Brentford boss Keith Andrews has revealed Sepp van den Berg will miss the opening stages of the Premier League season with a groin injury.

The Bees will kick off the 2026-27 Premier League season with a clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Andrews has the majority of his squad available for the Premier League opener, although he will be unable to call upon Van den Berg and Antoni Milambo.

Van den Berg is set to miss the "first few weeks" of the new campaign after struggling with injury in pre-season.

Van den Berg to miss start of Premier League season

“Sepp has a groin issue,” Andrews told reporters on Friday. “We’ve had to manage that in a certain way. He needs a little bit more rest, unfortunately for Sepp.

“He’s had a disjointed pre-season - it hasn’t flowed as well as we’d have liked - so we’re going to have to look after him in the short term. He’ll miss the first few weeks of the season.”

The Brentford head coach also delivered an update on Milambo, who has been out of action since last October with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

“Antoni is a few weeks behind with the injury," Andrews said. “It’s not an exact science, naturally, but he’s had a really positive couple of weeks.

“He’s been training with the group for a number of weeks - sometimes modified, sometimes full training. He’s making really good strides.”

Andrews ready to hand new signings Brentford debuts

Brentford have bolstered their squad with the additions of Jannik Schuster, Ibrahim Sangare, Callum Wilson and Jaidon Anthony ahead of the new season.

Andrews made it clear he is ready to throw his new signings straight into the fold when he asked whether the quartet could make their debuts on Saturday.

“Yes, I’d anticipate so," Andrews said. "We’ve brought four players in from other clubs, and we’re really happy with the business we’ve done and the impact they’ve made, both on and off the pitch.

“I have no doubt you’ll see some of them tomorrow.”

Brentford will be aiming to become the first team to beat Tottenham on the opening day of the Premier League season since Everton in 2020-21.
