Yoane Wissa has reportedly told Brentford that he only wants to join Newcastle United this summer.

The Wissa saga has taken a fresh turn in the last 24 hours, with the Magpies seeing an improved £40million bid rejected by Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur showing interest.

Wissa has been pushing to leave the Bees since leaving their pre-season training camp in Portugal last month, where, after returning to London, he refused to train for an initial period.

The 28-year-old has since returned to team training but wasn’t included in the squad that lost 3-1 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. He is unlikely to feature against Aston Villa this Saturday too, having on Tuesday deleted all reference to Brentford on his Instagram account.

Brentford reject improved Newcastle United offer for Yoane Wissa

It was widely believed that Brentford completing the £42.5m club-record signing of Dango Ouattara from AFC Bournemouth last weekend would green light Wissa’s exit. However, they continue to stand firm.

Manager Keith Andrews said after his side’s defeat at the City Ground that Ouattara was regarded as a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, who joined Manchester United. NewcastleWorld have since had word that the Bees want between £50m to £60m.

So, it should perhaps come as a little surprise that the West London outfit have rejected the Magpies’ second bid of £35m plus £5m in add-ons.

Tottenham Hotspur show interest in Yoane Wissa - but he only wants NUFC

While Newcastle weigh up their next step, interest from a Premier League rival has reportedly emerged.

Tottenham had considered including Richarlison in a part-exchange deal to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, which, if accepted, would have enabled them to move for Wissa. However, with Eze set to join Arsenal, a move for Wissa is now solely dependent on Spurs offloading a forward.

Mail Sport claims there is a feeling that Brentford are stalling in negotiations with Newcastle because they want to sell Wissa to their former boss Thomas Frank. However, DR Congo international has made it clear that he has his heart set on a move to Tyneside.

According to Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie, a big draw for Wissa is United’s rich history with French African players and the vacant number nine. Meanwhile, Mail Sport’s Craig Hope says that Wissa has asked Brentford to listen to his wishes.

Newcastle United striker search continues

For all the noise surrounding Alexander Isak’s future amid interest from Liverpool, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has made it clear he is looking to sign a striker regardless after losing Callum Wilson on a free transfer to West Ham United.

“I think it's been my wish to get a striker because we needed to replace Callum Wilson,” Howe told NewcastleWorld after Saturday’s goalless draw at Aston Villa. “I can't say that enough. It's not like we're looking at any other area, we've been looking to recruit a striker to replace Callum.

“Callum's a big miss, not just his playing ability, but his personality. So that's what we're looking to do.”

Newcastle United rounded off their pre-season tour of Asia with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul.

Eddie Howe made eight changes to the team that lost 1-0 to Team K-League on Wednesday, with only Nick Pope, Lewis Miley and Anthony Gordon remaining in the starting line-up.

Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Harvey Barnes, Matt Targett, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn and Bruno Guimaraes started as Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Alex Murphy, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock, Anthony Elanga and Will Osula made way.

Joe Willock (Achilles) and Sven Botman (thigh) missed out through injury.

Brennan Johnson put Spurs in front in the fourth minute before Harvey Barnes drew the Magpies level just before half-time.

The second half was largely uneventful, although the Seoul crowd stood to their feet in the 68th minute when the nation’s favourite Heung-Min Son was substituted in what is expected to be his final match for Tottenham.

Sven Botman has been ruled out of Newcastle United’s friendly against Team K-League on Wednesday (kick-off 12pm BST).

Botman was introduced at half-time during the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday but lasted just 25 minutes.

The Dutchman lined up in a back three alongside Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth but a groin complaint forced him to withdraw in the 70th minute. Harrison Ashby replaced him.

Eddie Howe provides Sven Botman update

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said after the game that he didn’t think the injury was serious and a scan since then has determined that to be the case.

However, the issue will be enough to rule the 25-year-old out against Team K-League and probably Sunday’s all-Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur. The hope is Botman will be available to feature against either Espanyol or Atletico Madrid in next weekend’s St James’ Park double-header.

"We didn't think it was a serious injury at the time, which has been confirmed in the scan,” Howe said. “He definitely won't play tomorrow but whether he plays a part in the Tottenham game, let's wait and see. Possibly not, but then we hope he can be available for the double-header leading into the first game."

