Tottenham will be forever indebted to Ange Postecoglou for the work he did to bring the Europa League to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, in the same season, Tottenham could only muster a 17th-place finish in the Premier League and the North Londoners got extremely lucky that relegated Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich were so desperately bad.

The form showcased in the Europa League couldn’t save Postecoglou and although he quickly got another Premier League chance with Nottingham Forest, it must hurt that he wasn’t afforded more time by the board.

Now, with Tottenham trying desperately to improve under Thomas Frank, the football club has done something else that will perhaps leave Postecoglou feeling pretty frustrated.

Ange Postecoglou will be really annoyed at Tottenham transfer

Although Postecoglou can look back on his time at Tottenham with some fondness, even if he feels that he didn’t get quite enough time.

Harry Kane’s departure coincided with Postecoglou coming to the club, and during his first season in charge, he did relatively well with the resources at his disposal.

Tottenham are set to sign Conor Gallagher in the coming days, and that must really rankle with Postecoglou, who tried desperately to get him to North London only to find himself not being backed by the board.

Gallagher is set to join Tottenham after a solid spell with Atletico Madrid, and during a World Cup year, he will have a big point to prove to Thomas Frank.

MORE SPURS STORIES

With Daniel Levy now having sailed off into the sunset, perhaps Postecoglou will be left wondering what might have been had he got the chance to work under the current Tottenham board.

Fill in the blank: Conor Gallagher is a ______________ signing for Tottenham…

Is he actually what Spurs need right now?

Gallagher can help Thomas Frank keep his job

Gallagher perhaps doesn’t fall under stellar signings, but it’s fair to say that he’s a proven Premier League performer who should add some heart and determination to the team.

The 25-year-old has a lot of experience for a player of his age and he should arrive capable of lifting the team in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season.

Ultimately, Postecoglou didn’t do well enough with the tools at his disposal and although he had a lot of injuries, a large number of those were down to his rigorous training demands.

Only time will tell, but with Frank struggling to cling to his job, Gallagher might be just the sort of player who can provide an injection of quality to buy him some more time.
