TOTTENHAM are set to sign Hearts youngster James Wilson on loan – following interest from rivals Arsenal.

Striker Wilson, who already has one senior cap for Scotland, is to be farmed out to Spurs from Hearts with an option to buy.

Arsenal had also enquired about the 18-year-old but it is their North London rivals who look primed to land him.

The plan is for Wilson to go into Spurs’ Under-21s rather than Thomas Frank’s first team.

It means injury-hit Tottenham, who are 14th in the Premier League and out of both cups, look set to finish deadline day without a senior signing.

That is barring a last-minute shock transfer which SunSport is not expecting.

Spurs are believed to have no interest in deadline-day moves for Monaco playmaker Magnes Akliouche, nor former Aston Villa pair Moussa Diaby and Jhon Duran.

Akliouche, 23, was a summer target for Tottenham as an alternative at No10 had they not landed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

With Simons through the door, Spurs do not plan to go in for the Frenchman this window, whom they do not regard as a winger, despite their recent change in system to a 3-4-2-1 with two No10s.

Ex-Villa men Diaby, 26, and Duran, 22, are currently on the books of respective Saudi Pro League sides Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, though the latter has been on loan at Fenerbahce in the first half of the season.

Tottenham signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for around £35m earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Brennan Johnson – who scored the winner in the Europa League final last year – joined Crystal Palace for a similar fee.