In his first season after joining from Lille for £35million, Botman made 44 appearances but in the last two seasons has been restricted to just 33 outings due to various knee issues.

Eddie Howe previews Team K-League & Tottenham Hotspur clashes

Following three days in Singapore, Howe’s squad arrived in the South Korean capital of Seoul on Monday. Tomorrow, they face Team K-League at the Suwon World Cup stadium before rounding off the visit to Asia against Spurs at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

"We're looking forward to the game,” Howe said ahead of the Team K-League clash. “I just walked out of the hotel for the first time since arriving last night and I was hit by the heat again, which we're looking forward to. Playing in this heat is extreme but we're honoured to be asked to play here and it's a privilege to play in this game against such a strong team.

"I know their level will be very, very high. We won't underestimate our opponents so we'll prepare as well as we can. We'll have our usual things in place to make sure that we know what's ahead.”

Howe added: "We're possibly going to look at it in terms of where our players are fitness-wise, so I think we're going to balance our teams on players that are slightly fresher to possibly play the first game, and players that maybe need a little bit more recovery time after the Arsenal game will play the second game.

"But we're focusing on our first Premier League match against Aston Villa, making sure that we're getting ready for that. It's a big part, pre season, getting the players ready to play but make sure they don't pick up too many injuries so that will certainly be considered."

Newcastle United transfer target Yoane Wissa has left Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future.

Brentford have endured an unsettling summer with Thomas Frank’s switch to Tottenham Hotspur followed by the player exits of captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

As a result, the Bees are reluctant to sanction any other key departures, however now find themselves in a difficult situation with Wissa.

Newcastle United interested in Yoane Wissa after triple ‘snub’

In addition to keeping Alexander Isak, Newcastle are looking to sign a striker to fill the void left by Callum Wilson, who departed at the end of his contract earlier this month.

Last week, the Magpies saw a club-record £69million bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike rejected before Liverpool, after being told Isak was not for sale, joined the race to this week agree a deal worth £79million plus a reported £250,000 in weekly wages.

United also held with Liam Delap and Joao Pedro but both players decided to join Chelsea from Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively.

Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, is a deal Newcastle are currently working on, with The Athletic reporting that an opening offer of £25million has been rejected by Brentford.

Yoane Wissa leaves Brentford camp - keen on Newcastle United & Tottenham Hotspur move

As first reported by BBC Sport, Wissa has left Brentford’s training camp in Portugal due to the uncertainty over his future and is now set for talks with Brentford director of football Phil Giles over his future.

Wissa has already declined new contract discussions with the preference to leave this summer. As well as Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest have also shown interest.

And to that end, the BBC also reports that agreeing personal terms with Newcastle and Spurs won’t be an issue.

Wissa has just 12 months left on his current contract, though there is an option to activate by a further year. It’s been suggested the Bees could sell at £30m.

Eddie Howe gives Newcastle United transfer update

Newcastle have made just one signing this summer with Anthony Elanga arriving from Nottingham Forest for £55m.

Providing a transfer update after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Celtic, Howe said: ”Yes, I wish I could give you clarity.

“I wish I could give you some kind of guarantee that all that's going to happen, but I can't. Yes, my wish was for us to do our business early, and we certainly tried, but it wasn't to be. We've had a frustrating time in terms of losing targets to other clubs, and I'd be very open with that.

“That's happened on several occasions. You just have to accept it. In order for a transfer to really work, in my opinion, the player has to be desperate to come to your club, and if we don't get that, the transfer doesn't work.

“We're seeking players that are good enough, that are desperate to come, and that can make the difference but they're on short supply for us. We're confident that we can try and get some more players in to strengthen the depth of the score. We're certainly aware that we need to, and we're trying as hard as we can to do that.”

Yoane Wissa is reportedly keen on a reunion with former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing the 28-year-old to assist Alexander Isak’s workload next season. A proven Premier League goalscorer, Wissa bagged 19 in the top flight last year to fill the gap left by Ivan Toney.

Despite the speculation, NewcastleWorld would be surprised if the Magpies signed Wissa. His age - 29 in September - does not fit the current profile for incomings at St James’ Park.

Wissa is also likely to miss a chunk of the campaign due to his AFCON commitments with DR Congo. Noises out of Brentford also suggest they would not be willing to lose Bryan Mbeumo and Wissa in the same window.

