Tottenham Hotspur supporters may have an even bigger part to play against Everton than they previously imagined this weekend.

Spurs head into their final-day showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium knowing that a point will keep them up.

That is thanks to their superior goal difference on West Ham, who are two points worse off and face Leeds United at home in their last match.

Tottenham fans need no reminding of how poor their side have been on home soil this campaign, while Everton have performed well on their travels.

But there is one stat that could work in Spurs’ favour this weekend against a mid-table Everton outfit.

Everton unable to keep hold of leads

Everton have been chasing a European spot for most of the season but have badly faded in recent weeks, going six games without a win now.

The Toffees lost 3-1 to Sunderland last time out on home soil, although they have performed much better on their travels this campaign.

Indeed, only Manchester City and Arsenal have collected more away points than Everton in the Premier League this term.

But David Moyes’ side are also winless in four away from Merseyside and lost 2-1 at West Ham United last time out.

Furthermore, Everton have showed a weak underbelly, as they have led at some point in each of their last three top-flight games but have failed to win any.

Only in October 1999 have they led but failed to win in four consecutive matches in the Premier League.

That just goes to show that should Everton take the lead on Sunday, and tensions reach fever pitch, Spurs fans need to remain patient and get fully behind Roberto De Zerbi‘s players.

Everton’s dire record against Tottenham

De Zerbi’s options are limited against Everton in terms of team selection, with James Maddison possibly set for a first start of the campaign.

Whatever side he sends out, they will no doubt be fired up knowing it is do-or-die as far as Tottenham’s survival hopes are concerned.

And Spurs’ record against Everton at home makes for good reading, having lost just one out of the past 16 meetings, winning 11 of those.

In fact, the Lilywhites have won the last four by an aggregate score of 13-1, so recent history is certainly on their side.

All this points towards what should be a memorable day for Tottenham fans for all the right reasons, with West Ham going down at their expense.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Everton - De Zerbi takes calculated risk as James Maddison starts - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur head into the weekend knowing they are within touching distance of Premier League survival, requiring just a point against Everton.

With the Toffees visiting North London, Roberto De Zerbi’s side could secure their place in the division with a point, thanks to their two-point cushion over West Ham, who have a far inferior goal difference.

Spurs slipped to a frustrating defeat against Chelsea on Tuesday, handing the Hammers a lifeline.

However, the Lilywhites remain in control of the situation, with West Ham relying on an Everton win.

The task is simple: turn up on the day and the job is done, allowing the club to put what has been a dismal campaign firmly in the past.

Roberto De Zerbi’s options limited vs Everton

Returning to the Tottenham squad for the first time this season last month, James Maddison has impressed, despite not being fully up to speed.

As expected with the midfielder, the Englishman is always looking to take the ball and make things happen – something that Spurs lost with the injury to Xavi Simons against Wolves.

After a pair of lively cameos off the bench against Leeds and Chelsea, De Zerbi may be left with no choice but to throw Maddison into the starting XI on the final day.

Even if he can only get an hour of football under his belt, it would make complete sense to field him from the off to get the early impact, and potentially see Tottenham take full control of the situation at the bottom without having to worry about what goes on at the London Stadium.

He comes in for Rodrigo Bentancur, with the limited options elsewhere continuing to hold De Zerbi back, explaining why he has named the same XI for three games running.

Randal Kolo Muani and Mathys Tel keep their spots out wide, with the pair being the only real options despite neither possessing the traits of a more natural winger.

The likes of Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert remain sidelined, with De Zerbi likely desperate for their returns, alongside the coming transfer window, where options out wide are likely to be a huge priority.

De Zerbi and Tottenham have clear priority vs Everton

With survival on the line, the Lilywhites must take control early on against Everton.

With West Ham gunning for three points, there could be a situation where all the pressure is left on Spurs to turn up should the Hammers take an early lead in their clash.

And based on how Tottenham have performed under pressure this term, that is not a situation fans in North London want to be in.

Should they take the ascendancy from the off, and maybe even net an early goal, the predicament at the bottom could be kept under control.

The last thing needed is a nervy afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the priority for De Zerbi and his side being to avoid this at all costs.

Roberto De Zerbi to be confident as Michael Oliver appointed for Tottenham vs Everton

Roberto De Zerbi to be confident as Michael Oliver appointed for Tottenham vs Everton - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi will be confident of Tottenham Hotspur’s chances versus Everton with Michael Oliver appointed as the referee.

This weekend looks set to be one of the most important matches in Tottenham’s modern history, as the prospect of Championship football stares the Lilywhites directly in the face.

