Bruno Guimaraes has sent a warning to his Newcastle United teammates after drawing with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old produced a wonderful cameo at St James’ Park on Tuesday night, but it was not enough to inspire his side to victory. Newcastle United drew 2-2 with Spurs, despite leading twice.

The Magpies conceded a 95th minute equaliser from Cristian Romero, with Aaron Ramsdale criticised for his role in the goal.

It is a draw that feels like a defeat for Newcastle United, who missed the chance to climb into the top half of the Premier League table.

Late HEARTBREAK 😫 Who was your Newcastle MOTM against Tottenham?👏🏻

Bruno Guimaraes calls out Newcastle United’s ‘mentality’ after Spurs draw

Following Newcastle’s draw with Spurs, Bruno Guimaraes took to his official Instagram account to send a very strong message to both his teammates and supporters.

He wrote: “Bad feeling not being able to come away with the three points, especially right at the end of the match. We need to improve our mentality so that mistakes like this don’t happen again.

“On Saturday we have another opportunity at home, which we can’t afford to waste.”

As Bruno says, Newcastle have a chance to respond on Saturday against Burnley. The Brazilian midfielder will likely return to the starting XI to face the Clarets, having initially dropped to the bench against Spurs.

The captain was introduced at half-time and put Newcastle 1-0 in front, but he and his teammates were not able to protect that lead. They were not able to protect a 2-1 lead either after Anthony Gordon converted a penalty.

More points thrown away, do Newcastle United have a mentality problem?😠

Bruno has issued a statement after the frustrating draw.

Why Bruno Guimaraes came on at half-time during Newcastle United vs Spurs

When Eddie Howe’s starting XI was announced, it was a major shock to see Bruno drop to the bench.

The Newcastle United manager had taken the chance to rest his skipper, with Sandro Tonali coming into the side and Lewis Miley retaining his place after a strong display versus Everton.

It was Tonali who Bruno replaced at the beginning of the second half, which certainly shocked the Toon Army.

However, Howe confirmed after the game that the decision to take Tonali off was enforced through injury.

“Sandro took a knock in the first half,” he told the Chronicle.

“I don’t quite know the extent of the injury or what type of injury it is.”