Newcastle United’s wave of rejection

Newcastle have already faced one Brentford snub after putting the feelers out for Mbeumo earlier in the window. Manchester United have haggled for the Cameroonian international all window and launched a fresh £70million bid in midweek.

Joao Pedro was the next transfer target to turn down the Magpies as he completed a big-money move to Chelsea. To add insult to injury, his alternative, Hugo Ekitike, also favoured Liverpool despite Newcastle holding talks with Eintracht Frankfurt - and having a bid rejected.

TalkSPORT now claim Wissa’s preferred destination is Tottenham, who have recently appointed former Brentford boss Frank. Nottingham Forest remain keen after having a £40million bid rejected last week.

Stuart Pearce rates Yoane Wissa

Former Toon defender Stuart Pearce believes several top clubs will be looking at Wissa. He said: “There’s no doubt Manchester United and Arsenal would have been looking at Yoane Wissa. When you look at the season he had last year, he was magnificent.

“The goals he’s delivered while playing with width and playing down the middle as well. That’s a major asset for any football club and the fact that Nottingham Forest have moved the odd player on recently, along with other sides in the division, you would think that by the time the season starts, he might well have moved on (from Brentford).”

Alexander Isak comparisons

Ex-Brentford boss Frank compared Wissa to Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland last summer. He said: “He has been very good. How many teams have their number nine that has scored 15 goals?

"Maybe Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland? That is exceptional for him. A big credit. He has been very good and having Wissa and Bryan on 15 goals and more I think we are the only club with that."

Nottingham Forest have reportedly had a bid rejected for Newcastle United transfer target Yoane Wissa.

Newcastle are set to confirm the £55million signing of Anthony Elanga from Forest but are keen to recruit another forward following Callum Wilson’s departure.

The Magpies possess one of the best strikers in Europe in Alexander Isak but Wilson’s exit leaves them without an experienced back-up, with 21-year-old Will Osula yet to make a Premier League start since joining from Sheffield United for £15million last summer.

Strength in depth is crucial for Eddie Howe’s side this campaign ahead of a return to the Champions League.

Newcastle United eye forward after Callum Wilson departure

Newcastle have already come up short in two separate striker pursuits this summer. They held talks with Liam Delap but he opted to join Chelsea, as did Brazilian forward Joao Pedro, who, despite being open to joining United, always preferred a move to London after two years in Brighton.

It’s since been reported by Mail Online that Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brentford’s Wissa have been discussed internally, though neither would come cheap.

Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Magpies retain an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman almost joined in 2022 but snubbed a move to Tyneside in favour of joining Paris Saint-Germain.

After failing to impress at PSG, the 23-year-old moved to Frankfurt in January 2024, where he has scored 26 goals in 64 appearances.

Nottingham Forest make Yoane Wissa move

Of those options, Wissa is the one that has been the subject of an official bid this week, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealing Nottingham Forest have had an offer turned down by Brentford.

Forest attempted to sign Wissa for £25million in January but face paying double that now. After losing Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur, Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and Bryan Mbeumo expected to join Manchester United, the Bees have little desire to lose Wissa too.

The 29-year-old Congo international, who scored 19 goals and registered five assists last season, is out of contract next June, though Brentford have an option to extend until 2027.

Forest are under pressure to bolster their attacking options ahead of a new campaign with Elanga’s departure set to be followed by Morgan Gibbs-White. Spurs have triggered Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause with the player due in London on Friday to undergo his medical.

Tottenham Hotspur linked with Yoane Wissa

Spurs too are said to be weighing up an offer for Wissa in a move that would see him quickly reunite with former boss Frank.

Earlier this week, BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel wrote on X: “Tottenham moving for Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa, who is understood to be open to a move. #THFC weighing up financials attached to the deal.”

Wissa turns 29 in September and is set to cost £50m. Only time will tell if Newcastle firm up their interest.

Newcastle United are tipped to try and hijack Manchester United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo was one of Newcastle’s top transfer targets heading into the summer but have since cooled their interest due to the player’s preference to join Manchester United and the figures involved.

It’s understood Brentford want £60million, which would make Mbeumo Newcastle’s second-most-expensive ever signing behind Alexander Isak, while the winger himself is rumoured to want £250,000-a-week salary. That is significantly more than the Magpies’ current top earner.