It has been a season from hell for the N17 outfit, who will hope to put it behind them by achieving a result against the Toffees.

Everton have little left to play for, with their European hopes in tatters. That could signal positive news for De Zerbi.

However, ahead of Tottenham versus Everton, the Italian may be more positive about the Premier League’s latest announcement.

What is the full official lineup for Tottenham vs Everton?

The Premier League has issued the full announcement for referees and officials to participate in the final day of the season.

Michael Oliver will take up his role as referee when Tottenham host Everton in a crucial match for Spurs’ Premier League status.

Among Premier League referees this season, Oliver is one of the least strict across the division, which will bode well.

He places third from bottom for yellow cards per game (2.96) according to WhoScored. While his fouls per tackles of 0.65 are more or less average among his colleagues.

Hopefully there will not be too many decisions he has to make and Tottenham can keep the game flowing.

Why Tottenham will have optimism with Michael Oliver in charge

It is not often that the appointment of a specific referee could bring a good omen, but on this occasion, Spurs have the rub of the green.

Tottenham have a positive record with Oliver taking charge in the centre circle. Spurs have a points per game total of 2.12 when the Geordie referee officiates.

They have also won 50.9 per cent of their games, although this season, they have lost all three fixtures where Oliver was selected to officiate.

Overall, though, De Zerbi may be brimming with more confidence ahead of this weekend’s Premier League conclusion.

The Lilywhites need just a draw to secure Premier League survival, unless the Hammers shock the top flight with a 12-goal win.

Tottenham’s home record does cause concern, but hopefully their history with Oliver can outweigh those negatives.

Danny Murphy hits the Tottenham nail on the head as he shares one worry for Everton clash

Danny Murphy hits the Tottenham nail on the head as he shares one worry for Everton clash - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Danny Murphy has provided his verdict for Tottenham Hotspur’s final-day clash against Everton as they look to pip West Ham to survival.

The former Spurs player has not delivered the most optimistic assessment of Sunday’s fixture, with the 49-year-old having one major concern about his previous employers.

It has been an utterly disastrous campaign for the N17 outfit, and it would further be compounded by dropping into the Championship next season.

As things stand, survival is in the hands of the Lilywhites and not in that of West Ham’s.

It is a final-day position that Tottenham will be glad to be in, but according to Murphy, things could turn quite uncomfortable.

What has Danny Murphy said he is worried about with Tottenham?

Tottenham missed the chance to end the Premier League relegation battle against Chelsea, with West Ham now holding some hope of an escape.

The Lilywhites have taken the fight to the last day of the season after failing to secure a result at Stamford Bridge.

For Murphy, he has one big concern about Spurs when they face Everton, and that is that they must start fast against the Toffees.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Tottenham midfielder Murphy stated: “I think it will be a tiny margin on the day. A lot will depend on Tottenham’s start to the game. I think if they were to go a goal down, nerves would kick in.”

The ex-pro turned pundit is essentially questioning Spurs’ bottle to turn up when the going gets tough, and his words are not empty analysis either.

Danny Murphy is spot on in Tottenham assessment

Unfortunately, his assessment of this Spurs squad is entirely correct. In 19 of this season’s Premier League games, the Lilywhites have gone behind to the opening goal.

And in those fixtures, Tottenham have yet to win a game from that position. In fact, they have lost 13 of those ties and drawn six.

While Spurs do only need a point to effectively secure survival due to the goal difference disparity, a 31 per cent success rate at achieving that outcome from going 1-0 down is not exactly a confident position to be in.

Although the supercomputer has high hopes for Tottenham this weekend.

It also gives Spurs a points-per-game total of just 0.31 when trying to fight back from conceding the opener.

So ahead of facing Everton, the goal for the N17 outfit is clear. They must be compact; they must be organised and, at all costs, avoid conceding the first goal of the game.

History suggests the final result will not be too kind if they fail to do so.

Tottenham fans don’t deserve what’s happening as Redknapp speaks for everyone - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are potentially 90 minutes away from being relegated from the Premier League, with their fans being made to pay.

Spurs knew a point from Tuesday’s trip to bogey ground Stamford Bridge would have effectively sealed safety with a game to go.

However, Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos struck for Chelsea, prior to Richarlison’s consolation goal, as Chelsea came out on top 2-1.

That leaves the Lilywhites now needing a point at home to Everton on the final day, should West Ham beat Leeds United in their final game.

It makes for a very tense finale to a campaign that will go down as one of the worst in Tottenham’s history.

