Tottenham remain interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi after attempting to sign him in January, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has revealed.

The Europa League winners saw their ambitious £70m bid rejected during the winter transfer window but have maintained their admiration for the English centre-back, who has no shortage of suitors in the Premier League.

Guehi will enter the final year of his Selhurst Park contract next month, and Tottenham are confident of winning the race for his signature this summer.

Spurs are believed to have identified the 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, who has recently been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

As Cristian Romero’s replacement

According to Mokbel, Tottenham are looking to add experience to their youthful squad this summer and plan to sign an established central midfielder along with a centre-back if Romero departs.

A move for Guehi would be a step in that direction – the 'world-class' defender has over 130 Premier League appearances and 23 England caps to his name.

Guehi has been strongly linked with a Palace exit during the past two transfer windows and was a target for Newcastle nearly a year ago.

The Eagles, who previously demanded ‘superstar money' for the 'superstar' defender, may now soften their stance with Guehi soon entering the final 12 months of his contract.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Guehi has scored two goals and provided two assists in 34 Premier League appearances this season.

Tottenham are likely to resolve Ange Postecoglou’s future before they pursue any signings, amid growing fears the Australian could lose his job despite leading Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years.

Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao on Wednesday night and secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.
