Tottenham are planning a midfield revamp this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur look set to confirm two new signings on free transfers this summer, with Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi joining the club from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively.

Spurs are making some smart moves in the transfer market, as head coach Roberto De Zerbi looks to put his stamp on the injury-ravaged squad he helped to beat the drop narrowly on the final day of the past season. The Italian’s priority lies in tightening the screws at the back, but Tottenham need quality in the middle of the park too.

Yves Bissouma is set to be released upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June, while Joao Palhinha’s future needs to be resolved quickly. Lucas Bergvall barely got a look-in under De Zerbi, and famous Spurs podcaster John Wenham feels the young Swede could depart on loan to continue his development. This shows why signing a central midfielder is essential, despite bringing in Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid during the winter transfer window.

Tottenham get boost in the pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott

Recent reports suggest Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is one of Spurs’ primary midfield targets of the transfer window. This is because of the season he has just completed, playing a key role in the Cherries’ qualification for Europa League football. As there’s been plenty of competition within the England setup, the Guernsey-born talent was unfortunate to miss out on a place on the plane to North America for the 2026 World Cup.

Alex Scott, who scored three goals in 37 Premier League games and picked up the Supporters’ Player of the Year award, has been offered a new contract by Bournemouth. However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, the 22-year-old is showing no immediate desire to sign an extension.

The Englishman’s current deal runs until 2028. The Cherries feel no pressure to sell the young midfielder and are keen to keep him to build continuity under incoming manager Marco Rose. The report adds Scott’s progress has been tracked by the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa. The south coast club value him at £60million amid strong interest from Premier League rivals.

Scott stalling on a new deal at the Vitality Stadium should come as a boost for Tottenham and his other suitors. The North London club do hold a slight advantage over their Premier League rivals, should they look to pursue a move, given the box-to-box midfielder grew up as a Tottenham fan.

The former England Under-21 international has the required qualities to elevate Tottenham’s midfield. He’d be a straight upgrade on the error-prone Bissouma, whilst enhancing our club’s pool of young talent. That said, it remains to be seen whether our club officials test Bournemouth’s resolve for the highly-rated Scott.