Tottenham face tougher final game than West Ham

Roberto De Zerbi has rightly described the visit of Everton this coming weekend as a “final” for Tottenham.

If Spurs lose and West Ham beat Leeds, Tottenham will drop into the second tier for the first time since 1977.

Tuesday’s trip to Chelsea was a huge opportunity missed, coinciding with Arsenal being crowned champions, with Jamie Redknapp speaking for a lot of Spurs fans with his comments.

“Can you imagine North London if Arsenal win the title and Tottenham go down,” he said on Sky Sports. “How would that feel to Tottenham fans? They don’t deserve that.”

“They are sleepwalking towards relegation. I said it earlier this season. The only thing that’s saved them is a couple of good results.

“Now they’ve got to find a way to win a game at home. Their home form has been horrendous all season. They’ve had no quality and no character to win a football match.

“Now they’ve got to find a way to beat Everton. I’d rather be playing Leeds at home than Everton. Do I still think they survive by the skin of their teeth?

“Maybe, because I think there’s a chance they could draw at the weekend. But can they win? They haven’t won at home since December. December!”

Redknapp is spot on to flag Tottenham’s dreadful home record, which is what will make fans particularly anxious heading into the final day.

No Premier League teams has worse home record than Tottenham

Opta’s supercomputer still has Tottenham as strong favourites to survive Premier League relegation.

However, a deeper look at the stats highlight why fans are not as confident. Tottenham are joint-bottom of the table for home results only this season

Spurs have taken just 12 points from a possible 54 on their own patch this campaign – the same number as Burnley and two fewer than Wolves.

What is particularly concerning is that Everton have been better on the road this season than at home, having taken 26 points so far – only Manchester City and Arsenal have more on their travels.

Losing to Chelsea is nothing new – only against Manchester United (40 vs 39) have Spurs lost more times in the Premier League – but the manner of it was a worry.

De Zerbi named the same starting XI for a third game running, which Spurs last did in April 2023, but he may need a rethink against Everton.

The bottom line is that the statistics do not lie. Tottenham are where they are for a reason, and if this game goes to form, Spurs will need a favour from Leeds if they are to stay up.

Tottenham’s Premier League relegation chances updated by supercomputer after Chelsea loss

Tottenham's Premier League relegation chances updated by supercomputer after Chelsea loss - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur‘s relegation chances have shifted once again after their loss to Chelsea.

Once again falling against their rivals at Stamford Bridge, Roberto De Zerbi‘s side are left having to secure survival on the final day against Everton.

There has been a clear uptick in performance under the Italian, though Spurs have been unable to pull away from the drop zone to what is really, a lack of quality.

Survival remains in their hands, with a two-point lead over West Ham heading into Sunday, but there is unnecessary pressure after a string of underwhelming results.

Ahead of the weekend, Opta’s supercomputer has given its verdict on the final standings.

Supercomputer drops verdict ahead of Tottenham final-day showdown

Fortunately, things look much better for Tottenham than they did a month ago.

Picking up successive wins against Wolves and Aston Villa, the Lilywhites were able to climb out of the bottom three – before the two most recent results have left them unable to pull away.

Heading to Stamford Bridge, Spurs were considered the underdogs, with Chelsea given a 45.5 per cent chance of taking three points, compared to Tottenham’s 29.9 per cent.

This was unsurprising given their record of just one win in 35 at the home of the Blues, before it proved correct on the evening, despite the visitors racking up an xG of 1.72, while Chelsea scored twice from a figure of 0.63.

As a result, all is there to play for on the final day.

Thankfully for Spurs, their fate remains within their own hands, and this is reflected in Opta‘s supercomputer prediction.

Heading into Sunday, De Zerbi’s side’s chances of finishing 17th sit at 86.67 per cent, with the remaining figure of 13.33 per cent sitting as their relegation chances.

Nonetheless, Spurs will have to cover themselves from whatever West Ham get up to against a Leeds side riddled with injuries, with nothing of their own to play for as they see out the season.

Tottenham will want to rid 2025-26 season from their memories

The current campaign has been one to forget for Tottenham, who have just been unable to get going throughout the season.

Despite a clear improvement in performance under De Zerbi, the lack of quality in what is an incredibly thin squad has continued to cost him throughout his time in the dugout.

With Everton making the trip to North London, there are good omens for Sours, having lost just once at home to the Toffees since making the stadium move in 2019, with this coming behind closed doors in 2020.

At the same time, David Moyes’ side are also unable to achieve a European spot as a result of their recent form, and the big Chelsea win in the battle for continental spots.

