Leeds United can move back into third place with a victory from Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace - ahead of which the Whites have received fresh backing from Opta’s supercomputer in its new predicted final table and points.

Leeds initially moved third after just four games played with Monday night’s very impressive 4-1 win at home to Newcastle United and the Whites have only dropped three places after Friday and Saturday’s results.

Brentford jumped above Daniel Farke’s Whites with a 3-0 win at home to Chelsea on Friday night and the shock of the weekend then saw Brighton move third with Saturday afternoon’s 3-0 triumph at home to Arsenal.

Everton are the third team to have gone above Leeds with Saturday’s 1-0 win at home to Ipswich Town on a day which featured more misery for winless Tottenham who suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the day’s lunchtime game.

Newcastle, meanwhile, bounced back from their defeat at Elland Road with a 2-1 win at home to Hull City.

But a win against fourth-bottom Palace would send Leeds back into third and even a draw would take the Whites fifth when the initial aim is to survive the club’s second season back in the Premier League.

As Nottingham Forest prepared to take on Coventry City in Saturday’s teatime game, data experts Opta produced their latest predicted final table and points which features fresh Leeds backing but another shocker for troubled Tottenham and a big Palace call.