Newcastle United tipped to hijack Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo deal

Man United are currently locked in negotiations with the Bees and are confident of finalising a deal. But former midfielder and Gateshead-born Don Hutchinson doesn’t believe the saga is finished, revealing he’d be “stunned” if Newcastle didn’t make a late move.

“I really like Bryan Mbeumo and I thought we had a real good chance of getting him until I saw the Manchester United link this week,” Hutchinson said. “I'd be stunned if Newcastle didn't make a late move. Because what Newcastle needs.

“They need competition on the right-hand side for Jacob Murphy. And with Mbeumo. He's very versatile. He can play on the right, and he can play as a nine. That would be the player I'd go for.”

But Tottenham Hotspur could hijack the move

While it’s unlikely Newcastle will move for Mbeumo - unless given strong encouragement from the player’s side - there are suggestions Tottenham Hotspur could become serious contenders once Thomas Frank is appointed as manager.

Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou last week, despite the Aussie ending their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League, and are close to appointing Frank as his successor. Frank has been Brentford boss for seven years, earning promotion from the Championship before establishing the West London club in Premier League.

It was in 2019 when Frank signed Mbeumo from Troyes for just under £6million. Mbeumo has made 242 appearances and scored 70 goals, 20 of which came last season - a total bettered only by Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland. According to the Daily Mirror, Frank is keen on taking Mbeumo to Spurs with him.

Newcastle United focusing on other targets

While Man United and Spurs potentially battle it out for Mbeumo, Newcastle have already turned to other targets. Over the weekend, enquiries for launched for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro and Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.

Both are long-term targets for Eddie Howe. United were close to signing Pedro from Watford in 2022 before signing Isak instead. Last summer, a £35m bid was submitted for Elanga, though a deal was never close.

Howe is hoping to bolster his attacking options by finding to support Isak up top and take the burden off Jacob Murphy on the right wing. Murphy has just enjoyed an outstanding campaign with nine goals and 14 assists but Miguel Almiron’s exit in January left him as the squad’s only recognised right forward.

Guehi was the Magpies’ number one target in the summer, seeing multiple offers - the highest being £60million - rejected before walking away from negotiations as Crystal Palace demanded in excess of £70m.

The failure to sign the 24-year-old meant Newcastle failed to secure a major signing.

“[Guehi] wasn’t the only target,” United boss Eddie Howe said on the Up Front with Simon Jordan Podcast. “A lot goes into a summer, you never just have one target - that wouldn’t be right.

“We went into the summer with several targets and we tried to sign two or three other players but we didn’t get them. We ended up towards the end of the window with one target and we didn’t get him so that was it.”

The England international remains a player of interest, but United have resisted making a fresh approach in January. Newcastle have in the last few days raised around £30m by selling Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly but will wait until the summer before strengthening Howe’s squad.

The hope is that some short-term pain will lead to long-term gain and essentially allow United to spend more freely in a summer window amid pressures to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Several clubs eye summer move for Marc Guehi

Howe’s side could revisit a move for Guehi then when the defender enters the final 12 months of his contract. However, competition for his signature will be high.

Spurs have today saw an offer rejected by Palace. The Athletic claims Ange Postecogelu’s side will try again in the summer.

David Ornstein posted on X: “Crystal Palace reject major bid from Tottenham Hotspur to sign Marc Guehi permanently. #THFC + other clubs expected to try again for 24yo England international in summer, when centre-back will have 12mnths left on #CPFC terms.”

When asked if the transfer rumours had affected him, Guehi said last year: “I would say yeah and no, When you are constantly reading things about yourself, it can be distracting for some people.

“I’m just glad I have a good support system around me, my family, the club, my friends. And it is important that humility, making sure you focus on the task at hand.

“Palace have given me every single thing in the world and I am completely grateful to them. I just want to repay them and give my best.”

Tottenham Hotspur supporters want change. This is not the first time the Spurs faithful have called for a drastic overhaul at the boardroom level.

A banner was unveiled by Tottenham supporters on a day which symbolised their miserable afternoon - and the state of limbo they find themselves in. The message read: “24 years, 16 managers, one trophy - time for change.

That clear directive to Daniel Levy came during a dismal 2-1 defeat to Leicester City. Despite being one of Newcastle United’s rivals for European football in pre-season, Spurs sit 15th, with seven wins and a staggering 13 league losses.

