Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a blow in their efforts to sign RC Lens’ Robin Risser in the summer.
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from France of Tottenham making a concrete approach for the stopper.
Spurs are planning to compete with Newcastle United to try and bring him to the Premier League.
He joined the Ligue 1 side from RC Strasbourg in July 2025 and has enjoyed regular game time in his debut season.
The goalkeeper’s Ligue 1 stats are as follows:
Appearances: 28
Starts: 28
Clean sheets: 10
Goals conceded: 27
Saves: 73
Saves per game: 2.6
Tottenham to miss out on signing
Jeunes Footeux now claim Robin Risser is being chased by Tottenham Hotspur and a few other clubs, but he has no plans to leave RC Lens in the summer.
On Wednesday, the Frenchman spoke at a press conference and made his future plans clear. The same outlet has relayed his comments.
“I’m under contract with the club until 2030. I’m determined to stay here. I feel really at home here. Both my wife and I have found a sense of stability here. Every morning, when I come to the club, I can’t wait to pull on this shirt and train,” he said.
“I don’t think I’ve reached the end of my journey here. Especially as we’ve got a magnificent end to the season ahead of us.
“Next season, I think there are also, and I hope so, great things in store for us, provided we finish this season strongly. I’m not thinking about anywhere else.”
“For me, I feel privileged to be here. It’s important to honour this shirt right to the end. We’ll see where that takes us. I’m convinced that next year, I’ll be wearing this shirt.”
Our take: Spurs need new stopper
Guglielmo Vicario is the No.1 at Tottenham Hotspur and earlier today, Sport Witness relayed news that Spurs won’t oppose his summer sale.
Inter Milan have been working on signing him after this season and have an agreement in place with the Italian.
Faced with this situation, Robert De Zerbi’s side have to look for a new goalkeeper in the next window. Spurs have already made a concrete approach to sign Robin Risser, but he rules out a move away from RC Lens.
Therefore, the north London club have to look elsewhere if Vicario were to leave after this season.
