Liverpool great Andy Robertson could become Tottenham’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are making sensible moves in the transfer market, as Roberto De Zerbi looks to put his stamp on the ailing squad that managed to escape relegation on the final day of the past campaign.

The North London club looks set to confirm two new signings on free transfers later this summer, with Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi joining the club from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively. Andy Robertson could very well become the first signing of the summer transfer window, followed by Marcos Senesi.

The ex-Liverpool star has turned down a late offer from Juventus to say yes to becoming a part of De Zerbi’s project. Robertson kept his word to Spurs, having come close to joining them in the January transfer window, only for the move to collapse after Liverpool failed to sort out an adequate replacement. Nonetheless, the vastly experienced left-back is about to move to N17 on a free transfer when his contract expires at Anfield.

Former scout feels Andy Robertson move will force Destiny Udogie out of Tottenham

Famous Spurs podcaster John Wenham has lauded Tottenham for thrashing out a verbal agreement with Robertson ahead of a potential move. However, the question that will certainly raise in the minds of several fans is whether the 32-year-old will walk straight into De Zerbi’s first XI or not. If that happens, Destiny Udogie might face the exit door at Spurs.

No one has questioned the talent of Destiny Udogie, but it is his patchy injury record that has let him down in the last two seasons. None of the Tottenham coaches managed to get the best out of the Italy international during the 2025/26 season, chiefly due to his persistent hamstring and ankle issues.

Luckily, Udogie managed to stay injury-free during the business end of the campaign under De Zerbi and helped the Lilywhites avoid the drop, but question marks continue to remain over his fitness. Now, ex-scout Bryan King feels Udogie could leave Spurs and return to his homeland this summer following the potential entry of Robertson.

“I could see Udogie going back to Italy,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“There’s AC Milan, Inter Milan or Juventus, who I would imagine are going to be interested in him. Robertson isn’t going to join without guaranteed game time, so there will be some movement there.

“Udogie has come ok, but he’s been injured for a long time, and that will hamper his value. He will bring money in, but maybe just £20m I would think.”

Robertson to act as Udogie’s deputy

One would think that Robertson agreeing to verbally join Tottenham means he has been assured of regular game time by De Zerbi. Well, it may not be the case, and the Liverpool great is purely seen as an understudy to Udogie.

Udogie has been the first-choice left-back at Tottenham for the past three years. When he became fully fit, De Zerbi put complete faith in his compatriot over Djed Spence during the relegation run-in. And the Italian international delivered some commanding displays, repaying the gaffer’s trust.

At 23, Udogie is still relatively young and has a vast potential to unlock. If the ex-Udinese man works on his fitness and stays injury-free, he will be a long-term asset for Tottenham. That said, we feel Robertson’s acquisition would be purely to push Udogie to his limits and not replace him in the first XI.
