James Maddison has revealed that he is getting ‘closer’ by the day to finally returning from injury and back into action for Tottenham Hotspur.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined since August after suffering a devastating ACL blow during Spurs’ pre-season game against Newcastle United.
Who starts in the number ten when both fully fit: James Maddison or Xavi Simons? 👀
Thomas Frank would love to have Maddison back at some stage, especially given the team’s current lack of creativity and leadership.
But the midfielder is starting to show positive signs of returning before the end of the season, with his rehabilitation continuing to step up.
James Maddison is continuing to step up his recovery from injury and is getting ‘closer’ to finally returning for Tottenham Hotspur.
The England international has been sidelined for 178 days, but is edging closer towards finally being back fit.
The midfielder has taken to social media to issue an update and post pictures of himself working hard out on the grass.
MORE SPURS STORIES
On Tuesday afternoon, Maddison posted an injury update on his X account saying: “Another day closer…”
Xavi Simons’ poor form for Tottenham and Dejan Kulusevski also being sidelined have only compounded the devastating blow of losing Maddison.
Fill in the blank: Tottenham will take __ points from their next five matches…
Simons has struggled to bring much creativity to Spurs’ midfield just yet, with just four assists in 27 appearances for the North London club.
Therefore, when Maddison finally returns from his ACL injury, it will take the pressure off the Dutch international and help Spurs as a team.
Dejan Kulusevski travels to Barcelona amid injury concerns
Dejan Kulusevski has now been spotted travelling to Barcelona as he also continues to recover from a knee injury.
The Swede has been sidelined for even longer than Maddison, having been missing since May when he was forced off against Crystal Palace.
The 25-year-old is another player Spurs fans would love to have back soon, but he appears to remain further away than Maddison.
Speaking about his situation at the start of January, Frank told Tottenhamhotspur.com: “We know it’s a complicated injury. If there’s one person who can accelerate that, it’s Dejan.
“He’s a top pro and has got a top mentality. The most important thing is to remove the pain in the knee. He got an injection to help that 10 days ago.
“We know in three to four weeks if it’s settled and when it’s settled, hopefully, he’ll be on the grass and from there, we’ll see what’s happening.”
