Because Of Lankshear: Nobody Is Talking About Tottenham Talent Tearing It Up On Loan

There's been a lot of talk about Tottenham allowing Will Lankshear to leave the club for Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window after he enjoyed a phenomenal start to the season.

Lankshear made the move to promotion-chasing Middlesbrough in the summer, and he started the season in ridiculous goal-scoring form.

The 21-year-old has 13 goals in just 12 starts in the Championship, scoring 15 times in all competitions.

Given Tottenham's struggles in front of goal of late, many have questioned whether it was the right move for Spurs to allow him to depart on a permanent deal.

Dominic Solanke is underperforming in front of goal for Tottenham, while Omar Marmoush hasn't hit the ground running.

Whether Lankshear could replicate that kind of goal-scoring form in the Premier League is unclear. Despite that, Tottenham maybe should have just allowed him to depart on loan rather than permanently.

Either way, Lankshear wasn't the only talented young striker Tottenham currently have at the club. Another gem Spurs have in the academy is Oliver Boast, who has scored 16 goals in just 12 appearances this season. And they also have another talented youngster out on loan.

Everyone appears to be focusing on Lankshear's form and Tottenham's potential regret about selling him, while failing to realise the form another young talent, Jamie Donley, is in.

The 21-year-old is currently with Jack Wilshere's Luton Town in League One, and he's enjoyed an impressive start to the season.

Donley has been switching between playing as a number 10 and a striker throughout his career, while also playing out wide.

In League One, Donley has seven goal contributions in just 11 starts, and he's become a key part of Wilshere's team this campaign.

This isn't his first impressive loan spell either. During the 24-25 season, Donley produced 19 goal contributions for Leyton Orient before returning to Tottenham after his loan spell.

Donley might not be at the level of Lankshear just yet, but he's certainly producing some promising performances that are perhaps going unnoticed.

Tottenham must show pathway for youngsters

Tottenham have seen many young talents come and go over the years, but they still have plenty remaining at the club. Luca Williams-Barnett is possibly the most prominent in the team at the moment, coming off the bench at the weekend for Spurs.

Tottenham also allowed Luka Vuskovic to leave the club for Brighton in the summer transfer window, and he's gone on to become one of the best signings of the summer.

Tottenham need to start showing more of a pathway to the first team for young players if they want them to remain. That will help prevent losing players and ensure that players like Lankshear, Donley, Vuskovic, and Williams-Barnett will want to stick around in the future.

Roberto De Zerbi has been fairly reluctant to use academy stars of late, but that might have to change if Tottenham want to keep them.
