Ange Postecoglou is back in management.

The former Celtic manager has assumed the top job at Nottingham Forest, just months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the wake of a conflicted second season.

Postecoglou won the Europa League in his sophomore campaign in North London, delivering silverware just as he promised, in the club’s first tournament triumph since 2008.

Brendan Rodgers, who replaced Postecoglou in 2023, is currently in a troublesome position with the Celtic board after a controversial summer transfer window.

But for one former Celtic hero, his predecessor’s move back into the Premier League is exciting – but he still has his doubts.

Chris Sutton says it won’t be ‘total Angeball’ at Nottingham Forest

Unlike his stints at Celtic Park and at Spurs, the Australian’s crack at Forest starts mid-season.

This poses a different challenge for the 60-year-old – and in the eyes of Chris Sutton, may lead to a different tactical approach.

Speaking on the appointment for BBC 5 Live, he said: “It’s very exciting. It’s great to see Ange Postecoglou back in the Premier League. I don’t think it’s a case of unfinished business for him.

“I think it’s a good appointment. I think Nottingham Forest will see a different style of football under Ange Postecoglou – I’m not so sure it will be total Angeball or to the extreme, as he has done previously.

“But I do think there will be tweaks. It’s very exciting for the Premier League – I can’t wait to see his first game against Arsenal.”

Postecoglou adapted for knockout football at the back end of his Tottenham spell, but what will his Nottingham Forest team look like?

Is Ange Postecoglou more adaptable than some say?

A criticism often launched at Ange Postecoglou is that he is hindered by his lack of adaptability.

Some pundits question Postecoglou’s credentials at Premier League level, but the final win is solid evidence against that.

At Celtic, there was barely a moment when the ‘Angeball’ product wasn’t instantly recognisable. The Australian’s single-mindedness is certainly unique.

But so are the circumstances in which he is heading to Nottingham – and for Sutton, things may look different at the City Ground.