Both clubs could still meet each other in the Carabao Cup final - perhaps the only saving grace for Ange Postecoglou as his future becomes bleaker with each passing week. The irony is how Toon fans, in the not-so-distant past, were the ones venting their spleen and bringing out the banners of discontent.

Mike Ashley, a long-time rumoured Spurs supporter, was persona non grata on Tyneside for 13 of his 14 years. He oversaw immense regression at Newcastle, with fans not treated to the state-of-the-art stadium, title charges or Champions League finals that Tottenham have witnessed under Levy.

Instead, relegation fights and asset stripping were served up, with neglect and apathy as the dressing. The Magpies were a bigger entity than Spurs when Ashley bought the club and, in the cyclical world of football, appear to have surpassed them since the Saudi-backed regime came to town.

Postecoglou is facing the sack but Levy was the man in the crosshairs as Tottenham, for the first time, began fearing relegation. They want him out - a catch-22 situation that rival fans have seen before.

Ironically, the person to liberate Spurs from stagnation could be Newcastle’s own saviour. Amanda Staveley brokered the club’s sale to the Public Investment Fund following a lengthy legal battle in October 2021.

Her track record also includes Manchester City’s game-changing takeover 13 years earlier. Staveley is serious - and her getting involved in a direct Premier League rival would leave a sour taste.

"First of all, I think all we can do is thank the amazing Newcastle community and the founders for all the support that we had and continue to get," she said last year. "It's so hard to move on from a club that's amazing. We could never move on from Newcastle and we never will. But yes, we're looking at a number of investment operations.

"We can't say too much at the moment because of you know, rules around it. But we will be able to talk about it, hopefully in the not-too-distant future."

Tottenham are not the start-up project that Man City or Newcastle were. Spurs have a £1billion stadium with genuine quality in their squad. Admittedly, this has been a disastrous Premier League season by their standards but they have FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League campaigns still in play.

Would a full-scale, concerted effort from Tottenham supporters - akin to Newcastle’s boycott under Ashley - give Staveley further leverage? Absolutely. That point may not have arrived but the call for change is alive - expect a shrewd operator like Staveley to seize any opportunity she can.

Newcastle United were beaten 4-1 at home by AFC Bournemouth this weekend. Bruno Guimarães got their goal against the Cherries.

Eddie Howe’s side will want to bounce back from their disappointing loss as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours coming out of the club...

Newcastle United update regarding Baris Yilmaz

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Galatasaray attacker Baris Yilmaz along with Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa. The 24-year-old has caught the eye in the Super Lig this season.

However, in this latest update regarding his future by Turkish news outlet Fotospor, his current club have no plans to let him leave this month and plan to keep hold of him. The report claims Lazio have also looked into landing him.

Yilmaz, who is a Turkey international with 24 caps under his belt so far in his career, impressed at Euro 2024 in Germany last year. He is under contract in Istanbul until 2027.

He had spells as a youngster at Rize İl Özel İdarespor, Ankara Demirspor and Ankara Keçiörengücü before rocking up at Galatasaray as a relative unknown back in 2021. The winger has since become one of their most prized assets though and has scored 22 goals in 136 games in all competitions, 11 of which have come in this campaign.

Newcastle could see him as someone to boost their attacking ranks. They have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some players.

Tottenham Hotspur snubbed Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa apparently turned down the chance to sign Alexander Isak in the past. The Sweden international has been a standout player for Newcastle this term as they chase down European football.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has told Tottenham News: “It is the same with Isak – Tottenham could have signed Isak when he was at AIK Fotboll. I spoke to scouts at Spurs who had put dossiers together on Isak. Again, the recruitment staff at Tottenham at the time obviously ignored the possibility that Isak could be a successful player in the Premier League.

“Borussia Dortmund then came in and paid good money for him – around £6million. I was at Aston Villa and sat with people at Tottenham who were watching him, as I was. You might have thought he was a bit lightweight, but he was a good size, very quick and as far as I knew, Tottenham were far more interested than Aston Villa were.”

Isak, who is 25-years-old, linked up with the Toon Army back in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since. He has scored 52 goals in 90 games and is one of the most prolific forwards in the world right now.

Howe will be keen to keep hold of him for as long as possible. Newcastle are back in action next Saturday with an away trip down south to face a Southampton side who are bottom of the league.
