Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on the kind of team that will take to the field for Tottenham’s final Premier League game of the season against Brighton, as the Spurs players continued celebrating into Friday evening after their historic Europa League success.
It is fair to say that not many Tottenham players will be too keen on playing so soon after their historic achievement, with Heung-min Son even joking in Bilbao that the Brighton game should be called off.
Hundreds of thousands of Spurs fans took to the streets of North London on Friday for the club’s trophy parade, with the players in a jubilant mood.
Given what we have seen on social media over the last 12 hours, it is clear that celebrations continued well into the night on Friday.
Ange Postecoglou makes an admission ahead of Brighton clash
Given that the Tottenham squad and the coaching staff have been partying non-stop since their famous win on Wednesday, there may not have been too much in the way of preparation for the clash against the Seagulls.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Postecoglou has now admitted that some of the players who featured in Bilbao will not start Tottenham’s final league game of the season, including Cristian Romero, Heung-min Son, and maybe Yves Bissouma.
The Australian said (via Football.London): “There will be a couple of absences. Romero has been struggling with his toe for quite a while so we’ll leave him out and probably Sonny because his foot has still not healed. They’ve both sort of made a massive effort to get to the final. Bissouma got a knock in the game and he’s kind of 50/50 at the moment. The rest of them, physically anyway, are ok.
“We’ll field a team. As I’ve got older, I used to be different, I think you need to celebrate your achievements properly. That was my message to the boys. Important for them as they’ve achieved, important for those around them and important to make experiences as memorable as possible.
“It was important the boys celebrated as we’ve been through a lot. It’s how you create this winning mentality and bond.”
A celebratory atmosphere is expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
While fans did get an opportunity to see the players flaunt the trophy and their medals in the parade on Friday, Sunday will be the first time that the supporters see the team in action since the famous night in Bilbao.
The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been borderline toxic at times this season, but that will certainly not be the case tomorrow, with a celebratory atmosphere expected.
The end-of-season lap of honour will be special, and the current Tottenham squad is fully deserving of huge appreciation after the joy they have given to the fan base.
