Better Than Gibbs-White: Tottenham Make Contact to Sign 'Superstar', Wants Move

Tottenham Hotspur's transfer window has kicked into life in recent days, with a number of incomings and potential signings coming into the frame - and one star must now be prioritised over Morgan Gibbs-White as a huge delay in the move to take him from Nottingham Forest plunged any transfer into doubt.

Spurs had a shocking campaign in the Premier League last time out, finishing in a lowly 17th under Ange Postecoglou to record their worst-ever finish since 1978, where they won promotion from the second-tier. However, the Australian boss departed with the Europa League trophy, ending a 17-year wait for silverware - and now that has given new man Thomas Frank money to spend.

Reports: Tottenham Bid for Gibbs-White Crumbling, Interest in Simons

Tottenham have spent £55million of that on Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, with the Ghanaian making the switch across the capital after two seasons at the London Stadium - and they looked to follow that up with a move for Forest star Gibbs-White, having activated his £60million release clause ahead of their Champions League campaign.

But with that deal falling through for now after Forest's claims that the playmaker was 'illegally' approached, it should see Tottenham move on to Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig, with the Dutchman wanting to leave the Bundesliga outfit.

Leipzig failed to qualify for any European competition last season, the first time they've done so since they were promoted to the Bundesliga via a seventh-placed finish - and now Simons wants to depart the club, with a report by The Athletic stating that the Netherlands star has told Leipzig that he wishes to depart despite only joining them permanently in January after a loan spell, scoring 10 goals in 25 Bundesliga games.

And, with GIVEMESPORT's senior correspondent Ben Jacobs stating last month that Tottenham have enquired over a move for his services, alongside the Gibbs-White bid beginning to crumble, Simons should be their top target.

Simons Would be a Better Signing Than Gibbs-White

The Dutchman has an incredibly high ceiling when it comes to potential

There is no doubting Gibbs-White's quality. He's been the main driving force for Forest's surge up the table, and with England caps to boot, he's evidently a desirable target.

But Simons has a much higher ceiling in terms of potential, and with three years on Gibbs-White, Tottenham would be buying themselves time and quality for the 'superstar' to flourish.

At Simons' current age, Gibbs-White had only had 48 Premier League appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers, with a successful loan spell at Sheffield United showing his talents and ability to perform in the Premier League.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Xavi Simons has five goals for the Netherlands' senior squad.

Simons, by contrast, has made 11 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, an enthralling campaign for PSV Eindhoven with 22 goals in just 48 games, as well as 21 in 76 for Leipzig - and having made 28 caps for the Netherlands, he's had more international experience.

Signing someone for the same position and having the ability to close a deal without lawyers being involved will be a huge plus for Daniel Levy, and if a deal can be completed for a similar price, it makes a lot of sense for the north London outfit to venture on with a deal for him instead of Gibbs-White.
