Andy Robertson has completed his free transfer from Liverpool to Tottenham Hotspur, signing a contract which will begin on July 1 after his deal at Anfield expires.

The 32-year-old is currently preparing to captain Scotland at the 2026 World Cup, where the Tartan Army will take on Haiti, Morocco and Brazil in the United States. Robertson did send a video message to supporters of his new club, where he explained how excited he is.

"I cannot wait to play for you guys, I cannot wait to meet you guys, I cannot wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you

"I’m already looking forward to next season."

Despite being one of the greatest defenders in Premier League history, 'Robbo' may be denied his ideal shirt number at the north London club.

Robertson Could Be Denied Spurs Number Not Worn in 14 Years

Throughout his club career, the Scottish defender has worn three different numbers on his back. At Queen's Park, Robertson bizarrely donned the No.11 on his back before switching to a more traditional number for a left-back.

He had the No.3 for his final season before leaving the club for Dundee United. This is where his most-used digits were born. The only number available at the Scottish Premiership outfit was 26. That's the shirt that has since become synonymous with the Scot, as he's stuck with it throughout his nine years at Liverpool.

"There was no meaning behind it really.

"It was the only number available when I joined Dundee United. It would soon have some significance. Just so happens, things have fallen on the 26th since then, such as my son being born! So it means a lot to me."

However, he is very likely to be denied the chance to continue with the No.26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That's because the shirt number hasn't been worn since ex-captain Ledley King retired in 2012.

While it hasn't been officially retired by the club, it has effectively become sacred due to King's legacy at the club and the significant injury issues he went through before hanging up his boots at just 31 years old.

Other Shirt Numbers Available to Robertson

If he is forced to choose another number at his new club, Robertson will have a few options to pick from. Vacant shirts at Spurs include two, five, six, 12 and 27.
