Tottenham News claims that potential investors could be encouraged by the major development in North London.

Last year, various sources suggested former Newcastle United co-owner Staveley was keen to explore Spurs as a possible route back into football. According to Bloomberg last year, the Ripon-based businesswoman has already held initial discussions about buying a minority stake alongside Rothschilds & Co.

There has also been talk about her attracting further Middle Eastern investment - similarly to how she brokered the Manchester City and Newcastle takeovers. Levy admitted in 2023 that Spurs were open to investment - with his departure now refuelling speculation about a possible Staveley bid.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported on his Patreon that the Lewis family - who own the bulk of Tottenham's shares - are prepared for takeover talks now Levy is gone. This will be music to Staveley’s ears as she plans her next move.

Amanda Staveley confirms football ambitions

As quoted by the BBC in December, Staveley admitted her desire to return to the football arena. She said: "First of all, I think all we can do is thank the amazing Newcastle community and the founders for all the support that we had and and continue to get.

"It's so hard to move on from a club that's amazing. We could never move on from Newcastle and we never will. But yes, we're looking at a number of investment operations.

"We can't say too much at the moment because of you know, rules around it. But we will be able to talk about it, hopefully in the not-too-distant future."
