Bryan Gil finally left Tottenham on transfer deadline day as he completed a move to Girona.
The winger spent the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with the La Liga outfit, and has since completed a permanent move there, with an £8.6million deal agreed before the recent deadline.
Gil struggled massively at Tottenham, as he never really displayed the level of consistency that is required to become a regular feature for a Premier League team.
Thomas Frank’s arrival didn’t change his situation at all, but the Spanish star’s failings in N17 may not have been all of his own doing.

Bryan Gil ‘mismanaged’ during his time with Tottenham
At one stage on deadline day, it looked as though Gil was likely to leave Tottenham for free, as reports in Spain suggested that he could potentially terminate his contract in North London.
In the end, the Lilywhites were able to secure a fee for the out-of-favour man, even though it was only an insignificant amount.
Gil was an exciting young prospect when he first joined from Sevilla back in 2021, but he never adapted to life in the Premier League, and left having made just 22 league appearances throughout his stay.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the wideman could have been managed better in N17, and is also surprised that he didn’t leave for free.
“I think there’s still a good player in there because when he went on loan to Girona, he got back in the Spain squad,” Wenham said.
“So there’s obviously it’s still a good player in there, but he’s been mismanaged from the beginning. At least Gil has gone for £8.6m.
“I’m surprised, I was waiting for him to not renew (his contract) and go for free at the end of the season or wait for a payoff to go. So we actually sold someone for money.”
Bryan Gil was never right for the Premier League
Gil had moments for Tottenham where he showed the quality that was expected from him when he was first brought in, but these were ultimately too few and far between.
The 24-year-old struggled with the physicality of the Premier League, and that prevented him from ever really showcasing the true extent of his ability in North London.
It was a signing that never really worked out for Spurs, who will undoubtedly be glad to see the back of Gil, especially since they were able to generate a small fee for him.