Against a team without much to play for, Tottenham have to relish the occasion, and ensure that their destiny remains in their hands, avoiding letting the result at the London Stadium impact what happens in North London.

Tottenham: Luka Vuskovic is ready to make talismanic leap while Spurs hold transfer power

Tottenham can demand ‘huge fee’ for Luka Vuskovic ahead of true breakthrough

Tottenham Hotspur have been told that Luka Vuskovic is more than ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

The defender joined the Lilywhites permanently last summer before being sent out on loan to Hamburg in search of regular minutes.

Since then, his spell in the Hanseatic city could hardly have gone any better for all parties.

Becoming a talismanic figure for the Red Shorts, Vuskovic emerged as a leader in Merlin Polzin’s side as they secured survival following their promotion to the Bundesliga.

With a return to Spurs now on the cards, Bundesliga expert Rune Gjerulff believes the 19-year-old is more than ready to make the step to the Premier League, should they seal their spot this week.

Luka Vuskovic ready for Tottenham step as Hamburg loan expires

An unbelievable presence in the backline, Vuskovic has proven crucial to Hamburg’s survival push.

Astonishingly, the 19-year-old finished the season as Hamburg’s second-highest scorer, with six goals to his name.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bulinews.com Editor-in-Chief Gjerulff was questioned on the current situation in North London and whether Vuskovic is ready to step into a key role under Roberto De Zerbi.

Given that, likely, one of, if not both, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will leave this summer, Gjerulff said: “Sure, I can’t see why he shouldn’t.

“I think he already has the footballing ability, physicality, and mentality to play a key role for Spurs in the Premier League next season,” he added.

Top-flight status, however, remains the most crucial factor for Tottenham, with their woeful season potentially playing into the hands of prospective suitors.

Gjerulff, though, is convinced that the Lilywhites hold all the cards.

“Yes, definitely,” he said when asked whether his performances have put him in the shop window more than they would have liked.

“At this point, Tottenham may well prefer to keep him, so in that sense it’s not ideal if interest from bigger clubs turns his head.

“But even if he were to leave this summer, Spurs would still be in a position to command a huge fee because he’s clearly one of the most talented young centre-backs in the world.”

Tottenham have a star on their hands in Vuskovic

For years, one of the biggest criticisms of Tottenham has been the character – or rather the lack of it – on the pitch.

This season, many within the squad have come under fire, including defenders Van de Ven and Romero, both of whom could leave this summer.

Vuskovic is not just a fantastic centre-back with sky-high potential; he is also a tremendous character, despite not making his official senior debut yet at Spurs.

From the first day of his loan spell, he has embraced the club, its culture, and its fanbase.

Leading by example at such a young age, and at such a big club, the Croatian has become the beating heart of the former European champions.

Alongside the pending returns of Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore in particular, Tottenham have a core of youngsters to build around, with Vuskovic central to it all.

Roberto De Zerbi must drop Joao Palhinha after ‘absolutely ridiculous’ Tottenham scenes vs Chelsea

Roberto De Zerbi must drop Joao Palhinha after ‘absolutely ridiculous’ Tottenham scenes vs Chelsea - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi can’t persist with Joao Palhinha in Tottenham Hotspur‘s midfield after the … against Chelsea.

The Portuguese star started the contest, as he has done in the last two matches, but he was not up to his usual solid standard.

Enzo Fernandez’s first-half strike was the difference between the sides, as the Lilywhites could not find a way back, and now could be relegated on the final day.

Palhinha’s night was summed up by scenes which left Jamie Carragher furious and highlighted the issues that Spurs have faced all season.

De Zerbi may well be minded to drop Palhinha after that, as he could not keep his composure when he needed him to.

What left Carragher livid in Chelsea vs Tottenham

One particularly embarrassing Tottenham moment for Palhinha, when he fouled Josh Acheampong in the 31st minute of the contest.

Sky Sports commentator Carragher slammed him for getting caught up in the Stamford Bridge star’s antics and committing the foul.

Speaking on the live broadcast on 19 May (20:46pm), he said: “A man of his experience making a foul there is absolutely ridiculous.

“One of the most infuriating things in football, that, guy going absolutely nowhere and you give a foul away.”

Why Carragher was right to criticise Palhinha

Carragher was absolutely right to slam Palhinha for the scenes at the Bridge, as he said, a player of his experience should know better than to even get involved.

His general performance in the contest was poor, though, so it is not a surprise that he got frustrated and reacted.

