Brentford boss Thomas Frank has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacant Tottenham job, and Spurs have just been handed a major boost in their pursuit of the Bees manager.
Tottenham Hotspur have only just broken one of the biggest stories of the summer, after announcing the departure of Ange Postecoglou on the second anniversary of his appointment.
If you have been keeping up with Spurs Web’s coverage, the news may not have come as something of a surprise, given that most reports had claimed Postecoglou’s fate had already been sealed and that he was set to be sacked.
Tottenham issued a lengthy statement, thanking Postecoglou for his commitment to the club and for delivering a piece of silverware in just two seasons.
However, they also made it clear that a return of only 78 points from their last 66 Premier League matches was not deemed good enough, and that they had decided to look elsewhere.
The statement concluded: “We should like to express our gratitude to him [Postecoglou]. We wish him well for the future – he will always be welcome back at our home. News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course.”
Brentford will not block Thomas Frank if Tottenham come calling
With an official appointment of a new manager expected soon, Sky Sports is now reporting that one of the frontrunners for the Tottenham job would face no resistance from his current club, should he wish to leave.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Tottenham have been linked with Brentford manager Thomas Frank for some time now, and reports have previously suggested that Spurs have already held talks with the Dane, with the project in north London having been outlined to him in those discussions.
Sky Sports News (6/6/26 – 4:53pm) now state that Brentford will not stand in Thomas Frank’s way if he chooses to join a bigger club this summer, which undoubtedly represents a significant boost for Tottenham as they search for Postecoglou’s successor.
Spurs interest in Thomas Frank shows his growing reputation
Thomas Frank has certainly impressed during his time at Brentford, with the Dane leading the Bees to two top-half finishes across the last three Premier League seasons.
Frank has also received high praise from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who claimed back in 2024 that the 51-year-old was destined for a move to a bigger club.
Pep said after Brentford gave his side another scare in the Premier League: “They are an extraordinary team. What they do always makes sense. Every corner is a headache. They are compact. This season, they have a high press. Thomas is one of the best.”
Asked if he was surprised that Frank – who was appointed assistant head coach at Brentford in 2016 before replacing Dean Smith two years later – was still not managing one of Europe’s elite clubs, Guardiola replied: “It is just a question of time. I am good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good. It is going to happen.”(BBC Sport)