He completed 96 per cent of his passes, and made four passes into the final third, but failed to create a chance for a teammate, per Fotmob.

Defensively, he made two tackles, two clearances, one interception and seven recoveries, but duels was where his showing was really telling.

He won just three of eight on the ground for a 38 per cent success rate, and won one of two in the air, for a 50 per cent success rate.

He also committed three fouls, which did not help his side to get up the pitch and make something happen, and it was telling that he only lasted 69 minutes.

Given that his future is uncertain anyway, with it not being guaranteed that Spurs will activate the buy option in his loan, it makes sense to drop him for the last game of the season with Everton, given what is at stake.

Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

Roberto De Zerbi‘s side were pulled apart with goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos at Stamford Bridge, before Richarlison scored a consolation.

The result leaves Spurs two points ahead of West Ham, just above the relegation zone, after they failed to pull away.

A draw would have essentially sealed survival due to the Lilywhites’ goal difference being much better, but now it will go down to the wire.

Tottenham now face a crucial clash with Everton on the final day, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Randal Kolo Muani dismal as Tottenham lose

Kolo Muani has been much maligned in his time at Tottenham, but he has shown good form in the last few matches.

However, he reverted back to type with a dismal performance against the Blues, taking just 28 touches in the contest, per Fotmob.

The Frenchman completed just 56 per cent of his passes and failed to create a chance for his teammates from the right-flank.

He took three touches in the opposition box, but did not do anything when he got into a promising position, with no successful crosses from his four attempts.

He made just one defensive contribution, a recovery, and it was his pass that went straight to Cole Palmer for the second goal.

He was replaced straight after by James Maddison, which was the right decision from De Zerbi.

Richarlison makes the most of limited service

Richarlison was the shining light for De Zerbi’s side, despite a lack of service coming his way.

He only had 33 touches, but he made the most of it, with five of them in the opposition box, and firing in a consolation that had Spurs dreaming of a comeback.

He took the most shots in the contest, with three, and also missed one big chance in the contest, while creating a chance for a teammate.

The Brazilian was willing to help out defensively, with one tackle, two clearances, and one recovery, showing his heart for the cause.

He won three of four ground duels for a 75 per cent success rate, and four of seven in the air, for a 57 per cent success rate.

It was the kind of performance that the visitors needed, but not from one player, from all of them.

Roberto De Zerbi has Chelsea bench up in arms as Tottenham boss walks touchline tightrope - tottenhamhotspurnews.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi has not made any friends on the Chelsea bench during the first half, as the Tottenham Hotspur boss is in danger of being booked.

Tottenham find themselves trailing Chelsea by a goal to nil at half-time, as De Zerbi’s side have work to do if they are to secure their Premier League survival on Tuesday night.

After making a strong and fast start to the game at Stamford Bridge, which included Mathys Tel’s header hitting the woodwork, the Blues opened the scoring on 18 minutes through Enzo Fernandez.

De Zerbi must now gather his players in the dressing room ahead of what is the biggest 45 minutes of the Lilywhites’ 2025-26 season so far.

Spurs will be safe if they beat Chelsea, whilst a draw would also be effectively good enough given their far superior goal difference to West Ham.

Why is Chelsea’s bench angry with Roberto De Zerbi?

De Zerbi has a poor record against Chelsea during his managerial career, and so this Stamford Bridge trip was always going to be the toughest test of his Tottenham reign so far.

With so much riding on the fixture for both teams, with Chelsea chasing Europe and Spurs Premier League safety respectively, as well as it being a historic London derby, emotions were always bound to be running high.

However, as detailed by Standard Sport reporter Sam Tabuteau via his live report of the game, De Zerbi has been raising the blood pressure levels of those on the Chelsea bench during the first half.

“Chelsea bench not happy with Roberto De Zerbi, who keeps creeping out of his technical area,” Tabuteau writes.

“Reminder, he is one booking away from having to serve a one-game touchline ban.”

Tottenham can’t afford De Zerbi in the stands vs Everton

If Tottenham can’t get a result against Chelsea from the second half, then the battle for 17th will go down to the final day.

Spurs welcome Everton to N17 on Sunday, with the Toffees boasting the experience of David Moyes in their dug out.

Not having De Zerbi on the touchline for what could be the decisive game of the season, and potentially one of the biggest in Tottenham’s Premier League history, may prove catastrophic for Spurs.

De Zerbi is a passionate and emotional manager, but he must keep his cool in the second half, unless, of course, he was to pick up a booking for celebrating a last-minute winner/equaliser – then Lilywhites fans wouldn’t care one bit.
